Work Area
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite
accidents.

Electrical Safety

may be suitable for one type of battery may create a risk of fire when used with
another battery.
Use battery operated toolonly with specifically designated battery pack. Use

Personal Safety
Stay alert, watch what you aredoing, and use common sense whenoperating
a power tool. Do notusetoolwhile tired or underthe influence of drugs, alcohol,
or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result
in serious personal injury.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep
your hair, clothing, andgloves away from movingparts. Looseclothes, jewelry,
or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

Tool Use and Care
Use clamps or other practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a
stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and
may lead to
loss of control.
Do not force tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool
will do the job better and safer
at the rate for which it is designed.
*Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off. A tool that cannot be
controlled with the switch
is dangerous and must be repaired.
*Disconnect battery pack from tool or place the switch
in the locked or off
position before makingany adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the
tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool
accidentally.
Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are
dangerous in the hands
of untrained users.
*When battery pack is not in use, keep
it away from other metal objects like:
paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can
make aconnection from one terminal toanother. Shorting the battery terminals
together may cause sparks, burns, or
a fire.
Maintaintools with care. Keep cutting tools sharpandclean. Properly maintained
tools with sharp cutting edge
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
*Check for misalignment or bindingof movingparts, breakage of parts, andany
other condition that may affect thetool's operation. If damaged, havethe tool
serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your
model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may create
a risk of injury
when used on another tool.
Service
*Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or
maintenance performed by unqualified personnel may result in

tongue on the battery cartridge with the
groove in the housingand slip it until it is
lockedwith

Do not use force when inserting the bat-
tery cartridge. If the cartridge does not
slide in easily, it is not being inserted cor-
rectly.

Charging
Your new batterycartridge is not charged.
You will needto charge
it before use. Use
the high capacity battery charger Model
DC1411 to chargethe battery cartridge.
Plug the high capacity battery charger
into the proper
A.C. voltage source. The
charging lightwill flash in green color.
*Insert the battery cartridge
so that the
plus and minus terminals on the battery
cartridge are on the same sides as their
respective markings on the high capacity
battery charger. Insert the cartridge fully
intothe port
so that it rests on the charger port floor.
When the battery cartridge is inserted,the charging lightcolor will change from greento
redand chargingwill begin.The charging lightwill remain lit steadily during charging.
When the charginglight color changesfrom redto green, the chargingcycle is complete.
The chargingtime is approximately one hour.
If you leave the battery cartridge inthe charger after the chargingcycle iscomplete, the
charger will switch into its "trickle charge (maintenancecharge)" mode which will last
approximately
24 hours.
*After charging, unplugthe charger from the power source.
CAUTION:
*The highcapacity battery charger Model DC1411 is for charging Makita batten/ cartridge.
Never use itfor other purposes or for other manufacturer's batteries.
When you charge a new battery cartridge or a battery cartridge which has not been used
for
a long period of time, it may not accept a full charge. This is a normal condition and
does not indicate
a problem. You can recharge the battery cartridge fully after discharg-
ing
it completely and recharging a coupleof times.

If you charge a battery cartridge from a just-operated tool or a battery cartridge which
has been left in
a location exposedto direct sunlight or heat for a long time, the charging
light may flash in red color. If this occurs, wait for
a while. Chargingwill begin after the
battery cartridge cools. The battery cartridge
will cool faster if you remove the battery
cartridge from the highcapacity battery charger.
If the charging light flashes alternately in green and red color, a problem exists and
charging is not possible. The terminals on the charger or battery cartridge are clogged
withdust or the battery cartridge isworn out or damaged.
Tricklecharge (Maintenance charge)
If you leavethe battery cartridge in the charger to prevent spontaneous discharging after
full charge, the charger
will switch into its ”trickle charge (maintenance charge)” mode
and keepthe batterycartridge fresh and fully charged.
Tips for maintaining maximum battery life
1. Charge the batterycartridge before completely discharged.
Always stop tool operation and charge the battery cartridge when you notice less tool
power.
2. Never recharge a fully chargedbattery cartridge.
Overchargingshortens the battery service life.
3. Charge the battery cartridge with roomtemperature at 10°C - 40°C (50°F - 104°F)
Leta hot battery cartridge cool down before charging it.
Adjusting shoe
When the blade loses its cutting efficiency
in one place along its cutting edge, reposi-
tion the shoeto unitize asharp, unusedpor-
tion of its cutting edge. This will help to
lengthen the life of the blade. To reposition
the shoe, loosen the lever and slide the
shoe forward or back to the desired posi-
tion. Then tighten the lever to firmly secure
the shoe.

CAUTION:
Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool, always check to see that the switch
trigger actuates properly and returns to the
”OFF” positionwhen released.
To prevent the switch trigger from being accidentally pulled,
a lock-off buttonis provided.
To start the tool, depress the lock-off button (from right side or left side) and pull the
switch trigger.

Tool speed is increased by increasing pres-
sure on the switch trigger. Release the
switch trigger to stop.

ASSEMBLY
Installing or removing the saw blade
CAUTIO N :
*Always be sure that the tool is switched off andthe battery cartridge is removed before
installingor removingthe blade.
*Always clean out all chips or foreign matter adhering to the blade, blade clamp and/or
slider. Failureto
do so may causeinsufficient tightening of the blade, resulting in a seri-
ous injury.
To installthe blade, push the push button inthedirection of the arrow and insert the blade
between the blade clamp and the slider as far as it will go. Then release the push button
and make sure that the bladecannot be extracted even though you try to pull itout.
CAUTION:
If you releasethe push button without inserting the bladedeep enough, the blademay be
ejected unexpectedly during operation. This can be extremely dangerous.
To remove the blade, push the push button inthe direction of the arrow and pull out the
blade.
