1 Introduction
1-1 Greeting
Thank you so much for adding -LMi option to our company's product.
Our company makes assurance doubly sure on the quality management of products. To bring out the
performance sufficiently and use the product safely, handle the product properly following this
document.
This document is created without loose ends, however, if you have any inquiries or become aware of
something omitted, of description, please take a moment to contact our company.

This document explains menu configurations on the front panel of REK/REKJ series -LMi option, LXI
standard, and SCPI command.

2 –LMi option
2-1 Characteristics
The characteristics inherent to -LMi option are four points shown below.
Interface
LAN, RS-232C,USB(TMC),RS-485
* Only when the interface is connected to LAN, -LMi option operates as LXI.
* LXI complies with class "C" and version "1.4 LXI Core 2011".

3 Overview of LXI
3-1 LXI
LXI (LAN eXtensions for Instrumentation) is a standard of measurement system that uses "LAN" for
the communication bus between PC and measuring instrument. LAN is recently used instead of GPIB
that has been used for communications with measuring instrument for years. LAN has characteristics
such as "longer distance to a device to be connected can be ensured compared with GPIB" and
"multiple dispersed measurement systems can be constructed". LXI is a new standard to utilize the
characteristics.
The table shown below indicates the comparison of functions between LXI and existing LAN
measuring instrument.
You can see that "compliance of IVI driver" and "WEB composition panel" are required for LXI
measuring instrument.

3-2 IVI driver
IVI (Interchangeable Virtual Instrument) driver is a middleware for controlling a measuring instrument
that is designed based on industry's standard specifications by IVI Foundation. This driver provides
standard API to be used for communications with a measuring instrument. The greatest characteristic
is the interchangeability function. This function can operate a used measuring instrument without
recompiling the application when it is changed to other model if it belongs to the same measurement
instrument class that supports IVI driver.
For the measuring instrument class, eight types such as DMM, oscilloscope, digitizer are defined. IVI
driver made by our company belongs to DC power supply class (IviDCPwr class).
For IVI driver, three types of API shown below are defined. IVI driver made by our company supports
IVI-C and IVI-COM.

3-3 VISA library
VISA (Virtual Instrument Software Architecture) library is an IO driver for executing the measuring
instrument driver. It provides API that automatically controls a measuring instrument in common
procedure regardless of type of measuring instrument or type of communication interface (GPIB,
RS-232C, USB, LAN etc.). Therefore, to use IVI driver, it is necessary to install VISA library in
advance. The currently released VISA libraries are NI-VISA (National Instruments) and Agilent VISA
IO Libraries (Agilent Technologies) etc.
3-4 LAN communication protocol
The general protocol that is applied when LXI measuring instrument performs communications with a
device are two protocols shown below.
SCPI-RAW
VXI-11
To start the connection with a measuring instrument by API of VISA library, it is necessary to specify
the IO resource (indicates the address of a specific measuring instrument) depending on a protocol to
be used.
3-4-1 SCPI-RAW
This is a protocol that sends and receives a command by TCP/IP socket. For TCP port, 5025 is
recommended. It can operate without using VISA library. It is a low-level protocol that can be generally
used for various operation systems and program development environments.
An example of IO resource of SCPI-RAW is shown below.
"TCPIP::192.168.1.100::5025::SOCKET"
(LAN measuring instrument with IP address "192.168.1.100" that performs socket
communications at port No.5025)
3-4-2 VXI-11
VXI-11 is a standard protocol recommended by measuring instrument industry. VISA library is built
upon VXI-11 protocol. Therefore, to perform VXI-11 communications, it is necessary to install VISA
library. GPIB multiline, uniline message, and service request function omitted from SCPI-RAW are
realized by LAN.
An example of IO resource of VXI-11 is shown below.
"TCPIP::192.168.1.100::inst0::INSTR"

3-5 WEB interface
LXI measuring instrument should have WEB interface.
With WEB interface, it is possible to specify the address and execute the control and monitoring of
measuring instrument, and change of setting of LAN communication status. For details, refer to
Chapter 6.

3-6 USB(TMC)
This is protocol that sends and receives a command like GPIB using USB device.
The “IVI” and “Application” you have are possible by USB device about using that.
To start the connection with a measuring instrument by API of VISA library, it is necessary to specify
the IO resource depending on a protocol to be used.
3-7 RS-485
This protocol can use multiple-drop interface to 32 units.
(A termination resistor is necessary to both ends of a network)
This protocol can use by 4-line(Full duplex) or 2-line(Half duplex) by changing on the screen (refer to
Chapter 6-6).
The “IVI” and “Application” you have are possible by RS-485 device about using that.
This protocol have used by the Master/Slave mode and send command to only 1 slave because this
protocol is multiple-drop interface. Because the commands are crashed, and there is a possibility that
command can’t pass any more.
When [INSTruments] by “SCPI command”is used, each sends and receives a command of units
quotas. For details, refer to Chapter 5-3.
To start the connection with a measuring instrument by API of VISA library, it is necessary to specify
the IO resource depending on a protocol to be used.

4-3 Command setting
In the command setting mode, a command to be used is switched to [SCPI command] and
[Matsusada command].
* When the product is shipped from factory, the command is set to [SCPI command].
* When IVI driver is used, it is necessary to switch the command to [SCPI command].
*Matsusada Precision's original command:

4-4 Interface setting
In the interface setting mode, an interface to be used is switched to [LAN],[USB(TMC)],[RS-485]and
[RS-232C].
* When the product is shipped from factory, the interface is set to [LAN].
