Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
software included on the
accompanying disc. The license
agreement for the software as well
as the limited warranty covering this
peripheral is contained in the Xbox
360 Controller for Windows
software. For the latest updates and
information about using the Xbox
360 Controller for Windows, go to

Dispose of this product in accordance
with local and national disposal

Clean only with a dry or slightly

WARNINGS ABOUT PLAYING
VIDEO GAMES
Photosensitive Seizures
A very small percentage of people
may experience a seizure when
exposed to certain visual images,
including flashing lights or patterns
that may appear in video games.
Even people who have no history of
seizures or epilepsy may have an
undiagnosed condition that can
cause these “photosensitive
epileptic seizures” while watching
video games.
These seizures may have a variety of
symptoms, including
lightheadedness, altered vision, eye
or face twitching, jerking or shaking
of arms or legs, disorientation,
confusion, or momentary loss of
awareness. Seizures may also cause
loss of consciousness or convulsions
that can lead to injury from falling
down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and
consult a doctor if you experience
any of these symptoms. Parents
should watch for or ask their
children about the above
symptoms—children and
teenagers are more likely than
adults to experience these
seizures. The risk of
photosensitive epileptic seizures
may be reduced by taking the
following precautions:
• Sit farther from the TV screen.
• Use a smaller TV screen.
• Play in a well-lit room.
• Do not play when you are
drowsy or fatigued.
If you or any of your relatives
have a history of seizures or
epilepsy, consult a doctor before
playing.
Musculoskeletal Disorders
Use of game controllers,
keyboards, mice, or other
electronic input devices may be
linked to serious injuries or
disorders.
When playing video games, as
with many activities, you may
experience occasional discomfort
in your hands, arms, shoulders,
neck, or other parts of your body.
However, if you experience
symptoms such as persistent or
recurring discomfort, pain,
throbbing, aching, tingling,
numbness, burning sensation, or
stiffness, DO NOT IGNORE THESE
WARNING SIGNS. PROMPTLY SEE
A QUALIFIED HEALTH
PROFESSIONAL, even if symptoms
occur when you are not playing a
video game. Symptoms such as
these can be associated with
painful and sometimes
permanently disabling injuries or
disorders of the nerves, muscles,
tendons, blood vessels, and other
parts of the body. These
musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)
include carpal tunnel syndrome,

tendonitis, tenosynovitis, vibration
syndromes, and other conditions.
While researchers are not yet able
to answer many questions about
MSDs, there is general agreement
that many factors may be linked to
their occurrence, including medical
and physical conditions, stress and
how one copes with it, overall
health, and how a person positions
and uses their body during work
and other activities (including
playing a video game). Some
studies suggest that the amount of
time a person performs an activity
may also be a factor.
Some guidelines that may help
you work and play more
comfortably and possibly reduce
your risk of experiencing an MSD
can be found in the Healthy
Gaming Guide (available at www.
xbox.com). These guidelines
address topics such as:
• Positioning yourself to use
comfortable, not awkward,
postures.
• Keeping your hands, fingers,
and other body parts relaxed.
• Taking breaks.
• Developing a healthy lifestyle.

medical or physical condition may
be related to MSDs, see a qualified

USING YOUR CONTROLLER
Xbox Guide Button
The button with the Xbox 360 logo in
the center of the controller is the
Xbox Guide button. Press the Xbox
Guide button to turn on your console
or to go to the Xbox Guide if the
console is already on.
NOTE
The Xbox Guide button has no
function when using the Xbox 360
Controller with Windows.
Ring of Light
The Xbox Guide button is surrounded
by the Ring of Light, which is made
up of four quadrants. When you play
a game using the controller on your
computer, or when you connect the
controller to an Xbox 360, the
quadrant indicating your position or
player number glows.
Expansion Port
The expansion port on your
controller connects to devices such
as the Xbox 360 Headset (sold
separately). The port features a
2.5mm audio connector and other
connectors for additional devices.

Hearing Loss
Extended exposure to high
volumes when using a headset
may result in temporary or
permanent hearing loss. Some
unapproved third-party headsets
may produce higher sound levels
than approved Xbox 360 Headsets.

The Inline Release
Your controller cord has an inline
release. This is a safety feature
designed to reduce the chance of
the Xbox 360 console or a computer
falling when the cord is pulled. If the
console or a computer falls and hits
someone, especially a small child, it
could cause serious injury. To
reduce the risk of injuries or damage
to the console or a computer, it is
important to use the controller and
the inline release properly.
Use the controller connector, not
the inline release, to routinely
connect and disconnect the
controller. If an inline release
disconnects, simply reconnect it
by aligning the grooved
indentations and pressing the
two parts completely together.
The controller will not work
unless the inline release is
connected properly.
Never tape, glue, or otherwise
prevent an inline release from
pulling apart.
The inline release reduces, but
does not eliminate, the risk of
the console or computer being
pulled off its surface. To further
reduce the risk:
• Do not allow anyone to pull
on the controller or controller
cord in a way that causes the
console or computer to move.
• Do not allow controller cords
to become crossed or tangled
with one another.

Install the Xbox 360 Controller
Software for Windows
The Xbox 360 Controller software
enables the controller to work
with Windows.
NOTE
You must first install the software
before attaching and using the
Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
with a computer.
To install software:
1 Insert the software CD into your
computer’s CD drive. If the Setup
screen doesn’t appear
automatically, do the following:
• Click Start, and then click Run.
• Type [drive]:setup. For example,
if your CD drive is drive E, type
e:setup.
2 On the Setup screen, click Install,
and then follow the Setup Wizard
instructions on the screen. Restart
the computer if prompted to do so.

Controller for Windows software, go

Connect the Controller to Your
Windows-Based PC
After installing the Xbox 360
Controller for Windows software,
simply connect the Xbox 360
Controller for Windows to your
computer’s USB port. To disconnect,
pull the connector out. Be sure to
pull on the connector, not the cable.
After installing the Xbox 360
Controller for Windows software
and connecting the controller to
your computer’s USB port, you can
verify that the controller is working
by clicking Game Controllers in
the Windows Control Panel.
See your game manual to determine
whether your game supports the
Xbox 360 Controller.
The Xbox 360 Controller for
Windows software contains the
following important product
information:
• End-User License Agreement
(EULA) and Limited Warranty
Use Your Controller in Games
For information about using your
controller with a particular game,
including the A, B, X, Y, directional
pad, thumbsticks, triggers, and
bumpers, see your game manual. For
gameplay support, use the contact
information provided by the game
publisher in the game manual.

Connect the Controller to Your
Xbox 360 Console
The Xbox 360 Controller for
Windows also works on the Xbox
360 video game and entertainment
system. To connect the Xbox 360
Controller to an Xbox 360 console,
insert the controller cord connector
into either controller port on the
front of the console. To disconnect,
pull the connector out. Be sure to
pull on the connector, not the cable.
NOTE
Do not touch controller cord terminals
with your fingers or allow metal parts
to touch them. Doing so may damage
the controller or the console.
Turn on Your Xbox 360 Console
To turn on your Xbox 360 console,
press Start or the Xbox Guide button.

UTILISATION DE VOTRE
MANETTE
Touche Guide Xbox
La touche dotée du logo Xbox 360 au
centre de la manette est la touche
Guide Xbox. Appuyez sur la touche
Guide Xbox pour allumer votre
console ou pour passer au Guide
Xbox si la console est déjà allumée.
REMARQUE
La touche Guide Xbox ne fonctionne
pas lorsque la manette Xbox 360 est
utilisée avec Windows.
Anneau de lumière
La touche Guide Xbox est encerclée
de l’Anneau de lumière, lequel est
composé de quatre quadrants.
Lorsque vous jouez à un jeu à l’aide
de la manette sur votre ordinateur
ou que vous connectez la manette à
une console Xbox 360, le quadrant
qui indique votre position ou le
nombre de joueurs s’illumine.
Port d’extension
Le port d’extension de votre manette
se connecte à des périphériques
comme le casque Xbox 360 (vendu
séparément). Le port comprend un
connecteur audio de 2,5 mm et
d’autres connecteurs pour les

Perte auditive
Une exposition prolongée à des

Le dispositif de sécurité
du câble
Le câble de votre manette dispose
d’un dispositif de sécurité. Il est
conçu pour réduire le risque que
votre Xbox 360 ou votre ordinateur
tombe lorsque l’on tire sur le câble.
Si la console ou l’ordinateur tombe
et heurte quelqu’un, surtout un
jeune enfant, il risquerait de causer
de graves blessures. Pour réduire le
risque de blessures ou de
dommages à votre console ou
ordinateur, vous devez utiliser
correctement la manette et le
dispositif de sécurité. Utilisez le
connecteur de manette, et non le
dispositif de sécurité, chaque fois
que vous branchez et débranchez la
manette. Si le dispositif de sécurité
se débranche, rebranchez-le
simplement en alignant les
dentelures et en appuyant sur les
deux parties jusqu’à ce qu’elles
soient correctement emboîtées.
La manette ne fonctionnera que
si le dispositif de sécurité est
correctement branché.
N’utilisez jamais de ruban adhésif,
de colle ou autre pour empêcher
un dispositif de sécurité de se
débrancher.
Le dispositif de sécurité réduit,
mais n’élimine pas, le risque que
l’ordinateur tombe de la surface
sur laquelle il est posé. Pour
réduire davantage ce risque :
• Assurez-vous que personne ne
tire sur la manette ou le câble de
la manette de façon à faire
bouger l’ordinateur ou la console.
• Assurez-vous que les câbles de
manettes ne sont pas
enchevêtrés ensemble.
