1.Unpack scanner

2.Unlock the carriage
Withthescannerturnedoff,unlockthecarriageby using a
screwdriverora coininto the lockingscrew located atthe
bottomof the scanner.
Turnthelockingscrewcounterclockwiseto unlock it.
Whensuccessfully unlocked,thescrewwillpushouta
little,becoming nearly evenwith theback of thescanner.
Thisindicates the scannercarriagehasbeenreleased,and
thescannerisreadytobeused.

3. Install all the software onyour Microtek
CD-ROM.Toinstall eachsoftware,open thesoftware
program'sfolder,andthenclickthe“Installer”icon.
Followthescreeninstructions until installation is
completed.

1. Turnonyourcomputer.
2. Insert the Microtek CD-ROM into your CD-ROM
drive.Thisincludesyourscannercontroller program
forcapturingimages fromyour scanner.TheMicrotek
SoftwareInstallerscreenshouldautomaticallycome
up.
Note: If the Microtek Software Installer screen does not
come up automatically, double-click the following in
succession: “My Computer” on your Windows desktop; the
CD-ROM icon; and cdsetup.exe to start the installer
program.
3. WhentheMicrotekSoftwareInstallerscreenappears,
clickeachsoftwareprograminthe order that itappears
onthescreento install allsoftwarecomponents. (Your
softwareincludesprogramsforimageediting, OCR
text editing, document management, and the Adobe
AcrobatReaderprogramforreadingdocumentation).
Foreachsoftware, follow theon-screeninstructions
duringinstallation.Defaultvaluesarespecifiedatevery
pointduringinstallation;simplyacceptthesevalues to
continueinstallationuntil you finish.
Note: You may be prompted to restart the computer at this
point. Do not restart your computer until all the software
has been installed.
Insomeapplications,auxiliaryinformation(suchasthe
Readmefile)may bedisplayed after thatparticular
programfinishesinstalling.Simplyclickthe“X”close
boxattheupperrightcornerofthedisplayedwindow
to return to the Microtek Software Installer.

5.Scanning an image
To scan photos:
1. Positionthephoto to be scanned
onthescanner bed.

(floating dotted line) around the image by dragging on
the edge or corner of the scan frame to determine the
finalsizeoftheactualscan.

5. To scan the image, click the Scan to button. The image
isthenscannedandsavedtoafile. Aside from saving,
you may also deliver the scanned image to an image-
editingsoftware,an e-mail editor, orawebbrowser.
To scan slides and filmstrips:
1. Toscanslidesorfilmstrips,youwill need to installan
accessorylike the 8"x10" Glass FilmHolder, the Main
Staging Template, the 35mm Mounted Film Template,
etc. Refer to a separate document on how to install the
accessories.Hereisasampletoinstallthe Glass Holder
forscanning.
a) Placethefilm ontop ofthe GlassFilm Holder, then
placethe vinylstrip on the edges outside the film
to secure the film to the holder.
b) InstalltheGlassFilm
Holder by gently
pushingthe
transparencytray
backin.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is an application that converts scanned documents into
text that can be edited from your word processing program.

For Macintosh users
1. Insert the Microtek CD-ROM into your CD-ROM
drive.
2. Launchthe Adobe Acrobat Reader program.Fromthe
Filemenu,choose the Opencommand, and openthe
filefor themanual that you wish to view; manualshave
a .pdfextension to their file name. The manual is then
readytobe viewed orprinted.
