Theoutdoorunitsaredesignedtobeconnectedtoamatching indoorcoilwithsweat
connectlines. Sweat connectunitsarefactory chargedwithrefrigerantforamatch-
ingindoorcoil plus25 feetoffield supplied lines.
Matching indoorcoilsareavailable withathermostaticexpansionvalveoran orifice
forthemost common usage.The orificesizeand/orrefrigerantcharge mayneedto
be changedforsomeindoor-outdoorunitcombinations,elevation differencesor
totalline lengths.
2.0GENERAL
1.Limitationsforthe indoor unit,coiland appropriateaccessoriesmustalsobe observed.
2.The outdoor unitmustnotbe installedwithanyductworkinthe airstream.The outdoorfan is
the propeller typeand isnot designedtooperateagainstanyadditionalexternalstatic
pressure.
3.The maximumandminimumconditionsforoperation mustbeobserved toassureasystem
thatwillgivemaximumperformancewithminimumservice.
4.Thisunitisnotdesigned tooperatewithalowambient kit. Donot modifythe controlsystem
tooperatewithanykindof Iowambientkit.
5.The maximumallowablelinelengthforthisproductis150 feet JustforScrollcompressor .
1.2LIMITATIONS
Theunitshouldbeinstalled in accordancewithall National,Stateand Local Safety
Codesandthe limitationslistedbelow:
As soon asaunitisreceived,itshouldbeinspected forpossible damage duringtransit.
If damage isevident,the extent of thedamageshould benoted on thecarrier's delivery
receipt. Aseparaterequestforinspection bythecarrier's agentshouldbemadein
writing. SeeLocaldistributorformoreinformation.

tohandle the POEorPVEtype oils.
Manifoldsetsshouldbe800 PSIGhigh side and250PSIGlow side with550PSIG
Iow side restart.
All hosesmust havea700PSIGservicepressurerating.
Leakdetectorsshouldbedesigned todetectrefrigerant.
Recovery equipment(including refrigerantrecovery containers) mustbe specifi-
callydesigned tohandle R410A.
Donotuse anR-22 TXV.
Itwill be moreconvenienttoopen the Servicevalveafterremoving the Underside

3.0UNITINSTALLATION
3.1LOCATION
Beforestartingthe installation,selectand check the suitabilityofthe location forboth
the indoorand outdoorunit.Observealllimitationsand clearancerequirements.The
outdoorunit musthavesufficient clearanceforairentrancetothecondensercoil,forair
dischargeandforserviceaccess.See Fig.2
NOTE
Formultipleunitinstallations,unitsmustbe spaced aminimumof18 inches
apart. (Coilfacetocoilface.)
Ifthe unitistobe installedon ahotsun exposed rooforablack-toppedground area,the
unitshouldbe raised sufficientlyabovetherooforgroundtoavoidtakingthe accumu-
lated layerofhot airintothe outdoorunit.
Provide an adequatestructural support.
WARNING
Theoutdoorunit should notbeinstalledin anarea wheremud oricecould cause
personalinjury.
Elevatetheunitsufficientlytopreventanyblockage ofthe airentrancesbysnowin
areaswheretherewill be snowaccumulation.Check the localweatherbureauforthe
expected snow accumulation in yourarea. Isolatethe unitfromraingutters toavoid any
possiblewashoutofthe foundation.
When installingunitsonaroof,thestructuremustbe capableofsupportingthe total
weightofthe unit,including apadded frameunit,rails,etc.,whichshould be used to
minimizethe transmission ofsoundorvibration intotheconditioned space.
3.3ROOFINSTALLATION
3.4UNITPLACEMENT
1.Provide abaseinthe pre-determined location.
2.Removetheshipping cartonandinspectforpossible damage.
3.Compressortie-down boltsshouldremaintightened.
4.Position theuniton thebaseprovided.
Theunitmaybe installed atground levelonasolidbasethatwill notshiftorsettle,caus-
ingstrainon therefrigerant linesandpossibleleaks. Maintaintheclearancesshown in
Fig.2andinstallthe unitin alevel position.
3.2GROUND INSTALLATION
Normal operatingsound levelsmaybe objectionableifthe unit isplaced directlyunder
windowsofcertainrooms(bedrooms,study, etc.).
Top ofunitdischargearea mustbe unrestrictedforat least60inchesabovethe unit.

1.Installthe lineswithasfew bendsaspossible.Caremustbetaken nottodamage
thecouplingsorkinkthe tubing.Usecleanharddrawn Coppertubing whereno
appreciable amountofbending around obstructionisnecessary,ifsoft coppermust
be used,caremustbe takentoavoid sharpbendswhichmaycausearestriction.
2.Thelinesshould be installedsothattheywill notobstructserviceaccesstothe coil,
airhandling systemorfilter.
3.5PRECAUTIONSDURINGLINEINSTALLATION
CAUTION
ThissystemusesR410Arefrigerantwhichoperatesathigherpressurethan
R-22.No otherrefrigerantmaybe used in thissystem.Gaugesets,hoses,
refrigerantcontainers,andrecovery systemmustbedesignedtohandle
R410A. Ifyou areunsure,consultthe equipment manufacturer.
Theoutdoorunitmustbeconnectedtotheindoorcoil usingfieldsuppliedrefrigerant
gradecoppertubingthatisinternallyclean and dry. Unitsshouldbeinstalled onlywith
the tubingsizesforapproved systemcombinations.The chargegivenisapplicable for
totaltubing lengthsupto25 feet.
NOTE
Usingalargerthan specifiedline sizecould resultin oilreturnproblems.Using
too small aline will resultin lossofcapacityandotherproblems caused byinsuf-
ficientrefrigerantflow.Slope horizontalvaporlinesatleast1"every 20 feet
towardtheoutdoorunittofacilitateproperoil return.
3.Caremustalsobe takentoisolatethe refrigerantlinestominimizenoisetransmis-
sion fromtheequipmenttothestructure.
4.Thevaporline and liquidline mustbe insulated withaminimumof1/2"foamrubber
insulation (Armafiexorequivalent).Tape and suspendthe refrigerantlinesasshown.
DONOT allowtube metal-to-metal contact.See Fig.3.
5.UsePVCpiping asaconduitforallundergroundinstallationsasshowninFig.4.
Buried linesshould be keptasshort aspossible tominimizethebuild up ofliquid
refrigerantinthe vaporlineduring long periodsofshutdown.
6.Pack fiberglassinsulation and asealingmaterial suchaspermagumaround refrig-
erantlineswheretheypenetrateawall toreducevibrationandtoretainsomeflexi-
bility.

All outdoorunitandevaporatorcoilconnectionsarecopper-to-copperand shouldbe
brazed withaphosphorous-copperalloymaterialsuchasSilfos-5orequivalent. DO
NOTusesoft solder. Theoutdoorunitshavereusableservicevalveson boththeliquid
andvaporconnections.The total systemrefrigerantchargeisretained withinthe
outdoorunitduringshipping and installation. The reusable servicevalvesareprovided
toevacuateandchargeperthisinstruction.
Seriousserviceproblemscanbe avoidedbytaking adequateprecautionstoassurean
internallyclean and drysystem.

CAUTION
Dry nitrogenshould always be supplied through the tubing while itisbeing
brazed,becausethe temperaturerequiredishigh enough tocauseoxidation
ofthe copperunless an inertatmosphereisprovide. The flow of dry nitrogen
shouldcontinueuntil thejointhascooled.Alwaysuseapressureregulator
andsafetyvalvetoinsurethatonlylowpressuredry nitrogen isintroducedinto
the tubing.Onlyasmallflowisnecessary todisplaceairand prevent oxidation.
Precautionsshould be taken topreventheatdamagetoservicevalvebywrapping awet
rag around itasshownin Fig.6.Also,protectall painted surfaces,insulation,during
brazing.Afterbrazing cool joint withwetrag.
3.7PRECAUTIONSDURINGBRAZING SERVICEVALVE
Valvecan be opened byremovingthe plungercap andfullyinserting ahexwrenchinto
the stemandbacking outcounter-clockwiseuntil valvestemjusttouchesthe cham-
fered retaining wall.
1.Removethecap and Schradercorefromboththeliquidandvaporservicevalve
serviceportsatthe outdoorunit.ConnectIow pressurenitrogen tothe liquidline
serviceport.
Connecttherefrigerantlinesusingthe followingprocedure:
2.Brazethe liquid linetothe liquid valveatthe outdoorunit.Besuretowrapthe valve
bodywithawet rag.Allowthe nitrogen tocontinueflowing.RefertotheTabularData
Sheetforproperliquidline sizing.
3.Carefullyremovethe rubberplugsfromthe evaporatorliquidandvaporconnections
atthe indoorcoil.
4.Brazethe liquid linetothe evaporatorliquid connection.Nitrogenshould be flowing
through theevaporatorcoil.
5.Slidethe plasticcap awayfromthevaporconnectionat the indoorcoil.Brazethe
vaporlinetothe evaporatorvaporconnection.RefertotheTable1forpropervapor
linesizing.
6.Protectthe vaporvalvewithawetragandbrazethe vaporline connection tothe
outdoorunit. The nitrogen flowshould be exiting thesystemfromthe vaporservice
portconnection.Afterthisconnection hascooled,removethe nitrogen sourcefrom
theliquidfittingserviceport.
7.Replacethe Schradercoreinthe liquidand vaporvalves.
8.Leaktest all refrigerantpipingconnectionsincludingthe serviceport flarecapstobe
suretheyareleaktight. DONOTOVERTIGHTEN(between40 and60inch-lbs.
maximum).
9.Evacuatethe vaporline, evaporatorandthe liquid line,to500micronsorless.

10. Replacecaponserviceports. Do notremovethe flarecapsfromthe serviceports
exceptwhen necessaryforservicingthe system.
CAUTION
Do notconnectmanifold gaugesunless troubleissuspected.Approximately3/4
ounceofrefrigerantwillbe losteachtimeastandardmanifold gauge is
connected.
11.Releasetherefrigerantcharge intothe system.Open boththe liquid and vapor
valvesbyremoving theplungercap and withanhexwrenchback outcounter
-clockwiseuntilvalvestemjusttouchesthechamfered retainingwall.
12.Replaceplungercapfingertight,then tightenanadditional1/12 turn(1/2hexflat).
Cap mustbereplaced toprevent leaks.

Step3: Using L-shaped brackettolocateholeson concreteand drillpilotholeswhichis
atleast1/4 deeperthanfastenerbeing used.
IMPORTANT
Selfdrillingscrewstobasepan shouldnotexceed 3/8 longtoavoid damaging
coil.
Step4: Using conventionalpracticestoinstall brackets, tightenconcretefasteners and
self-tapping screws(See Fig.8).
NOTE:1.One bracketforeachside.Forextrastability,2bracketsforeachside.
2.Donot over-tightenthe concretefastenertoavoid weakening the concrete.
Step1: Priortoinstallingclearpadof debris.
IMPORTANT
Then cementpad must be madeofHVAC-approved materialsandmustbe the

Step3: Besuretoplacefan coveruniton the ground asindicated in Fig.9

4.1GENERALINFORMATION&GROUNDING
Check the electrical supplytobesurethatitmeetsthe valuesspecified onthe unit
nameplateandwiring label.
Powerwiring,control(Iow voltage)wiring,disconnectswitchesandovercurrent
protection mustbesuppliedbytheinstaller.Wiresizeshould be sizedperrequire-
ments.
CAUTION
All field wiring mustUSECOPPERCONDUCTORSONLYand bein accordance
withLocal, National Fire, Safety&Electrical Codes.Thisunitmustbe grounded
withaseparateground wireinaccordancewiththe abovecodes.
Thecompleteconnection diagramandschematicwiring labelislocated on the inside
surfaceof the unitserviceaccess panelandthisinstruction.
1.Installthe propersizeweatherproofdisconnectswitchoutdoors andwithinsightof
theunit.
2.Removethescrewsatthesideof the cornerpanel.Slide cornerpaneldown and
removefromunit. SeeFig.10.
3.Run powerwiringfromthe disconnect switchtothe unit.
4.Routewiresfromdisconnectthrough powerwiring openingprovided and intothe
unit controlbox.
5.Installthe propersizetime-delayfusesorcircuitbreaker, and makethe power
supplyconnections.
6.Energizethe crankcaseheaterifequippedtosavetimebypreheatingthe compres-
soroil whilethe remaininginstallation iscompleted.

Itwill be necessarytoevacuatethe systemto500 micronsorless.Ifaleakis
suspected,leaktestwithdrynitrogentolocatethe leak.Repairtheleakandtestagain.
Toverifythatthe systemhasnoleaks,simplyclosethe valvetothe vacuumpump
suction toisolatethepumpandhold the systemundervacuum.Watchthemicron
gauge forafewminutes.Ifthe microngaugeindicatesasteadyand continuousrise,
it's anindicationofaleak.Ifthe gauge showsarise, then levelsoffafterafewminutes
andremainsfairlyconstant,itsan indicationthatthesystemisleakfree butstill
containsmoistureand mayrequirefurtherevacuationifthe readingisabove500
microns.

7.1COMPRESSORCRANKCASEHEATER(CCH HEATBUMPONLY)
Refrigerantmigration duringthe offcycle can resultinanoisystartup.Addacrank-
caseheatertominimizerefrigerationmigration,and tohelpeliminateanystartup
noiseorbearing “washout .
All heatersarelocated on the lowerhalfofthe compressorshell.Itspurposeistodrive
refrigerantfromthecompressorshell during long offcycles,thuspreventing damage
tothe compressorduring start-up.
Atinitial start-up orafterextendedshutdownperiods,makesurethe heaterisener-
gizedforatleast12 hours beforethe compressorisstarted.(Disconnectswitchonand
wallthermostatoff.)

8.1CHARGINGBYLIQUIDPRESSURE
The liquidpressuremethod isused forcharging systemsinthecooling andheating
mode.Theserviceportonthe liquid(smallvalve)andsuction (large valve)isused
forthispurpose.
Verifythattheoutdoorunitisrunning andthe indoorairmoverisdelivering the
maximumairflowforthissystemsize.Read andrecordthe outdoorambienttem-
perature.Read andrecordthe liquidandsuction pressuresatthe portson the liquid
andsuction valves.

8.2CHARGINGBYWEIGHT
Foranew installation,evacuation ofinterconnectingtubing and indoorcoilis
adequate;otherwise,evacuatethe entiresystem. Notethatchargevalue includes
chargerequiredfor25 ft.of standardsizeinterconnectingliquidline.Calculateactual
Withan accuratescale(+/-1oz.)orvolumetriccharging device,adjustcharge
differencebetween thatshown on the unitdataplateand thatcalculatedforthe new
systemInstallation.ifthe entiresystemhasbeen evacuated,addthetotalcalculated
charge.
8.3FINALLEAK TESTING
Afterthe unithasbeen properlyevacuated andcharged,ahalogenleakdetector
should be usedtodetectleaks inthe system.Allpipingwithin thecondensing unit,
evaporator,andinterconnecting tubing should be checked forleaks.Ifaleakis
detected, therefrigerantshouldbe recovered beforerepairingtheleak.The CleanAir
Actprohibitsreleasing refrigerantintotheatmosphere.
Ifrefrigerantlinesaresized using the nameplatecharge,thecorrectliquidpressureis
foundatthe intersection ofthesuction pressureandthe outdoorambient.
1.Removerefrigerant charge if the liquidpressure isabovethe chart value.
2.Add refrigerant charge iftheliquidpressureisbelow the chartvalue.
9.0OWNERINSTRUCTIONS
9.1MAINTENANCE
.Dirtshould notbe allowed toaccumulateon theoutdoorcoilsorotherpartsin the air
circuit. Clean asoften asnecessarytokeepthe unitclean.Useabrush,vacuum
cleanerattachment,orothersuitable means.
2.
Theoutdoorfan motorispermanentlylubricated and doesnotrequireperiodicoiling.
3. Ifthecoilneedstobe cleaned,itshould be washed withCalgon Coilclean (mixone
partCoilcleantosevenpartswater).Allow solutiontoremain on coil for30 minutes
beforerinsing withclean water. Solution should not be permitted tocomein contact
withpainted surfaces.
4.
Refertothe furnaceorairhandlerinstructionsforfilterand blowermotormaintenance.
5. The indoorcoiland drain pan shouldbeinspectedandcleaned regularlytoassure
properdrainage.

Itisunlawful toknowinglyvent,releaseordischarge refrigerantintothe open air
duringrepair,service,maintenanceorthe final disposalofthisunit.When the
systemisfunctioningproperlyand the ownerhasbeenfullyinstructed,securethe
