Warning and Safety instructions
Building in and connection
The appliance must be installed
and connected by a suitably quali-
fied and competent person in strict ac-
cordance with national and local safety
regulations. The manufacturer cannot
be held responsible for damage
caused by incorrect installation or con-
nection.
The electrical safety of this ap-
pliance can only be guaranteed
when continuity is complete between
the appliance and an effective earthing
system, which complies with local and
national safety regulations. It is most im-
portant that this basic safety require-
ment is tested by a qualified electri-
cian. The manufacturer cannot be held
responsible for the consequences of
an inadequate earthing system such as
an electric shock.
Do not connect the appliance to
the mains electrical supply by an
extension lead. Extension leads do not
guarantee the required safety of the ap-
pliance.
This equipment is not designed for
maritime use or for use in mobile -
installations such as caravans, aircraft
etc. However it may be suitable for
such usage subject to a risk assess-
ment of the installation being carried
out be a suitably qualified engineer.
Warning and Safety instructions
6

Correct usage
Before installing and using the ap-
pliance for the first time, read the
operating and installation instruc-
tions carefully. They give information on
safety, on the operation and care of the
appliance. This way you will avoid the
risk of accidents and damage to the ap-
pliance.
This appliance must only be oper-
ated as a built-in appliance. This is
necessary to ensure that all electrical
components are shielded.
This appliance is intended for do-
mestic use only and is not to be
used for commercial purposes.
Use this appliance for the prepara-
tion of meals only. Any other usage
is at the owner’s risk and could be dan-
gerous. The manufacturer cannot be
held responsible for damage caused
by improper use or misuse of the ap-
pliance.
Warning and Safety instructions
7

Protection from damage
Do not drop anything on the ap-
pliance. Even a light object such
as a salt cellar, could cause damage in
certain circumstances.
Do not use pots or pans on the ce-
ramic hob with bases with pro-
nounced edges or ridges. These could
scratch or scour the hob surface per-
manently. Grains of salt and sand can
also scratch.
Do not allow either solid or liquid
sugar or pieces of plastic or alumi-
nium foil to get on the cooking zones
when they are hot. If this should occur,
switch off the hob and carefully scrape
off all the sugar, plastic or aluminium re-
mains from the hob while it is still hot
using a shielded scraper blade.
Careful:
Danger of burning.
Take care not to burn yourself. If these
residues are allowed to cool before the
hob surface has been cleaned, the ce-
ramic surface will be susceptible to pit-
ting or even cracking.
Clean the appliance once it has cooled
down.
Remove any soiling as quickly as
possible to prevent it from burning
on to the ceramic surface and ensure
that pan bases are clean, dry and free
of grease before use.
Under no circumstances use a
steam cleaning appliance to clean
the ceramic hob. Pressurised steam
could cause permanent damage to the
surface and to components, for which
the manufacturer cannot accept re-
sponsibility.
Never place hot pans near the con-
trol area. This could damage the
electronic controls underneath.
If a drawer is fitted directly under-
neath the hob, ensure that there is
sufficient space between the drawer
and its contents and the underside of
the appliance in order to ensure suffi-
cient ventilation for the hob.
In countries where there are areas
which may be subject to infesta-
tion by cockroaches or other vermin,
pay particular attention to keeping the
appliance and its surroundings in a
clean condition at all times. Any dam-
age which may be caused by cock-
roaches or other vermin will not be
covered by the appliance guarantee.
Warning and Safety instructions
8

Protection from burning
The surface of the hob is hot when
in use, and remains hot for a time
after being switched off. Keep children
away. There is a danger of burning
until the residual heat indicator goes
out.
Do not store anything which might
arouse a child’s interest in storage
areas above or next to the appliance.
Otherwise they could be tempted into
climbing onto the appliance with the
risk of burning themselves.
Use heat-resistant pot holders or
gloves when handling hot pots and
pans. Take care not to let pot holders
or gloves get damp or wet, as this
causes heat to transfer quicker with the
risk of burning yourself.
Keep all pans out of reach of child-
ren. Turn pan handles inwards
away from the edge of the hob. Danger
of burning or scalding.
Special hob guards are available from
good retail outlets as additional protec-
tion.
Do not heat up unopened con-
tainers of food, e.g. tins, on the
hob, as pressure can build up and they
may explode. This could result in injury
and scalding or damage.
Do not use the hob as a resting
place for anything else and never
place metallic objects on it. This could
lead to danger of the article, depend-
ing on the type of material, beginning
to melt or catching fire, if residual heat
were still present or if the hob were to
be switched on inadvertently.
Never cover the hob with a cloth or
a hob cover sheet. There is a
danger of this burning if the hob is
switched on.
Never leave the hob unattended
when cooking with oil or fat, as
these are fire hazards if overheated.
Overheated fat could ignite and even
set the cooker hood on fire. Always
heat fat slowly, watching as it heats.
If oil or fat does catch fire despite
this do not attempt to put out the
flames with water. Use a suitable fire
blanket or fire extinguisher.
Never flambé under a cooker
hood. The flames could set the
cooker hood on fire.
If a drawer is fitted directly under-
neath the hob ensure that no aero-
sols, combustible liquids or other easily
flammable materials are kept in it. If cut-
lery inserts are to be placed in the
drawer, these must be made of a suit-
able heat-resistant material.
Warning and Safety instructions
9

Appliance fault
In the event of damage or any
breakages or cracks the ceramic
hob must be switched off immediately
and disconnected from the electricity
supply. Contact the Service Depart-
ment. Ensure the hob is not recon-
nected and do not use the hob until the
damaged ceramic plate has been re-
placed. Continued use would be dan-
gerous as liquids etc. boiling over
could penetrate to the electrical compo-
nents through any crack.
Ensure that the appliance is dis-
connected from the electricity sup-
ply before any servicing or repair work.
Any repairs may only be carried
out by suitably qualified and com-
petent persons to ensure safety. Re-
pairs and other work by unqualified per-
sons could be dangerous. Under no
circumstances open the outer casing
of the appliance.
While the appliance is under guar-
antee repairs should only be under-
taken by a service engineer authorised
by the manufacturer. Otherwise the
guarantee is invalidated.
Warning and Safety instructions

Further safety notes
For people fitted with a heart pace
maker:
Please note that the area immediate-
ly surrounding the hob is electro
magnetically charged and that this
could affect a pace maker.
If in any doubt consult the manufac-
turer of the pace maker or a doctor.
Ensure pans are placed centrally
over the cooking zone to prevent
unecessary exposure to the electro-
magnetic field.
When using an electric socket
near the hob, care should be taken
that the cable of the electrical ap-
pliance does not come into contact
with the hot cooking zones. The insula-
tion on the cable could become dam-
aged giving rise to an electric shock ha-
zard.
Always ensure that food is suffi-
ciently cooked or reheated. Some
foods may contain micro organisms
which are only destroyed by thorough
cooking, therefore when cooking or re-
heating foods, e.g. poultry, select a
longer cooking or reheating time.
Do not use plastic or aluminium foil
containers. These melt at higher
temperatures and could damage the
ceramic surface. Fire hazard.
Do not use pans with very thin
bases and never heat up empty
pans as they could get damaged.
To prevent damage to items which
are susceptible to magnetic fields,
e.g. credit cards, diskettes, pocket cal-
culators etc. do not leave them in the
immediate vicinity of the hob.
Keep children away from the ap-
pliance at all times.
Before discarding an old ap-
pliance switch off and disconnect
it from the power supply. Cut off and
render any plug useless. Cut off the
cable directly behind the appliance to
prevent misuse. This should be done
by a competent person. Ensure that the
appliance presents no danger to child-
ren while being stored for disposal.

Before using for the first time
General notes
Before using for the first time or after a
power cut you will have to de-activate
the child safety lock. See "Child safety
lock" section later in this booklet.
This appliance operates using the in-
duction principle. This means that the
cooking zones will only work if they are
covered by a pan with a magnetic
base (see section “Suitable pans”).
A light humming or clicking sound may
be audible when the appliance is
switched on. This is quite normal with
induction heat.
The data plate for your appliance is
supplied with this documentation. This
should be stuck into the space pro-
vided at the end of the instruction
book. The address of the nearest Ser-
vice Department is given on the back
page. When contacting the Service De-
partment, please quote the Model and
Serial No. of the appliance, both of
which can be found on the data plate.
Keep these instructions in a safe place
for reference, and pass them on to any
future user.
Before using for the first time
12

Disposal of the packing ma-
terial
The transport and protective packing
has been selected from materials
which are environmentally friendly for
disposal and can normally be recycled.
Rather than just throwing these ma-
terials away, please ensure that they
are offered for recycling.
Disposal of your old appliance
Old appliances contain materials which
can be reclaimed or recycled. Please
contact your dealer, your local waste
collection centre or scrap merchant
about potential recycling schemes.
Before disposing of an old ap-
pliance switch off and disconnect it
from the power supply. Cut off and
render any plug useless. Cut off the
cable directly behind the appliance
to prevent misuse. This should be
done by a competent person.
Ensure that the appliance presents
no danger to children while being
stored for disposal.
The manufacturer cannot be held liable
for damage caused by non-compliance
with these safety instructions.
Before using for the first time
13

Cleaning and heating-up for
the first time
Before using for the first time, clean the
appliance with a damp cloth only and
then wipe dry.
Do not use washing-up liquid on the
ceramic surface as it can leave a
blue sheen on the surface which
may be difficult to remove.
Metal components have a protective
coating which may give off a slight
smell when the hob is heated up for
the first time.
The smell and any vapours will dissi-
pate after a short time and do not indi-
cate a faulty connection or appliance.
Before using for the first time
14

Use
The induction principle
An induction coil is located under each
cooking zone. When a zone is switched
on this coil creates a magnetic field.
This magnetic field in turn creates (in-
duces) current in the base of the pan
on it (which must be magnetic) and this
heats up the base of the pan. The cook-
ing zone itself is heated up indirectly by
the heat given back off by the pan.
The following points should be noted
when cooking by induction:
–An induction cooking zone will only
react to pans with a magnetic base
(see section on “Suitable pans”). Un-
suitable pans will not heat up.
–Induction cooking zones adapt their
power output to the diameter of the
pan base:
smaller diameter = lower output
larger diameter = greater output
However, for induction to function
correctly a minimum pan base
diameter is required (see section on
“Suitable pans”).
–Induction cooking zones do not work
with unsuitable pans or with no pan
on them.
If a pan is taken off the zone during
cooking, the magnetic field or cook-
ing zone is immediately switched off,
the cooking zone symbol goes out
and the symbol ßappears in the dis-
play:
As long as a suitable pan is placed
back on the cooking zone whilst the
symblol ßis lit up, the magnetic field
or cooking zone will switch itself
back on again automatically and con-
tinue to operate at the power setting
it was previously set to.
The cooking zone will switch off auto-
matically after 10 minutes and 0will
appear in the display if a pan is not
placed on it during this period.
If the pan is put back on the zone any
later than this then you will have to
switch the zone back on again yourself.
As induction reacts to magnetic met-
al do not use the hob as a resting
place for anything.
Use
15

Saucepans
Types of pans
Induction cooking zones only work
when covered by a pan which has a
magnetic base.
Suitable pans include:
–stainless steel with a magnetic base
–enamelled steel
–cast iron
The following pans are not suitable:
–stainless steel without a magnetic
base
–aluminium, copper
–glass, ceramic, or earthenware
To test a pot or pan for suitability for
use on an induction hob:
fill the pan with some water and
place it on the cooking zone.
switch the zone on and select a high
power setting.
If the pan is not suitable the power set-
ting shown in the display for that cook-
ing zone will go out after a few seconds
and ßwill show in the display.
Do not use pans with very thin
bases and never heat up an empty
pan as it could be damaged.
Pan size
The diameter of the pan base must be
of a minimum size for the induction
zone to function. If the pan is too small
the zone may not switch on and the
symblol ßwill appear in the display.
Tips on saving energy
A lid on the pan will help prevent heat
being lost.

Function of the sensor swit-
ches
This hob is equipped with electronic
sensor switches. These react to finger
contact.
There is a separate sensor switch for
operating each cooking zone.
An audible tone confirms when a sen-
sor switch reacts to being touched.
Make sure that only one sensor
switch is touched at a time. Take
care to keep the control area clean.
Do not put things down on it. The
sensors may fail to react or they
could mistake the article or any dirt
for a finger contact, thereby activat-
ing a function or even leading to the
hob switching itself off automatically
(see section on “Safety switch-off”).
Never place hot pans on the sensor
switches. This can damage the elec-
tronics.
Switching on the hob
The hob must be switched on before
any of the zones can be used.
Proceed as follows:
Touch the ON /OFF sensor switch s.
The hob is now switched on and a 0ap-
pears in each of the zone displays. (If a
zone is hot its display shows an Hfor re-
sidual heat; see section on “Switching
off”). If no further entry is made the
zeros disappear and the hob switches
itself off for safety reasons after approx.
10 seconds.
Switching on a cooking zone:
Select a power setting between 1
and 9by touching the -or +sensor
switch for that zone.
Use
17

Auto heat-up
When Auto heat-up has been acti-
vated, the cooking zone switches on
automatically at the highest setting
(heat up) and then switches to the con-
tinued cooking setting which you have
previously selected. The “heat up”time
depends on which continued cooking
setting has been chosen (see chart).
How to activate Auto heat-up:
Select power setting 9by touching
the -or +sensor switch.
Press the +sensor switch again.
Whilst pressing the +sensor switch an
Awill show in the display. When you
take your finger off the +sensor switch
the power setting 9will alternate in the
display with the A.
Whilst the Aand the 9are flashing al-
ternately, you can use the -sensor
switch to select a continued cooking
setting.
If the display has stopped flashing
press the +sensor switch again.
During the heat-up time the Aand the
selected continued setting e.g. 7alter-
nate in the display.

You can increase the continued cook-
ing setting at any time during the heat-
up time by pressing the +sensor
switch. The heat-up time will increase
accordingly.
The continued cooking setting can,
however, only be reduced using the -
sensor switch during the first few sec-
onds after activating the Auto heat-up
function. After this time reducing the
continued cooking time will switch the
Auto heat-up function off.
Taking a pan off the zone whilst Auto
heat-up is in operation interrupts the
Auto heat-up. It resumes when the pan
is placed back on the cooking zone.

19

Booster function
The rear left cooking zone is equipped
with a Booster function, i.e. an increase
to the power level.
If activated, this cooking zone will oper-
ate on power setting 9with an extra
boost of power for a period of 5
minutes. This boost is intended for
quickly bringing large quantites of
water to the boil, e.g. when cooking
pasta.
Proceed as follows:
Switch the hob on.
Press the Booster function sensor
switch.
The display for the rear left cooking
zone shows power setting 9, and the in-
dicator for the Booster function also
lights up.
After a period of 5 minutes the zone
automatically reverts to the normal
power setting 9, and the Booster func-
tion indicator light goes out.
The Booster function can be cancelled
prematurely by:
–pressing the sensor switch for the
Booster function again,
–pressing the -sensor switch for the
rear left cooking zone.
This extra boost of energy is only avail-
able for the rear left zone by taking a
proportion of energy away from the
front left cooking zone. Whilst the Boos-
ter function is engaged the front left
zone will only operate at a maximum
power setting of 7, even when a higher
setting e.g. 8, is selected. To indicate
that this is happening an 8flashes alter-
nately with a 7in the display until the
Booster switches off.
Engaging the Booster also automati-
cally overrides any Auto heat-up func-
tion set for either of the two left hand
cooking zones.
Taking a pan off the zone whilst the
Booster function is in operation inter-
rupts the Booster function. It resumes
when the pan is placed back on the
cooking zone.
