1. GENERALDESCRIPTION
This isthe user's manual for the AJ71 PB92 PROFIBUS-DPinterfacemodule
(hereafter "AJ71PB92"), which is used to connect a MELSEC-A
series pro-
grammable controllerto a PROFIBUS-DP network.
The AJ71 PB92 operatesas a master station (class 1) in the PROFIBUS-DP
network.

The AJ71 PB92 hasaphysical layer, datalink layer, DDLM, anduser interface
that conformto PROFIBUS-DP, and communicatesdata with the PC CPUby
using a buffer memory.
The mainapplication
of PROFIBUS-DPis networksthat execute high-speed
communication at the level
of sensors and actuators,andthe AJ71 PB92has
been designed with this in mind: its functions are mainly relatedto data I/O
with slave stations.

12 Features of the AJ71 PB92
By setting parameters usingthe utility software package,the AJ71PB92 can
be used as a
PROFIBUS-DP master station (class 1).
By using X and Y I/O signalsand the buffer memory,the AJ71PB92 can
exchange
1/0 data with slave stations.
Thenetworkcommunicationspeed can be
selected from among the
following options by
DIP switch setting: 9.6,19.2,93.75,187.5, 500,
1500
kbps.
The module’s station number can be set with a rotary switch
(1 or 2).
By
using X and Y I/O signals and thebuffer memory, the AJ71PB92 can
read fault informationfrom slave stations.

An example configurationof a systemincludingan AJ71PB92isshown below.
The
AJ7l PB92 has been developed as abuilding-block type communication
module for use
with MELSEC-A series equipment.
An IBM PC/AT or 100% compatibleis used as the operationcontrol terminal
and
a utility software package has been developedto run on it.

from Siemens, and a parameter file is created. This file
is transferred

24 Cautions on System Configuration
The AJ71PB92 can be installed in any slot of the base unit, except for the
following cases:
(1)Avoid installing the AJ71PB92onan extension base unit that hasno
power supply module (A5[
] type extension base units) since there is a
possibility that the power supplycapacity
will be insufficient.
If you do install the AJ71 PB92 on such anextension base unit, refer to
the user's manualfor the relevantCPU module for details on theappro-
priate power supply and other relevantinformation.
(2)
Do not install the AJ71 PB92 in the final slot of the 7th extension of an
A3CPU.

25 PrecautionsAgainstWiring
As one of the requirementstogive full playto AJ71PB92’s functions and make
up the systemwith high reliability, it is necessary to have an external wiring
unsusceptible to an influence of noise. Precautions against external wiring
of
AJ71PB92 is described below.
(1) Do not routethe wire of AJ71PB92 closeto or bundle it togetherwith the
main circuit and high-tensionlines,
or the load-carryinglines fromother
than the programmable controller. Otherwise, the module may be sus-
ceptible to an influence of noise and surgeinduction.

(2) The wiresfrom theinputloutput modules ofthe programmable controller
should be away from the communication cable of
PROFIBUS-DS inter-
face module as far as possible as shownin the figure below.

(3) Grounding

(a) Whenthe PROFIBUS interfacemoduleisused, the FG andLG
terminals
of the power supply module of the programmable controller
should basically be grounded.
(b) If communicationcannot be performedaftergrounding because of
abnormalvottageapplied to the FG terminal,themodulemay be
used without grounding.

4.1 Communication with Slaves
The mainfunction of theAJ71PB92 is the communication of I/O data with
slave stations connected in thePROFIBUS-DPnetwork. This communication
is executed by reading frowwriting to the inputandoutput images inthe
buffer memory
by using FROM/TO instructions. A summary of the communi-
cation function is presented in the figure
below.

(1 ) Communication start completionsignal (XOO)
(a) This signal comes
ON after the communication start request signal
(YOO) has been turned
ON, providedthe communicationcheck with
the slaves is normal.
(b)
It goes OFF when the communication start request signal has been
turned
OFF, or when an error that stops communicationoccurs.
(c)
It is used as an interlock when readinwwriting I/O data.
(d) After turningYO0
ON, if it is not possibleto start communicationwith
one
or more slave stations,error code 0172h occurs and the turning
ON of X00 is delayed bythe Power up delay time (refer to the COM
ET
200 manual).
(2) Communicationfaultdetection signal (XO1)
(a) This signal comes
ON when a communicationfault has occurred.
(b) The RSP and
ERR LEDs come on simultaneously.
(c) At this time, the error code and detailed data are stored in the
communication fault area
of the buffer memory.
(d) This signalgoes
OFF when the communicationfault detection signal

ON.

(a) This signal comes ON after the communication fault area has been
