RF Exposure Compliance and Control Guidelines
To controlyour exposure, and ensure compliancewith the relevant RF exposure limits, alwaysadhere to the
followingguidelines:
•Do not remove any of the RF Exposure Labels if present from this device or its related accessories.
•Attachthese instructionsto the device whenyou transferit to other users.
•Do not use this device if the operationalrequirementsdescribedherein are not met.
Operating Instructions
•Transmitno more than 50% of the time. To transmit(talk), press the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button.To receive
calls,release the PTT button.Transmittingmore than 50% of the time may cause RF exposure compliance
requirementsto be exceeded.
•Transmitonly when people (bystanders) outside the vehicle are at least at the recommendedminimum
lateraldistance (as shown in Tables 1 and 2) away fromthe vehicle body. This separationwill ensure that
thereis sufficientdistance froma properlyinstalled (accordingto the installationinstructions)externally-
mountedantenna to satisfy the relevant RF exposure limits.
•To ensure continuedcompliancewith applicableRF exposure limits, use only MotorolaSolutions approved,
suppliedor replacementantennas,batteries,and accessories.

•Make sure to follow the antenna installationguidelines that are provided in this mobile radio installation
manual.
•Use only MotorolaSolutions approved supplied antenna, or a Motorola Solutions approved replacement
antenna.Unauthorized antennas, modifications,or attachmentscould damage the radio and may result in
non-compliancewith RF Safety Standards.
Guidelinesand Operating Instructions for Mobile Two-Way Radios Installedas Fixed Site Control
Stations
If mobileradio equipmentis installedand operatedat a fixed location,the antennainstallationmust comply
with the followingrequirementsin order to ensure optimal performanceand compliancewith applicableRF
exposure limits.
•The antenna should be mountedoutside the buildingon the roof or a tower if at all possible.
•As with all fixed site antennainstallations,it is the responsibilityof the licensee to managethe site in
accordancewith applicableregulatoryrequirements.Actions such as site survey measurements,signage,
and site access restrictionsmay be requiredin order to ensure compliancewith RF exposure limits.

ElectromagneticInterference/Compatibility
Nearly every electronic device is susceptible to electromagneticinterference(EMI) if inadequatelyshielded,
designed,or otherwise configuredfor electromagneticcompatibility.It may be necessary to conduct
compatibilitytesting to determineif any electronicequipmentused in or around vehicles or near fixed sites
equippedwith mobileradio equipmentis susceptible to the RF energy emittedby the mobileradio antenna,
and if any measures need to be implementedto eliminateor mitigatethe potential for EMI betweenthe radio
transmitterand the electronicequipment.
Vehicles
To avoid possible interferencebetween the radio transmitter and any vehicleelectroniccontrol modules, such
asABS, engine,or transmission control modules,your mobileradio should be installedonly by an
experiencedinstaller, using the followingprecautionswhen installing the radio:
1. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or other technical bulletins for recommendations on radio
installation.
2. Beforeinstalling the radio, determinethe locationof the vehicle electroniccontrolmodulesand their
harnesses within the vehicle.
3. Routeall radio wiring,includingthe antenna cable, as far away as possible fromthe electroniccontrol units
and associated harnesses.

Operational Warnings
The followingexplains the operationalwarnings:
•For Vehicle With Air Bags
–Refer to vehicle manufacturer'smanualprior to installationof electronicequipmentto avoid interference
with air bag wiring.
–DO NOT place a portableradio in the area over an air bag or in the air bag deploymentarea.Air bags
inflatewith great force.If a portableradio is placed in the air bag deploymentarea and the air bag
inflates,the radio may be propelledwith great force and cause serious injury to occupantsof the vehicle.
•Potentially ExplosiveAtmospheres
–Use of a radio that is not intrinsicallysafe in a potentiallyexplosive atmospherecould result in a serious
injuryor death.You should only use a certifiedIntrinsicallySafe radio in potentiallyexplosive
atmospheres.
–Explosive atmospheresreferto hazard classified locationsthat may contain hazardousgas, vapors,
dusts, such as fuelingareas below decks on boats, fuelor chemicaltransferorstorage facilities,and
areas where the air contains chemicalsor particles such as grain,dust or metal powders.Areas with
potentiallyexplosive atmospheresare often, but not always, posted.
–Turn off your radio prior to entering any area with a potentiallyexplosive atmosphere unless it is a radio
type specificallycertifiedfor use in hazardous locationareas.
–DO NOT remove, install, or chargebatteriesin such areas, or removeor install antennas.Sparks in a
potentiallyexplosive atmospherecan cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death.

•Blasting Caps and BlastingAreas
To avoid possible interferencewith blasting operations,turn off your radio when you are near electrical
blasting caps, in a blasting area, or in areas posted: “Turn off two-way radio.” Obey all signs and
instructions.

Batteries
If your mobileradio is equippedwith a primaryor backupbattery, you must followthese instructions:
•Charge your battery using the approved Motorola Solutionscharger.
•Use the battery in accordancewith its water and/or dust Ingress Protection (IP) rating.
•Do not discard your battery into a fire.
•Do not replace the battery in any area labeled "HazardousAtmosphere".
•Do not disassemble, crush, puncture, shred, or otherwise attempt to change the form of your battery.
•Do not dry a wet or damp battery with an applianceor heat source, such as a hair dryer or microwaveoven.
•Do not allow conductivematerialsuch as jewelry, keys, or beadedchains to touch exposed battery
terminals.

•ASTRO®25 Enhanced Data
ASTRO®25 EnhancedData is optimizedto handle differentmessage sizes and variable update rates from
differentapplicationsof the radio.Add EnhancedData to the IntegratedData system with a software
installationto improve data channelefficiencyand enabledenser networktraffic.
•Dynamic System Resilience(DSR)
DSR ensures the radio system is seamlessly switched to a backupmaster site dynamicallyin case of
system failure.DSR also provides additional indicatione.g. failuredetection,fault recovery, and
redundancywithin the system to address to the user in need. Mechanismsrelated to the IntegratedVoice
and Data (IV & D) or data centric are all supported by DSR.
•CrossTalk Prevention
This featureprevents crosstalk scenario from happening,especially when a wideband antenna is used.
This featureallows the adjustmentof the TridentTransmitting SSI clock rate in the radio to be varied from
the Receiving Frequency.This subsequentlyreducedthe possibilities of radio frequencyinterferingspurs
and prevents the issues of crosstalk.

EID provides security encryption and authenticationof IV & D data bearer service communicationbetween
the radio and the Customer Enterprise Network.
•SecureNet
SecureNetallows user to performsecured communicationson anAnalog or MotorolaSolutions Data
Communication(MDC) channel.
The MDC OTAR featurewill allow users to performOTAR activitieson an MDC channel.
•Over-the-Air Rekeying
The Over-the-Air Rekeying (OTAR) featureallowsthe dispatcher to remotelyreprogramencryptionkeys in
the radio after a rekey request.
Single-system OTAR –Single-system OTAR allowsa radio to be rekeyed by only one Key Management
Facility(KMF) or Key ManagementController (KMC).
Multi-systemOTAR –Multi-system OTAR allowsa radio to be rekeyed by multiple KMFs.After an initial
programming,the radio is able to seamlessly move to differentsecure systems associated to a newly
selectedchannel.
•P25 Digital Vehicular Repeater System (DVRS)
MotorolaSolutions offersan MSI CertifiedAPX compatible,3rd Party, P25 Digital VehicularRepeater
System (DVRS) that provides low cost portableradio coverage in areas where only mobile radio coverage
is available and portable radio coverage is either intermittentor non-existent.
