TheMT128ZLX-ST/NTisacredit-card-sizeISDNterminaladapter.Itisplug-and-playcompatible. The
MT128ZLX-ST/NTisaTypeIIPCMCIA(PC-card)devicewithathicknessof5mm. Itcomplieswiththe
PCMCIAStandardRelease2.1andJEIDA4.2. TheMT128ZLX-STworkswiththe“S/T”ISDNinterface.
TheMT128ZLX-NTworkswiththe“U”ISDNinterface. OtherwisetheMT128ZLX-STandtheMT128ZLX-
NTarefunctionallyequivalent.
TheMT128ZLXiscompatiblewithcommonISDNtelephonyswitchtypes,includingNI-1,AT&T5-ESS,
NortelDMS-100,ETSI,andJapanINS-64. ItusesBasic-Rate-Interface(ISDN-BRI)serviceandoperatesat
dataspeedsupto128Kbps.
TheMT128ZLXsupportsmostcommoncommunicationsprotocols(includingV.110,V.120,PPP,MLP,
MLP+BOD,andHDLCTransparent).

MT128ZLX-ST/NT & Computer Operating Systems
Proceduresfor installing,verifying,configuring,andun-installingtheMT128ZLXarequitedifferentfor
eachoperatingsystem. TheuseofApplicationProgramInterfacesalsodifferssignificantlyfromone
operatingsystemtoanother. Forthisreason,thismanualcontainsaseparatechapterforeachoperating
system. Theoperatingsystemsare:

BeforeyoucaninstalltheMT128ZLXinyourcomputerunderanyoperatingsystem,youwillneedto
obtaininformationfromyourtelephonecompanyaboutyourISDNservice. Theinformationneededis
thatwhichisspecifictothewayISDNisimplementedwiththespecifictelephonyequipmentthatyour
telephonecompanyusesinadditiontospecificinformationaboutyourownindividualISDNaccount. You

packages: NDIS,VCOMM,orCAPI. Thefullnamesoftheseprogramsareasfollows:
NDIS(NetworkDriverInterfaceSpecification):
VCOMM(VirtualCommunicationsDriver):
CAPI(CommonISDNApplicationProgramInterface):
EachAPIcontainssoftwarecomponentsthatinteractwiththeoperatingsystem(OS)ofthecomputerin
whichtheMT128ZLXisinstalled. The“APIUsage”sectionofeachOS-specificchapterwillpresent
examplesofhowtheMT128ZLXcanbeusedwiththeseAPIsinthatparticular OS. (TheCAPI-compliant
programusedintheseexamplesisRVS-COMLite.)
EachAPIaddscommunicationsfunctionalitytothesystem. EachofthethreeAPIsaddsadifferentsetof
featurestothesystem,althoughtheAPIshavesubstantialfunctionalityincommonwitheachother.

Neverinstalltelephonewiringduringalightningstorm.
Neverinstalltelephonejacksinwetlocationsunlessthejacksarespecificallydesignedforwetlocations.
