6.1.1 Replacing Ink cartridges
See the following changes.
•You can use four-color or seven-color ink cartridges for VJ-2638.
•When using seven colors, you need the following cartridges.
•Magenta (M): 1 cartridge
•Light Magenta (Lm): 1 cartridge
•Cyan (C): 1 cartridge
•Light Cyan (Lc): 1 cartridge
•Cleaning Liquid (CL): 1 cartridge
•Black (K): 1 cartridge
•Yellow (Y): 1 cartridge
•Light Black (Lk): 1 cartridge
•For seven-color setting, the ink cartridge position is as follows (same position as for using 440ml cartridges).

3.5.6 Head adjustment
The following descriptions are added to the operation manual.
You can print out the adjustment pattern in this menu to check the misalignment between the print
heads, and then adjust it.
Adjustment Description
Standard Adjustment is performed only for the print mode set by the current
User Type.
Custom Adjustment is performed for all print modes that can be set by the
current User Type.
1. Turn ON the printer and load the roll media.
2. Follow the procedure below to display the menu.
a. Press the [Menu] key.
・” Menu 1: Setup>” will be displayed first.
b. Press the [-] key to select “Menu 2: Test Print>”
c. Press the [>] key.
・”Test1: Nozzle Check” will be displayed first.
d. Press the [+] key to select “Test 6: HeadAdjust>”.
e. Press the [>] key.
・”HeadAdj.1: Standard” will be displayed first.
・If you want to select “Standard”, go to the procedure 3.
・If you want to select “Custom”, go to the procedure f.
f. Press the [+] key to select “HeadAdj.2: Custom”
g. Press the [Enter] key.
h. Press the [+] or [-] key to select from “Adj.1: AdjustALL” to “Adj.7: AdjustPatternF”.
・”AdjustALL” performs the head adjustment for all patterns.
If you are not sure which print mode will be used in RIP, select “AdjustALL”.
3. Press the [Enter] key.
• The printer starts printing the adjustment pattern.
• The panel displays “Pattern B: 4 (for example)”.
• The pattern name differs depending on the print mode.

4. Check the print results that looks most aligned between one and seven.
・when the line is aligned, the bold line on its left side does not have a white vertical line.
5. Press the [+] key or [-] key on Operation panel to enter the number that you selected in Step
4.
6. Press the [Enter] key to determine the setting.

3.6 Print quality adjustment
See the following changes.
・ The function to enter the media thickness is added.
Select “ **>2: Adjust Print>” and press the [>] key. “Thickness 170µm” will be displayed.
Press the [+] or [-] key to enter the media thickness from 80μm to 2800μm and then press the [Enter]
key. For the following procedure, see the operation manual.
・ Confirmation pattern and Adjustment pattern are changed.
When the line is aligned, the bold line on its left side does not have a white vertical line.
・ In the “Custom Rough pattern”, A-F patterns can be adjusted individually.
Press the [Enter] in “Adj.Print2: Custom” and select from “Adj.3: RoughPatternA” to “Adj.8:
RoughPatternF”.
Select “Adj.2: Rough ptn. ALL” to print all patterns.
・ The print information will be printed on the right side of the pattern.

5.1.20 CR Maintenance menu
5.1.1.1 User Type advanced setup menu
The following menu is added to the list after “Vacuum Fan”.

Type 1 - Type 15 Media Thickness Set the media thickness that you use.
[Enter] key: shifts to the sub menu.
UserCopy Copies the setting values of the user type currently
selected to a different user type collectively.
[Enter] key: shifts to the sub menu.
5.1.1.1.8 Media thickness menu
Set the media thickness that you use.
Once the media thickness is entered, print quality is automatically adjusted.

Media Thickness 80µm to <170µm> to
2800µm Enter the thickness of the media you are using in increments of 10µm.
- [Enter] key: saves the setting and shifts to the previous
menu.
[Cancel] key: cancels the setting and shifts to the previous
menu.
5.1.1.1 User Type advanced setup menu

This menu is to automatically adjust print quality to a certain extent. If you want to improve print quality,
manually adjust it. 3.6 Print quality adjustment
There is no problem even if you adjust print quality without setting the media thickness.

5.1.1.1.9 UserCopy menu
Copies the setting values of the user type currently selected to a different user type collectively. The following
setting values are copied.
・ Print mode
・ Effect
・ Adjustment value for the adjustment print
・ Feed compensation (initial adjustment printing length, initial adjustment value, micro adjustment value)
・ Pre-heater/Platen/Dryer(2638/1638X only)
・ Vacuum Fan
・ Media Thickness
Setup item Setting Description
UserCopy <1> - 15, ALL
When user type is set to 1:
<2> to 15, ALL
・The setting values of the current user type are copied to the
selected user type.
・When you have selected ALL, the setting values of the current user
type are copied to the all other user types.
- ・[Enter] key: saves the setting and shifts to the previous menu.
・[Cancel] key: cancels the setting and shifts to the previous menu.
5.1.1.1 User Type advanced setup menu
5.1.6.2 Page Gap menu
When "Output Mode" is set to "Take up", the menu is shifted to "Page Gap".
In the Page Gap menu, you can change the margin setting between images.

Page Gap <Normal> The margin setting between images is same as the
previous specification.
Narrow The margin setting between images is smaller than
Normal.

5.1.17.2 Print Stop menu
You can set whether or not to display “Roll Remain Error” and pause printing when the length of the roll media that
is counted inside the printer becomes 0.
Normally you can set this as “Off” as the rear sensor detects when the roll paper is finished.
If you are using the roll media that does not come off the paper core easily when it is finished, printing may not be paused
when the roll media is finished, if the print pause menu is set to “Off”. If this happens, set this to “On”.
When “Roll Remain Error” or “Roll Near End” has occurred while the Print Pause menu is set to “On”, if you lower the media
set lever after replacing to the new roll media, the Roll Media Length Setting menu is displayed. Enter the length of the roll
media you have set.

Print Stop <Off> The roll media remaining count is not used to judge for pausing printing.
Printing pauses when the rear sensor responds.
[Enter] key: saves the setting and shifts to the sub menu.

roll media remaining count becomes 0.

5.1.17.3 Near End Menu
You can display “Roll Near End: *m” (* is replaced with a number between 1 and 10) before the length of the roll
media that is counted inside the printer becomes 0.

Near end <Off> “Near end” is not displayed.
Remain: 10 m to 1 m “Near end” is displayed when the remaining count for the roll media
becomes the length you selected.

5.1.29 Start Feed Menu
When Start Feed is set, before printing, the printer rewinds or feeds the media the amount specified by the set value.
Setup Item Setting Description
Start Feed -10mm to <0mm> to 500mm Sets the amount to rewind or feed the media before
printing starts.
・Value over 0: Feeds the media (with a wider margin
before printing starts).
・Value equal to 0: Neither rewinds nor feeds the media.
・Value below 0: Rewinds the media.
- ・[Enter] key: saves the setting and shifts to the previous
menu.
・[Cancel] key: cancels the setting and shifts to the
previous menu.

With take-up system: if you want to set "Start Feed" to below 0, set "Page Gap" to "Narrow".
If not, the Start Feed setting is not reflected properly.
