Homemade with Love
Prepackaged baby foods are heated to extreme temperatures to kill off
any bacteria and extend shelf life. This process also reduces the natural
nutrients and good bacteria found in foods. Many also contain starchy
fillers to lower the manufacturing cost.
When you make your own baby food, you control the whole process.
You can select the highest quality foods and steam or serve fresh, as
appropriate, maximizing the nutritional value of the food your baby eats.
It is especially important to make the most of calories for tiny tummies.
Preserve Nutrients - Make Every Calorie Count
There are many rewarding benefits from making your own
baby food. It is a choice you can make to ensure that your
baby is receiving the best quality nutrition. Here are a few
reasons parents make this choice.
Prepackaged baby foods are generally more expensive than the
cost of purchasing and preparing fresh ingredients yourself. This is
because manufacturers also have to pay for preparation, packaging
and advertising costs. It is also an eco-friendly choice as you can use
reusable containers instead or disposable packaging.
Economical and Eco-Friendly
You can select the exact type and quality of food to put in your
homemade baby foods. You can use organic only to reduce pesticides.
You can even grow your own foods. If your baby has a food allergy, you
can rest assured that you know exactly what ingredients go into his
food.
Hand-picked Ingredients
GardenFreshCookbook.indd 8 6/27/14 2:50 PM

9
Store bought baby foods are limited to the available selection. When you
make your baby food, you can provide foods like avocado (very nutrient
dense, but hard to find pre-packaged). You can also mix and match
foods and create your own recipes with age appropriate foods.
Greater Variety of Available Foods
Preparing your own baby food allows you to use the same ingredients
you use for the rest of your family. You can also choose the exact texture
of food and adjust it as your baby grows. You can begin to add spices
(consult with doctor for recommendations). Your baby will be exposed
to the flavors of your family meals, making the transition to table food
easier.
Easier Transition to Eating Family Table Food
Purchasing organic foods is a personal choice. However, there
are some foods where it may be particularly beneficial. The USDA
has a list of foods which are particularly high in pesticides. These
are known as the “Dirty Dozen.”

Making your own baby food is actually a very simple process. You can
easily prepare a week’s worth of food in just minutes. It all comes down
to three simple steps:
GETTING STARTED
PREP - Includes selecting, washing, peeling,
cutting, and cooking (if needed) the fresh
ingredients for your baby’s food.
STORE - You can serve food immediately, but often
you will want to make batches of food to serve
later. You may store in refrigerator for up to 3 days
or in the freezer for about 30 days.
FEED - Time for baby to enjoy the nutritious and
delicious foods you have prepared especially with
him or her in mind.

STEP 1 - PREP
Select a recipe from your baby’s current Stage. The recipes in this book
will indicate with icons which components you will need to use.
The Batch Bowl
The larger of the two cups is used for making larger batches of
food to store. It is BPA FREE. Never operate without lid.
The Short Cup
The smaller of the two cups is used for making small batches of
food to serve or store. It is BPA FREE. It includes a Stay Fresh lid for
storage.
The Power Base
The Power Base is designed for use with either cup. Highly
efficient with a stylish design and easy wipe surface.
t Do not submerge the Power Base in water and always unplug the Power Base
before cleaning it.
t Always make sure the cover is on the Batch Bowl when using.
t Keep hands and utensils away from the cutting blade while chopping or blending
food to reduce the risk of severe injury to person or damage to the blender
CAUTION!
The Blending Blade
The Blending Blade is used for puréeing and blending
foods. It can be used with either cup.
The Milling Blade
The Milling Blade is used for milling grains to make
cereals. Note: Only use with Short Cup
Note: In the base of the blades there is a plastic gasket that creates an airtight seal with the Baby
Food Blender vessels.
CHECK GASKET BEFORE EACH USE TO MAKE SURE IT IS COMPLETELY SEATED IN THE BLENDING BLADE
OR MILLING BLADE. THE GASKET MUST BE PROPERLY SEATED IN THE BLADE HOUSING OR IT WILL
COME LOOSE. THIS CAN RESULT IN LEAKAGE AND THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE BLADE CAN HOOK THE
GASKET AND CUT IT INTO PIECES.
The Steam Basket
The Steam Basket fits into the Batch Bowl. Seal Batch Bowl bottom
with lid from short cup before adding chopped veggies and water.
Steam in microwave until veggies reach desired softness.

Batch Bowl and prevent water
leaking.
Using Steam Basket with Batch Bowl
Directions for Using Garden Fresh™
Baby Food Blender Set for Making Perfect Purées
1 2 Add chopped and peeled
foods to be steamed. Use
clear measuring cup from
center of Batch Bowl Lid to
add 1/4 cup (2 oz) of water.
Place Batch Bowl lid on top,
leave center measuring cup
out to allow steam to vent.
Microwave until foods reach
desired softness. Allow to cool.
3After cooling, remove Steam
Basket and pour water into
another container. Reserve to
use when blending. Replace
Blending Blade and the clear
measuring cup.

Tips: You can try more or less water depending on food. Cooking time
will also vary by food. Here are some example microwaving times:

Milling Grains and Rice For Baby Cereal
ALWAYS use clean hands, clean cooking utensils, clean preparation surface, clean pots/pans, etc.
when making and preparing homemade baby food.
Cleanliness is VERY important when making homemade baby food.
Using Short Cup for Milling
Add the desired amount of grain or rice into the Short Cup.
Twist on the Milling Blade.
Place the Short Cup onto the Power Base and twist to start grinding.
Grind until you’ve achieved a fine powder.
Using the Pulse Action
Tips for Textures and Thicker Recipes
Use the pulse action to achieve a chunkier texture for older infants.
Simply hold the Power Base in one hand and press straight down on the
cup. It may help to apply slight counter-clockwise pressure with hand on
the Power Base to avoid twisting the cup into the purée mode.
Using the Shake Action
When working with thicker recipes, the extra density may result in a
difficulty to blend ingredients in the top part of the cup. To help ensure
even blending, remove the cup assembly from the Power Base and
shake to loosen ingredients. Repeat as necessary, until properly
blended.
Note: If you are still having difficultly, you may need to add more water
to adjust the consistency.

You can defrost frozen baby food in the refrigerator or place a sealed
