PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Faxability Switch 2 has been specifically designed to allow ANY
existing Fax or Fax/Modem device to receive Fax calls automatically
when using the Telecom Faxability service.
Faxability Switch 2 is TRANSPARENT in operation, which means that
it will not affect the normal use of your telephone line in any way and
will work with all other telephone devices that may be fitted to your line.
It has also been designed for quick and easy USER INSTALLATION on
to ANY TELEPHONE SOCKET, which will take you just a few minutes.
Faxability Switch 2 has additional features which are designed to
allow you the flexibility of :
* This device can be used with ANY Fax Machine.
* It has a special High Voltage Line Level facility which
allows it to work with some NEW model Telephones and
Fax Machines that incorporate a LINE IN USE barge in
facility.
* You can receive Fax calls that may be sent on your
normal voice number (please refer to pages 7-8).
* It will allow an Answering Machine that may be
integrated with your Fax device to take voice messages
from your normal voice number (please refer to page 6).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Unplug all equipment from the telephone socket to be used.
2. REMOVE the telephone line cord fitted to your FAX DEVICE (unplug
it from the new style modular RJ connection on your device).
3. CONNECT the modular end of this cable to the LINE IN port of
Faxability Switch 2. Leave the other end of this cable (with the male
Telecom plug) connected to your telephone line socket.
4. Using the supplied Modular RJ - Modular RJ line cord, CONNECT
the FAX DEVICE port of Faxability Switch 2 to the modular RJ style
input of your FAX DEVICE.
5. Connect your TELEPHONE, ANSWERING MACHINE or ANY
OTHERTELEPHONEDEVICEwhichyouintendtooperatefromthe
sametelephonesocket,directtothePHONEDEVICEPORT of your
LINESHARER,usingtheremainingModularRJ-ModularRJlinecord
andadouble telephoneadaptor (ifrequired).
6. SetyourFAXMACHINE(or Fax/Modem)toAUTO-ANSWERonthe
minimum number of rings possible.
Ifyou are usingaFax/Modemdevice, please ensurethatthisdevice
is set to FAX RECEIVE ONLY.
If you are using a FAX MACHINE, please ensure that it is set to FAX
RECEIVEONLY.
(ie; please ensure any Fax/Phone switching settings are disabled).
7. SettheDipSwitcheslocatedontheundersideoftheunittomeetyour
requirements. (Please refer to page 13).
8. Connect the supplied POWER ADAPTOR, switch the POWER ON
and installation is complete.
9. Test your system by having someone send a Fax Transmission to
your new Fax number (and original number if applicable).

OPERATING PROCEDURE
The operation of your EXISTING TELEPHONE NUMBER will remain
unchanged.
Whenyour NEW FAX NUMBER iscalled,yourtelephoneexchangewill
send a NEW RING PATTERN down your line, which is different to your
normalringpattern.
This new DISTINCTIVE RING pattern will be detected by Faxability
Switch 2 at the completion of the first ring.
Faxability Switch 2 will then answer the incoming call, generate a
conventional NZ ring output to cause your Fax Machine or Fax/Modem
(FAX Device) to answer, so that it will receive the incoming call.
Your unit has been programmed so that the first incoming ring for all
incomingcallsdoesnotpassthroughandringthetelephone(s)connected
to the PHONE DEVICE PORT.
By doing so, any or all telephones connected to the PHONE DEVICE
PORTofyourdevicewillnotringwheneveraFacsimile Transmissionis
beingreceived.
Your extension telephones (telephones in other rooms) which are not
connectedtoFaxabilitySwitch2willringonceonly,beforetheincoming
FAX Call is connected.
If you wish to receive Fax transmissions without your ‘extension
telephones’ ringing,theycanbe wired so that they allconnectdirect to
the PHONE DEVICE PORT of your device.
Thisprocedureshouldbecarriedoutbyanapprovedtelephonecabling
technician.

Answering Machine
WHEN USING ASEPARATE ANSWERING MACHINE
If a separateAnswering Machine is to be used on your telephone line, it
can be fitted direct to the PHONE DEVICE PORT of yourFaxability Switch
2, or it can be fitted on another extension telephone socket.
If it is to be fitted to an extension telephone socket, the ANSWERING
MACHINE must be set to answer on 2 or more rings at all times.
WHENUSING THEANSWERING MACHINE INYOUR FAXDEVICE
Your Faxability Switch 2 can divert all incoming calls to your Fax Device
after 8 UNANSWERED rings on your main phone number.
If your Fax Device has an integratedAnswering Machine it can then be
used to answer this call after the 8 ring delay.
Four Micro Dip Switches are located on the underside of the Faxability
Switch 2.
This option is selected by setting Dip Switch 3 to the ON position (see
below).
Note - When using this feature, your Fax device must be set to process
Voice Calls and Fax Calls.
If SW3 is set to ON -Divert call to Fax Device after 8 rings
If SW3 is set to OFF -Do Not Divert call to Fax Device

SAME NUMBER FAX RECEPTION
Faxability Switch 2 will also allow you to redirect incoming Fax calls
sent to your normal number, to your Fax machine or Fax device.
If you have been sharing your normal number with your Fax Machine in
the past, then you may occasionally receive Fax Calls on your main
number .
If you require this facility, please set Dip Switch 1 to the ON position
and refer to the following information:
FAX RECEPTION WHEN OFFICE IS ATTENDED
Answer all incoming calls as normal, on any telephone connected to
your line. If the incoming call is a Fax Call, you will hear a 'beep'
(known as a Fax Calling tone or CNG tone) shortly after you answer.
This Fax Call can be transferred to your Fax Machine, by hanging up
immediately. Providing you hang up this call within 6 seconds of
answering, Faxability Switch 2 will redirect this call to your Fax Device.
Note - It will do this regardless of whether the call is from a Fax or not
and regardless of which telephone on your line as been answered. It
will even work with cordless telephones. However if you do not hang up
in time, the call will be lost and you will need to wait until it calls back.
The 6 second period will provide you with enough time to determine if
the call is a Fax, and then to hang up. It is also short enough to prevent
false switching to your Fax Device whenever you have a very short
voice call. However if for any reason you do hang up on an incoming call
voice call within 6 seconds of answering the call, then the call will be
redirected and your line will be engaged for approximately 30 seconds
while your Fax Device has the call.
Other than the inconvenience of having to wait, it will not cause any
problem with your FAX Device.
If SW1 is set to ON - The 6 second hang-up timer is ENABLED
If SW1 is set to OFF - The 6 second hang-up timer is NOT REQUIRED

WHEN OFFICE IS UNATTENDED
Faxability Switch 2 can divert all incoming calls to your Fax Device
after 8 UNANSWERED rings on your main phone number.
Your Fax Device will then answer this call after the additional number of
rings set for it to answer (ie if your Fax Device is set to answer after 2
rings, your incoming calls will be answered in a total of 10 rings by your
Fax Device).
If your Fax Device has an integral Answering Machine capability, it
should be set to process Voice Calls and Fax Calls.
Note: If your Fax Device does not have an integralAnswering Machine
capability and you still wish to receive Fax calls sent to your normal
number when your site is unattended, then you can still use this facility.
However in this situation, Voice Callers that have waited a total of 10
rings will also be connected to your Fax.
This option is selected by changing the position of Dip Switch 3 to the
ON position (refer to section 'Dip Switch Settings').
If SW3 is set to ON -Divert call to Fax Device after 8 rings
If SW3 is set to OFF -Do Not Divert call to Fax Device

CALLER ID
CALLER ID is an optional Telephone line service where a callers
telephone number is sent from the telephone exchange to a special
CALLER ID reading device on your telephone line.
The callers phone number (unless the caller elects not to send this
information)issentasamodemtypetransmissionofinformationthatis
sent before the first full telephone ring of incoming telephone calls.
FaxabilitySwitch2initsdefaultconfiguration,doesNOTPASSthisfirst
full ring, as it analyses this ring as part of its Fax detection process.
This means that if your CALLER ID reading device is connected to
Faxability Switch 2, CALLER ID information will NOT pass through to
yourCALLERIDreadingdevice.
IfyourCALLERID readingdeviceisNOTconnectedtoFaxabilitySwitch
2, it will receive the CALLER ID.
IfyouplantousetheCALLERIDserviceandaCALLERIDreadingdevice
and this device is to be connected to Faxability Switch 2, then you
should set Dip Switch 4 to the ON position.
DIPSWITCH SETTINGS
Four Micro Dip Switches are located on the underside of the Line Sharer.
If you wish to set Faxability Switch 2 to operate with the CALLER ID
service please set :
Dip Switch 4 to the ON position.

FAX DEVICE WILL NOT DIAL
FaxabilitySwitch2initsdefaultconfiguration,isprogrammedtoremove
your FAX DEVICE from the telephone line and only connect your Fax
Device to the telephone line when you are sending or receiving a Fax
Transmission.
By doing so, Faxability Switch 2 can ENSURE that your FAX DEVICE
will NEVER INTERFERE with an incoming or outgoing telephone call.
Asmall numberofFaxDevices haverecently introducedanew ‘LineIn
Use’ facility which is designed to prevent Barge-In by your Fax when a
telephone call is taking place. This would normally prevent your Fax
Machine from Dialing Out from a telephone line switch.
FaxabilitySwitch2incorporatesaNEWHighVoltageLineLevel facility
which should allow it to work with these new machines.
However, should your Fax Device NOT DIAL out when connected to
FaxabilitySwitch2,thenyoushouldsetDipSwitch2totheONposition.
When Dip Switch 2 is set to the ON position, Faxability Switch 2 will
leave your Fax Device connected to your telephone line when your line
isnotinuse.It willthenremove itfromthe telephonelinewheneveryou
pickupatelephonetomakeanoutgoingcallorwheneveryoureceivean
incoming call.
If you require Dip Switch 2 to be set to the ON position, you MUST set
to your FAX DEVICE to answer on TWO or MORE RINGS. This will
ensurethatyourFaxDevicedoesnotinterferewithincomingtelephone
calls. Providing you do so, this setting will not interfere with your Line
Sharingrequirements.

TELEPHONE WILL NOT DIAL
FaxabilitySwitch2initsdefaultconfiguration,isprogrammedtoremove
anyTELEPHONESconnecteddirecttothePHONEDEVICEPORTfrom
thetelephonelineandonlyconnectyourTELEPHONEStothetelephone
line when you pick up the receiver to initiate or answer a call.
Bydoing so, Faxability Switch 2willstopthesetelephones from ringing
whenever you have an incoming Fax call..
Asmall number ofTelephones haverecently introduced a new‘Line In
Use’facility which isdesignedtoprevent Barge-In byyourPhonewhen
atelephonecallistakingplace.ThiswouldnormallypreventyourPhone
from Dialing Out when connected to a telephone line switch, such as
Faxability Switch 2.
FaxabilitySwitch2incorporatesaNEWHighVoltageLineLevel facility
which should allow it to work with these new telephones.
However, should your Telephone NOT DIAL out when connected to
FaxabilitySwitch2,thenyoushouldsetDipSwitch4totheONposition.
When Dip Switch 4 is set to the ON position, Faxability Switch 2 will
leaveyourTelephonesconnectedtoyourtelephonelinewhenyourline
isnotinuse.Itwillonlyremoveitfromthetelephonelinewheneveryour
Fax Machine is in use.
The only difference you will experience with this switch change is that
thetelephonesconnecteddirect to the PHONE DEVICE PORT will ring
ONCE before stopping, when Fax calls are received.
If SW4 is set to ON - Telephone REQUIRES connection to the telephone line in
order to dial out.
If SW4 is set to OFF - NormalSetting.Telephone DOES NOTREQUIRE connection
to the line to dial out.

FAX WILL NOT ANSWER RING
A small number of Fax Devices may not ANSWER the Ring that is
generated by Faxability Switch 2.
Shouldthishappen,youwillnoticethatFaxabilitySwitch2willANSWER
an Incoming Fax call after 1 ring, but your Fax Device will not connect
to the Fax call.
Youcan overcome thisproblembysetting Dip Switches1,2and 4 all to
the ON position.
Withthisspecialsetting,FaxabilitySwitch2afterdetectinganincoming
Fax call will NOT ANSWER and then RING the Fax, but instead will
simply DIVERT the INCOMING Faxability RING to your Fax Device so
that it can answer the incoming Telephone Exchange Ring :
Ifyour FaxDevicewill NOTANSWER RINGfrom DuetSwitch:
Set Dip Switch 1 to ON
Set Dip Switch 2 to ON
Set Dip Switch 4 to ON
The position of Dip Switch 3 does not matter.
It can be set to ON or OFF depending on your requirements
(see page 8 for details on Dip Switch 3)

DIP SWITCH SETTINGS
Four Micro Dip Switches are located on the underside of the Line Sharer.
The position of each switch is important as they individually vary the
operation of this unit.
Please ensure that you understand the significance of each switch, as
described elsewhere in this User Guide, before altering their position.
If SW1 is set to ON - The 6 second hang-up timer is
ENABLED
If SW1 is set to OFF - The 6 second hang-up timer is NOT
REQUIRED
If SW2 is set to ON - Fax REQUIRES connection to the
telephone line to dial
If SW2 is set to OFF - Fax DOES NOT REQUIRE
connection to the line to dial
If SW3 is set to ON - Divert call to Fax Device after 8 rings
If SW3 is set to OFF - Do Not Divert call to Fax Device
If SW4 is set to ON - CallerID device IS connected to
Primary Number port
If SW4 is set to OFF - CallerID device IS NOT connected to
Primary Number port

OPERATION WITH ADSL
Faxability Switch 2 will not interfere with yourADSL service and your
ADSL service will not affect your Faxability Switch 2 device.
However, you MUST fit an ADSL FILTER between the telephone wall
socket and the Telephone Line input of Faxability Switch 1 , so that
your Fax Device can operate on a line withADSL.
Do not fit the filter in any other position. Failure to do so, CAN cause
ADSL or Fax Reception problems.

WARRANTY
This device is guaranteed against defects from workmanship for a period
of two years (24 months) from the date of purchase. In the event of
failure, you should return the product, along with proof of purchase date,
and a written statement about the nature of the problem.
This Warranty shall not apply to any unit which has been subject to
alteration, modification, abuse, negligence, accident, external voltage/
lightning surge or used in any manner contrary to these instructions.
The obligation is solely to repair or replace the product. The warrantor
is not liable for any incidental or consequential damages due to such
defects.
The user is responsible for freight costs to the repair point. The warrantor
will be responsible for freight costs in returning this unit back to the
user.
Damage caused to this device or attached equipment, by lightning strikes
or over voltage surge is not covered under this warranty.
