Important Safeguards
To operate your television at peak performance, please read this Instruction Manual
carefully and retain it for future reference.
• Place this unit on a flat, level surface and in a dry area free from dust and moisture.
•Adequate ventilation must be provided to prevent heat building up inside the unit.
Do not build this set into a bookcase or other enclosure in which it would be poorly
ventilated.
• Do not place liquids including flower vases and vessels filled with chemicals or
water, etc. on top of the unit. Keep the inside of the unit free from foreign objects
such as hairpin. If hazardous objects fall inside of the unit, unplug it immediately and
call a qualified technician for removal.
• Do not remove the back cover of the TV set.Accidental contact with high voltage
components could result in electric shock.
• Never place the set near heat sources (e.g. radiator)
• When you don't use the set for an extended period during vacation or other occa-
sions, always make sure of switching off the MAIN POWER(ON/OFF) SWITCH of
the TV set.
• You should disconnect your set from the mains and the aerial system during thun-
derstorms.
• Unplug the television from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid clean-
ers of aerosol cleaners. Use only a lightly dampened soft cloth.
• Do not place this television equipment on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The tele-
vision equipment may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious
damage to the equipment. Use only with a cart or stand recommended by the man-
ufacturer, or sold with the television equipment.Wall or shelf mounting should follow
the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a mounting kit approved by the
manufacturer.
• When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used
replacement parts specified by the manufacturer that have the same characteristics
as the original parts. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or
other hazards.
• Upon completion of any service or repairs to the set, ask the service (as specified
by the manufacturer) to determine that the set is in safe operating condition.
• If anything goes wrong, don’t try and fix it yourself, get a qualified service agent to
look at it.

INSTALLATION
AFTER MOVING THE SET
If the used set is moved or placed in a different direction, the MAIN
ON/OFF button must be switched off for at least 15 minutes in order
to take out a colour strain on the screen.
INSERTING BATTERIES INTO THE REMOTE CONTROL UNIT
Press down the battery compartment grip and slide the cover. Insert
the batteries supplied(two 1.5V, type AA).
Make sure that the polarity matches with the (+) and (-) marks inside
the battery compartment.
Used batteries should be disposed of properly.
AERIAL CONNECTION
For better picture and sound quality, an effective aerial installation is most
important.
If you are located in a relatively strong signal area, you will be able to use
the indoor aerial.
When using an outdoor aerial, it is usually connected to the set by means
of 75 ohm coaxial cable.

MAINS CONNECTION
Plug the mains cable into the power socket with 240V ~, 50Hz.
SWITCHING THE SET ON AND OFF
Switching On
Switch the set on with the MAIN ON/OFF button on the front of the
television. The STAND-BY INDICATOR will turn on.
And then, press : - CH UP or DOWN buttons on the front of the set -
or ON/OFF button or the CH UP/DOWN buttons or one of the NUM-
BER buttons 0..9 on the remote control unit.
The STAND-BY INDICATOR will turn off and a picture will appear on
the screen.
Switching Off
Press ON/OFF button on the remote control unit to return the set to its
stand-by mode.
The STAND-BY INDICATOR will illuminate.
If you don't use the set for extended period of time, turn it off with the
MAIN ON/OFF button on the front of the receiver.

TUNING THE TV CHANNELS
MENU
Press the MENU button to call up the MENU.
The MENU consists of 4 sub-menus:
PICTURE, TIMER, LANGUAGE, INSTALL menu.
INSTALL menu disappeared on theAV mode.
LANGUAGE SELECTION [figure 1]
Select the LANGUAGE menu at the MAIN MENU by placing the
cursor on the LANGUAGE with UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W) and
press the RIGHT button(VOLB).
You can choose the language you require with the UP/DOWN but-
tons.
Press the MENU button to return to the MEIN MENU.
AUTOMATIC CHANNEL MEMORY [figure 2,3]
Select the INSTALL menu at the MEIN MENU.
Place the cursor at Auto setup menu.
Press the RIGHT button(VOLB). The channel will search from the
VHF-L, then VHF-H and UHF.
Please wait until the EDIT menu appears.
If you want to cancel automatic channel memory, press the MENU
button.

EDIT
The EDIT menu shows you the programme position assignment.
You can change this programme position assignment according to
your personal preferences.
SKIPPING CHANNELS [figure 4]
You can select SKIP “YES” or “NO” with the SKIP button(Red Key).
Position the cursor to a Programme to skip “YES” or “NO” with the
UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W).
A programme marked with SKIP “YES” is skipped when changing
channel using the Programme UP/DOWN.(on normal operation)
DELETE PROGRAMME POSITION DATA
Position the cursor on programme to delete with the UP/DOWN but-
tons(CHV/W).
Press the DELETE button(Yellow Key). While this is being carried
out “Please wait!” appears and the “deleted” programme is moved to
programme No. 99 and the programmes below the deleted pro-
gramme No. will be shifted to the lower programme No one by one.
The programme moved to No. 99 will be set as SKIP “YES”.
CHANGING THE ORDER OF THE CHANNELS
The cursor to a Programme to move and press the MOVE button.
The cursor to programme No. to move and press the MOVE button.
A programme will be moved.
ENTER A STATION NAME
Locate a cursor to below Name with LEFT/RIGHT buttons
(VOLC/B).
Using the UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W), select the desired letter,
number or blank. Press the right button to select the next position.
Press the MENU button to complete this procedure.

Press the NUMBER buttons 0..9 or UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W) to
select the programme number you want.
The screen will change according to the selected programme number.
You can also call up Manual tune at the Install menu.
SEARCHING A CHANNEL (figure 5)
Move the cursor to Manual tune with the UP/DOWN buttons(CH V/W )
and then press the LEFT/RIGHT buttons(VOL
C/B ).
The tuning screen will appear and the cursor will move from left to right
or from right to left. The channel, will be searched from the band area
of the current programme. If you continuously press the LEFT or
RIGHT button the over 5 seconds, the current band area is shifted to
the next band area.(VHF-L VHF-H UHF)
After searching a station, the tuning screen will disappear.
To stop searching, press the MENU button.
FINE TUNING (figure 6)
If you are unable to get a good picture or sound because of a poor
broadcasting signal, it is possible to adjust the fine tuning.
Move the cursor to Fine tune and press the LEFT/RIGHT buttons
(VOLC/B) to activate fine tuning.
It operates only when the LEFT/RIGHT buttons(VOLC/B) are being
pressed. The changes are memorized automatically.
SELECT SOUND SYSTEM
If you hear strange sound or noise sound, then call up the Edit menu
at the Install menu.
Move the a cursor to below SOUND the LEFT/RIGHT buttons
(VOLC/B).
Select the sound system BG, DK, I with the UP/DOWN buttons(CH V/W ),
then sound will be changed automatically .

VOLUME CONTROL
Adjust the volume with the VOLUME DOWN/UP buttons on the front
of the set, or with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons(VOLC/B) on the remote
control unit.
MUTE
Pressing the MUTE( ) button once turns the sound off.
At the same time, the mute sign( ) is displayed on the screen.
The sound returns if the button is pressed once more or the volume is
adjusted with the VOLUME DOWN/UP buttons, or with the
LEFT/RIGHT buttons(VOLC/B).
NORMAL PICTURE SELECTION (figure 7)
When you press the PICTURE button repeatedly you can call up three
picture settings:
for NORMAL 1 (hard picture), NORMAL 2 (soft picture), FAVOURITE
(adjustable picture).
PICTURE CONTROL (figure 8)
Press the MENU button to call up the MENU.
Press the RIGHT button to call up the PICTURE MENU.
You can select each function with the UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W).
Use the LEFT/RIGHT buttons(VOLC/B) to adjust each function:
Brightness - Contrast - Colour - Sharpness - Tint(NTSC only) -
BlueBack.
*Yon can set BlueBack function Yes/No by using the LEFT/RIGHT
buttons(VOLC/B) or CHV/W.
If you set BLUEBACK function “Yes”, you can see in blue screen
when the TV receives no signal.
InAV mode, the screen is always displayed with the bluescreen when
there is no signal.
The last set value is automatically stored in FAVOURITE mode.
Note that if you set the Brightness values too low, the On-screen-dis-
play becomes dark.
DAILY USE
SELECTING A PROGRAMME NUMBER
The set has a total of 100 programme numbers, 00..99.
The NUMBER buttons 0..9 are used for direct programme selection.
In order to select two-digit programmes, press the second numbered
button within two seconds.
Switch through the programme number one by one with the
UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W).

By pressing the SLEEP button repeatedly, you can select one of the
following settings:
00:00 00:20 00:40 01:00 01:20 01:40 02:00
The set will be turned off after the time you selected.
Automatic Switch-Off in No broadcast Signal
If a broadcasting signal is not present for about 30 minutes, the set will
automatically turned off.
In AV mode, however, this function does not operate.
RECALL
The RECALL button is used to display the current status: programme
number, station name, clock and system(right above).
This display appear for about 5 seconds unless a button is pressed.
CHILD LOCK
You can prevent the use of the TV set without the remote control unit.
Press the RED(skip), GREEN(move),YELLOW(delete), and POWER
button in sequence on the remote control unit within 5 seconds. Then
The TV set will be child-locked.
The child-lock function is indicated by a blinking STAND-BY INDICA-
TOR.
The set can only be switched back by using the remote control unit.
Note that Child-Lock function is prior to Wake up function.
In the MAIN MENU, Select TIMER menu.
SETTING THE CLOCK
Press the RIGHT button on the CLOCK line.
Set the hours and minutes with the UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W).
The clock will start.
Note that if you turn the TV off the with MAIN ON/OFF button or press
the CYAN(mode) button, the clock setting is lost and must be reset if
necessary.
SETTING THE WAKE UP TIME (figure 9)
Set Wake up time in the same way as SETTING THE CLOCK above.
Set Timer “YES” or “NO” with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons(VOLC/B).
When Timer is “YES”, the function is enabled.
When Wake up time is operated, the set will switch on to this pro-
gramme number at the set time.

LOCAL CONTROL KEY MODE
You can call up the MENU without the remote control unit.
You can enter the MENU directly by pressing the MENU button.
If you press the MENU button over 1 sec, the MENU will be dis-
played on the screen. : If you press the MENU button less than 1
sec, the screen will convert to AV mode.
Move the cursor to the SUB MENU you want by using the PR
UP/DOWN buttons and press the VOL Bbutton, then the SUB
MENU will be displayed on the screen. When the SUB MENU is
displayed on the screen you can set it by using the PR UP/DOWN
or the VOL UP/DOWN buttons. Press the MENU button to return
to the previous Menu.
At the EDIT mode, you can’t use the MOVE function and DELETE
function.
NOTE
The back external terminal and the front
external terminal are common. If you use
one of them, disconnect the other with the
external equipment.
OSD HALF-TONE FUNCTION
If you press the RECALL key with the MENU displayed in the screen,
the OSD except text will be Half-Toned. If you want to return to the nor-
mal OSD, press the RECALL key again.
MODE
Pressing the MODE button on the remote control unit, the current
atcive system of the set will be displayed on the screen.
Whenever you press the MODE button, the system will be changed
as
follows :
AUTO PAL SECAM *N4.43 *N3.58
(NTSC 4.43) (NTSC 3.58)
From time to time an, abnormal system(NTSC 4.43 or PAL 60Hz) can
not be operated in Auto mode.
*In case of Models for Australia, these functions are not available.
But, OSD is displayed.

EARPHONE JACK
Insert the earphone plug (3.5mm o) into the earphone socket. The
sound from the speaker will be cut off.
FRONT/BACK AV JACK
Connect theAV(AUDIO/VIDEO) JACK with an appreciate cable to the
corresponding socket of the external equipment.
Press the TV/VIDEO button on the remote control unit or on the front
of the set. TheAV will be displayed on the screen with the current pro-
gramme number.
In AV mode, you can change the TV programme number with the
UP/DOWN button(CHV/W) or the NUMBER buttons 0..9.
When you want to return to TV mode, press the AV button one more
time and TV mode will returned.
Note that FRONTAV JACK and BACK AV JACK are common . If you
use one of them disconnect the other from the external equipment.

SELECTING PAGES
The NUMBER buttons 0..9 are used to enter a page number.
The selected page number appears at the top of the screen and the
page appears after a short time.
The UP/DOWN buttons(CHV/W) increase or decrease the current
page number by 1.
INDEX PAGE
You can switch directly to the programme preview (with TOP text) or
the overview page of the station you are currently viewing by pressing
the INDEX ( ) button.
TELETEXT
SWITCHING TELETEXT ON/OFF
Press the TELETEXT button ( ). The index page viewed last will
appear.
Press the TELETEXT button to return to the TV mode.
Note that TELETEXT on this TV set is operated to Level 1.5.
COLOUR BUTTONS IN TOP/FLOF TELETEXT
A red, green, yellow and cyan fields are shown at the bottom of the
screen.
If TOPor FLOF teletext (FASTEXT) is transmitted by the station, press
the corresponding colour button on the remote control unit, you can
select the desired page easily.
CONNECTING EXTERNAL EQUIPMENT

PAGE HOLD
Several sub pages can be combined under a page number and are
scrolled at an interval determined by the television station.
The presence of sub pages is indicated by, for example, 3/6 beneath
the time, which means that you are looking at the 3rd page of a total
of 6 pages.
If you want to look at a subpage for a longer period of time, press the
HOLD ( ) button.
The content of the subpage shown are kept on the screen and no
longer updated or switched to other subpages.
Pressing the HOLD button again, the current subpage appears.
CALLING UP SUBPAGE DIRECTLY
Pressing the SUBPAGE ( ) button, "Page No./----" appears at the
bottom of the screen.
Enter the subpage number that you want to call up with the NUMBER
buttons 0..9, for example, the 2nd page, sequence 0002.The desired
subpage is sought and displayed. To exit, press the SUBPAGE ( )
button again.
WATCHING TELEVISION DURING TELETEXT MODE
Some pages are continually updated, for example, stock market
reports, sports announcements, and the latest news.
If you want to watch television and stay informed at the same time,
press CANCEL ( ) button.
The regular programme is still visible and the teletext programme
number appears at the top of the screen.
Pressing the CANCEL button again, the teletext page appears with
the updated information.
REVEAL ANSWER
This function can be used on certain pages to reveal the solution of
riddles.
Press the REVEAL( ) button to reveal a hidden answer and press
again to hide it.
DOUBLING CHARACTER SIZE
Repeatedly pressing the SIZE( ) button doubles the character size
in the following order: Upper half of the page -> Lower half of the page
-> Return to normal size.
VOLUME, BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST CONTROL
Repeatedly pressing the MENU button in TELETEXT mode, VOL-
UME, BRIGHTNESS or CONTRAST appears at the bottom of the
screen in the following order :
VOLUME BRIGHTNESS CONTRAST
You can control it with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons(VOLC/B).
TEXT MIX
Pressing the MIX button( ) in teletext mode, you can see an aerial
channel also in the back ground. If you press the MENU button in MIX
mode, volume control OSD is displayed and you can control it with
the LEFT/RIGHT buttons, but no support for brightness and contrast
control.
NOTE : In the RF mode that includes a teletext signal, you can see
the teletext TIME by pressing the RED(delete) button.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Sometimes some performance problems can easily be solved by checking seemingly
apparent but often overlooked possibilities. Before asking for service, to checking these
items could save your time and money.
SYMPTOM CHECK
No picture or sound. • Check the TV set is plugged in.
• Check the volume, Brightness and Contrast controls
are set to the minimum positions.
Picture is OK, but No Sound • Check the Volume control is set to the mini
mum position.
Sound is OK, but No Picture • Check the Brightness and Contrast controls
are set to the minimum position.
No Colour • Check the Colour control is set to the minimum
position.
Excessive noise in picture • Check theAntenna Cable is broken or discon
nected or damaged.
Diagonal stripes appear on • It may be affected by interfering signal.
picture (ex. from nearby amateur radio transmitter or
another TV set.)
• The interference can be reduced to some extent by
adjusting the direction or height of the antenna.
(If the twin lead antenna cable is used, replace it with
a coaxial cable.)
Picture has "Snow" • Check theAntenna cable is broken or disconnected
or damaged.
• Small dot on the screen caused by a weak aerial
signal.
Ghost images appear. • Check theAntenna direction has changed after
storm or strong wind etc..
• Ghost images are caused by a signal reflected from
a hill or large building etc..
• The direction or height of the antenna should be
chosen well in order to minimize ghost images.
