Explanation ofTemperatureControlTerms
Accuracy
Wedonotprovide,claimorassureanyformofaccuracy.Accuracyis definedas "theability ofa
measurementtomatchtheactualvalueof thequantity beingmeasured".Foraccuracywerecom-
mendusingacalibratedreferenceprobeattheactualsetpointtemperatureandwherenecessary,
adjustthesetpointaccordingly.
Sensitivity
Foran explanationofsensitivity consideraunstirreddigitalwaterbath,thePIDtemperature
controlsystemmeasuresanddisplaystheactualtemperatureofthewaterandthencomparesit
withthe‘setpoint’temperature.It automaticallycalculatesandadjuststherequiredquantityof
heatintothebathto makethemeasuredtemperatureequalto thesettemperature.Aswithany
process thereis atimedelaybetweenmeasuringthetemperatureandtheheatenteringthewater,
whichcausesminorfluctuations in thetemperatureof thebath.
Heatis alsodistributedinan unstirredbathbyconvectionandconductionandthereareheatlosses
fromthesurfaceof theliquidwhichcan causetemperaturelosses.Theselossesandheatdistribu-
tionproducesmallfluctuationsin temperatureacross thewaterin thebath.
Thesesmall temperaturefluctuationsatanyonepointaredefinedas “sensitivity”andvary
betweenan upperandlowerlimit,howeveroccasionallyalargervariationcan beobserved.
Sensitivity as statedin DIN58966 isthetemperaturedifferencebetweentheupperandlower
temperaturelevelover100 cyclesafterremovingthelargest25%of readings.
Wedeterminesensitivity byrecordingtheactualupperandlowertemperaturesof thebathusing
temperatureloggersandis statedasplusorminus onehalfof themeasuredvalue.
Uniformity
Uniformity iscalculatedbymeasuringthetemperatureinopposingendsofthewaterbathandis
thedifferencebetweenthemean temperaturesatthesetwopointsandstatedas plus orminus
halfthisvalue.

General
Important-please followthese instructionstoavoidpossibledamage to

Alwaysdisconnect theproductfromtheelectrical supply before

CleaningExternal PaintedSurfaces featuring“Anti-bacterial PaintFinish”
Thewaterbathshould becleanedatregularintervalswipingexternalsurfaceswithaclothorsponge
soakedin warmsoapywaterwithamild detergent.All surfacesshould becleanedusingasoft clothor
sponge.
Donotunderanycircumstances use strongsolventsorsolutionscontaini
ngChlorinatedHydocarbons,Esters,Ketonesorabrasivecleanersorpolish
on thepaintfinishotherwise itdamages thebuiltinanti-bacterial
properties.
AllpaintedsurfacesonCliftonrangeproductsfeaturesan “Anti-bacterial
paintfinish”identifiedwiththis authenticatinglogoontheunit.
This“Anti-bacterialpaint finish” inhibitsthegrowthofbacteria.It has been
testedbyindependentspecialisttesthousessuchas theLawLaboratories(in
theUK)usinginternationallyrecognizedtestmethodsandproventobe
effectiveversus awiderangeofbacteriaspeciesincludingEscherichia coli
andStaphylococcusaureus (MRSA).
Werecognisehygieniccoatingsarepartofacontrolledapproachto acleaner
workingenvironment.Within itsformulationanactiveingredientwithprovenanti-bacterialproperties
is boundintothepaintfinish.Theefficacyof thepaintfinishappliedtotheCliftonrangeis maintained
overitslifetime,as theanti-bacterialagentis integralwithinthepaint.
Inalaboratoryenvironmentitmakesthisonelesssourceofcontamination,contributingto
essentialclean workingpractices.Abenefitof suchapaintfinish can leadto areductionin
cleaningschedulesbecausesurfacesaremoreprotectedandimprovesprotectionbetween
cleaning.Unlikedetergents“Anti-bacterialpaintfinish”doesnotofferaninstantaneousaction,
butis intendedforlong-termgeneralprotectionagainstbacterialgrowth.
Moistureonthepaintedsurfaceis necessaryforthebacteriumto absorbtheagentandbeaffected
byit.Thecoatingis thereforelessactiveinverydryconditions,butdependentuponrelative
humidity,moisturein theatmospheremaintainsactivity.Areaswheremoistureistrappedarealso
areas thatnormallyaredifficultto cleanandwherebacteriaproliferatebuttheseareas aremost
activefortheanti-bacterialcoatingimprovingthedefenceagainstbacterialgrowth.
CleaningtheStainless SteelTank
Thestainless steelcrevicefree tankwithsmoothcornersshould provideyearsof valuableserviceand
is resistantto chloridecontainingsolutions itis howeverimportantto avoidhighconcentrations of
halogens -especiallychloride.Withsuchahighquality andresistanttankit may showsymptomsof
thesehalogens as rust,whicharedepositsfromexternalsourcesin thewatersupply.
Werecommendalwaysempty thebathof liquidafteruseandwipeouttheinternalfacesof thetank
withanon-abrasiveclothandallowtodry.Anydepositscan beremovedwithnitricacid(10%)ona
