Thisdevice supports WAP 2.0 protocols (HTTP and SSL)that run on TCP/IP
protocols. Some features of this device, such as multimedia messaging(MMS),
browsing, e-mail application, instant messaging, presence enhanced contacts,
remote synchronization, and content downloadingusing the browser or MMS,
requirenetwork support for these technologies.
■Sharedmemory
Thefollowing features in this device may share memory: Tones& Gr., contacts,
text messages, multimedia messages, and instant messages, e-mail, calendar, to-
donotes, JavaTM games and applications, and note application. Use of one or
moreof these features mayreduce the memory available forthe remaining
featuressharingmemory.Forexample,savingmanyJavaapplicationsmayuseall
ofthe available memory. Your device may display a messagethat thememory is
fullwhenyoutrytouse a sharedmemory feature. In thiscase,delete some of the
information or entries storedin the shared memoryfeatures before continuing.
Someof thefeatures, suchas textmessages, mayhave a certainamountof
memoryspecially allotted to them in addition tothe memoryshared withother
features.
■Enhancements
A few practical rules about accessories and enhancements
• Keep all accessories and enhancements out of the reach of small children.
• Whenyoudisconnectthe powercordofanyaccessoryorenhancement,grasp
andpull theplug, not the cord.
• Checkregularly that enhancements installed in avehicle are mounted and

■Access codes
Security code
The security code (5 to 10 digits) helps to protect yourphone against
unauthorizeduse.Thepreset code is12345.To change thecode, andto set the
phone to requestthecode, see Securityp. 75.
PIN codes
The personal identification number (PIN) code and theuniversal personal
identification number (UPIN) code (4 to 8digits)help to protect your SmartChip
cardagainst unauthorizeduse. SeeSecurity p. 75.
The PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits) may be suppliedwiththe SmartChip card and is
required for some functions.
The module PIN is required to access the informationin the security module. See
Securitymodulep. 49.
The signing PINisrequired forthedigital signature.SeeDigital signaturep. 50.
PUK codes
The personal unblocking key (PUK) code and the universal personal unblocking
key(UPUK) code (8 digits) is required tochange a blocked PIN code and UPIN
code,respectively. The PUK2 code (8 digits) is required tochange a blocked PIN2
code. If the codesare not supplied with theSmartChip card, contact yourlocal
serviceprovider for the codes.
Restriction password
The restriction password (4 digits) is required when usingthe Callrestriction
service.See Securityp. 75.
■Configuration settings service
To use some of the network services, suchas mobile Internet services, MMS,
NokiaXpress audiomessaging, or remote Internet server synchronization, your
phone needs the correct configuration settings. For more information on

availability,contact yournetwork operator, serviceprovider, nearestauthorized
Nokiadealer, or visit thesupport area on the NokiaWeb site, www.nokia.com/
support.
When you have received the settings asaconfiguration message, and the
settingsare notautomaticallysaved andactivated,Configurationsettings
received isdisplayed.
To save the settings, select Show >Save.If required, enter the PIN code supplied
bythe serviceprovider.
To discard the received settings, select Exit orShow >Discard.
■Download content
You may be able to download new content (for example, themes)to the phone
(network service).

Alwaysswitch the device offand disconnect the charger before removing the
battery.

For availability and information on using SmartChipcardservices, contactyour
SmartChip card vendor. This may be the serviceprovider, network operator, or
othervendor.
This deviceis intended for use withBL-5C battery. Always use originalNokia
batteries. See Nokia battery authentication p. 78.
The SmartChip cardand its contacts can easily be damaged by scratches or
bending, so be careful when handling, inserting,or removing the card.
To remove the back cover of the
phone, press (1) and slide the cover
asshown (2).

■Insert a microSD card
Keep all microSD memory cards out of the reach of small children.
AmicroSD cardcan beloaded with ringingtones, themes, tones,
imagesand videos. If you delete, reload, orreplace this card, these
functionsand featuresmay not function properly.
UseonlycompatiblemicroSDcardswiththisdevice.Othermemorycards,suchas
ReducedSize MultiMedia cards, do not fit in the microSD cardslot andare not
compatiblewiththisdevice.Usingan incompatible memory card may damage
thememorycard aswell as the device, and data storedon theincompatible card
maybe corrupted.
Useonly microSD cardsapproved by Nokia foruse with thisdevice.Nokia utilizes
theapproved industrystandards formemory cards butnot allother brands may
functioncorrectly or be fully compatible with this device.

Youcan usethe microSD memory cardto store your multimedia files such as
videoclips, musictracks, and soundfiles, images,and messaging data, andto
backup information from phone memory.
Some of the folders in Tones &Gr. withcontentthat the phone use,for example,
Themes,may be storedon amemory card.
Toinsert and remove themicroSD memorycard see Insert amicroSDcard p. 12.
Format the memory card
Whenamemory card is formatted,all data on the card is permanently lost. Some
memory cards are supplied preformatted andothers require formatting. Consult
yourretailer to find out if you must format the memory card before you can use
it.
To format a memory card,select Menu > Tones&Gr. orGames& apps, the
memory card folder , Options >Formatmemorycard >Yes.
Whenformatting is complete, enter aname for the memory card.
Lock the memory card
Toset apassword to lock your memory card to help prevent unauthorizeduse,
select Options > Setpassword. The passwordcan be up to eight characters long.
Thepassword is stored in your phoneand you do nothave to enter it again while
youare using the memory card on thesame phone. If youwant to use the
memorycard on another phone,you are asked forthe password. To delete the
password, select Options >Deletepassword.
Check memory consumption
Tocheck the memory consumption of different datagroups and the available
memory for installing new applications or softwareon your memory card, select
Options >Details.
■Charge the battery
Checkthemodelnumberof anychargerbeforeusewith this device. This device is
intendedfor usewhen supplied withpower froman AC-3, AC-4,or AC-5 charger.
Warning: Use only batteries,chargers, and enhancementsapproved by
Nokiafor use with thisparticular model. The use of anyother types may
invalidateany approval or warranty, and may be dangerous.
Foravailability of approved enhancements, please checkwith your dealer. When
youdisconnect the power cord of any enhancement,grasp and pull theplug, not
the cord.

■Open and close the phone
Open and close the phone manually.When you openthe fold of thephone, it
opens up to approximately 165 degrees. Do not try to force the fold open more.
Depending on the selected theme, atone soundswhen thefold is openedor
closed.
■Switch the phone on and off
Warning:Do notswitch the phone on when
wireless phone use is prohibited or whenit
maycause interference or danger.
Toswitch thephone on or off,press and hold the
power key. See Keys and parts p. 16.
Ifthe phone asks for a PIN ora UPIN code, enter the
code(displayed as ****), and select OK.
Set the time, time zone, and date
Enterthe local time,select thetime zoneof your
location in termsof the time difference with respectto Greenwich Mean Time
(GMT), and enterthedate. See Settime/datep. 67.

Plug and play service
Whenyouswitchonyour phoneforthe firsttime,andthephoneisinthestandby
mode,you areasked toget theconfiguration settings from your service provider
(network service). Confirm or decline thequery. SeeConfiguration settings
servicep. 8.
■Antenna
Yourdevicehas aninternalantennalocatedatthebottomof
thephone.
Note:Aswith any other radiotransmittingdevice,
do not touch the antenna unnecessarily when the
device is switched on.Contactwith the antenna
affectscall quality andmay cause the device to
operate at ahigher powerlevel than otherwise
needed.Avoidingcontactwiththeantennaarea
whenoperating thedevice optimizes the antenna
performance and the battery life.

Active standby
In the active standby mode there is alistof selected phone features and
informationon the screen that you can directly access inthe standby mode. To
switch on or off the mode, select Menu >Settings >Maindisplay > Active
standby > Activestandbymode > On or Off.
In the active standby mode, scroll up or down to navigate thelist. Left and right
arrowsat thebeginning and end of a line indicate that further informationis

■Flight mode
Youcan deactivateall radiofrequency functions and still have access to offline
games, calendar,and phone numbers. Use theflight mode in radio sensitive

isshown.
Select Menu >Settings >Setprofile >Flight > Activate or Customize.
Todeactivate the flight mode, select any otherprofile.
Intheflightmodeyoucanmake anemergencycall.Entertheemergencynumber,
press the call key, andselect Yes whenasked Exit flight profile? Thephone
attemptsto make an emergency call.
Whenthe emergency call ends, the phone automaticallychanges to the normal
profilemode.
■Keypad lock (keyguard)
Select Menu or Unlock, and press * within1.5
seconds to lock or unlock the keypad.
Ifthe security keyguard is activated, enter the
securitycode ifrequested.
Toansweracall whenthekeyguardison,press
thecall keyor openthe phone.When youend
orreject the call, the keypad automatically
locks.

■Functions without a SmartChip card
Severalfunctions of your phone may beused without installing aSmartChipcard
(forexample, the data transfer with acompatible PC or anothercompatible
device). Without a SmartChip card, some functions appeardimmed in the menus
andcannot be used.
Foran emergency call,some networks mayrequire that a valid SmartChip card is
properlyinserted in the device.
3. Call functions
■Make a voice call
1. Enterthe phone number, including the area code.
Forinternational calls, press*twice for the international prefix (the +
characterreplacestheinternationalaccess code), enter the countrycode,the
area code without the leading 0, ifnecessary, and the phonenumber.
2. Tocall thenumber, press the callkey.
Toincrease the volume in a call,press thevolume up keyand to decrease
press the volume down key.
3. Toend the call or to cancel the call attempt, press the end key, orclose the
phone.
To search for a name orphone number that youhave saved in Addressbook,see
Finda contact p. 62. Pressthecall key tocallthenumber.
Toaccess the list of dialed numbers, pressthe call key oncein the standby mode.
Tocall the number, select a number or name, and press thecall key.
Speed dialing
Assign a phone number to one of the speed-dialing keys, 2to 9. See Speeddial
list p. 64. Callthenumber in eitherofthe following ways:
• Press a speed-dialing key, then the call key.
•IfSpeeddialing is setto On, press and hold a speed-dialing keyuntil thecall
begins. See Speeddialing in Callsettingsp. 72.
