About the M2016S Secure Set

About the M2016S Secure Set
This guide introduces your new M2016S Secure Set (Figure 1). It
describes the controls and features that are available to you.

The M2016S Secure Set is a Telephone Security Group (TSG)-type,
accepted Class 2 set. The M2016S Secure Set is designed to provide
on-hook or idle state security, preventing it from being used as a passive
listening device when the handset is in the on-hook position. The M2016S
uses relay circuitry that physically disconnects the handset from the
telephone circuit when the switchhook is depressed.
In addition to its message waiting indicator function, the Message Waiting
Indicator is used to indicate the security state of the M2016S Secure Set.
The red triangle lights steadily when the set is not secure – typically when
the handset is off-hook, when the set is ringing, or anytime the handset/
piezo relays are connected. The red triangle blinks when a message is
waiting.

About the M2016S Secure Set

Your M2016S Secure Set provides easy access to a wide range of
business features. Your system administrator assigns features to your
feature keys, and provides you with passwords and other codes as
required.
One of the codes provided by the system administrator is the Special
Prefix (SPRE) code which you need to use some features. For other
features, the SPRE code is optional.
The M2016S Secure Set:
• does not support any accessories, options, or add-on modules
• does not provide handsfree functionality

On your desk
Your M2016S Secure Set can be placed on your desk so that it is tilted
upwards making it easier to see the display (Figure 2).

On the wall
The wall mount lets you attach your set on the wall by rotating the base
(Figure 3).

and incoming call information.
Message Waiting
Indicator
The Message Waiting Indicator flashes to
indicate a message is waiting. It lights
steadily to indicate the set is off-hook or
not secure.

LCD Indicator A steady ºmeans the feature or line is
active. A flashing ºmeans the line is on
hold or the feature is being programmed.
Release By pressing ®, you can disconnect an
active call. You can also hang up the
handset.
Hold
By pressing ˙, you can put an
active call on hold. Return to the caller by
pressing the extension key beside the
flashing º.
Volume control
Use ®to control the volume of
the handset and the speaker. Raise the
volume by pressing the right side of the
bar. Lower the volume by pressing the left
side of the bar.
Feature keys You access set features and set lines with
the feature keys. The keys are labeled for
your convenience.
Prime Directory
Number (DN) key
(Main Extension key)
By pressing the lower right-hand key (or
lifting the handset), you can make a call
on your primary line. The set may also
have other line keys.

Your set’s display
Idle screen format
The M2016S Secure Set can be equipped with a 2-line by 24-character
display module. The idle display, as shown below, gives the current date
and time.
When you go off hook, the time and date disappear and information about
your call is displayed.
Calling party information
When your set rings, information about the incoming call is displayed. The
telephone number and name of the person calling appears in the display
module if this information is available.
Adjustable features
An additional function of the display is using it to show information when
programming various functions. By pressing the Program key, you can
scroll through different adjustable features on your set. Use the Volume
Control bar to scroll.
You can select the following adjustable features:

Under each of the above adjustable features on your display, it reads
SELECT OR SCROLL <<< >>>.
For instance, if you are displaying 03 CALL TIMER ENABLE, you can select
this feature by pushing ‚‹, or you can push the right side of the
volume control bar once to scroll to 04 IDLE SCREEN FORMAT or push the left
side of the volume control bar once to get to 02 CONTRAST ADJUSTMENT.
Volume adjustment
To adjust the volume on your set:
P1. Press the Program key.
2. Press ‚then ‚.
3. Do one of the following:
• Press ⁄to adjust the ringing tone.
• Press ¤to adjust the buzzer tone.
•Press‹to adjust the speaker
volume.
•Press ›to adjust the volume of the
handset.
®4. Press the Volume Control bar on the
left to reduce the volume; press the
Volume Control bar on the right to
increase the volume.

Predial recall
To display the last number predialed:
To dial the predialed number, press the Program key then lift the handset
or press a DN key to place the call.
Contrast adjustment
You may need to adjust how light/dark the text is in your display
depending on the tilt of your display and the lighting in the environment
where the set is located. Follow these steps to make adjustments:
P1. Press the Program key.
2. Press ‚then ⁄.
P1. Press the Program key.
2. Press ‚then ¤.
®3. Use the Volume Control bar to increase
or decrease the contrast.

Enable the call timer
To enable the call timer:
Idle screen format
Follow these steps to determine how your idle screen will look:
P1. Press the Program key.
2. Press ‚then ‹.
®3. Press the Volume Control bar to toggle
between CALL TIMER ON and CALL TIMER
OFF.
P4. Press the Program key when the
desired status is visible.
P1. Press the Program key.
2. Press ‚then ›. IDLE FORMAT is
displayed along with your current
selection.
®3. Press the Volume Control bar to scroll
though the various formats until you find
the one that you like best.

Language selection
The information on your display can be displayed in one of several
languages. Follow these steps to change your display to a different
language:
Display Diagnostics
Select Display Diagnostics by following these steps:
P1. Press the Program key.
2. Press ‚then fi.
®3. Use the Volume Control bar to scroll to
the desired language.
P4. Press the Program key.
P1. Press the Program key.
2. Press ‚then ‡.
®3. Scroll through the various test screens
using the Volume Control bar.
P4. Press the Program key to set the
diagnostics mode.

Follow these steps to hear a tone each time you press a dialpad key:

between KEY CLICK ON and KEY CLICK
OFF.
