
Using a North 7904 Mouth Bit Respirator
WARNING - This respirator does not provide protection to the e es or exposed areas of the bod . If the
atmosphere contains airborne contaminants or matter which can irritate the e es or skin or can be absorbed b
the bod through penetration of the e es or skin, the use of specialized e e, hand or bod covering is required for
protection.
The North 7904 respirator is onl approved for use against ammonia contaminants. Carefull read the NIOSH
approval label on the back of the Mouth Bit Respirator user manual. Ensure the approved part numbers on the
respirator match the approved numbers on the approval label for the specific contaminant. If ou have an
doubts, prior to using the respirator, consult our supervisor or safet officer. This respirator is not approved for
use in a contaminated atmosphere Immediatel Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH).
PRE USE INSTRUCTIONS
Inspect the respirator thoroughl before use to insure that it is in satisfactor operating condition. Discard the
respirator if it is damaged or if parts are missing.
TO PUT ON THE MOUTHPIECE-TYPE RESPIRATOR
Remove respirator from the bag. Place neck strap over the head, around the neck, and wear the respirator on
chest; or attach respirator to belt b means of the belt clip to position respirator in a read -to-use condition (see
Figure 1 on reverse side).
CAUTION
When worn on the chest, or on the belt in a read -to-use position, the mouthpiece protector must be in place to
keep the mouthpiece free from contamination b dust, dirt, or airborne contaminants. If this respirator is damaged
while being worn in the read -to-use position, replace immediatel .
USE – The mouthpiece must be do ed, or o your perso ready to use, whe maki g rou ds or worki g
o the ammo ia system. See the Mai te a ce Procedures for more specific i formatio .

mouthpiece protrudi g lugs with the teeth.
2. Close mouth firmly arou d the mouthpiece to preve t e try of air co tami a ts i to the mouth
betwee the lips a d the mouthpiece.
3. Place ose clamp o ose across the rear of the ostrils such that the ostrils are pressed
completely closed to preve t asal breathi g (see Figure 2 o reverse side).
4. Immediately exit from the co tami ated area.
SERVICE LIFE
Replace the respirator immediatel after it has been used for an escape, or, the air-purif ing element is damaged
b moisture, cleaning solution or harmful materials.
TURNAROUND CHECKS
The respirator must be inspected dail b trained personnel to ensure that it will function properl . Examine each
part of the respirator for defects (such as a cracked or distorted respirator bod ; or a torn or distorted mouthpiece
section) and discard the respirator if defects are found. The mouthpiece ma be cleaned b wiping with a soft
cloth moistened in a solution of warm water and detergent or with a cleaner/sanitizer wipe pad. Care must be
taken to prevent the cleaning solution from penetrating the respirator bod and from coming in contact with the
air-purif ing element. Wetting the air-purif ing element will destro its abilit to adsorb hazardous vapor or gas
from the air.
STORAGE
When not being worn in the read -to-use condition, the respirator should be placed in a plastic bag and stored in
a cool, dr and non-contaminated atmosphere to insure that it is protected against dust, chemicals, moisture,
excessive heat and ph sical damage.
