WARNING:
。The EPA1205MT charger is designedto charge 12V lead-acid
batteries from15Ahto 120Ahand maintain batteries up to150Ah.
。Check battery manufacturer specificationsbefore usingthis charger.
。Explosive gases may escape from the battery during charging.
Provide ventilation to preventflamesand sparks.
。Do not exposecharger torain,snow or liquids.
。Battery acidis corrosive.Rinse immediately w ith water if acidcomes
into contact withskin or eyes.
。Do not chargea frozenordamagedbattery.
。Do not chargenon-rechargeablebatteries.
。Do not place the charger onthe battery w hilecharging.
。Be extracautious toreduceriskof droppinga metal tool onto
battery.It might sparkor short-circuit battery or other electricalpart
that may causeexplosion.
。When workingwithalead-acidbattery,removepersonalmetal items
suchas rings, bracelets,necklaces,watch…
。Do not smoke or allow asparkor flame whilecharging.
。In order toreduce riskof electric shock,unplug charger fromAC
outlet before doingany maintenance or cleaning.
。Not for use by children or by anyone whois unableto follow
instructions of this manual, unless they are supervisedby an adult
to ensuretheproper use of charger.

2. FEATURES
7-STAGE AUTOMATIC CHARGING
This is a fully automatic battery chargerwith7chargestages.
Automatic charging protects your battery frombeingovercharged.So
youcanleave the chargerconnectedtothebattery indefinitely.
7-stagechargingis a very comprehensiveandaccuratecharging
process thatgives your battery longerlifeandbetter performance
comparedto using traditional chargers.
7-stagechargers aresuitablefor most battery types including Calcium,
Gel andAGM batteries.Theymay also help restoredrainedand
sulphatedbatteries.
The 7 stages are:Desulphation; SoftStart; Bulk; Absorption;Battery
Test; Recondition and Float.
Desulphation
The Desulphation stagemay breakdownsulphation thatoccurs in
batteries that havebeenleft flatfor extendedperiods of time, returning
them backto full charge.sulphationoccurs whenlead-sulphate
hardens andclogs up the battery cells.
If the chargerdetermine your batteryisin goodconditionandnoneedfor
desulphation so itwillnot stay in thisstage andskip quickly,it worksonly
when battery discharge toomuch whichbelow10Vusually.
Soft Start
A preliminary chargeprocessesthatgently introduces power tothe
battery.This protects thebattery andincreases battery life.
This stage staysonlywhen the first desulphation stage stays also,inthisstage
the charger will raise the bat tery’s voltage to around 12V with a charging
current 2-3A,if skipquickly in the firststage thenit willskip quickly too of
thisstage.
Bulk (Constant Current)
Bulk mode charges thebattery at themaximum rate(constantcurrent
5A) putting alarge amount of power intothebattery ina shortamount

of time. This stagewillchargethebattery to approximately 80%,until
the voltagereaches 14.5volts
Bulk mode forthe chargingcycle.Thestartphasecontinues until the
battery's terminal voltagehas risen abovetheset limit(14.5V),at w hich
point the chargerswitchestobulkcharging.If the terminal voltagehas
not passedthevoltagelimit withinthetime limit(24 hours),thecharger
switchestofaultmode (lamp 3 solid) and discontinues thecharging.If
so,the battery is faulty or its capacity is toolarge.
Absorption (Constant Voltage)
The chargerateslow s downsothebattery canabsorbmorepower
and reach100%charge.The voltageremains at a constant14.5volts
for 12V charger whilethecurrentis gradually reduced until no more
power canbe addedw ithoutover-chargingthebattery.
BatteryTest
Anautomatic battery testis conductedimmediately after theabsorption
stage.The test monitors the voltage for90seconds todetermine if the
chargew as successful.
◆12V charger If thevoltage is below 13.2volts (fail), the charger will
initiate the Recondition stage.
◆12V charger If thevoltage is above13.2volts (pass), thecharger will
proceedtothe final stage:Float.
Recondition
The battery reconditioningfunctionis initiated automatically in thecase
that the battery fails thebattery test(stage5). Failing the battery test
indicates that the absorptionstagewas unabletofully chargethe
battery.The reconditionmode willthenbegin to introducea low
constantcurrentfor a periodof 4 hours. Then the charger w illgo into
floatchargingmode.
This reconditionstagecan recoverbatteries fromadeeply discharged
stateincreasingperformanceandbattery life.
RECOND- This mode is used to recover deepdischargedflooded
batteries whereyoucouldexpectastratifiedacid(highacidweightin
the bottom, low ontop). Check w ithbattery manufacturerwhenin
doubt. Use this mode withcare,becausethehigh voltagew illcause
some w ater loss. 16V is normally no problemforelectronics in12V
system. Consult your supplier w hen indoubt.Lifeof light bulbs w illbe
reducedathigher voltage.Try to disconnectlightfromthe battery
during this phase.Maximum effectandminimum riskfor electronics is
achievedby charginga disconnectedbattery.
Float

The Float stagemaintains the battery at100%chargew ithout
overchargingordamaging the battery.This means the chargercanbe
leftconnectedtothe battery indefinitely.
The battery chargerhas an7-stepfully automatic charging cycle. the
cycleis repeatedinfinitely. If the terminal voltage drops below alow er
limit of 10.5V,thechargerautomatically goes backto the beginning of
the chargingcurve.
3. SWITCHMODE TECHNOLOGY
Using the latest technology inbattery chargers, switch modechargers
convert100V-240VACpowerto12V DCpow er usingelectronic
components unlike traditional battery chargers thatrely on heavy
transformers. This allow s the charger tobelight w eightandcompact
withoutsacrificingonperformance.
4. PROTECTIVE FEATURES
POLARITY PROTECTION
Preventsthe output leadsfromsparking dueto accidentalreverse
connection or short circuit, making the charger safer touse around
batteries.
OUTPUT SHORT PROTECTION
Shortcircuitconnectionof the clips:Check clips are not touchingeach
other OR Check the clips are correctly connected tothebattery.
NON BATTERY LINK PROTECTION
BIf battery charger connectswithnonbattery load,it willgo into
protectionstate.
FAULTY BATTERY
Bulk charginghas timed out andstoppedafter 24 hours. Battery is
faulty andmay need to be replaced.
OVER VOLTAGEPROTECTION
The 12V charger willautomatically protectionif thevoltage is higher
than 17.5V.
OVER TEMPERATURE PROTECTION Internal temperatureis above
65OC +/-5OC
5. CHARGE STATUS INDICATOR

The CHARGING and FULLY CHARGED LEDs willilluminate and flash
in various patterns toindicate the differentstages ofcharging.See
below for flash patterns.
Note:: SOLID : FLASH: EXTINGUISHPOWER ON LED: Red
LED illuminates (solid) whenpower on.
CHARGING LED: Yellow LEDilluminates andflashes when7-stage
chargingprocess.
FULLY CHARGED LED: Green LED illuminates (solid) whenfully
charged.FAULTLED: When Red LED illuminates and flashes,itmay
be causedby:
1. Reverseconnectionbetweenpositiveandnegativeof theDC lead.
2. Battery charger outputshort.
3. Non battery link.
4. 12V charger connects to abattery voltagehigher than 17.5V
5. Charger's internal temperatureis higher than70OC
6. When Red LED flashes andYellow LEDilluminates (solid)means
bulk charginghas timed outand stopped after 24hours.

Q. How do I know ifthebatteryis chargedA.Thecharger's FULLY
CHARGED LED w illilluminate (solid).Alternatively usea Battery.
Hydrometer A readingof 1.250 or more in eachcell indicates a fully
chargedbattery.
Q. I have connectedthe chargerproperlybutthe'CHARGING LED'
does notcomeonA. Insome cases batteries canbeflattenedto the
point w here they have very little or no voltage.This canoccur if a small
amount of pow eris usedfor along time, for example a map reading
light is lefton for a w eekor more.7-Stagechargers aredesignedto
chargefromas little as 12V charger 2.0Volts. If the voltageis low er

than 2.0 Volts usea pair of booster cables toconnect betw eentwo
batteries to providemore than 2.0 Volts tothe battery being charged.
The chargercanthenstartto charge thebattery and the booster
cables canbe removed.
Q. Can I use the chargeras apowersupply?
A.7-Stagechargers are designedtoonly supply power tothebattery
clips whenthey areconnectedcorrectly toa battery.This is to prevent
sparks duringconnectiontothe battery or if connectedincorrectlyby
mistake. This safety featurepreventsthecharger frombeingusedas a
'Power Supply'.No Voltage willbepresentat theclips until connected
to the battery.
Q. How can I know whatstagethebattery chargeris in?
A.Below are the conditions that aredisplayedby the LEDs for eachof
the chargestages
