IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
GROUNDING OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
WARNING: Improper connection of the equipment–grounding
conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified
electrician or service person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet
is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the machine
– if it will not fit the outlet; have a proper outlet installed by a qualified
electrician.
Always use a properly grounded 3-wire extension cord, which has
male and female plugs. If 25 foot extension cords are used, the
electrical carrying capacity should be no less than 14-3 ST., 50-foot
extension cords no less than 12-3 ST.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
This machine shall be grounded while in use to protect the operator from electric shock. The machine
is provided with a three-conductor cord and a three-contact grounding type attachment plug. The plug
must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all
local codes and ordinances. The green conductor in the cord is the ground wire. Never connect this
wire to other than the grounding pin of the attachment plug.
Check nameplate on the machine to be sure voltage and cycle stated is the same as the electrical
outlet. Do not attempt to plug a 120-volt machine into a 240-volt outlet or a 240-volt machine into a
120-volt outlet. If the machine is provided with an attachment plug as shown in Figure A. below, it is
intended for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit. If a properly grounded receptacle as shown in Figure A.
is not available, an adapter may be installed as shown in Figure B. if the outlet box that houses the
receptacle is grounded. Be sure to fasten the grounding tab (the green colored rigid ear, lug or the like
extending from the adapter) with a metal faceplate screw.
If the machine is provided with an attachment plug as shown in Figure C., it is intended for use on a
nominal 240-volt circuit. No adapter is available for this plug.
NOTE: In Canada, the use of a temporary adaptor is not permitted by Canadian electrical code.
ALL REPAIR SERVICE MUST BE PERFORMED BY AN NSS AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTOR /
SERVICE STATION USING ONLY NSS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PARTS.
GENERAL INFORMATION
• Now that the machine is unpacked remember to
recycle all packing materials.
• Inspect the machine for damage or missing
components. If damage is found, contact the local
freight company to file a freight claim.
MACHINE OPERATION
WARNING! BE AWARE WATER
TEMPERATURE MAY EXCEED 200° F. USE
CAUTION WHEN OPERATING THIS
MACHINE.
SPOTTING PROCEDURES PRIOR TO
OPERATING MACHINE.
• Soak up excess liquids with a towel.
• Test cleaner on a small inconspicuous area to
make sure it will not damage the carpet fibers.
• Apply appropriate spotter, following directions on
the bottle.
OPERATING THE MACHINE.
• UNPLUG machine before attempting to fill with
water and position switch to the middle "OFF"
position.
• Unscrew the solution tank cover (black lid at the
rear of the machine) and pour in 1 1/2-gallons of
the warmest water possible. (This will shorten
heating time).
• BE SURE TO FILL WATER TO THE LID EDGE!
It will not heat unless entirely full.
• Replace the lid and plug the machine into an
electrical outlet.
• Toggle the power switch to "HEAT". The orange
light will come on indicating the heating cycle has
begun.
• When water temperature reaches it’s maximum
temperature, the light will go off indicating the
machine is ready for use.
Note 110°F water heats to 200°F in 8 minutes.
• Make sure the recovery tank lid (black lid in the
center of the machine) is on tight.
• Toggle the power switch to "Vacuum".
• Pull trigger to release water from nozzle until hot
water transfers through the length of solution hose.
• Start at outside edges of stain and work toward the
center. Use a dabbing, not a rubbing action.
• Repeat procedure if needed.
CAUTION!
DO NOT CONTINUE TO USE THE MACHINE
AFTER THE RECOVERY TANK IS FULL. THIS
WILL DAMAGE THE VACUUM MOTOR AND IS
NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
MAINTENANCE
Daily Maintenance
At the completion of every use you must perform
these simple procedures to ensure proper machine
operation and cleaning performance.
• Toggle the Power Switch to the MIDDLE position
to turn both the vacuum motor and the solution
pump OFF.
• DISCONNECT THE POWER CORD.
• Move the machine to a designated wastewater
“DISPOSAL SITE”.
• Disconnect the Hose Assembly from the machine.
• Tip the Recovery Tank and drain through hose
connection port.
• Tip the Solution Tank and drain unused water or
solution. Rinse the tank thoroughly of any debris or
cleaning chemical residue.
• Unscrew the tank covers and set aside to allow for
air-drying and prevention of odor buildup.
• Remove the spray tip (1/4 turn) from the upholstery
tool and put them in a glass or plastic container
with a solution of 25% vinegar and water overnight
to remove any chemical residue.
Note: To flush out or clean the solution tank, hose
and spray tip, make a one-gallon solution of 25%
vinegar and warm water, and pour it into the solution
tank. Turn on the switch, spray until all of the
solution has run through the pump and spray tips to
remove any chemical residue. Failure to flush the
solution system will result in poor spray patterns and
corroded jet spray tips.
Weekly Maintenance
• Verify that all daily maintenance has been done.
• Sanitize the recovery tank to help prevent bacteria
and odor buildup.
• Inspect the entire machine and accessories for
worn or damaged components. Repair or replace
components as required.
Monthly Maintenance
Verify that all weekly maintenance has been done.
Routine Maintenance
After 500 hours of operation the vacuum motor
carbon brushes must be inspected for wear by an
authorized service center. Failure to inspect motor
carbon brushes for wear can result in poor machine
performance and a reduction of motor service life.
Repair service for this machine must be performed by
an authorized service center. Repair service
performed by an unauthorized service companies will
void the machine warranty coverage.
