persons with restricted physical, sensory or mental capabilities or a lack of
experience and knowledge when they are under supervision or have been
instructed with regard to safe use of the phone and have understood the potential
risks which result if the instructions are ignored� Children may not be allowed to
play with the phone� Cleaning and maintenance may not be completed by
children without any supervision�

Never attempt to operate the phone using a different voltage�
CAUTION! Risk of explosion through improper replacement or removal of the
batteries! Only use the rechargeable batteries supplied and only replace the
rechargeable batteries with a type approved by the manufacturer�
CAUTION! The ringing tone is issued via the loudspeaker. Take an incoming
call rst and then hold the phone to your ear. This prevents any possible hearing
damage�
IMPORTANT! Protect the phone from moisture, dust, liquids, chemicals, vapours,
heat and direct sunlight� The phone is not waterproof; therefore, keep it dry�
IMPORTANT! Only use original accessories� Only connect accessories approved
by the manufacturer�
IMPORTANT! Repairs to the phone may only be completed by properly qualied
service personnel�

Intended Use
The DECT 5000 cordless telephone is suitable for telephoning within a public telephone
network system. Any other use is considered unintended use. Unauthorised modication or
reconstruction is not permitted� Only use the phone indoors�
Checking the Package Contents
Check the package contents of your phone before putting it into operation� The following are
enclosed with the phone supplied:
■DECT 5000 cordless telephone (handset)
■Charging cradle (base station)
■Power adapter plug (input 100 - 240 VAC, 50 - 60 Hz, 150 mA; output 6 VDC, 500 mA)
■2 x rechargeable batteries (AAA cell, 1�2 V)
■Telephone cable (modular plug, RJ-11)

Putting the Telephone into Operation
The DECT 5000 cordless telephone is comprised of a base station and a handset� Connect
the base station and handset as described in this section�
Connecting the Base Station
Well deciding on the installation location, take the range of the base station into account� It
has a range of about 50 metres but this can be reduced by walls or ceilings, for example�
1 Connect the telephone line connection cable to a telephone line connection socket� Alter-
natively, connect the base station to a telephone system or a router� Further information
is provided in the operating manual supplied with the respective device�
WARNING! Only use the power adapter supplied! The power adapter may only
be used with power sources which comply with the information on the rating plate�
Never attempt to operate the phone using a different voltage�
2 Connect the power adapter connector to the power adapter socket in the base station
and to a properly installed power socket�

INSERTING THE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

Inserting the Rechargeable Batteries
The handset can only work when the rechargeable batteries have been inserted properly�
The rechargeable batteries (2 x AAA cell, 1�2 V) are included in the material supplied with the
telephone package�
1 Remove the battery compartment cover from the handset� Use the recess in the battery
compartment cover on the underside of the handset�
2 Insert the batteries in the handset battery compartment as illustrated�
3 Replace the battery compartment cover on the handset� The battery compartment cover
latches audibly in place�
CAUTION! Risk of explosion through improper replacement or removal of the
batteries! Only use the rechargeable batteries supplied and only replace the
rechargeable batteries with a type approved by the manufacturer�

CHARGING THE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

Charging the Rechargeable Batteries
Charge the batteries in the handset at regular intervals� We recommend charging the batter-
ies in the handset for about 12 hours the rst time they are charged.
CAUTION! Risk of explosion through improper replacement or removal of the
batteries! Only use the rechargeable batteries supplied and only replace the
rechargeable batteries with a type approved by the manufacturer�
CAUTION! Risk of explosion through using batteries of the wrong type! Never
use standard (non-rechargeable) batteries� Never attempt to recharge standard
(non-rechargeable) batteries�
1 Place the handset in the base station� You will hear a short acoustic signal and the LED
on the top of the base station lights up�
During the charging process, the base station, handset and rechargeable batteries
may warm up� This is not a source of danger�
Switching the Handset On and Off
1 Press and hold the key for three seconds�
After a few seconds, the signal strength, battery charge status and name of the
handset appear in the display�

Using the Telephone
This section explains how to navigate through the phone menus, enter phone numbers and
letters and how to make, take, end and reject calls�
Making Calls
Enter the required phone number using the keypad and then press the
adjacent key�
When a call is in progress, the handset display indicates the current duration of the
call in hours, minutes and seconds (HH-MM-SS)�The LED at the top of the base
station lights up red, continuously, when a call is in progress�
Taking, Ending and Rejecting Calls
When a call is received, all the handsets connected ring� It is possible that the caller's num-
ber will appear in the handset displays (network-dependent)� If the caller is entered in the
phone book, the name entered for the person also appears�
When you want to take, end or reject calls, use the following keys:
Take an incoming call�
End a call in progress or reject an incoming call�

Navigating in the Menu
Use the following keys to navigate through the menus provided by the handset�
Navigate up and down in the menu�
Open submenus and conrm entries.
Navigate one menu level back or discard all your entries and settings�

Some keys may have different functions assigned depending on the context or have several
functions assigned� There is more information in the table below�

Functions Available on the Telephone
This section provides information on the range of functions available on the phone�
The PIN for the handset is 0-0-0-0 in its default setting� You can change the handset
PIN at any time� Further information is provided in Section Changing the PIN on
Page 23�
Settings
You can adapt the telephone settings according to your own individual needs�
Registering a Handset
Before you can start telephoning, you must register your handset on the base station� You
can register up to 5 handsets on the base station� The handsets must support the technical
requirements for use on the base station (e�g� GAP standard)� Further information is provided
in the operating manual supplied with the respective handset�
1 Navigate to the REGISTRATION menu�
2 Conrm by pressing the key�
3 Use the keypad to enter the PIN�
4 Conrm by pressing the key�
5 Select your base station using the Navigation keys�
6 Conrm by pressing the key�
7 Press the key on the base station. The LED on the base station ashes red. The
handset is registered on the base station� This process can take a short time�

Deregistering a Handset
You can deregister a handset from the base station:
1 Navigate to the BS SETTINGS èDELETE HS menu�
2 Conrm by pressing the key�
3 Use the keypad to enter the PIN�
4 Conrm by pressing the key�
5 Select the required base station using the Navigation keys�
6 Conrm by pressing the key�
Selecting the Base Station
Select the base station that your handset should use� This is only possible when the handset
is registered on more than one base station�
1 Navigate to the HS SETTINGS èSELECT BASE menu�
2 Conrm by pressing the key�
3 Select the required base station using the Navigation keys�
4 Conrm by pressing the key�
Language
If necessary, select the language you require for the handset:
1 Navigate to the HS SETTINGS èLANGUAGE menu�
