2. Introduction
The Oncam C-Series are the most powerful compact cameras from Oncam. Capable of
streaming at High Frame Rates, the 12MP C-12 camera streams 55 fps at full resolution,
significantly outperforming other 360-degree cameras in the market today, whilst the C-08, 8MP
camera can achieve 60fps at full resolution. This performance capability enables you to
maintain your chosen frame rate up to 30 fps on the primary stream even with up to 3 other
streams running. Users can now experience the benefits of full frame rate video without
sacrificing the flexibility for secondary streams.
The benefits of a high performance, powerful camera can only be achieved when users are
equipped with the right tools to harness them and this is where the C-Series really comes into
its own. Thanks to a wide range of onboard technologies developed by the Oncam team,
combined with an intuitive user interface and seamless ONVIF implementation, users have the
freedom to configure and tailor the camera to best serve their installation environment.
For example, via ONVIF commands from a VMS or the attractive Camera Web Interface, the
user has quick and easy access to Camera Modes, media streaming profiles, StreamLite
compression, TrueDetail HDR and Advanced Light Management settings. This ensures the
delivered stream has the desired image quality level, resolution, frame rate and bandwidth.
The Oncam Camera Configuration Tool uses the same sleek user interface and enables
advanced management of the C-Series cameras, enabling you to discover, update, configure
and control single or multiple cameras simultaneously with ease, saving time and resource.
In this guide we will take you through how to install, set up and get the most out of the C-Series
Camera.
The camera can be configured using a compatible ONVIF-conformant VMS within ONVIF
profile settings, or via the Camera's built in ONVIF based Web Interface and Camera
Configuration Tool. In this guide we will primarily reference the Camera Web Interface and
Camera Configuration Tool controls. Any changes made using the Web Interface and
Configuration Tool will be reflected in the compatible VMS and vice versa.

3. Camera Installation
Camera Configuration & Pre-Configuration
For access to full configuration functionality, it is recommended to install the camera module in
the correct final housing (Indoor or outdoor) prior to configuring the camera.
From Firmware V2.0.6 onwards several key features can be pre-configured on the camera
module prior to being placed in the final housing, these are:
- User Settings - User Credentials (e.g., Username and Password)
- Network Settings and Network configuration (e.g., Static IP)
- Device maintenance settings (e.g., Date and Time)
- SD card Recording configurations.
- Motion / Analytics (e.g., created rules)
- Image settings
- Camera mode preferences
oImage output (e.g., Fisheye only, Panoramic+ only, Multi-Mode)
oPerformance (e.g., High Speed or Multiple streaming)
- OSD/masks saved by Image output mode (e.g., Fisheye, Panoramic+ and Multi-Mode).
The following settings need to be configured when the camera module is in the correct final
housing:
- Media profiles
- Metadata settings
- Events
The Camera module will need to be in outdoor housing for Plus feature recognition and
configuration of the following settings:
- Actions/ Triggers
- H/W Input / Output
- Audio

Placement and Orientation
Camera placement is an important factor when planning your deployment. The Oncam C-Series
camera has an exceptionally wide viewing angle. Consider the camera location for providing
comprehensive coverage of a wide area. Mount the camera with an unobstructed view and
consider scene optimization when one portion of the scene is bright and another dark. The
camera supports three different mounting orientations, Ceiling, Wall and Table.
Ceiling mounting is preferred when most of the action is occurring below the camera in a
horizontal plane. When a person is directly below the camera, captured is the top‐of head view.
When the person moves away from the camera, more of their face and body becomes visible.
Hats extend that top-of‐head zone to some degree. Consider the viewing angle when requiring
people identification or recognition.
Depending on the use case, use a single camera to cover a small to medium sized space.
Mounting a camera high gives great situational awareness throughout a large space. When
planning coverage ensure there are no obstructions. Examples of obstructions include pillars,
high-sided furniture, and any hanging objects near the camera such as signage.
Wall mounting the camera can give a complete 180-degree side on view of an area. Use this
view where ceiling mounting is not possible or if you need to capture a higher level of detail for
Mount the Table Mount camera on a flat surface looking up. While this mount is for
demonstration or testing purposes, you could use this mount in a system. Use the Table Mount
for inspecting systems or viewing under vehicles.
The Oncam C-Series cameras provide coverage for open areas where situational awareness
of people and objects are required. The higher camera placement provides a larger coverage
area. However, with higher camera placement a reduction in the pixel density is expected.
Height impacts the image quality; therefore, ensure you consider image quality versus the
mounting height.
Perform tests to ensure that the camera meets the system operational requirements, and the
required detail level is available.

©
Avoid bright light sources pointing towards the camera lens. Always face lighting away from the
camera or above the camera installation line (if ceiling mounted).
For low light conditions consider adjusting the Exposure Priority in the camera from the Web
Interface. By default, this is set to Low Noise which optimizes the image by increasing exposure
time in lower light levels. the maximum frame rate is reduced as
exposure time increases. The image remains in full color until below one Lux, after which it
transitions to black and white for better contrast. Exposure priority is accessible from the
Camera Web Interface; Video/Audio > Image Settings > Exposure Priority.
Consider where the sun might rise and set, this may interfere with the image over time.
Connection
The Indoor C-Series is powered by Power over Ethernet (PoE). Connect power and data using
an Ethernet cable plugged into the camera Ethernet port. The PoE supply equipment must be
compliant with IEEE 802.3AF.
The C-Series Outdoor Plus can be powered in two ways using either Power over Ethernet (PoE)
or Direct DC Input.
For PoE, connect power and data using an Ethernet cable plugged into the camera Ethernet
port. The PoE supply equipment must be compliant with IEEE 802.3AF.
For direct DC Input use only a UL/CSA‐approved LPS or NEC Class 8-28 VDC, 15W LPS,
power supply (not supplied). The power source must be connected with the correct polarity. Do
not use an excess of 28 VDC from an external power supply. Doing so may damage the camera
and void the warranty.
For increased flexibility during camera installation, two methods of connection to the Oncam C-
Series camera are available - RJ45 and Punch Down (or IDC).
As part of the installation, if a network installer is bringing ethernet to every camera position
then you can plug the cable straight into the camera. If you are running your own infrastructure
and are terminating the cable, then you can either use punch down or add RJ45 connector on
the end.
Indoor Camera
Using a spirit level to make sure it is straight, affix the drilling template to the wall by removing
the self-adhesive backing.
Identify if you are going to install using the punch down or RJ45 connector, using a bradawl or
sharp point mark the two holes for the screws and the one hole for the ethernet cable.

This camera is designed to work with sheet material such as plasterboard. There is no minimum
sheet thickness, only it requires flat material, however the spring retaining strength will be
weaker the thinner the material is.
The springs will retain the camera material up to a maximum 25mm [1"] thick.
