Working Modes:
CHARGE
DISCHARGE
DISCHARGE - REFRESH
CHARGE - TEST
QUICKTEST
CHARGE Mode
Inthe CHARGE mode therechargeablebattery ischargedup to itsmaximum capacity at the
selectedcurrent. Charge termination or fullcharge is determined with amodified -dV (minus delta
voltage) algorithm. The proprietary modified algorithm ensures that full charge termination is
detected by the charger, even at low charge currents. Once fullcharge is detected the charger
enters amaintenance charge process supplying minimumchargeto thecell so thatit remains at
fullcapacityuntilready to use.
Note: When attempting to charge cells with high impedance, the chargerwill not rejectthe cells
as withsome other chargers. Instead the cell will be charged at a reduced currentfrom the
programmed setting. This willallow chargingof high resistance cells so thatthey maybe cycled to
improve their capacity and internal resistance.
Example: Insert battery into a slot. CHARGE will flash in that channel display. Press CURRENT
button to select 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, (1200 or1400) mA for the charge rate.
If CURRENT button is not pressed the current will automatically default to 400 mA.

Page4 of 6 Battery Charger BT-C2000
DISCHARGE Mode
Inthe DISCHARGEmode the rechargeable battery is discharged toa preset battery voltage (0.9V)
then discharged is terminated. At discharge termination 0 mAcurrent is displayed in that channel
display.Press the DISPLAYbutton to view discharged capacity.
Example: Insert battery intoa slot. Press MODE button untilDISCHARGE is displayed.
Press CURRENT button toselect 100, 200,300, 400, or500, (600 or 700) mA discharge rate.
If CURRENTbuttonis not pressed the discharge currentwill automatically default to 200 mA.
DISCHARGE - REFRESHMode
Inthe DISCHARGE-REFRESH modethe rechargeablebattery is dischargedthen chargedrepeatedly
to optimize to its maximum capacity. Old rechargeable batteries or rechargeable batteries that
havenot been used for along period oftime can be restored with this mode. Depending onthe
selecteddischarge andchargecurrent, it can take tens of hours forcompletion. Refresh mode will
make 3 complete discharge-charge workingcycles.When the discharge-charge cycles are
complete FULL willbe displayed in the channeldisplay.
Example: Insert battery into a slot. Press the MODE button until DISCHARGE-REFRESH is
displayed. Press the currentbutton for 100, 200, 300, 400,500, (600 or 700) mA discharge rate.
If the CURRENTbutton is not pressed the dischargecurrent willautomatically defaultto 200 mA.
CHARGE - TEST Mode
The CHARGE-TEST mode tests the present capacityof a rechargeable battery. The maximum
capacityis determined byfirst fully charging the battery, then discharging thebattery while
measuring dischargecurrent and time. The battery isthen charged to full. After completion of the
CHARGE-TEST mode, tested battery capacity is displayed inmAh orAH alternating with the FULL
indication.
Example: Insert battery into a slot. Press the MODE button untilCHARGE-TEST is displayed in
that channel.Press the CURRENT button to select200, 400, 600, 800,1000, (1200 or 1400)
charge rate. If CURRENT button is not pressed the current willautomatically defaultto 400 mA.
QUICK TEST Mode
The chargerwillanalyze the dynamic internal batteryresistance by applying a load current and this
current reading is referred to the voltage drop detected on the battery.Within 10 seconds the
tested battery resistance will be displayedin the unitof milliohms (thousandthsof an ohm).Only
fully chargedbatteries should be tested for internal resistance. Please note that the internal
battery resistancecan be very small, and contact resistance can be a major factor; thus with the
samebattery tested in a differentslotor even in the same slot with different contact conditions,
measurements canvary by up to 20%.
Example: Insert battery into a slot. Press the MODE button untilQUICK TEST is displayed in that
channel. This symbol will appearin that channel-- --. Wait fora numberornumbers to appearin
place of the symbol -- --;this may take 30 seconds or longer. This will be the battery internal
resistance in milliohms. A reading of 55 represents 55 milliohms or 0.055 ohms.
NOTE: Due to greater contact resistance, measuring internal resistance ofhigh capacity C and D
cellswith the included C&D to AAadapters isunreliable. Typicallyinternalresistance ofhigh

Page5 of 6 Battery Charger BT-C2000
capacityC and D cells isvery low. In this case contact resistance is much greaterthan the internal
resistance of the cell. The addedcontact resistance of the adaptercontacts renders the
measurementinvalid.
6.2 CURRENTSelection
After the Mode isselectedpress the CURRENTbutton to toggle between availablecharge/
dischargecurrentselections. Default charge currentis 400 mA.Available selections are 200 mA,
400 mA,600 mA, 1000 mA. If batteries are inserted in onlyslots 1 and 4 the charging current can
befurther selected to 1200 mA or 1400mA for channels1 or 4.Ifchargecurrentis selectedto
1200 mA or 1400mAfor channels 1or 4 and batteriesare then inserted into slots 2 and 3,the
charge current in slots 1 or 4 will be reduced to 1000 mA maximum.
Dischargecurrent isautomatically selected at one half of the charge current.Maximumdischarge
current is 500 mA.If battery slots 2 or 3arenotoccupiedthen600 or 700 mA dischargecurrent
maybe programmed for dischargecurrent. However actualdischarge current may be lower
depending on batteryinternalresistance.
6.3 DISPLAY Selection
Press the DISPLAY button to toggle among the display of Voltage,Current, Capacity and Time.
§Charge/DischargeCurrent: the instantaneous currentis displayed.
§Time Elapsed:The charging/discharging timeof the last cycle is displayed.
§Accumulated Capacity: The accumulatedcharge or discharge capacity is displayed in mAh or Ah.
§Voltage:The instantaneous battery voltage is displayed.
§Quick Test:displays the measured internal battery resistance in milliohms.
§Full: Battery fullcharge detected. After the rechargeable battery is fully charged maintenance
charging will be started automatically. Maintenance chargingprevents the rechargeable
batteries from being overcharged when left in the chargerand compensates for self-discharging
of the batteries.FULL willflash in the display whenfull charge isdetected.
6.4 SLOT Selection
Pressing the SLOTbutton will start the slot selectionprocessin the sequence: Slot 1, Slot 2, Slot 3,
Slot4,All4 Slots, and Exit.Flashing display segmentindicatesslot selection. If allfour display slot
segments are flashing, this indicates allfour slotsselected. Mode and Current selection will then
befortheselected slots.
7. Temperature Monitoring
Battery temperature and charger internal temperature are monitored duringoperation. Battery
temperature of 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees F) or controllerboardtemperature of 77 degrees
Celsius (171 degreesF) willcause operationto besuspended. Four batteries are temperature
monitored individually. Two controllerboard sensorsmonitor charger internaltemperature. If
controllerboardover temperature is detected, currentwill besuspendedfor the corresponding
two battery slots. If batteryover temperature is detected onlythe affected channelcurrentwillbe
suspended accordingly. The charging/discharging processwillonly resume once the temperature
ofthe batteries drops below 40degrees Celsius (104 degrees F)or chargercontroller board
temperature dropsbelow 50degrees Celsius (122 degreesF) as appropriate.

Page6 of 6 Battery Charger BT-C2000
Monitored battery temperature may alsomodify the chargeprogramselected. DeltaT (the
temperature change) algorithmis notthe primary algorithm fordetermining abatteryfull-charge
condition; however, temperature is measured andused tomodify the charge profilein a
proprietary method. Thisensures that battery temperature never approaches critical limits and
protectsbatteries from temperature extremes. As a fail-safemethod batterytemperaturemay
cause charge termination as a fullcharge eventif otherparameters are met aswell.
8. Maintenance
The device is maintenance free but should be cleaned occasionally. When cleaning, the device
must be removed from any power source. Only use dry and soft cloth to clean the housing of the
charger Do not use abrasive or solvents.
Repairs may only be performed by authorized repairstations.Any repairor modification not
performedby an authorized repair station voids the manufacturer's warranty.
9. Disposal
9.1Disposalof waste electrical and electronic equipment.
Inorderto preserve, protectand improve the qualityof environment, protect human health and
utilize natural resources prudently andrationally, the user should return unserviceable product to
relevantfacilities in accordance with statutory regulations. Thecrossed-out wheeledbin
indicates theproduct needs to be disposedseparately and not as municipal waste.
Neverdispose ofbatteries ina fire. Explosionand personal injury may result.
9.2Usedbatteries/rechargeablebatteries disposal.
Regulations requireproper disposal of rechargeable batteries.Disposing usedbatteries inthe
