1 Safety instructions
1.1 General safety instructions

Read the included safety instructions carefully. If safety instruc-
tions are missing, please contact the support of OSRAM BU

The product may only be operated in the operating modes de-
scribed in the manual. All other applications are considered to be
inappropriate use. If the product is not used as intended, there is
no guarantee that it will operate safely.
2 General instructions

The Ethernet port of the LIGHTDRIVE+ is not designed for
inter-building connections. Use the LIGHTDRIVE+ only with
intra-building networks.
2.1 Firmware version
This manual is only valid for LIGHTDRIVEs+ with firmware version 1.1.6411 or later.
See chapter „15 Firmware update“ how to check the firmware version and how to
upgrade. Visit www.ecue.com/download to get the recent firmware version for the
LIGHTDRIVE+.
This firmware version is not compatible to earlier versions. The DMX output may be
slightly different. The functionality of the LIGHTDRIVE+ does not change.

3 Device description
The LIGHTDRIVE+ is a wall-mounted standalone DMX512 controller for dynamic
lighting. It features keys and a jog wheel with color LEDs for intuitive selection of
colors and adjustment of intensity and speed. Eight memory slots allow to predefine
color-changing effects. Additionally these settings can be configured from a PC via
USB. It can be easily connected to LED RGB(W) fixtures through a clamp connec-
tion for power and data. The finish of the LIGHTDRIVE+ is designed for an elegant
appearance as well as easy maintenance.

5 General remarks
5.1 Transport
Only transport the devices in their original packaging. This protects the device from
damage. Only unpack the at its installation location. To protect the device against
condensation water, unpack it and wait until all moisture remaining in the device has
evaporated. Condensation can occur when the device is moved from a cold to a
warm location.
5.2 Unpacking and delivery content
Unpack the devices and inspect all parts for completeness regarding chapter „De-
livery content“. Keep the packaging for use in case of further transport. If there is
apparent damage to the device or parts are missing from the delivery scope, please
contact e:cue service.
5.3 Warranty regulations
Depending on the product, guaranty regulations are of different duration. The war-
ranty time is usually noted in the quote and in the order confirmation. See the chapter
“Terms and Conditions” in the OSRAM website for details. Legal warranty regulations
apply in any case.
5.4 Disposal
The proper disposal of packing materials and of the device is the responsibility of the
respective user and for his account; in all other matters, the retrieval obligation for
packing materials and the device is subject to the statutory regulations.

Batteries and technical appliances must not be disposed of with
domestic waste, but should be handed in at the appropriate col-
lection and disposal points.

5.5 Maintenance and Repair
This device requires no maintenance.

Do not try to repair the device, if it is defective or apparently
defective. Return it to your distributor for replacement or repair.

6 Mounting
The LIGHTDRIVE+ can be mounted in most standard wall-mount boxes (DE, US, UK,
JP etc.). It is recommended to install it in a double-box to have room for the cabling.
Mount the base plate for the LIGHTDRIVE+ with the pro-
vided screws on the wall-mount boxes, recess to the
top. Use a spirit level to ensure proper positioning. Use
as many of the appropriate fixing holes of the base plate
as possible. Make all required connections to the LIGHT-
DRIVE+
Place the LIGHTDRIVE+ on the base plate so all
four noses of the base plate rest in the four holes of
the LIGHTDRIVE+. Shift down the LIGHTDRIVE+
until the locker latches with a small click.
Keep the shielding and twisting of the Ethernet
wires as long as possible to ensure proper Ether-
net connections.

Do not over-tighten the mounting screws for the base plate. This
may damage the holes for the screws or the base plate gets
twisted..
6.1 Unmounting
To unmount the LIGHTDRIVE+, insert a narrow screw driver into the small hole in the
bottom right side to unlock the latch. Shift the LIGHTDRIVE+ slightly up until it gets
fully released.

8 DIP switches
The DIP switches define the basic configuration like fixture types for the three zones
and locking functions. The DIP switches are only read when the LIGHTDRIVE+ is
powered up. After changing the switch settings, the LIGHTDRVE+ must be restarted.

8.1 Fixture types

8.2 Zones
The LIGHTDRIVE+ can control three different zones, which can be selected from the
front panel.
Zones
A DMX 1, DMX addresses 1 ... 512
B DMX 2, DMX addresses 1 ... 256 (default value)
C DMX 2, DMX addresses 257 ... 512 (default value)
8.3 Control all Zones via Zone A
If DIP switch 9 is set to enabled, Zone control for the Zones B and C is linked to Zone
A (including brightness levels) with the following modifications.
yIf Zone A is selected, Scene control in this Zone is also valid for B and C. Relay
settings are only used as defined for Zone A, relay settings for Zones B and C are
ignored.
yIf Zone B or C are selected, all control works as defined, including relay settings.
In this way, you can control all Zones, if Zone A is selected. With Zones B and C
selected, you have separate control for the current Zone.

9 Additional configuration settings
Using the LIGHTDRIVE+ Configurator, you can configure additional settings for the
LIGHTDRIVE+.
yDimming unused lightbars: only the bar for the current active Scene is at full
intensity, all unused bars are dimmed.
yStart and end values for DMX channels in the Zones can be defined freely.
10 Power supply
The LIGHTDRIVE+ is powered by a 24 V DC external power supply or via standard
Power over Ethernet (PoE). It is also possible to power the LIGHTDRIVE+ via the USB
interface. This is only recommended when updating the firmware of the device and
no external power supply is available.

The LIGHTDRIVE+ requires up to 500 mA supply current from
the USB interface (USB 2.0). Make sure that the power source
can provide this current.
11 Standard use
The LIGHTDRIVE+ controls up to two DMX universes. This address range is split into
three Zones. To any Zone a Scene can be assigned, a Scene can be a constant color
or effect, and a brightness level. To select Zones and assign Scenes, touch-sensitive
button are used. To change the brightness turn the jog wheel. To switch the LIGHT-
DRIVE+ on and off, press the jog wheel. The color in the current selected Zone is also
used to illuminate the jog wheel while it is not in dimmed or sleep mode.

When the LIGHTDRIVE+ is not used, the bars and LEDs are dimmed down after 30
seconds (default). It returns to the active state when the job wheel is turned or any
button is touched. The integrated proximity sensor also reactivates the device, when
the user approaches the LIGHTDRIVE+. Reactivation does not change the selected
Zone or Scene. After switching off the device and switching it on again, the LIGHT-
DRIVE+ restores the same state as selected before.
11.1 Jog wheel
Use the jog wheel to switch the LIGHTDRIVE+
on and off. Switching is done by pressing the jog
wheel. In standard mode, the jog wheel controls the
brightness (CW = higher, CCW = lower). The jog
wheel also shows the current color of the fixtures.
If the LIGHTDRIVE+ is in OFF Mode, you can
change the appearance of the jog wheel illumina-
tion (pulsative or static) by turning the jog wheel.
11.2 Zones
Select a zone with of the three Zone buttons. A sig-
nal sound indicates the zone selection. The LIGHT-
DRIVE+ controls three Zones:
yZone A: DMX 1, addresses 1 ... 512
yZone B: DMX 2, addresses 1 ... 256
yZone C: DMX 2, addresses 257 ... 512
The application LIGHTDRIVE+ Configurator can
change these default DMX address range for Zone B/C. See chapter „13 Complete
programming“ where to download this application.
11.3 Scenes
Select a Scene for the current Zone by touching one of the eight Scene buttons.
The right Scene number lights up, a signal sound indicates the selection of a Scene.
The following scenes are preconfigured for the different fixture types (see chapter “8.1
Fixture Types”) on the LIGHTDRIVE+:

11.4 Tone

Use of the Tone button and saving Scenes requires that the
corresponding DIP switches (DIP switch 8 & 10) on the back are
set to the “on” position.
The Tone button has three different modes.
yIf the Zone LED and the Zone bar are constantly alight, the jog wheel controls
the brightness. The Tone LED and the Tone bar are off. The LIGHTDRIVE+ is in
standard mode.
yA short touch of the Tone button switches to color mode. A short signal sound is
played. The Tone LED now blinks and you can select a color with the jog wheel.
The jog wheel and the Tone bar reflect the current color. Touch the Tone button
again to leave Tone mode without saving changes.
yA long press of five seconds switches to speed mode for effects. Again, a signal
sound is played. The Tone LED blinks and the Tone bar flashes. You now can
select the speed of the current effect, the Tone bar blinks with the speed of the ef-
fect. If the speed is zero, the Tone bar is constantly alight. Touch the Tone button
again to return to standard mode without changes.
A short press of the Tone button returns to standard mode. If there is no action within
30 seconds, the LIGHTDRIVE+ returns to the dimmed state and the mode returns to
standard mode. After switching on the LIGHTDRIVE+, the Tone function is always in
standard mode for controlling the brightness of the fixtures.
In any case, the button of the jog wheel shows the current color of the Scene for the
current selected Zone, wether saved or not.
Press shortly any Scene button to exit editing mode and to return to normal opera-
tion. Note that changes are omitted.
11.5 Saving Scenes
Usually you save Scenes after changing the Tone or the speed of an effect. A Scene
can be saved by a long press of five seconds on a Scene button. The Scene consists
of color or effect, dimming and effect settings. A signal sound affirms the saving of
the Scene.

11.6 Locking the LIGHTDRIVE+ completely
The LIGHTDRIVE can be locked completely via the front buttons.

yKeep touching the Tone (1) button until you hear a signal
sound. Keep it touched.
yNow touch the Scene 8 button (2), keep both touched
together for at least five seconds.
yThe jog wheel blinks in white for five seconds. During this
time, press the jog wheel.
yIf you do not press the jog wheel, the LIGHTDRIVE+ will
return to normal operation.
The LIGHTDRIVE+ is now locked completely. Signals over
the digital inputs like Scene selection are still accepted. To
unlock the LIGHTDRIVE+, repeat the steps above, this time
without acoustic signaling or power down the device. The
locking will also be disabled when the state of the digital inputs changes.
11.7 Master and slave mode
The LIGHTDRIVE+ supports different master and slave modes to synchronize several
LIGHTDRIVE+ devices via the TCP/IP port. This includes a multimaster, a master and
a slave mode. Please use the multimaster mode if you have several LIGHTDRIVE+
that should synchronize their currently running scene automatically. Please use the
master mode if one master is supposed to control several slave devices or use the
slave mode if you would like a LIGHTDRIVE+ to react on button presses of a master
with the same Class ID.

While setting up a multimaster or a master/slave system please
keep in mind that only devices with the same Class ID are linked
to each other.
The master or slave mode is set with the LIGHTDRIVE+ Configurator application.
