Safety information
Read this important safety information before using the device. Heed
the warnings and cautions to prevent injury to yourself and others,
and to avoid damaging the device. Retain this safety information.
Symbols used in this document
Symbol Meaning
Warning: This symbol indicates that failure to comply
with the stated safety warnings and information could
result in serious personal injury or even death.
Warning, Trip Hazard: The device is designed to be used
while sitting or standing still. This symbol indicates that
failure to comply with this warning could result in serious
injury or even death.
Caution: This symbol indicates that failure to comply
with stated safety advice could result in personal injury
or damage to the device due to incorrect handling.

Precautions when viewing images
Warnings
When viewing images on the device take care not to look
directly at the sun or other bright light sources, as this
could result in damage to your eyes or eyesight.
Cautions
Always take regular breaks when viewing images using
the device, as prolonged use of the device can cause eye
fatigue. If you feel tired or uncomfortable at any time
when using the device stop viewing immediately.
Stop using the device if you develop motion sickness or
feel nauseated while wearing the glasses.
If the device becomes damaged or malfunctions in any
way stop using the device immediately. Continuing to
use a damaged or faulty device may result in nausea or
injury. Contact the OXSIGHT Care Team for assistance.

Device usage precautions
Cautions
Stop using the device immediately if your skin becomes
itchy or you develop any unusual rashes after touching
the device. If you sweat while using the device, wipe any
moisture from both the device and your face.
Do not attempt to open up or tamper with the device or
modify the software or operating system on the device
in any way, either yourself or by asking someone else to
do so. Doing so may damage the device and lead to a
deterioration in device performance.
This is a Class-1 medical device. Any attempt to make
changes to the technology or software on the device
could change its use and will invalidate the warranty.
Do not leave the device in the sun. Heat could damage it,
and the OLED panels could be damaged if the lenses are
left facing up in direct sunlight. Do not leave the device in
the car as it can get very hot.

Conditions of use
Warnings
Do not expose the device to conditions of high humidity
or an area where it may get wet, such as a shower,
steamy room or swimming pool. Do not use the device
in a smoky or dusty environment. Doing so could lead to
electric shock, fire or deterioration of performance.
OXSIGHT only recommends the use of the charging
accessories provided with the device. See page 49.
Do not use the AC adapter or cables if they are damaged
as this may result in electric shock. Do not charge the
device using a laptop or PC. When charging from a mains
supply the socket should be easily accessible to allow
swift disconnection.

Cautions
Do not puncture, open or disassemble the battery
contained in the device. Do not attempt to service or
replace the battery. Contact the OXSIGHT Care Team for
guidance.
Do not dismantle, open, short-circuit or manipulate the
device. Risk of electric shock!
Danger of electric shock! Unplug before cleaning.
Service
Warnings
Do not attempt to repair or service the device yourself.
Do not open the device, as this may expose you or others
to electric shock, sharp edges and other unknown risks.
Contact the OXSIGHT Care Team for any service
requirements.

Disposal
Warnings
Do not dispose of the device in a fire, as this may lead to
the device exploding. Contact your local waste collection
provider or local government office for advice on safe
disposal. See page 54.
Intended use
• Onyx is a Class-1 medical device intended for use by individuals
who are visually impaired, to provide an enhancement to
remaining vision.
• Onyx is designed to improve the ability to carry out tasks such as
reading, watching TV, and recognising faces. This can help with
work, study, social situations, and hobbies.
• Onyx is designed for adults with Central Vision Loss, which is often
a result of conditions such as Age-related Macular Degeneration
and other sight conditions including Macular dystrophy and
Stargardt’s Disease.

• Onyx may also be used by children over 11 years old, but only on
the approval of their optician. Children wearing the device must be
supervised at all times by a responsible adult.
• Onyx is compliant with IEC/EN 60601-1 with additional test
facilities for IEC/EN 61010 (Laboratory Equipment) including
Touch Leakage, Voltage Measurement and dedicated IEC 61010
Measuring Device (Body Model).
• Onyx is compliant with IEC 60601-1-2 which applies to the basic
safety and essential performance of Medical Electrical equipment
and Medical Electrical systems in the presence of electromagnetic
disturbances and to electromagnetic disturbances emitted by
Medical Electrical equipment and Medical Electrical systems.

Electromagnetic compatibility
Warnings
The device must not be used with different cables and
accessories as this can affect the EMC performance of
the device. The device can interfere with other medical
equipment so check with the equipment provider if you
intend to use Onyx where other medical equipment
is in use (e.g. clinics or hospital settings) or if specialist
medical equipment is used within the home.
Directions for use
Warnings
The device is not intented to be used as a mobility aid. Do
not wear the device while walking or driving or operating
hazardous machinery. The device must not be used
during any activity that could be considered hazardous.
Failure to follow this advice may lead to serious injury
and even death. Onyx is not designed to cure, restore
vision, or halt a degenerative eye condition.

Possible contraindications
The contraindications listed below have been compiled based on
clinical judgment, not scientific research:
• Severe Dry eyes
• Nystagmus
• Severe Photosensitivity and Light wavelength sensitivity
• Contact dermatitis and Severe/photosensitive Epilesy
• Ocular infection and Migrain sufferers (light triggered)
Caring for your device
• Always switch the device off when not in use and keep the device in
the rigid zippable case provided to prevent accidental damage.
• Do not use solvents to clean any part of the device. Avoid getting
liquids, sunscreen, skin lotions, or makeup on the device.
• Allow the device to dry thoroughly.
• Regularly check for any cracks or case damage to the headset,
USB cable and charger. In case of damage stop use immediately
and contact Onyx customer support for assistance.

Control buttons
Use the six buttons on the top of Onyx to switch on and off, pause the
display, and access modes and settings (e.g. zoom).
The table on the next page gives an overview of what the buttons are
used for.
