Cleaning, care and storage of cast iron
If you take good care of your cast-iron product, it will last for generations. Here you should
follow some important general rules:
•
Use wooden, heat-resistant plastic or silicone cooking utensils instead of metal. This, as well as
abrasive sponges or metal drip scrapers, could damage your cast iron product. Do not use sharp
objects in the Hand Mortar, such as knives.
•
After use, rinse your Petromax cast iron only with hot water, dry it thoroughly and grease it. For
this purpose, use the Petromax Care Conditioner for Cast and Wrought iron or a neutral oil, such
as linseed, rapeseed or pumpkin seed oil, or vegetable fat. Do not use olive oil. For cleaning we
recommend the Petromax Chain Mail Cleaner for Cast and Wrought iron. Cast iron must not be
cleaned in the dishwasher.
• Store your cast iron in a dry place. For optimal ventilation, you can place a piece of thin cardboard
or sturdy paper between the lid and the top part and place the bottom separately.
•
Do not store wet spices, such as basil, in the cast-iron product for extended periods of time (for
example overnight), as rust may develop.
• Do not prepare acidic foods, such as tomatoes, citrus fruits or red wine, in the cast iron product.
