PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION
It is imperative that the user complies with the operating instructions
as it contains important safety advice.
Items and procedures are described so that you can use this unit correctly and safely.
If the precautions advised are followed, this will prevent possible injury to the user and
any other person.
Precautions are illustrated in the following way:
WARNING
Failure to observe WARNING signs could result in a hazard to personnel
possibly resulting in serious injury or death.
CAUTION
Failure to observe CAUTION signs could result in injury to personnel and
damage to the unit and associated property.

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION
Do not use the unit outdoors. Current leakage or electric shock may result if the unit is exposed to
rain water.
Only qualified engineers or service personnel should install the unit. The installation by
unqualified personnel may cause electric shock or fire.
Install the unit on a sturdy floor and take an adequate precaution to prevent the unit from
turning over. If the floor is not strong enough or the installation site is not adequate, this may result
in injury from the unit falling or tipping over.
Select a level and sturdy floor for installation. This precaution will prevent the unit from tipping.
Improper installation may result in water spillage or injury from the unit tipping over.
Never install the unit in a humid place or a place where it is likely to be splashed by water.
Deterioration of the insulation may result which could cause current leakage or electric shock.
Never install the unit in a flammable or volatile location. This may cause explosion or fire.
Never install the unit where acid or corrosive gases are present. The current leakage or
electric shock may result due to corrosion.
Use a power supply outlet with ground (earth) to prevent electric shock. If the power supply
outlet is not grounded, it is necessary to install a ground by qualified engineers.
Never ground the unit through a gas pipe, water main, telephone line or lightning rod.
Inadequate grounding may cause electric shock in the case of an incomplete circuit.
Connect the unit to a power source as indicated on the rating label attached to the unit. Use
of any other voltage or frequency other than that on the rating label may cause fire or electric shock.
Never store volatile or flammable substances in this unit if the container cannot be sealed.
These may cause explosion or fire.
Do not insert metal objects such as a pin or a wire into any vent, gap or any outlet on the unit.
This may cause electric shock or injury by accidental contact with moving parts.
Use this unit in safe area when treating the poison, harmful or radiate articles. Improper use
may cause bad effect on your health or environment.
Turn off the power switch and disconnect the power supply to the unit prior to any
maintenance. Failure to follow this may cause electric shock or injury.

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION
Do not touch any electrical parts (such as power supply plug) or operate switches with a wet
hand. This may cause electric shock.
Ensure you do not inhale or consume medication or aerosols from around the unit at the time
of maintenance. These may be harmful to your health.
Never splash water directly onto the unit. Water or liquid may cause electric shock or short circuit.
Never put containers with liquid on the unit. Water or liquid may cause electric shock or short
circuit.
Never bind, process, or step on the power supply cord, or never damage or break the power
supply plug. A broken supply cord or plug may cause fire or electric shock.
Do not use the power supply cord if there is something wrong with it. A broken supply cord or
plug may cause fire or electric shock.
Never disassemble, repair, or modify the unit or optional components yourself.. Any such work
carried out by an unauthorized person may result in fire, or electric shock or injury due to a
malfunction.
Disconnect the power supply plug if there is something wrong with the unit. Continued
abnormal operation may cause electric shock or fire.
When removing the power supply plug from the power supply outlet, grip the power supply
plug, not the cord. Pulling the cord may result in electric shock or fire by short circuit.
Before moving the unit, be absolutely sure to disconnect the power supply plug from the
power outlet, and then move the unit while ensuring that its power supply cord is not damaged.
If the power supply cord is damaged, electric shock and/or a fire may result.
Disconnect the power plug when the unit is not used for long periods. Keeping the connection
may cause electric shock, current leakage, or fire due to the deterioration of insulation.
If the unit is to be stored unused in an unsupervised area for an extended period, ensure that
children do not have access and that doors cannot be closed completely. Removing doors
prevents accidents such as suffocation.
The disposal of the unit should be accomplished by appropriate personnel. Leaving the unit in
an unsupervised area may cause accidents.
Do not put the packing plastic bag within reach of children. Leaving the packing plastic bag may
cause accidents such as suffocation.

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION
The replacement of the battery for power failure alarm should be executed by a qualified
engineer or a service personnel only. The replacement of the battery for power failure alarm
involves the risk of electric shock.
Install the unit in a well-ventilated (airy) location to prevent the accumulation of flammable
refrigerant. The flammable refrigerant may cause fire if it leaks.
Never damage the chamber wall or pipework in the chamber when removing the frost. The
flammable refrigerant may cause fire if it leaks.
Flammable and explosive product. The unit contains flammable refrigerant. Be sure to follow the
below instructions when servicing or recycling.
Well ventilate the room to prevent refrigerant accumulation.
Keep fire away when the refrigerant is contained in the product.
Do not damage or break the pipework.
Do not place this unit in a location where it is difficult to disconnect the power supply plug.
Failure to disconnect the power supply plug may cause fire in the event of a problem or malfunction.

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION
This unit must be plugged into a dedicated circuit protected by branch circuit breaker.
Use a dedicated power source as indicated on the rating label attached to the unit. A
multiple-tap may cause fire resulting from abnormal heating.
Connect the power supply plug to the power source firmly after removing the dust on the plug.
A dusty plug or improper insertion may cause a heat or ignition.
Never store corrosive substances such as acid or alkali in this unit if the container cannot be
sealed. These may cause corrosion of inner components or electric parts.
At the recovery from the power failure, check the unit starts the operation properly. Also
check there is no change on the setting.
When moving the unit, contact our sales representative or agent. The moving by a user may
cause damage or injury resulting from tipping over of the unit.
Do not use a brush, an acid, a thinner, a laundry soap, a powder detergent, boiling water for
cleaning. These cause damage of painted surface or failure of plastic and rubber components.
Prepare a safety check sheet when you request any repair or maintenance for the safety of
service personnel. Copy the “Safety check sheet” and hand it to a service personnel after filling the
sheet.

This symbol is attached to covers that access high-voltage electrical components to
prevent electric shock. Only a qualified engineer or service personnel should be
allowed to open these covers.
This symbol indicates that caution is required. Refer to product documentation for

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
This equipment is designed to be safe at least under the following conditions (based on the IEC61010-1):
■Indoor use;
■Altitude up to 2000 m;
■Ambient temperature 5oC to 40oC;
■Maximum relative humidity 80% for temperature up to 31oC decreasing linearly to 50% relative humidity
at 40oC;
■Mains supply voltage fluctuations up to ±10% of the nominal voltage;
■Transient overvoltages up to the levels of OVERVOLTAGE CATEGORY II;
■Temporary OVERVOLTAGES occurring on the mains supply;
■Applicable pollution degree of the intended environment (POLUTION DEGREE 2 in most cases)
INTENDED USE AND PRECAUTIONS
This equipment is designed for low temperature storage of DNAs and plasma.
The effective storage period depends on the sample condition and storage temperature. It is
necessary to determine the storage temperature and period suitable for the purpose.
For the plasma, the lower storage temperature should be required for longer term storage. It is
recommended to store the plasma at -80oC or lower.

FREEZER COMPONENTS
1. Control panel: The chamber temperature and alarms can be set through the keys on the control panel.
The temperature display and indicators are also provided on the control panel [page 14].
2. Lock: By using with the enclosed key, both the upper door and lower door are locked or unlocked.
3. Leveling foot: This is the bolt for setting the unit and adjusting the level on the right and the left. At
the installation, extend the bolt until the front casters are away from the floor to set the unit [page 17].
4. Space for temperature recorder: A temperature recorder (option) is mounted here and the chamber
temperature can be recorded automatically [page 40].
5. Storage container: This is made of styrol resin. Be careful not to damage the storage container by
the scraper when removing the frost.
The bottom 2 large storage containers are used for collecting the water when defrosting [page 32].
Note:
Do not pull the storage container excessively. The storage container may fall down.
6. Door latch: Always use the door latch to keep the door firmly.
7. Fixture (back side): A fixture is attached to the rear of the frame. Fix the frame to the wall with this
fixture and rope or chain [page 17].
8. Space for optional component: An interface board (MTR-480) or a LAN interface board (MTR-L03) is
installed here [page 40].
9. Remote alarm terminal: A remote alarm device (marketed product) can be connected to this terminal.
The alarm is noticed to an operator in the remote area by the remote alarm when the unit is installed in an
unmanned location [page 28].
10. Battery switch: This is a power switch of the battery for power failure alarm. Always keep ON this
switch during freezer operation to notice the power failure alarm.
11. Power switch: This is a power switch of the unit (ON=“l”,OFF=“○”).
12. Access port: This port is used to pass the sensor or cable of measuring equipment, or sensor of
temperature recorder (option) to the chamber.
Always replace the rubber caps and the insulation to the access port when no use or the rise of
chamber temperature or condensation outside the access port may be resulted.

Control panel
1. Door check indicator (DOOR):
The red LED lamp is lit when the door is open.
The buzzer sounds 2 minutes (initial setting)
after lighting of door check indicator to inform the
door open [page 29].
2. Alarm indicator (ALARM):
The red LED lamp blinks during an alarm
condition [page 29].
3. Battery indicator (BATTERY):
The orange LED lamp is lit to notice the time for
battery replacement [page 30].
4. Temperature display:
Normally shows the current chamber temperature
and during an alarm condition, shows an error
code etc. [page 30].
5. Up arrow key ( ):
At “temperature display mode”; Depressing this
key for more than 5 seconds leads setting mode.
At “setting mode”; By depressing this key, the
figure to be inputted (blinked digit) on the
temperature display can be changed [page 20 to
page 26].
At the setting of “lock of chamber temperature
setting”: By depressing this key, ON/OFF of the
lock can be selected [page 21].
6. Scroll key ( ):
At “temperature display mode”; Depressing this
key for more than 5 seconds leads the setting of
“lock of chamber temperature setting” [page 21].
At “setting mode”; Depressing this key leads the
movement between the digits to be inputted
(blinked digit) on the temperature display [page 20
to page 26].
7. Set key (SET):
At “temperature display mode”; depressing this
key leads “chamber temperature setting mode”.
At “setting mode”; Depress this key to enter the
set value during the setting procedure [page 20 to
page 26].
“temperature display mode”: the status that the
current chamber temperature is displayed on the
temperature display
“setting mode”; the status that the input on the
temperature display is effective by depressing the
up arrow key for more than 5 seconds.

FREEZER COMPONENTS
8. Defrost key (DEF.):
At “temperature display mode”; depressing this
key for more than 5 seconds leads the stop of
freezer operation. Depressing this key again
leads resumption of freezer operation. For the
details, refer to page 32.
9. Buzzer stop key (BUZZER):
The buzzer is silenced by depressing this key
when the alarm indicator blinks and the buzzer
sounds.
The buzzer sounds again after 30 minutes
(initial setting) even if the buzzer is stopped by
depressing the buzzer stop key (BUZZER)
when the same alarm status continues.
The alarm indicator blinks and the buzzer
sounds when other alarm is occurred in spite of
buzzer suspended period.
10. Alarm test key (ALARM TEST):
This key is used to check the operation of
buzzer, alarm indicator and remote alarm
terminal [page 31].

INSTALLATION SITE
To operate this unit properly and to obtain maximum performance, install the unit in a location with the
following conditions:
A location not subjected to direct sunlight
Do not install the unit under direct sunlight. Installation in a location subjected to direct sunlight cannot
obtain the intended performance.
A location with adequate ventilation
Leave at least 10 cm around the unit for ventilation. Poor ventilation will result in a reduction of the
performance and consequently the failure.
A location away from heat generating sources
Avoid installing the unit near heat-emitting appliances such as a heater or a boiler etc. Heat can
decrease the intended performance of the unit.
A location with little temperature change
Install the unit under stable ambient temperature. The allowable ambient temperature is between 5oC
and 30oC.
A location with a sturdy and level floor
Always install the unit on a sturdy and level floor. The uneven floor or tilted installation may cause failure
or injury. Install the unit in stable condition to avoid the vibration or noise. Unstable condition may
cause vibration or noise.
WARNING
Install the unit on a sturdy floor. If the floor is not strong enough or the installation site is not
adequate, this may result in injury from the unit falling or tipping over.
Select a level and sturdy floor for installation. This precaution will prevent the unit from tipping.
Improper installation may result in water spillage or injury from the unit tipping over.
A location not prone to high humidity
Install the unit in the ambient of 80%R.H. or less humidity. Installation under high humidity may cause
current leakage or electric shock.
WARNING
Do not use the unit outdoors. Current leakage or electric shock may result if the unit is exposed to
rain water.
Never install the unit in a humid place or a place where it is likely to be splashed by water.
Deterioration of the insulation may result which could cause current leakage or electric shock.
A location without flammable or corrosive gas
Never install the unit in a flammable or corrosive location. This may cause explosion or fire or may result
in the current leakage or electric shock by the corrosion of the electrical components.

INSTALLATION
When installing the unit, follow the steps below to secure the unit properly, and also be absolutely sure to
connect the unit to ground.
In addition, install a ground fault circuit breaker (on the unit’s power supply side) which is mandatory
under the applicable laws and regulations.
1. Preparation after unpackaging
Remove all the tapes used to secure the doors and interior parts, and leave the doors open for a short
while for ventilation.
If any surfaces of the outer cabinet are dirty, wipe off the dirt using a cloth moistened with a diluted
neutral dish-washing detergent.
Using an undiluted solution of a neutral dish-washing detergent may cause the unit’s plastic areas to
crack. Follow the directions of the neutral dish-washing detergent for the dilution details.
After removing the dirt using the diluted neutral dish-washing detergent, be absolutely sure to wipe the
surfaces with a cloth dipped in clean water to remove the traces of the neutral dish-washing detergent.
After this, be absolutely sure to wipe the surfaces with a dry cloth, allow the surfaces of the outer cabinet
to dry out, and then proceed with the installation.
Note:
Remove the cable tie banding the power supply cord. Prolonged banding may cause the corrosion of
the cord coating.
2. Securing and leveling the unit using the leveling feet
Rotate the front leveling feet clockwise until the casters are
raised 5 to 10 mm from the surface of the floor. (Fig. 1)
When the casters are raised from the surface of the floor,
the unit is secured. If they are left touching the floor, the
unit may inadvertently move out of position when its doors
are opened or closed.
In addition, rotate the leveling feet slightly clockwise or
counterclockwise, and adjust them so that the unit is level
between the left and right.
3. Securing the unit using the fixture
Use the fixtures on the rear panel of the unit, and secure
the unit to a wall with a strong rope or chain available on
the market. (Fig. 2)

4. Preventing electric shock by connecting the unit to ground
When installing the unit, be absolutely sure to connect it to ground. Grounding is necessary to prevent
the electric shock which will arise when the electrical insulation has deteriorated.
WARNING
Use a power supply outlet with ground (earth) to prevent electric shock. If the power supply outlet
is not grounded, it is necessary to install a ground by qualified engineers.
Never ground the unit through a gas pipe, water main, telephone line or lightning rod. Such
grounding may cause electric shock in the case of an incomplete circuit.

START-UP PROCEDURE
To commence the operation (initially or after temporary power off due to the cleaning, maintenance, etc.),
follow the procedure below:
The operation is resumed automatically at the recovery from power failure with the setting before power
failure [page 27].
1. Connect the power supply cord to the dedicated power source with the chamber empty.
2. Turn on the power switch.
►At the power on, the alarm indicator blinks and the blinking chamber temperature is displayed. (This is
not a malfunction.)
The blink of alarm indicator and the chamber temperature will stop when the chamber temperature goes
down around the chamber set temperature [Initial setting (factory setting): -40oC].
3. Turn on the battery switch.
4. Set the desired chamber temperature [page 20].
The factory setting of chamber temperature is -40oC.
5. On the temperature display, check the chamber temperature reaches the set temperature.
Allow the chamber temperature to fall to the set temperature when the start-up after cleaning,
maintenance or moving.
6. Put the material in the chamber gradually.
Putting a large amount of material in the chamber at a time causes the temperature rise.
7. As needed, set the alarm temperature [page 22 to 23], lock of chamber temperature setting [page 21],
door alarm delay [page 24],buzzer suspended period [page 25], and compressor start delay [page 26].

SETTING OF CHAMBER TEMPERATURE
Set the chamber temperature as needed to keep the material at appropriate temperature for long period
of time.
 Setting range of chamber temperature: between -45oC and-18oC
 Initial setting (factory setting): -40oC
<Important>
The setting range of chamber temperature is between -45oC and -18oC, however the guaranteed
chamber temperature with no load is -40oC when the ambient temperature is 30oC.
Example: Change the setting of chamber temperature to -25oC from -40oC
►Following is an example. Operate the key according to the desired chamber temperature.

without any key operation (auto-return function). In this case, the setting is not accepted.
