1. Package Contents
Thank you for purchasing PLANET Industrial L3 Managed Ethernet Switch.
“Industrial Managed Switch” is used as an alternative name in this Quick
InstallationGuide.
Open the box of the Industrial Managed Switch and carefully unpack it. The box
shouldcontainthefollowingitems:

2. Requirements
The Industrial Managed Switch provides remote login interface for management
purposes.Thefollowingequipmentisnecessaryforfurthermanagement:
zWorkstations running Windows 10/XP/2003/Vista/7/8/2008, MAC OS X or later,
Linux,UNIX,orotherplatformsarecompatiblewithTCP/IPProtocols.
zWorkstationsareinstalledwithEthernetNIC(NetworkInterfaceCard)
zSerialPortConnection(Terminal)
 The above Workstations come with COM Port (DB9) or USB-to-RS232
converter.
 The above Workstations have been installed with terminal emulator, such as
HyperTerminalincludedinWindowsXP/2003,puttyorTeraTerm.
 Serial cable -- one end is attached to the RS232 serial port, while the other
endtotheconsoleportoftheIndustrialManagedSwitch.
zEthernetPortConnection
 Networkcables--Usestandardnetwork(UTP)cableswithRJ45connectors.
 The above PC is installed with Web browser and JAVA runtime environment
plug-in.
Note
It is recommended to use Internet Explore 8.0 or above to access
the Industrial Managed Switch. If the Web interface of the Indus-
trialManagedSwitchisnot accessible,pleaseturnoff theanti-virus
softwareorfirewallandthentryitagain.

3. Wiring DC Power Inputs
The 6-contact terminal block connector on the panel of Industrial Managed Switch
isused for two DCredundant powers input. Please follow the steps below to insert
the power wires.
1.Insert positive/negative DC power wires into contacts 1 and 2 for DC POWER 1,
or5and6forDCPOWER2.

The wire gauge for the terminal block should be in the range
between12and24AWG.

4. Terminal Setup
Tocongure the system,connecta serialcable toaCOMport onaPCor notebook
computerandtoRJ45typeofserialportoftheIndustrialManagedSwitch.

A terminal program is required to make the software connection to the Industrial
ManagedSwitch.
1. Run terminal program on the OS.
2.When the following screen appears, make sure that the COM port should be
conguredas:
Baud:115200
Databits:8
Parity:None
Stopbits:1
Flowcontrol:None

4.1. Logging on to Console
Once the terminal is connected to the device, power on the Industrial Managed
Switchandtheterminalwilldisplay“runningtestingprocedures”.
Then, the following message asks to log in user name and password. The factory
default user name and password are shown as follows and the login screen in
Figure4-3appears.

The user can now enter commands to manage the Industrial Managed Switch. For
adetaileddescriptionofthecommands,pleaserefertothefollowingchapters.
Note
1.For security reason, please change and memorize the new pass-
wordafterthisfirstsetup.
2.Only accept command in lowercase letter under console inter-
face.

TheIndustrialManagedSwitchisshippedwithdefaultIPaddressshownbelow.

To check the current IP address or modify a new IP address for the Switch, please
usetheproceduresasfollows:

1.Atthe“#”prompt,enter“show ip interface brief”.

3.At the “#” prompt, enter the following command and press <Enter> as shown
inFigure4-5.

The previous command would apply the following settings for the Industrial
ManagedSwitch.

If the IP is successfully congured, the Industrial Managed Switch will apply the
new IP address setting immediately. You can access the Web interface of the
IndustrialManagedSwitchthroughthenewIPaddress.
Note
If you are not familiar with the console command or the related
parameter,enter “help” anytimein consoletogetthe helpdescrip-
tion.

5. Starting Web Management
The following shows how to start up the Web Management of the Industrial
Managed Switch. Note the Industrial Managed Switch is congured through an
Ethernet connection. Please make sure the manager PC must be set to the same
IP subnet address.
For example, the default IP address of the Industrial Managed Switch is
192.168.0.100, then the manager PC should be set to 192.168.0.x (where x
is a number between 1 and 254, except 100), and the default subnet mask is
255.255.255.0.

5.1 Logging in to the Industrial Managed Switch
1.Use Internet Explorer 8.0 or above Web browser and enter IP address
http://192.168.0.100(thefactorydefaultIPaddressortheonethatyouhave
justchangedinconsole)toaccesstheWebinterface.
2.When the following dialog box appears, please enter the default user name and
password “admin” (or the password you have changed via console). The login
screeninFigure5-2appears.

The Switch Main Menu is shown on top of the Web page, and the functions are
shownonthelefttoconguretheIndustrialManagedSwitch.

Now, you can use the Web management interface to continue the Switch
management or manage the Switch by console interface. Please refer to the user’s
manualformore.
Note
If you are not familiar with Switch functions or the related param-
eter, press “Help icon” anytime on the Web page to get the help
description.

5.2.SavingCongurationviaWeb
In the Industrial Managed Switch, the running conguration stores in the RAM. In
the current version, the running conguration sequence of running-cong can be
saved from the RAM to FLASH by executing save startup cong command, so that
the running conguration sequence becomes the startup conguration le, which is
calledcongurationsave.
To save all applied changes and set the current conguration as a startup
conguration, the startup-conguration le will be loaded automatically across a
system reboot.
1. Click Maintenance > Switch Maintenance > Save Startup Cong.

2. Or you can press the “Save Conguration” button.

6.RecoveringBacktoDefaultConguration
IP address has been changed or admin password has been
forgotten –
To reset the IP address to the default IP address “192.168.0.100” or reset the
login password to default value, press the hardware reset button on the rear
panel for about 10 seconds. After the device is rebooted, you can log in the
managementWebinterfacewithinthesamesubnetof192.168.0.xx.
