Broadbandrouteris acost-effectiveIP SharingRouterthat enables multiple users tosharethe
Internet through ADSLor cablemodems.Simplyconfigure your Internet connection settingsin
XRT-Dand plug yourPCtothe LANport and you're readyto share filesand access theInternet.
The XRT-402D/104Dsmulti-homingfunctioncancombinetwo/fourWANlines intoone virtual
highbandwidthWANline,andlet yougetabetterInternetsurfingexperience.As your network
grows, you canconnectanother hub or switch totherouter sLANports, allowingyou to easily
expandyour network. XRT-D providesatotalsolution fortheSmall and Medium-sizedBusiness
(SMB)and the SmallOffice/Home Office (SOHO)markets, givingyou aninstant networktoday,

1)Local Area Network(LAN)
XRT-DsLANports arewhere you connect your LAN sPCs, printerservers, hubsand switches
etc.
2)Wide AreaNetwork (WAN)
The WAN ports are the segmentconnected toyourxDSLor Cablemodem and are linked tothe
Internet.
3)Reset
TheReset buttonallows youto do oneof two things.
1)If problems occur with your router, press therouter sreset button with apencil tip (for
less than 7seconds)andthe routerwill re-boot itself, keepingyour original
configurations.
2)If problems persist or you experience extremeproblems or you forgot your password,
press theresetbutton forlongerthan 7seconds andtherouterwillreset itself tothe
factorydefaultsettings. (warning:your originalconfigurations willbe replacedwith
the factorydefault settings)

1.6 Getting started
This is astep-by-stepinstruction onhowto start usingtherouter andget connected to the
Internet.
1)Setup your network as shown inthesetupdiagram above (fig1.2).

2)You then need tosetyourLANPCclientssothatit can obtainan IPaddress automatically.
AllLAN clients requireanIPaddress. Just likean address, itallows LAN clients tofindone
another.
Configure your PC toobtain an IPaddress automatically
BydefaultXRT-D sDHCP ison, thismeans that you can obtainan IP address automatically
once youve configured yourPC toobtain an IP address automatically.Thissectionwill show
youhowto configure yourPCsothatitcanobtainan IP address automaticallyfor either
Windows 95/98/Me, 2000 or NToperating systems.
For other operating systems (Macintosh, Sun, etc.),please followthe manufacturer s
instructions. Thefollowing isastep-by-step illustrationon howtoconfigure yourPC toobtain
anIPaddress automaticallyfor 2a) Windows95/98/Me,2b) WindowsXP,2c) Windows
2000 and2d) WindowsNT.
2a)Windows95/98/Me
1:Clickthe Start buttonandselect Settings, then click Control Panel. The Control Panel
window willappear.
2:Double-click Network icon. The Network window will appear.
3:Check your listof NetworkComponents. If TCP/IP is not installed,click the Add button to
install itnow.If TCP/IP is installed, go to step 6.
4:Inthe Network ComponentType dialog box, select Protocol andclick Add button.
5:Inthe Select Network Protocol dialog box, select Microsoft and TCP/IP and then click the
OK buttontostart installing the TCP/IP protocol.You mayneed your WindowsCD to
complete theinstallation.
6:After installingTCP/IP, go back tothe Network dialog box. Select TCP/IP from the list of
Network Components and then click the Properties button.
7:Check each of thetabs andverifythe followingsettings:
• Bindings:Check Client forMicrosoft Networks and File and printer sharing for
Microsoft Networks.
• Gateway: All fields are blank.
• DNSConfiguration:Select DisableDNS.
• WINS Configuration:Select DisableWINS Resolution.
• IP Address:Select Obtain IP address automatically.

8:Reboot thePC. YourPC willnow obtain an IPaddress automaticallyfrom your
BroadbandRouter s DHCP server.
?Note: Please make surethat XRT-D sDHCPserveristhe onlyDHCP server
available on yourLAN.
Onceyou veconfiguredyour PC to obtain anIP address automatically, please proceedto
Step3
2b) Windows XP
1:Clickthe Start buttonandselect Settings, then click Network Connections. The Network
Connections windowwillappear.
2:Double-click LocalArea Connection icon. The LocalArea Connection windowwillappear.
3:Check your listof NetworkComponents. You shouldsee Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] on
your list. Select itandclick the Properties button.
4:Inthe Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, select ObtainanIP address
automatically and Obtain DNS serveraddress automatically as shown on the following
screen.

5:Click OK to confirm the setting. Your PC willnowobtain an IP address automatically
from yourBroadbandRouter sDHCPserver.
?Note: Please make surethat XRT-D sDHCPserveristh
eonlyDHCP server
available on yourLAN.
Onceyou veconfiguredyour PC to obtain anIP address automatically, please proceedto
Step3.
2c)Windows2000
1:Clickthe Start buttonandselect Settings, then click Control Panel. The Control Panel
window willappear.
2:Double-click Networkand Dial-upConnections icon. In the Networkand Dial-up
Connection window,double-click Local AreaConnection icon. The Local Area
Connection windowwillappear.
3:Inthe Local AreaConnection window, click the Properties button.
4:Check your listof NetworkComponents. You shouldsee Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] on
your list. Select itand click the Properties button.
5:Inthe Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, select ObtainanIP address
automatically and ObtainDNSserver address automatically asshownon thefollowing
screen.

6:Click OK to confirm the setting. Your PC willnowobtain an IP address automatically
from yourBroadbandRouter sDHCPserver.
?Note: Please make surethat XRT-D
sDHCPserveristhe onlyDHCP server
available on yourLAN.
Onceyou veconfiguredyour PC to obtain anIP address automatically, please proceedto
Step3.
2d) Windows NT
1:Clickthe Start buttonandselect Settings, then click Control Panel. The Control Panel
window willappear.
2:Double-click Network icon. The Network window will appear. Select the Protocol tab from
the Network window.
3:Check if the TCP/IP Protocol is on your list of Network Protocols. If TCP/IPis not
installed, click the Add buttontoinstall it now.If TCP/IP is installed, goto step 5.
4:Inthe Select Network Protocol window,select the TCP/IP Protocol and click the Ok
button tostart installingthe TCP/IP protocol. Youmayneed your WindowsCD to
complete the installation.
5:After youinstallTCP/IP, go back to the Network window.Select TCP/IP from the list of
Network Protocols and then click the Properties button.

6:Check each of thetabs andverifythe followingsettings:
• IP Address: Select ObtainanIP address from a DHCPserver.
• DNS: Letall fields are blank.
• WINS: Let all fields are blank.
• Routing: Let allfieldsareblank.
7:Click OK to confirm the setting. Your PC will nowobtain an IP address automatically
fromyour BroadbandRouter sDHCP server.
?Note: Please make surethat XRT-D
sDHCPserveristhe onlyDHCP server
available on yourLAN.
Onceyou veconfiguredyour PC to obtain anIP address automatically, please proceedto
Step3.
3)Onceyou have configured your PCs to obtain an IPaddress automatically,the router s DHCP
serverwill automaticallygive yourLAN clients an IP address. Bydefault XRT-D s DHCP
serverisenabled so that youcan obtainanIP address automatically. To seeif you have
obtained an IPaddress, see AppendixA.
Note:Please make sure that XRT-D sDHCP serveris the onlyDHCPserver available on
your LAN.If thereis another DHCP on your network, then you llneed toswitchoneof the
DHCPservers off.(To disableXRT-D sDHCPserverpleasereferto chapter 2 LAN Port)

4)Onceyour PC has obtainedanIPaddress from your router, enterthedefault IP address
(broadbandrouter sIPaddress 192.168.0.1)into your PC s web browser and press <enter>
5)The login screenbelow willappear. Enterthe “UserName”and “Password”and then click
<OK> tologin.
Note: Bydefaultthe username is “admin”and the password is “1234”.For security
reasons it is recommendedthat you change the password as soonaspossible (in
General setup/system/password, see chapter 2)
6)The HOME pagescreen belowwillappear. The Home Pageis divided into four sections,
Quick Setup Wizard, General Setup, Status Information and Tools.

your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
General Setup (Chapter 3) This section contains configurations fortheXRT-
Dsadvancefunctions suchas: PortForwarding,
VirtualServer, Access Control,DoS, DMZ,
SpecialApplications andotherfunctions tomeet
your LANrequirements.
Status Information (Chapter 4) In thissection you can see XRT-D'ssystem
information, InternetConnection, DeviceStatus,
SecurityLogand DHCPclient Log information.
Tools (Chapter5) This section containXRT-D sTools-Tools
include Configurationtools, Firmware upgrade
and Reset.Configurationtools allowyouto
Backup(save), Restore,orRestore to Factory
DefaultconfigurationforyourBroadbandrouter.
The Firmwareupgrade toolallowsyouto
upgrade your Broadband router's firmware. The
RESET toolallowsyouto reset your Broadband
router.
7)Click on QuickSetupWizard (see chapter 2)tostartconfiguring settings required so that
youcan start accessingthe Internet. The other sections (General Setup,Status Information
and Tools) donot need tobe configuredunless youwish to implement/monitormore advance
features/information.
Select thesection (Quick Setup Wizard,GeneralSetup,Status Information andTools)youwish
toconfigure and proceedtothecorresponding chapter. Usethe selections ontheweb
management stop right hand pageto navigate around theweb-based managementUser
Interface.

Chapter2QuickSetup
The Quick Setupsectionisdesignedto get you using XRT-D asquicklyas possible. In the Quick
Setup you are requiredto fillin onlythe informationnecessarytoaccess the Internet.Once you
click onthe Quick Setup Wizard in theHOME page,youshouldsee thescreen below.
Step 1) Time Zone
The Time Zoneallows yourroutertobase its time on thesettings configured here, this willaffect
functions such as Logentries and Firewallsettings.
Parameter Description
Set TimeZone Selectthe time zoneof the countryyouare currentlyin.
The router will set its time based on your selection.
Time Server Address You can manuallyassigntimeserver address ifthe
default time server isnot workable.
EnableDaylight Savings The router canalsotake Daylight savings intoaccount. If
youwish to use this function, you mustcheck/tick the
enablebox toenableyour daylightsavingconfiguration
(below).
StartDaylight Savings Time Selecttheperiod in whichyou wishto startdaylight
Savings Time.
End Daylight Savings Time Select the period in whichyouwish toend daylight
Savings Time.
Click on NEXT to proceed to the next page (step 2)Broadband Type.

In this sectionyou have to selectoneof manytypes of connections that youused toconnect your
broadband routertoyour ISP (see screen below).

2.2 Fixed-IPxDSL Your ISP has given you anIP address already.
2.3 PPPoE Your ISPrequires you to use aPoint-to-PointProtocolover
Ethernet (PPPoE) connection.
2.4 PPTP Your ISPrequires you touse aPoint-to-Point Tunneling Protocol
(PPTP)connection.
2.5L2TP Layer 2Tunneling Protocolis acommon connection method used
in xDSL connections.
2.6 TelstraBig PondTelstraBigPondisanInternet serviceis providedin Australia.
Click on oneof theWANtypeand then proceed to themanualsrelevantsub-section(2.1, 2.2,
2.3, 2.4, 2.5or 2.6). Click on Back to returntothe previous screen.

2.1 Cable Modem
Choose Cable Modemifyour ISPwillautomaticallygive youanIPaddress. Some ISPmayalso
require youtofillin additionalinformationsuchasHost Name andMAC address (see screen
below).
?Note: The Host Nameand MAC address sectionis optional and you canskip it
ifyour
ISP does not require these settings for youto connect to theInternet.
Parameters Description
Host Name If your ISPrequiresaHost Name, typeinthehost name
provided byyour ISP,otherwiseleaveitblank.
MAC Address Your ISPmayrequire aparticular MACaddress inorder for you
toconnect totheInternet. ThisMACaddress isthePC sMAC
address thatyour ISPhadoriginallyconnected your Internet
connection to.Typeinthis MACaddress inthissectionor use
the “Clone MACAddress”button toreplacetheWANMAC
address with theMACaddress of that PC(you have to beusing
that PC for the CloneMACAddress button to work). To find out
the PC sMAC address seeAppendixA. (see Glossaryforan
explanationonMAC address)
Click <OK> whenyou have finished theconfigurationabove. Congratulations!You have
completedtheconfigurationfortheCableModem connection. Youcan start usingtherouternow,
ifyouwishto usesome of theadvancefeatures supportedby thisrouter see chapter 3, 4, 5.

2.2 Fixed-IP xDSL
SelectStaticIPAddress if your ISPhas given you a specific IPaddress foryou to use. YourISP
should provideallthe information requiredin this section.
Parameters Description
IP The IPaddress that your ISP has given you.
SubnetMask Enter theSubnet Mask provided byyour ISP.
(e.g. 255.255.255.0)
GatewayIP The gatewayprovided byyour ISP.
DNS The DNSserver IP address that yourISPprovides to
you.
Click <OK> whenyou have finished theconfigurationabove. Congratulations!You have
completedthe configurationfortheFixed-IPxDSLconnection. You can start using the routernow,
ifyouwishto usesome of theadvancefeatures supportedby thisrouter see chapter 3, 4, 5.

2.3 PPPoE
SelectPPPoE if your ISP requiresthePPPoE protocoltoconnect you to the Internet.Your ISP
should provideallthe information requiredin this section.
Parameter Description
User NameThe UserName provided byyour ISP for PPPoE connection.
PasswordThe Password providedbyyour ISPforPPPoEconnection.
ServiceName[Optional] The Service nameshouldyour ISPrequires it,
otherwise leaveitblank.
MTU This is optional. You can specifythemaximumsizeof your
transmissionpacket tothe Internet. Leave it as itis if you do not
wishto set amaximum packet size.
ConnectionTypeIf you select “Continuous”,the routerwillalways connect tothe
ISP.If theWANline breaksdownandlinks again,the router will
auto-reconnect tothe ISP.
If youselect “ConnectOn Demand”, therouterwillauto-connect
to the ISPwhensomeonewanttouse the Internet and keep
connecteduntiltheWANidletimeout.Therouterwillclose the
WANconnection if the timeperiod that nooneis using the
Internet exceeds the “Idle Time”.
If you select “Manual”,the routerwillconnect toISPonlywhen
youclick “Connect”manuallyfrom theWebuserinterface.The
WANconnectionwillnot bedisconnected due totheidletimeout.
If the WANline breaksdownandlatterlinks again, the routerwill
notauto-connect to the ISP.
IdleTimeYou canspecifyan idletime threshold(minutes)forthe WAN
port. This means if no packetshavebeen sent(no oneusingthe
