SAFETY
WARNING! Do not operate your new power chair for the first time without completely
reading and understanding this owners manual.
Your power chair is a state-of-the-art life-e ha ceme t device desig ed to i crease mobility. Pride provides a
exte sive variety of products to best fit the i dividual eeds of the power chair user. Please be aware that the fi al
selectio a d purchasi g decisio regardi g the type of power chair to be used is the respo sibility of the power
chair user, who is capable of maki g such a decisio , a d his/her healthcare professio al (i.e., medical doctor,
physical therapist, etc.).
The co te ts of this ma ual are based o the expectatio that a mobility device expert has properly fitted the power
chair to the user a d has assisted the prescribi g healthcare professio al a d/or the authorised Pride provider i the
i structio process for the use of the product.
There are certai situatio s, i cludi g some medical co ditio s, where the power chair user will eed to practice
operati g the power chair i the prese ce of a trai ed atte da t. A trai ed atte da t ca be defi ed as a family
member or care professio al specially trai ed i assisti g a power chair user i various daily livi g activities.
As you begi usi g your power chair duri g daily activities, you will probably e cou ter situatio s i which you will
eed some practice. Simply take your time a d you will soo be i full a d co fide t co trol as you ma euver
through doorways, o a d off of elevators, up a d dow ramps, a d over moderate terrai .
Below are some precautio s, tips, a d other safety co sideratio s that will help the user become accustomed to
operati g the power chair safely.
Modifications
Pride has desig ed a d e gi eered your power chair to provide maximum mobility a d utility. A wide ra ge of
accessories is available from your authorised Pride provider to further customise your power chair to better suit
your eeds a d/or prefere ces. However, u der o circumsta ces should you modify, add, remove, or disable a y
feature, part, or fu ctio of your power chair.
WARNING! Do not modify your power chair in any way not authorised by Pride. Unauthorised
modifications may result in personal injury and/or damage to your power chair.
Pre-Ride Safety Check
Get to k ow the feel of your power chair a d its capabilities. Pride recomme ds that you perform a safety check
before each use to make sure your power chair operates smoothly a d safely.
Perform the followi g i spectio s prior to usi g your power chair:
nCheck for proper tyre i flatio . Mai tai 2-2.4 bar (30-35 psi) i each tyre (if equipped with p eumatic tyres).
nCheck all electrical co ectio s. Make sure they are tight a d ot corroded.
nCheck all co troller co ectio s to the electro ics tray. Make sure they are secured properly.
nCheck the brakes. See VII. Care a d Mai te a ce.
nCheck battery charge. See V. Batteries a d Chargi g.

Weight Limitations
Your power chair is rated for a maximum weight capacity. Please refer to the specificatio s table for this limit.
WARNING! Exceeding the weight capacity voids your warranty and may result in personal
injury and/or damage to your power chair. Pride will not be held responsible for injuries
and/or property damage resulting from failure to observe weight limitations.
WARNING! Do not carry passengers on your power chair. Carrying passengers on your
power chair may result in personal injury and/or property damage.
Tyre Inflation
If your power chair is equipped with p eumatic tyres, you should check or have the air pressure checked at least
o ce a week. Proper i flatio pressures will prolo g the life of your tyres a d help e sure the smooth operatio of
your power chair.
WARNING! It is important that 2-2.4 bar (30-35 psi) tyre pressure be maintained in pneu-
matic tyres at all times. Do not underinflate or overinflate your tyres. Low pressure may
result in loss of control, and overinflated tyres may burst. Failure to maintain 2-2.4 bar (30-
35 psi) tyre pressure in pneumatic tyres at all times may result in tyre and/or wheel failure,
causing serious personal injury and/or damage to your power chair.
WARNING! Inflate your power chair drive tyres from a regulated air source with an avail-
able pressure gauge. Inflating your tyres from an unregulated air source could overinflate
them, resulting in a burst tyre and/or personal injury.
Incline Information
More a d more buildi gs have ramps with specified degrees of i cli atio , desig ed for easy a d safe access.
Some ramps may have tur i g switchbacks (180-degree tur s) that require you to have good cor eri g skills o
your power chair.
nProceed with extreme cautio as you approach the dow grade of a ramp or other i cli e.
nTake wide swi gs with your power chairs fro t wheels arou d a y tight cor ers. If you do that, the power
chairs rear wheels will follow a wide arc, ot cut the cor er short, a d ot bump i to or get hu g up o a y
raili g cor ers.
nWhe drivi g dow a ramp, keep the power chairs speed adjustme t set to the slowest speed setti g to
e sure a safely co trolled desce t.
nAvoid sudde stops a d starts.
Whe climbi g a i cli e, try to keep your power chair movi g. If you must stop, start up agai slowly a d the
accelerate cautiously. Whe drivi g dow a i cli e, set your power chair to the slowest setti g a d drive i the
forward directio o ly. If your power chair starts to move dow the i cli e faster tha you a ticipated or desired,
allow it to come to a complete stop by releasi g the joystick, the push the joystick forward slightly to e sure a
safely co trolled desce t.

WARNING! When climbing an incline, do not zigzag or drive at an angle up the face of the
incline. Drive your power chair straight up the incline. his greatly reduces the possibility
of a tip or a fall. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! You should not travel up or down a potentially hazardous incline (i.e., areas
covered with snow, ice, cut grass, or wet leaves).
WARNING! When on any sort of an incline or decline, never place the power chair in
freewheel mode while seated on it or standing next to it. Doing so may result in personal
injury and/or damage to your power chair.
WARNING! Never travel down an incline rearwards. his may result in personal injury.
WARNING! Even though your power chair is capable of climbing slopes greater than those
illustrated in figure 1, do not, under any circumstances, exceed the incline guidelines or any other
specifications presented in this manual. Doing so could cause instability in your power chair,
resulting in personal injury and/or damage to your power chair.
Pride recomme ds that the maximum slope of a i cli e you attempt to safely asce d or desce d o your power
chair does ot exceed 8.7%. See figure 1.
WARNING! Any attempt to climb or descend a slope steeper than 8.7% may put your
power chair in an unstable position and cause it to tip, resulting in personal injury.

Your power chair is equipped with two powerful brake systems:
1. Rege erative  uses electricity to rapidly slow the vehicle whe the joystick retur s to the ce ter/stop positio .
2. Disc Park Brake  activates mecha ically after rege erative braki g slows the vehicle to ear stop, or whe
power is removed from the system for a y reaso .
Cornering Information
While your power chair is equipped with rear caster wheels i back a d a ti-tip wheels i fro t, excessively high
cor eri g speeds ca still create the possibility of tippi g. Factors which affect the possibility of tippi g i clude, but
are ot limited to: cor eri g speed, steeri g a gle (how sharply you are tur i g), u eve road surfaces, i cli ed
road surfaces, ridi g from a area of low tractio to a area of high tractio (such as passi g from a grassy area to
a paved area  especially at high speed while tur i g), a d abrupt directio al cha ges. High cor eri g speeds are
ot recomme ded. If you feel that you may tip over i a cor er, reduce your speed a d steeri g a gle (i.e., lesse
the sharp ess of the tur ) to preve t your power chair from tippi g.

WARNING! When cornering sharply, reduce your speed. his greatly reduces the possibil-
ity of a tip or fall. o avoid personal injury and/or property damage, always exercise com-
mon sense when cornering.
utdoor Driving Surfaces
Your power chair is desig ed to provide optimum stability u der ormal drivi g co ditio sdry, level surfaces
composed of co crete, blacktop, or asphalt. However, Pride recog ises that there will be times whe you will
e cou ter other surface types. For this reaso , your power chair is desig ed to perform admirably o packed soil,
grass, a d gravel. Feel free to use your power chair safely o law s a d i park areas.
nReduce your power chairs speed whe drivi g o u eve terrai a d/or soft surfaces.
nAvoid tall grass that ca e ta gle the ru i g gear.
nAvoid loosely packed gravel a d sa d.
nIf you feel u sure about a drivi g surface, avoid that surface.
Freewheel Mode
Your power chair is equipped with a ma ual freewheel lever to allow for ma ual ma euverability by a trai ed
atte da t. For more i formatio about how to place your power chair i to a d out of freewheel mode, see III.
Your Power Chair.
WARNING! Do not use your power chair in freewheel mode without an attendant present.
Personal injury may result.
WARNING! Do not attempt to personally place your power chair in freewheel mode while
seated on it. Personal injury may result. Ask an attendant for assistance if necessary.
WARNING! Do not place your power chair in freewheel mode while on an incline. he
chair could roll uncontrollably on its own, causing personal injury.
Stationary bstacles (Steps, Kerbs, etc.)
Proceed with extreme cautio whe drivi g ear raised surfaces, u protected ledges a d/or drop-offs (kerbs,
porches, stairs, etc.). The correct method for approachi g a kerb is illustrated i figure 1a.

WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair climb or descend an obstacle that is
higher than 2.54 cm unless you have the assistance of an attendant.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair proceed rearward down any step,
kerb, or other obstacle. his may cause the power chair to tip and cause personal injury.

Public Streets and Roadways
WARNING! You should not operate your power chair on public streets and roadways. Be
aware that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your power
chair. Obey all local pedestrian traffic rules. Wait until your path is clear of traffic, and
then proceed with extreme caution.
Stairs and Escalators
Power chairs are ot desig ed to travel up or dow stairs or escalators. Always use a elevator.
WARNING! Never use your power chair to negotiate steps or escalators. You may cause
injury to yourself and to others and/or damage your power chair.
Doors
nDetermi e if the door ope s toward or away from you.
nDrive your power chair ge tly a d slowly forward to push the door ope . Or drive your power chair ge tly
a d slowly rearward to pull the door ope .
Elevators
Moder elevators have a door edge safety mecha ism that, whe pushed, reope s the elevator door(s).
nIf you are i the doorway of a elevator whe the door(s) begi to close, push o the rubber door edge or
allow the rubber door edge to co tact the power chair a d the door will reope .
nUse care that pocketbooks, packages, or power chair accessories do ot become caught i elevator doors.
EMI & RFI
Laboratory tests performed have show that radio waves ca cause u i te ded motio of electric mobility ve-
hicles. Radio waves are a form of electromag etic e ergy (EM). Whe EM adversely affects the operatio of a
electro ic device, it is called Electromag etic I terfere ce (EMI) or Radio Freque cy I terfere ce (RFI).
Lift/Elevation Products
If you will be traveli g with your power chair, you may fi d it ecessary to use a lift/elevatio product to aid i
tra sportatio . Pride recomme ds that you closely review the i structio s, specificatio s, a d safety i formatio
set forth by the ma ufacturer of the lift/elevatio product before usi g that product.
Motor Vehicle Transport
Curre tly, there are o sta dards approved for tie-dow systems i a movi g vehicle of a y type to tra sport a
perso while seated i a power chair.
Transfers
Tra sferri g o to a d off of your power chair requires a good se se of bala ce. Always have a atte da t or
healthcare professio al prese t while lear i g to properly tra sfer yourself.
To elimi ate the possibility of i jury, Pride recomme ds that you or a trai ed atte da t perform the followi g tasks
before attempti g a tra sfer:
nTur the power off.
nE sure your power chair is ot i freewheel mode. See III. Your Power Chair.
nTur both caster wheels toward the tra sfer desti atio to improve power chair stability duri g tra sfer.
nMake sure both armrests are flipped up or removed from your power chair.
