Cornering Information
While your power chair is equipped with caster wheels in back and anti-tip wheels in front, excessively high
corneringspeedscanstillcreatethepossibilityoftipping.Factorswhichaffectthepossibilityoftippinginclude,but
arenotlimitedto: cornering speed,steeringangle(howsharply you are turning),unevenroadsurfaces,inclined
roadsurfaces,ridingfromanareaoflowtractiontoanareaofhightraction(suchaspassingfromagrassyareato
apavedarea–especiallyathighspeedwhileturning),andabruptdirectionalchanges.Highcorneringspeedsare
notrecommended.Ifyoufeelthatyou may tip over inacorner,reduceyour speed and steering angle(i.e.,lessen
thesharpnessoftheturn)to prevent your power chairfromtipping.
WARNING! When cornering sharply, reduce your speed. This greatly reduces the possibility
of a tip or fall. To avoid personal injury and/or property damage, always exercise common
sense when cornering.
Outdoor Driving Surfaces
Yourpowerchairisdesignedtoprovideoptimumstabilityundernormaldrivingconditions—dry,levelsurfaces
composedof concrete,blacktop, ortarmac. However, Pride recognizes thatthere willbe timeswhen you will
encounterothersurfacetypes.Forthisreason,yourpowerchairisdesignedtoperformadmirablyonpackedsoil,
grass,and gravel. Feelfreeto use yourpowerchair safely onlawnsand inparkareas.
Reduceyourpowerchair’s speed when driving onuneventerrainand/orsoftsurfaces.
Avoid tall grass that can entangle the running gear.
Avoid loosely packed gravel and sand.
If you feel unsure about a driving surface, avoid that surface.
Freewheel Mode
Your power chair is equipped with a manual freewheel lever system to allow for manual maneuverability
by a trained attendant. For more information about how to place your power chair into and out of freewheel
mode, see III. “Your Power Chair.”
WARNING! Do not use your power chair in freewheel mode without an attendant present.
Personal injury may result.
WARNING! Do not attempt to personally place your power chair in freewheel mode while
seated on it. Personal injury may result. Ask an attendant for assistance if necessary.
WARNING! Do not place your power chair in freewheel mode while on an incline. The chair
could roll uncontrollably on its own, causing personal injury.
Stationary Obstacles (Steps, Kerbs, etc.)
Proceedwith extremecaution whendriving nearraised surfaces,unprotected ledges and/or drop-offs (kerbs,
porches,stairs,etc.). The correct methodforapproachingakerb is illustratedinfigure2.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair climb or descend an obstacle that is
higher than 5 cm unless you have the assistance of an attendant.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair proceed rearward down any step,
kerb, or other obstacle. This may cause the power chair to tip and cause personal injury.
