withtheconveniencesyouexpectduringyourdaily activities. Once you understand how tosafelyoperate and care for
yourpower chair,it should give youyearsoftrouble free operation andservice.
Readandfollowallinstructions,warnings,and notesinthismanualbeforeattemptingto operateyourpowerchairforthe
firsttime.Youmust alsoreadallinstructions,warnings,andnotescontainedinanysupplementalinstructionalbookletsfor
thecontroller, front riggings, and/orseating systemthat accompaniedyour powerchair beforeinitialoperation.Your
safetydepends upon you, as wellasyourprovider, caretaker, or healthcare professional in using good judgement.

Maximum seating weight.
Do not allow unsupervised children to play near the power chair while the batteries are
charging.
Keep your hands away from the tires when driving. Be aware that loose fitting clothing
can become caught in drive tires.
Avoid exposure to rain, snow, ice, salt, or standing water whenever possible. Maintain
and store in a clean and dry condition.
Use correct tie-down points for controller harness to prevent the harness from getting
caught in the drive tires, pinched in the seat frame, or damaged when passing through
doorways.

Do not use a cell phone, walkie/talkie, laptop, or other radio transmitter while operating.
Removal of grounding prong can create electrical hazard. If necessary, properly install an
approved 3-pronged adapter to an electrical outlet having 2-pronged plug access.
Do not connect an extension cord to the AC/DC converter or the battery charger.
Do not lift the mobility vehicle while seated in it.
Do not lift the mobility vehicle while seated in it.
Corrosive chemicals contained in battery.
Wear safety goggles.

MANDATORY! Do not operate your new power chair for the first time without completely reading
and understanding this owner’s manual.
Your power chairisa state-of-the-artlife-enhancementdevicedesignedto increasemobility.Prideprovidesan extensive
varietyof products tobest fitthe individualneeds ofthe power chair user. Pleasebe awarethatthe final selection and
purchasing decision regarding the type of power chair to be used is the responsibility of the power chair user, who is
capableof makingsuchadecision, andhis/herhealthcareprofessional (i.e.,medicaldoctor,physical therapist,etc.).
Thecontents ofthismanualare basedontheexpectation thatamobility device experthasproperly fitted thepowerchair
tothe userandhas assistedtheprescribinghealthcare professionaland/orthe authorizedPrideProviderin theinstruction
processfor the use of theproduct.
Therearecertainsituations,includingsomemedicalconditions,wherethepowerchairuserwillneedtopracticeoperating
the power chair in the presence of a trained attendant.Atrained attendant can be defined as a family member or care
professionalspeciallytrainedinassistingapowerchairuserinvariousdailylivingactivities.
Asyoubegin usingyourpowerchairduringdailyactivities,youwillprobablyencountersituationsinwhichyou willneed
somepractice.Simplytakeyourtimeandyouwillsoonbeinfullandconfidentcontrolasyoumaneuverthroughdoorways,
onandoffofelevators, up and down ramps, and over moderate terrain.
Belowaresome precautions,tips, andothersafetyconsiderationsthatwillhelpyoubecomeaccustomedtooperatingyour
powerchairsafely.
Modifications
Pridehasdesignedandengineeredyourpowerchairtoprovidemaximummobilityandutility.Awiderangeofaccessories
isavailablefromyourauthorized Pride Provider to further customize your power chair tobetter suit your needs and/or
preferences.However,underno circumstances shouldyoumodify,add, remove, ordisableany feature, part, orfunction
ofyour power chair.
WARNING! Do not modify your power chair in any way not authorized by Pride. Do not use
accessories if they have not been tested or approved for Pride products.
Pre-Ride Safety Check
Gettoknowthefeelofyourpowerchairanditscapabilities.Priderecommendsthatyouperformasafetycheckbefore
eachusetomakesure your power chair operates smoothly and safely.
Performthefollowinginspectionsprior to using your power chair:
!Check for proper tire inflation. Maintain but do not exceed 35 psi (2.4 bar) in each tire if equipped with
pneumatic tires.
!Checkall electrical connections. Make sure they are tight and notcorroded.
!Checkallcontrollerconnections to the power base. Make sure they aresecured properly.
!Checkthe brakes. See VII. “Care andMaintenance.”
!Checkbattery charge. See VI. “Batteries and Charging.”
NOTE: If you discover a problem, contact your authorized Pride Provider for assistance.

Weight Limitations
Your powerchairis ratedfora maximumweightcapacity. Pleasereferto thespecificationstable forthislimit.
MANDATORY! Stay within the specified weight capacity of your power chair. Exceeding the weight
capacity voids your warranty. Pride will not be held responsible for injuries and/or property damage
resulting from failure to observe weight limitations.
WARNING! Do not carry passengers on your power chair. Carrying passengers on your power
chair may affect the center of gravity, resulting in a tip or a fall.
Tire Inflation
Ifyour powerchairis equippedwithpneumatic tires,youshould checkorhave theairpressure checkedregularly.Proper
inflationpressures willprolongthe lifeofyour tiresandhelp ensurethesmooth operationofyour powerchair.
WARNING! It is important that 35 psi (2.4 bar) tire pressure be maintained in pneumatic tires at all
times. Do not underinflate or overinflate your tires. Low pressure may result in loss of control, and
overinflated tires may burst. Failure to maintain 35 psi (2.4 bar) tire pressure in pneumatic tires at
all times may result in tire and/or wheel failure.
WARNING! Inflate your power chair drive tires from a regulated air source with an available pressure
gauge. Inflating your tires from an unregulated air source could overinflate them, resulting in a
burst tire.
Incline Information
Moreandmorebuildingshaverampswithspecifieddegreesofinclination,designedforeasyandsafeaccess.Someramps
mayhave turning switchbacks(180-degreeturns)that requireyoutohave good corneringskillsonyour power chair.
!Proceedwithextreme caution as you approach the downgrade of a ramp or other incline.
!Takewideswings withyour powerchair’sfrontwheelsaround anytight corners.Ifyoudothat,thepower chair’srear
wheelswill follow a widearc,notcut the corner short,andnotbump into or gethunguponany railing corners.
!When driving down a ramp, keep the power chair’s speed adjustment set to the slowest speed setting to ensure a
safelycontrolleddescent.
!Avoid sudden stops and starts.
Whenclimbingan incline,trytokeepyourpowerchairmoving.Ifyoumuststop,startupagainslowlyandthenaccelerate
cautiously.When driving down an incline, set your power chair to the slowest speed setting and drive in the forward
directiononly. Ifyourpower chairstartstomove downtheinclinefaster thanyouanticipated or desired,allowit tocome
toa complete stopbyreleasingthe joystick, thenpushthejoystick forward slightlytoensurea safely controlleddescent.
WARNING! When on any sort of an incline or decline, never place the power chair in
freewheel mode while seated on it or standing next to it.
WARNING! When climbing an incline, do not zigzag or drive at an angle up the face of
the incline. Drive your power chair straight up the incline. This greatly reduces the
possibility of a tip or a fall. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! You should not travel up or down a potentially hazardous incline (i.e., areas
covered with snow, ice, cut grass, or wet leaves).
WARNING! Never travel down an incline backward. Doing so may cause the power
chair to tip. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! If your power chair is equipped with a reclining seatback, do not attempt
to negotiate inclines with the seat in a reclined position. Do not attempt to negotiate
obstacles with the seat in a reclined position unless an attendant is present to help
stabilize the chair. Failure to heed may result in the power chair tipping over.

WARNING! Even though your power chair is capable of climbing slopes greater than those illustrated
in figure 1, do not, under any circumstances, exceed the incline guidelines or any other
specifications presented in this manual. Doing so could cause instability in your power chair.
Incompliance with theAmericans withDisabilitiesAct of1990,allhandicappublic access ramps arerequiredtohavea
maximumslope of 5° (8.7%).Therefore,Priderecommendsthat the maximum slopeofaninclineyou attempt to safely
ascend or descend on your power chair does not exceed 5° (8.7%). See figure 1.
WARNING! Any attempt to climb or descend a slope steeper than 5° (8.7%) may put your power
chair in an unstable position and cause it to tip.
Freewheel Mode
Yourpowerchairisequippedwithtwomanualfreewheelleverstoallowformanualmaneuverabilitybyatrainedattendant.
Formore information abouthowtoplace your powerchairintoand out offreewheelmode,see III. “YourPowerChair.”
WARNING! Do not use your power chair in freewheel mode without an attendant present.
WARNING! Do not attempt to personally place your power chair in freewheel mode
while seated on it. Ask an attendant for assistance if necessary.
WARNING! Do not place your power chair in freewheel mode while on an incline or
decline. This could cause the chair to roll uncontrollably on its own.
Braking Information
Yourpower chairisequippedwith two powerfulbrakesystems:
!Regenerative— useselectricityto rapidly slowthevehicle whenthejoystickreturns tothecenter/stop position.
!DiscParkBrake—activatesmechanicallyafterregenerative brakingslowsthevehicletonearstop,orwhen poweris
removedfrom the systemforanyreason.
Cornering Information
Whileyour power chair is equipped with frontandrearcasterwheels,excessively high cornering speeds can stillcreate
thepossibilityof tipping. Factors which affect the possibility of tipping include, but are not limited to: cornering speed,
steeringangle (how sharply you areturning), unevenroad surfaces, inclinedroad surfaces,riding from anarea of low
tractionto an area ofhigh traction(such aspassing froma grassyarea to apaved area– especiallyat highspeed while
turning),and abrupt directional changes. High corneringspeedsarenotrecommended. If you feel that youmaytipover
in a corner, reduce your speed and steering angle (i.e., lessen the sharpness of the turn) to prevent your power chair
fromtipping.
WARNING! When cornering sharply, reduce your speed and maintain a stable center of gravity.
This greatly reduces the possibility of a tip or fall.

Public Streets and Roadways
WARNING! You should not operate your power chair on public streets and roadways. Be aware
that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your power chair. Obey all
local pedestrian traffic rules. Wait until your path is clear of traffic, and then proceed with
extreme caution.
Outdoor Driving Surfaces
Yourpowerchairisdesignedtoprovideoptimumstabilityundernormaldrivingconditions—dry,levelsurfacescomposed
ofconcrete,blacktop, orasphalt.However,Pride recognizesthattherewillbetimeswhenyouwillencounterother surface
types.Forthisreason,yourpowerchairisdesignedtoperformadmirablyon packed soil, grass, and gravel. Feel free to
useyourpowerchairsafelyonlawnsandinparkareas.
!Reduceyour power chair’s speedwhendrivingon uneven terrainand/orsoftsurfaces.
!Avoidtallgrassthat canentangle therunninggear.
!Avoidloosely packed gravel andsand.
!Ifyou feelunsureabout adrivingsurface, avoidthatsurface.
Inclement Weather Precautions
Exposureof yourpowerchair toinclementweatherconditions shouldbeavoided whenever possible.Ifsuddenly caught
up in rain, snow, severe cold or heat while operating your power chair, proceed to shelter at the earliest opportunity.
Thoroughlydry yourpowerchair beforestoring,charging,or operatingyourpowerchair.
PROHIBITED! Operating in rain, snow, salt, mist/spray conditions, and on icy/slippery surfaces
can have an adverse affect on the electrical system. Maintain and store your power chair in a dry
and clean condition.
WARNING! Prolonged exposure to hot or cold conditions may affect the temperature of upholstered
and non-upholstered items on the power chair, possibly resulting in skin irritation. Exercise caution
when using your power chair in extremely hot or cold conditions or when exposing your power
chair to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time.
Stationary Obstacles (Steps, Curbs, etc.)
Proceedwithextremecaution when driving near raised surfaces, unprotectedledges and/or drop-offs (curbs, porches,
stairs,etc.). Be sure your power chair is travelingperpendiculartoanycurbyou are required to navigate. See figure 2.

WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair climb or descend an obstacle that is higher
than 2 in. (5 cm) unless you have the assistance of an attendant.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair proceed backward down any step, curb, or
other obstacle. This may cause the power chair to tip.
Stairs and Escalators
Powerchairsarenotdesigned to travel up or down stairs or escalators.Always use anelevator.
WARNING! Never use your power chair to negotiate steps or escalators.
Doors
!Determineifthe door opens toward or away from you.
!Driveyourpowerchairgentlyandslowlyforwardtopushthedooropen.Ordriveyour powerchair gentlyand slowly
backwardto pull the door open.
Elevators
Modernelevatorshaveadooredgesafety mechanism that, when pushed, reopens the elevator door(s).
!Ifyouare in the doorway ofan elevator when thedoor(s) begin toclose, push onthe rubber dooredge or allow the
rubberdoor edge to contact thepower chair andthe doorwill reopen.
!Usecare that pocketbooks, packages,or powerchair accessoriesdo not becomecaught inelevator doors.
Lifts/Elevation Products
Ifyouwillbetravelingwith yourpowerchair,you mayfinditnecessarytousea lift/elevationproducttoaidintransporta-
tion.Priderecommendsthatyouclosely review the instructions, specifications, and safety information set forth bythe
manufacturerofthelift/elevationproductbeforeusingthatproduct.
WARNING! Never sit on your power chair when it is being used in connection with any
type of lift/elevation product. Your power chair was not designed with such use in mind
and any damage or injury incurred from such use is not the responsibility of Pride.
Motor Vehicle Transport
Priderecommends thatyoudo notremainseated inyourpowerchair whiletravelingin amotorvehicle. Thepowerchair
shouldbestowed in the trunk ofa car or inthe back ofa truck or vanwith batteries removedand properly secured.
WARNING! Do not sit on your power chair while it is in a moving vehicle.
WARNING! Always be sure your power chair and its batteries are properly secured when it is being
transported. Batteries should be secured in an upright position and protective caps should be
installed on the battery terminals. Batteries should not be transported with any flammable or
combustible items.
Positioning Belts
Yourauthorized Pride Provider,therapist(s), and otherhealthcareprofessionalsare responsible for determiningyourre-
quirementfor a positioningbeltinorder to operateyourpowerchair safely.
WARNING! If you require a positioning belt to safely operate your power chair, make sure it is
fastened securely in order to reduce the possibility of a fall from the power chair.
WARNING! The positioning belt is not designed for use as a seat belt in a motor vehicle. Nor is
your power chair suitable for use as a seat in any vehicle. Anyone traveling in a vehicle should be
properly belted into seats approved by the vehicle manufacturer.

Batteries
In addition to following the warnings below, be sure to comply with all other battery handling information. For more
informationabout yourpowerchair’s batteries,seeVI.“Batteries andCharging.”
MANDATORY! Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead
compounds. Wear goggles and gloves when handling and wash hands after handling.
WARNING! Power chair batteries are heavy. See specifications table. If you are unable
to lift that much weight, be sure to get help. Use proper lifting techniques and avoid
lifting beyond your capacity.
WARNING! Always protect the batteries from freezing and never charge a frozen battery.
Charging a frozen battery may result in damage to the battery.
WARNING! Connect the battery harnesses in the proper manner. RED (+) cables must
be connected to positive (+) battery terminals/posts. BLACK (-) cables must be
connected to negative (-) battery terminals/posts. Protective caps should be installed
over all battery terminals. REPLACE cables immediately if damaged.
Removable Parts
WARNING! Do not attempt to lift or move a power chair by any of its removable parts, including the
armrests, seat, foot riggings, controller, and shrouds.
Preventing Unintended Movement
WARNING! If you anticipate being seated in a stationary position for an extended period of time,
turn off the power. This will prevent unexpected motion from inadvertent joystick contact. This
will also eliminate the possibility of unintended chair movement from electromagnetic (EM) sources.
Reaching and Bending
Neverreach,lean,or bendwhiledrivingyourpower chair.Ifitisabsolutely necessarytoreach,lean,or bendwhileseated
onyour power chair,it is important tomaintain a stablecenter of gravityand keep thepower chairfrom tipping. Pride
recommendsthatthe power chair user determine his/her personallimitations and practice bendingand reaching in the
presenceofaqualified healthcareprofessional.
WARNING! Do not bend, lean, or reach for objects if you have to pick them up from the
floor by reaching down between your knees or if you have to reach over the back of
the seat. Movements such as these may change your center of gravity and the weight
distribution of the power chair. This may cause your power chair to tip.
WARNING! Keep your hands away from the tires when driving. Be aware that loose
fitting clothing can become caught in drive tires.

Transfers
Transferring onto and off of your power chair requires a
goodsenseofbalance.Alwayshave anattendant orhealth-
careprofessionalpresentwhilelearningtoproperlytransfer
yourself.
Toeliminatethepossibilityofinjury,Priderecommendsthat
youora trained attendant perform the following tasks be-
foreattemptingatransfer:
!Turnoffthepower tothecontroller.
!Ensureyourpowerchairisnot infreewheelmode.See
III.“Your Power Chair.”
!Turnthecasterwheelstowardthe transfer destination
toimprovepowerchairstabilityduringtransfer.
!Make sure both armrests are flipped up or removed
fromyour powerchair.
!Flip up the foot platform or move the leg rests aside;
thiswillhelp to keep your feet from getting caught on
thefootriggingduringthetransfer.
!Reducethedistancebetween yourpowerchairandthe
objectyou are transferringonto.
WARNING! Before transferring, position yourself as far back as possible in the power chair seat
to prevent the power chair from tipping forward during transfer.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the power chair armrests and do not use the armrests
for weight bearing purposes, such as transfers. Such use may cause the power chair to tip, resulting
in a fall from the power chair and personal injury.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the foot riggings. Such use may cause the power
chair to tip.
Prescription Drugs/Physical Limitations

Alcohol/Smoking

ofsafetyissueswhileundertheinfluenceofalcoholorwhilesmoking.
WARNING! Do not operate your power chair while you are under the influence of alcohol, as this
may impair your ability to operate your power chair in a safe manner.

WARNING! Pride strongly recommends that you do not smoke cigarettes while seated in your
power chair, although the power chair has passed the necessary testing requirements for cigarette
smoking. You must adhere to the following safety guidelines if you decide to smoke cigarettes
while seated in your power chair.
!Do not leave lit cigarettes unattended.
!Keep ashtrays a safe distance from the seat cushions.
!Always make sure cigarettes are completely extinguished before disposal.
Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference (EMI/RFI)
WARNING! Laboratory tests have shown that electromagnetic and radio frequency waves can
have an adverse affect on the performance of electrically-powered mobility vehicles.
Electromagneticand Radio FrequencyInterference cancome fromsources suchas cellular phones, mobiletwo-way
radios(such as walkie-talkies), radio stations, TVstations,amateurradio(HAM) transmitters, wireless computer links,
microwavesignals,pagingtransmitters, and medium-range mobile transceivers used by emergencyvehicles. In some
cases,thesewaves cancauseunintendedmovementordamagetothecontrolsystem.Everyelectrically-poweredmobility
vehiclehasanimmunity(orresistance)toEMI.Thehighertheimmunitylevel,thegreatertheprotectionagainstEMI.This
producthasbeentested and has passed at an immunity level of 20 V/m.
WARNING! Be aware that cell phones, two-way radios, laptops, and other types of radio transmitters
may cause unintended movement of your electrically-powered mobility vehicle due to EMI.
Exercise caution when using any of these items while operating your mobility vehicle and avoid
coming into close proximity of radio and TV stations.
WARNING! The addition of accessories or components to the electrically-powered mobility vehicle
can increase the susceptibility of the vehicle to EMI. Do not modify your power chair in any way
not authorized by Pride.
WARNING! The electrically-powered mobility vehicle itself can disturb the performance of other
electrical devices located nearby, such as alarm systems.
NOTE: For further information on EMI/RFI, go to the Resource Center on www.pridemobility.com. If
unintended motion or brake release occurs, turn your power chair off as soon as it is safe to do so. Call Pride
at 800-424-8205 to report the incident.

THE JAZZY 600 SERIES
Yourpower chair has two main assemblies: the seat assemblyandthepowerbaseassembly. See figure 5.Typically,the
seatassembly includesthearmrests, seatback,andseat base.Thepower baseassemblyincludes twomotor/brakeassem-
blies,twodrivewheels, four caster wheels, two batteries, and wiring harnesses. See figures 5, 6, and 7.

MainCircuitBreaker:Themain circuitbreakerisasafetyfeaturebuiltintoyourpowerchair.When thebatteriesandthe
motorsareheavilystrained(e.g.,fromexcessiveloads),themaincircuitbreakertripsto preventdamage tothemotorsand
theelectronics.Ifthecircuittrips, allowyourpowerchairto “rest”forapproximatelyoneminute.Next,push inthecircuit
breakerbutton, turn onthecontroller, and continuenormaloperation.If the maincircuitbreakercontinues to triprepeat-
edly, contact yourauthorizedPrideProvider.

Manual Freewheel Levers
Your powerchairhasamanualfreewheelleveroneach motor.Manualfreewheelleversenableyoutodisengagethe drive
motorsfromthegearboxesandmaneuver thechair manually.
WARNING! Do not use the power chair while the drive motors are disengaged! Do not disengage
the drive motors when the power chair is on an incline, as the unit could roll on its own! Only
engage the freewheel mode when on a level surface.
WARNING! It is important to remember that when your power chair is in freewheel mode, the
braking system is disengaged.
To engage ordisengage the drive motors:
1. Locatethelever on top of each motor.
2. Pullthe two levers upward to engage thedrivemotors(drivemode).Seefigure 8.
3. Pushthe two levers downward to disengagethedrivemotors(freewheelmode). See figure 9.
Ifaleverisdifficulttomoveineitherdirection,slightlyrockthepowerchairbackandforth.The levershouldthenmoveto
thedesired position.
WARNING! Do not use the freewheel lever handles as tie-down points to secure this product.
