1. Safety precautions and warnings
1.1 Dangers
Attention!
This note is included in this instruction manual wherever it is warned about dangers
which will arise to life and limb of persons if the apparatus is handled improperly.
Observe these notes and be particularly careful in these cases. Also inform other
users on all safety notes. Besides the notes in these instruction manual the
generally applicable safety instructions and regulations for prevention of accidents
have to be taken into account.
Caution
This note comprises instructions to be observed in order to comply with guidelines,
instructions, notes and the proper procedure of the work, and to avoid damaging or
destruction of the apparatus.
1.2 Notes regarding safety at work
The Proceq ZHT 2092 - 2093 is exclusively designed for hardness testing. Any
other application is not in accordance with the regulations. The manufacturer
is not liable for damage resulting from inappropriate application. The user
bears the full responsibility.
Only spare parts and optional components provided by the manufacturer may
be used in combination with the Proceq ZHT 2092 - 2093. If components other
than provided by PROCEQ are used with the Proceq ZHT 2092 - 2093, there
is no guarantee by PROCEQ for resulting damages, defects or malfunctions.
Unauthorised modifications and changes of the Proceq ZHT 2092 - 2093 are
not allowed. These will invalidate the guarantee. The manufacturer is not liable
for damages resulting from unauthorised modifications; the user bears the full
responsibility.

2. Delivery of apparatus
2.1 Transportation damages
During carriage the pocket hardness tester is to be handled with the usual care. To
ensure carriage without damages the device is to be transported in the original
packaging and under normal freight conditions. Pushes during carriage are to be
avoided.
At the receipt of the goods, you have to check if there are any visible damages at
the outer packaging. If the packing is alright, you can sign the receipt documents. If
you even suspect by your visual impression that damage has occurred, make a
note of the suspected damage on the delivery receipt or freight papers and get the
carrier to sign it. Moreover, the forwarding agent/courier service must be held
responsible for the damage in writing.
If a hidden damage is discovered while unpacking, you have to inform and must
held the forwarding agent / courier service immediately in the following way: “When
opening the parcel we had to notice that …. etc. etc.“ This superficial checking of
the goods has to be done before the time limit of the forwarding agent / courier
service expires which is normally within 7 days. However, the period could be less.
Hence, it is recommended to check the exact time limit when receiving the goods.
If there are any damages inform also immediately your authorized PROCEQ trader
or Proceq SA directly.
2.2 Extent of delivery
The following parts are included in the delivery:
•1 hardness tester (Proceq ZHT 2092 - 2093 or Proceq ZHT 2093)
•1 tip 0.75 mm (Bosch)
•1 beige pressure spring 0-3 N (graduation: 10 g)
•1 blue pressure spring 0-10 N (graduation: 20 g)
•1 red pressure spring 0-20 N (graduation: 100 g)
•1 certificate of manufacturer
•1 carrying cases

Proceq SA refuses all warranty and liability claims for damages caused by
usage of the Proceq ZHT 2092 - 2093 in combination with non-original
accessories, or accessories from 3rd party suppliers.

3.4 Pressure springs
In the standard delivery are included three pressure springs:
•1 beige pressure spring 0-3 N (graduation: 10 g)
•1 blue pressure spring 0-10 N (graduation: 20 g)
•1 red pressure spring 0-20 N (graduation: 100 g)
The colours fit with the three different test ranges on the hardness tester.

4. Changing the pressure springs
For changing the pressure spring the following steps have to be carried out:
1. Always reset the spring tension to zero.
2. The handhold has to be separated from the head.
3. Change the pressure spring: hold the handhold vertical, so that the
pressure spring will fall down. Then put the desired pressure spring e.g.
red pressure spring with the colour first into the sleeve.
4. Tighten the handhold with the head.

5. Handling
5.1 Previous preparations
•Choose the appropriate hardness tester. The model Proceq ZHT 2093
equipped with rubber guiding wheels protects soft surfaces against
scratching and facilitates assessment.
•Choose the correct pressure spring according to the estimated
hardness range by means of the colour code.
- If necessary, change the pressure spring in accordance with
chapter 4 “Changing the pressure springs” on page 9.
•Check if the tip is free of dirt, if necessary clean it in accordance with
chapter 7 “Cleaning” on page 17.
5.2 Hardness tests
•Carry out the necessary preparations in accordance with chapter 5.1
“Previous preparations” on page 10.
•Adjust the spring tension by fixing the slide with the clamping screw.
•Place the hardness tester with the tip vertically on the surface, press
the instrument against the spring tension.
- When using Proceq ZHT 2093 you need to take care that the
rubber guiding wheels are parallel to the testing direction.
•Scribe a straight line of approx. 10 mm (0.39 inch) within 1 second.
- For scribing you can either draw or push the hardness tester.
•Repeat this procedure with different spring tensions until the test
surface shows a visible scratch.

•The slide position on the scale indicates the force (N) and the
measuring value corresponds to the hardness.
Always reset the spring tension to zero at the end of the measuring procedure.

6. Trolley
By use of the optional trolley you will have an easier handling and a higher
reproducibility.
•Take the trolley with open opening in one hand.
•Put the hardness tester in the opening of the trolley by use of your
other hand.
•Hold the hardness tester with the same hand which holds the trolley.

When using Proceq ZHT 2093 you need to take care that the rubber guiding
wheels are parallel to the testing direction, so that you are able to carry out
straight scribes.

•Tighten the butterfly nut lightly with the other hand. Afterwards check if
the knurled area of the hardness tester bears on the trolley. If
necessary adjust the position before you tighten the butterfly nut until
the hardness tester is completely fixed

•Carry out the hardness tests in accordance with chapter 5 “Handling”
on page 10.

7. Cleaning
The tip must be free of grease and dirt. After several hardness tests, the tip
has to be cleaned with acetone.
8. Storage
Ideal storage place for the hardness tester and the pressure springs is the
supplied carrying case.
Always reset the spring tension to zero at the end of the measuring procedure.
