4. Thisheaterneedsfresh,
outside air ventilation to run
properly. This heater has an
Oxygen Depletion Sensor
(ODS) safety shutoff system.
The ODS shuts down the
heater if not enough fresh air
is available. See Fresh Air For
Combustion And Ventilation,
pages 4through 6.
5. Keep all air openings in the
front and bottom of heater
clear and free of debris. This
will insure enough air for
proper combustion.
6. If heatershuts off,do not
relight until you provide fresh,
outside air. If heater keeps
shutting off, have it serviced.
7. Do not operate heater

Carbon MonoxidePoisoning:
Early signsof carbonmonoxide
poisoning resemble the flu with
headaches,dizziness, or nausea.
If you havethese signs,the heater
may not be workingproperly. Get
fresh air atonce! Haveheater
serviced.Some people are more
affectedbycarbonmonoxidethan
others. These include pregnant
women,personswithheart orlung
disease oranemia, those under the
influenceof alcohol, and those
at high altitudes.
Propane/LP: Propane/LP gas is
odorless.An odor-making agent is
added to Propane/LP gas. The odor
helpsyou detect aPropane/LP gas
leak. However,the odoradded to
Propane/LP gas canfade.
Propane/LP gas may be present
eventhough no odorexists.
Make certainyouread andunder-
stand all warnings. Keep thismanual
forreference.Itis your guide tosafe
andproperoperation of this heater.

WATER VAPOR: ABY-PRODUCT OF UNVENTED ROOM HEATERS
Water vapor is aby-productof gas combustion.An
unventedroomheaterproduces approximately one
(1) ounce (30ml) ofwater forevery 1,000BTU s
(.3KW s)of gas input per hour.
Unventedroom heaters arerecommendedas supple-
mentalheat (a room) rather than aprimaryheat
source (an entire house). Inmostsupplemental heat
applications, the water vapor does not create a
problem. In most applications, the water vapor en-
hancesthe low humidity atmosphere experienced
duringcold weather.
Thefollowing steps willhelp insurethat water vapor
doesnotbecomeaproblem.
1. Be sure theheater issizedproperly for the
application, includingamplecombustionairand
circulation air.
2. If high humidity is experienced, adehumidifier
maybe usedto helplower thewatervapor con-
tentofthe air.
3.Donotuseanunvented room heater asthe pri-
mary heatsource.

The following are excerptsfrom

54/ANS Z223.1,Section5.3.Air for
Combustionand Ventilation. All
spaces in homes fall into one of
the three following ventilation
classifications:
1. Unusually Tight Construction
2. Unconfined Space
3. Confined Space
The information on pages 4
through 6 will help you classify
your space and provide adequate
ventilation.
WARNING:This heater
shallnot be installed in a
confined space orunusually
tight constructionunless
provisions are provided for
adequatecombustionand
ventilationair. Readthe
following instructions to
insureproperfresh air for this
andother fuel-burning
appliances in your home.
Confined and
Unconfined Space
The National Fuel Gas Code
ANS Z223.1 defines aconfined
spaceasaspacewhosevolume
islessthan 50cubicfeetper
1,000Btu perhour(4.8m3perkw)
of the aggregateinputratingof all
appliances installed in thatspace
and an unconfined space as a
space whose volumeisnot less
than 50 cubicfeet per1,000 Btu
perhour (4.8 m3 per kw) of the
aggregate inputrating ofall
appliancesinstalledinthat space.
Roomscommunicatingdirectly
with the space in which the
appliances areinstalled*,through
openings notfurnished with
doors, are considered apartof
the unconfined space.
This heatershall not beinstalled
inaconfinedspaceorunusually
tight constructionunless
provisions areprovided for
adequate combustion and
ventilation air.
*Adjoiningrooms are
communicating onlyifthere are

UnusuallyTight Construction
The airthat leaks around doors and
windows mayprovideenoughfresh
airfor combustion andventilation.
However, inbuildingsof unusually
tightconstruction,you mustprovide
additional fresh air.
Unusually tight construction is
definedasconstruction where:
a. walls and ceilings exposed to the
outsideatmospherehaveacon-
tinuouswatervaporretarderwitha
rating of oneperm (6×10-11 kgper
pa-sec-m2)orless with
openings gasketed or sealed and
b. weather stripping has been
addedonopenablewindows and
doors and
c.caulkingorsealants areappliedto
areassuch asjoints aroundwin-
dowanddoor frames, betweensole
platesandfloors, betweenwall-
ceiling joints,between wall panels, at
penetrationsforplumbing, electrical,
andgas lines, and at other
openings. If your home meetsall of
thethreecriteriaabove,youmust
provide additionalfresh air. See
Ventilation AirFrom Outdoors,
page 5and 6.
If yourhomedoesnotmeet allof
thethree criteriaabove, see
Determining Fresh-Air Flow for
Heater Location, page 4, 5.
DETERMINING FRESH-AIR FLOW FOR HEATERLOCATION
Determiningif you Have a Confined or Unconfined Space*
Use this worksheet to determine if you have a confined or unconfined space.
Space: Includes theroomin which youwillinstall heaterplusanyadjoining roomswithdoorless passageways
or ventilation grills between the rooms.
1. Determine the volume of the space (length×width×height).
Length×Width×Height= cu.ft. (volume of space)
Example: Space size 20ft. (length)×16ft( width)×8ft. (ceiling height)=2560cu. ft. (volume of space)
If additional ventilation to adjoining room is supplied withgrills or openings, add the volume of these
rooms to the total volume of the space.
2. Divide the space volume by 50 cubic feet to determine the maximum Btu/Hr the space can support.
(volumeof space) 50cu.ft.=(MaximumBtu/Hrthe spacecansupport)
Example: 2560cu. ft. (volume of space) 50 cu.ft.=51.2 or 51,200(maximum Btu/Hrthespacecan support)

ventilatingto an adjoining unconfined
space, youmustprovidetwopermanent
openings: onewithin 12"of the ceiling
andone within12"of the floor onthe
wallconnectingthe two spaces(see
options 1and 2, Figure 2). Youcan also
remove doorinto adjoiningroom (see
option 3, Figure2). Follow the National
FuelGas CodeNFPA54/ANS Z223.1.

Example:
Gas water heater 44,000 Btu/Hr

If the actualBtu/Hr used is less than the maximum Btu/Hr the space can support, the space is an
unconfined space. You will need no additional fresh air ventilation.
3. Add the Btu/Hr of all fuel burning appliances in the space.

B. Vent room directly to the outdoors. See Ventilation Air From Outdoors, page 6 .
C. Install a lower Btu/Hr heater, if lower Btu/Hr size makes room unconfined.

Mounting Bracket
The mounting bracket is located
onbackpanelofheater(see
Figure 6). Ithasbeentapedthere
for shipping. Removemounting
bracket from back panel.

corners of lower front panel.
2. Pullbottomof lower front panel
forward, then down(see Figure 7).
Methods For Attaching Mounting
Bracket ToWall
Only use last holeon eachend
of mounting bracket to attach
bracket to wall. Attach mounting
bracket to wall only in oneof two ways:
1.Attachingto wallstud
2. Attaching to wall anchor
Attaching to Wall Anchor: This
method allows you toattach
mountingbracket to hollow walls (wall
areasbetweenstuds) or to
solidwalls(concreteor masonry).
Decide which methodbetter suits
your needs. Eithermethodwill
provide asecure hold for the
mountingbracket.
Marking Screw Locations
1.Tape mountingbracket to wall
whereheaterwillbelocated.
Makesuremounting bracket is
level.
2.Markscrewlocationson
wall. (see Figure 8)
Note: Only mark lasthole on
each end of mounting bracket.
Insert mounting screws through
these holes only.
3. Remove tapeand mounting
bracket from wall.

using 9/64"drillbit.
2. Place mounting bracket onto
wall. Line up last hole on each
endof bracket withholesdrilled
inwall.
3.Insert mounting screws through
bracket and into wall studs.
4. Tightenscrews until mounting
bracket is firmly fastened to
wall studs.
AttachingtoWallAnchor Method
For attaching mounting bracket to
hollow walls (wall areas between
studs) or solid walls (concrete or
masonry)
1. Drillholesat marked locations
using 5/16"drillbit.For solid
walls(concrete or masonry),
drillat least 1"deep.
2. Foldwall anchor as shown in
Figure 9 below.
3. Insert wall anchor (wings
first) into hole. Tap anchor
flushto wall.
4. For thin walls (1/2"or less),
insert redkey into wall
anchor. Push red key to
"pop"open anchor wings
(See Figure 10).
IMPORTANT: Donot
hammer key! For thick walls
(over 1/2"thick) or solid walls,
do not popopen wings.
5. Place mounting bracket onto
wall. Line up last hole on
each end of bracket with wall
anchors.
6. Insert mounting screws through
bracket and into wall anchors.
7. Tighten screws until mounting
bracket is firmly fastened to
wall.
Placing Heater On Mounting
Bracket
1. Locate two horizontalslots on
back panel ofheater(see
Figure 11).
2.Place heater ontomounting
bracket.Slidehorizontal slots
onto stand-out tabs on
mounting bracket.
Installing Bottom Mounting
Screw
1.Locatebottom mountinghole.
This hole is near bottom on back
panel of heater(see Figure12).
2. Mark screw locationon wall.
3. Removeheater frommounting
bracket.
4. Ifinstallingbottom mounting
screwintohollow orsolidwall,
install wallanchors. Followsteps
1through 4underAttaching To
Wall Anchor Method.If installing
bottom mountingscrewintowall
stud,drill holes at marked
locationsusing 9/64"drillbit.
5. Replaceheaterontomounting
bracket.
6.Place spacersbetween bottom
mounting holes and wall anchor
or drilled hole.
7.Holdspacer inplacewithone
hand. With other hand, insert
mountingscrewthrough
bottom mounting hole and
spacer. Placetipofscrewin
openingof wallanchor or drilled
hole.
8. Tighten screw until heater is firmly
secured to wall.Do not over
tighten.
l Note:Donot replacelowerfront
panelatthis time. Replace lower
front panelafter making gas
connectionsandchecking for
leaks (see page 10).
