Safety
• Inspect the Promethean Chromebox 2 for any physical damage to the casing before use. If damage is apparent, take care to
avoid contact with any potentially live parts.
• Do not under any circumstances try to gain access to internal parts of the Promethean Chromebox 2. If you suspect that the
device is damaged or faulty, you should contact Technical Customer Support, or an authorised Promethean service agent for
advice.
• To avoid the risk of electric shock or component damage, disconnect the Promethean Chromebox 2 from the power supply
before removing the Promethean Chromebox 2.
• The ventilation holes in the housing are designed to protect the Promethean Chromebox 2 against overheating. Be careful
not to block them.
• Do not insert hands or any other objects into the ventilation holes or signal joints of the Promethean Chromebox 2.
• Never place, spill or pour any liquid on any part of the Promethean Chromebox 2. The device could short circuit causing a fire
or electric shock.
• Do not place the Promethean Chromebox 2 in front of an air conditioning unit to avoid condensation which could cause fire,
electric shock or component damage.
• Do not put the Promethean Chromebox 2 on or beside any radiator or heater.
• Do not put any flammable or explosive objects near the Promethean Chromebox 2.
• Always use accessories recommended by Promethean to ensure compatibility.
• Only use the power cable that is compatible with your mains outlet socket. If you are unsure of the electrical compatibility of
your equipment, please contact Promethean or an authorised Promethean service agent before attempting to connect the
device to the mains supply.
• Use a wall socket that is close to the Promethean Chromebox 2 and that is easily accessible.
• Firmly insert the power plug into the wall socket. Partial connection could cause sparks.
• To avoid the risk of electric shock or component damage, disconnect the Promethean Chromebox 2 from the power supply
before plugging in any other cables.
• Hold the power plug when unplugging the device. Pulling the power cable may damage the wires inside the cable and cause
fire or electric shock.
• To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not touch the power plug with wet hands.
• Unplug the power plug before cleaning the Promethean Chromebox 2.
• To avoid electric shock, avoid handling the power cable during electrical or thunder storms.
• Unplug the Promethean Chromebox 2 during a lightning storm or when it will not be used for a long period of time. This will
protect the device from damage due to power surges.
• Do not use any liquid or a spray cleaner when wiping the device. Use a slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
• When moving the Promethean Chromebox 2 from an area of low temperature to one of high temperature, condensation
may form on the housing. Do not power on the device immediately after this to avoid causing fire, electric shock or
component damage.
• Do not ingest battery. Chemical burn hazard.
• The product contains a coin/button cell battery. If the battery is swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns in just two hours,
and can lead to death.
• Keep new and used batteries away from children.
• If the product does not close securely, stop using the product and keep away from children.

If any of the following occurs, please contact Technical Customer Support:
• Liquid sprays, or any object drops, into the Promethean Chromebox 2.
• The Promethean Chromebox 2 is dropped or damaged in any way.
• The Promethean Chromebox 2 emits abnormal sounds.
• The Promethean Chromebox 2 emits smoke or odour.
• The performance of the Promethean Chromebox 2 changes substantially.

Setup
Connecting to AC power
You can connect the Promethean Chromebox 2 to an AC power outlet using the power cable and the AC adapter.
Connecting an ActivPanel
You can connect the Promethean Chromebox 2 to an ActivPanel using the HDMI cable.

Connecting a mouse or keyboard
You can use the Promethean Chromebox 2 with a wired or wireless mouse and keyboard.

Connecting a wired mouse or keyboard
Connect the device to a USB port on the Promethean Chromebox 2.
Connecting a wireless mouse or keyboard
Connect the device's USB receiver to a USB port on the Promethean Chromebox 2.
After you power on the Promethean Chromebox 2, the wireless device usually pairs with the Promethean
Chromebox 2 automatically. If the wireless device does not pair with the Promethean Chromebox 2, refer to the
product documentation for the wireless device.
Connecting an audio device
To play sound from the Promethean Chromebox 2, you can connect an audio device, for example a pair of headphones.
Connect the audio device to the Audio output port.

Connecting to a Local Area Network
You can connect the Promethean Chromebox 2 to a Local Area Network (LAN) using an RJ-45 LAN cable.
The RJ-45 LAN cable is not included with the Promethean Chromebox 2.
1. Connect one end of the RJ-45 LAN cable to the LAN port of the Promethean Chromebox 2.

2. Connect the other end of the RJ-45 cable to a network connection device or a network wall connector.
Inserting a microSD card
You can use microSD cards to transfer and store data.
When inserting the microSD card, make sure that the gold contacts are facing towards the base of the Promethean
Chromebox 2.
Insert the microSD card into the microSD slot until you hear a click.

Connecting a USB device
Connect the USB device to the appropriate USB port.

Powering on the Promethean Chromebox 2
To power on the Promethean Chromebox 2, press the Power button on the front panel.
If you are powering on the Promethean Chromebox 2 for the first time, a start-up wizard appears.

The status area opens.

After the initial setup is configured, Promethean Chromebox 2 displays the desktop.

Managing apps
You can easily find, run and manage apps in the Promethean Chromebox 2.
1. Select .
The Promethean Chromebox 2 displays the Launcher.
2. To find the app you want to use, do one of the following:
• Choose from the recently used apps displayed below the search bar
• Use the search bar to search for the app by name

• Select to choose from all installed apps
3. Right-click the app icon, and do any of the following:
• Open the app in a new tab
• Pin the app to the Shelf
• Open the app as a new window
• Configure options for the app
• Uninstall the app from Chrome OS
• View app information
You can download new apps to the Promethean Chromebox 2 from the Chrome Web Store or Google Play Store.
Connecting to a wireless access point
To access the Internet or remote resources using the Promethean Chromebox 2, you can connect to a wireless access point.
1. Select the status area in the bottom-right corner of the desktop.
The status area opens.
2. Select .
Wi-Fi is enabled and the Promethean Chromebox 2 starts scanning for nearby wireless access points.
3. From the list of available Wi-Fi access points, select the access point you want to connect to.
4. If the access point is secured by a password, enter the password.
The Promethean Chromebox 2 is now connected to the wireless access point.
The Wi-Fi icon shows the connection strength, ranging between (no signal) and (the strongest signal).
Connecting to Bluetooth devices
You can use Bluetooth devices with the Promethean Chromebox 2.
1. Select the status area in the bottom-right corner of the desktop.
The status area opens.
2. Select .
Bluetooth is enabled and the Promethean Chromebox 2 starts scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices.
3. From the list of available Bluetooth devices, select the Bluetooth device you want to connect to.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair the devices.
Managing notifications
You can customize which notifications appear on the Promethean Chromebox 2.
1. Select the status area in the bottom-right corner of the desktop.
The status area opens.
2. If you want to enable or disable the Do not disturb mode, select .
When the Do not disturb mode is enabled, notifications don't appear.
3. To choose which applications are allowed to send notifications, select .

Changing the volume
You can increase or decrease the Promethean Chromebox 2 volume, or mute audio completely.
1. Select the status area in the bottom-right corner of the desktop.
The status area opens.
2. To adjust the volume, use the slider bar.
3. To mute audio completely, select .
For additional audio settings, select .
Adjusting the brightness
You can increase or decrease the Promethean Chromebox 2 brightness.
1. Select the status area in the bottom-right corner of the desktop.
The status area opens.
2. To adjust the brightness, use the slider bar.
Locking the screen
To prevent someone else using the Promethean Chromebox 2, you can lock the screen of the ActivPanel.
1. Select the status area in the bottom-right corner of the desktop.

Configuring settings
You can configure the Promethean Chromebox 2 settings in the Settings screen.

Troubleshooting
If the Promethean Chromebox 2 is not operating correctly, please check the following table before contacting Technical Customer
Support.
Problem Solution
The power is switched on,
but the Promethean
Chromebox 2 does not start
• Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged into the power socket on the Promethean Chromebox 2.
• Ensure that the AC adapter is connected to the power cable.
• Ensure that the power cable is connected to an AC power outlet.
For more information, see section "Connecting to AC power" on page 11.
The Promethean Chromebox 2
cannot access the Local Area
Network
• Ensure that you have connected one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN port of the Promethean Chromebox 2
and the other end to the network connection device or a network wall connector. For more information, see
section "Connecting to a Local Area Network" on page 13.
• Make sure you have configured the LAN settings correctly. For more information, see section "Configuring
settings" on page 17.
The Promethean Chromebox 2
cannot connect to a Bluetooth
device
• Ensure that the Bluetooth device to which you want to connect is near the Promethean Chromebox 2, and is
visible to other devices. For more information, see section "Connecting to Bluetooth devices" on page 1.
There is no sound coming
from the Promethean
Chromebox 2
• Ensure that audio is not set to mute, and that the volume is set high enough to hear. For more information, see
section "Changing the volume" on page 17.
Resetting the Promethean Chromebox 2
To reset the Promethean Chromebox 2, insert a pointed tool into the reset hole on the side of the device.
