Controls and Connectors
DAB/FM –press to switch between DAB and FM radio.
Standby - press to switch between standby mode and power on
Timer - press and use the Tune knob to set a countdown timer which will
sound an alarm after the period you set (from 1 min to 23 hrs 59 mins)
Info -press and repeat to change the text shown on the bottom of the
display e.g.scrolling text or time and date.
Menu - press to access and exit setup menu options,turn theTune knob to
scroll through and push to select an option.
Presets (1-6) -press and hold for around two seconds to store a station
under that number.Press and release to select and listen to a preset. (up to
6 FM and 6 DAB presets) DAB presets show the preset number next to the
station name.
Tune -turn to scroll through and press to select stations and menu options.
Push to see signal strength.
USB - connect to a PC for software upgrades
Stereo Out - analogue output - connect to an external amplifier or recorder
Headphones - connect to headphones (mutes speaker)
Aux Speaker - connect to an optional XT-1 speaker for full stereo output
9V DC - connect to mains adapter
Aerial - F-type connector for the supplied telescopic or other aerial.
Connecting an external aerial may improve DAB Band III or FM reception.

Getting started
So you’ve unpacked the box - here’s how to quickly get up and running using your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band.
1Pull the aerial from the clip on the rear and fully extend it,connect the mains adapter and plug in to your
power supply.The LCD lights up and the display shows‘EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band’for a few seconds.
2Select the language you would like your radio to operate in. A DAB autotune then starts with a progress bar on
the bottom line.The autotune finds the DAB stations available in your area.The stations found will be stored in
alphanumeric order and the first station will be selected.
3Adjust the volume if required.
4 Turn the Tune knob to see all the stations available.PushTune to change to anotherstation.
5 Push the DAB/FM button to change to FM mode and listen to FM stations.
Switching on and off
When you first plug in your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band it will switch itself on as described above.
To switch on or back to standby at any other time press the Standby button.
Note To switch off your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band completely unplug the power adapter.Your preset stations and other settings
will be saved.

Using DAB
To listen to digital radio stations press the DAB/FM button until the FM label disappears from the top right of the screen.If this is the first time
you have switched to DAB,you hear the first station on the list,otherwise you hear the last station you were listening to.
Changing stations
Change stations using theTune knob (or by selecting a numbered preset button).
1. Turn the Tune knob to find the station you want.The current station is shown at the top of the screen.
2. Push and release theTune knob to change the station.
A station with‘?’before its name is currently unavailable either because you have lost reception or the station is not
currently broadcasting.You can use the‘Trim stn.list ’option to remove them from the station list,see page 4 for details.
Changing the information displayed
Press the Info button and repeat to change what you see on the bottom line of the screen.
Scrolling text The default mode, broadcast by most stations.
Program Type Type of content being broadcast e.g.Classical Music.
Multiplex name Multiplex the current station belongs to. Multiplexes, sometimes called ensembles are groups of
stations owned and broadcast by a single operator.
Time and date Time and date updated regularly from the current multiplex.If your radio has been unplugged from
the mains there may be a slight delay before the time appears when you switch it on.
Channel DAB channel and frequency.
Mode Stereo or mono indicator and data rate at which the signal is being transmitted.This rate is set by the
broadcaster to suit the type of material.Higher rates generally mean higher quality.
Signal quality Signal quality.As a guide,values from 85 to 100 indicate good reception,70 to 84 borderline
reception and 0 to 69 poor reception.

DAB options
Press the Menu button,turn the Tune knob and push to select alarm settings or one of the following DAB options.
Station order
Changes the order of stations on your station list.Turn theTune knob to scroll through the following options and push to
select one:
Alphanumeric Displays all stations in alphanumeric order.
Fav station Displays your six most listened to stations at the top of the station list and the rest below,in
alphanumeric order.Your favourite stations are displayed with a ♥next to their names.
Active station Displays active stations at the top of the station list and inactive ones at the bottom in alphanumeric
order.Inactive stations are those on the station list but not currently available,marked with a ’?’.
Multiplex Lists stations in groups according to their multiplex.Multiplexes or ensembles are groups of stations
owned and broadcast by a single operator.
Trim stn. list Removes inactive stations from the station list.
♥→presets Available only when Fav station order (above) has been selected.Transfers your favourite stations to the
six preset buttons.
Autotune
Starts a scan of the full range of digital frequencies in Band III and L-Band for DAB stations and adds any new ones
found to the station list.A progress indicator is displayed and the number of stations found is shown on the top line.
You may want to perform an autotune if you move your radio to a different room or area.

Tuning aid
Provides a signal level display which you can use to find the best position for your radio and aerial.
1. Turn the Tune knob to scroll through different channels and push to select one.You see a signal level display.The
empty block indicates the minimum required level for reception and the filled blocks indicate the current level.
2. Move your aerial while watching the display and to try to raise the current level to the empty block or beyond. Once
you have a good signal the display will show the multiplex name and add the stations to the station list.
3. Push the Menu button to exit the tuning aid or turn the Tune knob to select another channel.
Note You can also display the signal level at any time for a station you are listening to by pushing theTune knob.
DRC value
DRC (Dynamic Range Control) value makes the quieter sounds in a broadcast easier to hear at low volume or in a noisy
environment.The DRC (Dynamic Range Control) level of a broadcast is set by the station and sent with the signal.Check
with the broadcasters to find out if they use DRC on their stations.Turn theTune knob to scroll through the following
options and push to select one:
DRC 0 DRC is switched off.Any DRC level broadcast will be ignored.This is the default setting.
DRC ½ DRC level is set to ½ that sent with the broadcast.
DRC 1 Applies the DRC level as sent with the broadcast.

Using FM
To listen to FM radio stations press the DAB/FM button until the FM label appears at the top right of the screen.If this is the first time you have
switched to FM,you hear the first frequency in the frequency band,otherwise you hear the last station you were listening to.
Changing stations
Change stations using theTune knob (or by selecting a numbered preset button).
Turn the Tune knob to search up or down the frequency range and find the station you want.You may see‘Searching...’
briefly on screen while the search for the next station is in progress.
If the station found has RDS data available you see the name of the station at the top of the screen.
You can change the FM tuning method,if preferred, to enable you to manually step up and down the frequency range.
See FM tuning mode on page 7 for more details.
Changing the information displayed
Press the Info button and repeat to change what you see on the bottom of the screen.
Scrolling text The default mode, broadcast by some stations.(RDS stations only)
Frequency & Mode The frequency of the current station and whether you are listening in Stereo or Mono.
Time and date Time and date from the current station.There may be a slight delay before the time appears
when you change station or if your radio has been unplugged from the mains.(Note that the FM
time is only updated regularly when tuned to an RDS station)

FM options
Press the Menu button,turn the Tune knob and push to select one of the following FM options.
FM tuning mode
Changes how you tune from one station to another.The current mode is shown on the top line of the display.
Turn the Tune knob to view the options and push to choose one:
Seek Tune automatically searches for the next FM station
Manual Tune lets you manually step through the frequency range in steps of 0.05MHz
FM stereo mode
Changes between stereo and mono reception - mono may be clearer for stations with weak signals.The current mode is
shown on the top line of the display.
Turn the Tune knob to view the options and push to choose one.

Setting an alarm
EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band has a daily alarm which switches the radio on (if in standby mode) and tunes to the station you have
chosen or sounds a tone.To set or change an alarm:
1. Press the Menu button to see the current alarm settings.
2. Push theTune knob if you want to change the alarm settings.
3. Turn the Tune knob to scroll through the following settings and push to change them.The current setting is shown on
the top line of the screen.
Set alarm Set the alarm on or off.
Set time Turn the Tune knob to set the hours, push the Tune knob,turn again and push to set the minutes.
Set mode Choose between a DAB or FM radio alarm (set to lastest station tuned to in that mode) or Tone
alarm. If you set a radio alarm the volume will be whatever the volume control is set at when the
alarm goes off.
When finished,press the menu button or wait to exit.If you switch your radio into standby you will see a bell symbol
on the screen next to the clock showing that an alarm is set.
Note If you set a DAB alarm and the station is not available when it is due to go off,a tone alarm will sound instead.
When the alarm goes off,EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band will beep (gradually increasing in volume to a set level) or tune to the
station you have chosen.You see the clock and flashing alarm icon on screen.You cancel the alarm as follows:
Radio alarm Press any button to cancel the alarm and perform the button’s normal function.
Tone alarm Push theTune knob or Standby to cancel the alarm.
All alarms will automatically stop after 60 minutes if not cancelled and your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Bandwill go into standby.

Setting a countdown timer
You can set a timer which will sound an alarm after a period — ideal for use in the kitchen.
1. Press theTimer button.
2. Turn the Tune knob to change the hours,push and turn again to change the minutes and push again to confirm.
The timer is now set and the alarm will sound after the period you have set whether the radio is on or in standby.To view
the time remaining press theTimer button again.To cancel or reset the timer to zero before it goes off,press and hold
down theTimer button for three seconds.When the timer alarm goes off you can cancel the alarm by pushing theTune or
Standby button.
Note that the timer alarm volume is at a set value so is not dependant on the volume setting of your radio.

General options
Display
Brightness
To change the screen brightness turn theTune knob to choose between Low and High and push to select one.
Standby mode
You can choose whether the backlight is on or off when your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band is in standby mode.
To change the standby mode turn theTune knob and push to select Backlight On or Backlight Off.
Language
You can set the display to one of nine languages; English, French,German,Italian,Norwegian,Spanish, Swedish,Danish or
Dutch.This affects the language of your menu options and programme type information only - broadcast text remains in the
language in which it is broadcast.To change the display language turn theTune knob to scroll through the languages and
push to select one.
Sw version
Displays the version of the software in your radio.You may be asked to quote this if you contactTechnical Support.
Sw upgrade
You can upgrade the software in your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band using a PC connected to the USB port on the rear panel.To
upgrade,select Sw upgrade and follow the instructions provided with the software.Upgrades may be issued to provide
enhanced functions or improve performance.Register your product and include an e-mail address to receive notification
of software updates or visit our website at www.pure.com/support.To exit the software upgrade menu press the Menu
button again.

Hints and tips
(<< >>) Secondary services
Secondary services accompany some stations,providing extra information or alternative content and may only be broadcast at certain times.
At the time of writing not many secondary services are available.If a station has one or more secondary services available the display will
show‘>>’ next to the station name on the station list and the secondary service will appear next to the station as you turn theTune knob.A
secondary service will display ‘<<’ before the service name on the station list indicating that it belongs to the station preceding it in the list.
(?) Inactive or unavailable stations
Inactive or unavailable stations are those which appear on the station list but are not currently available because either you are outside the
broadcast area,have lost reception or the station is not currently broadcasting. Unavailable stations have a‘?’ before their name on the station
list.If you select a station which has this symbol,your radio tries to tune to that station.If still unavailable,you will return to the last station you
were listening to.
I hear a ‘burbling’ sound on some stations
Although DAB is excellent at providing quality audio from very little signal,the quality can suffer if the signal strength is too low.If that happens,
a‘burbling’sound can sometimes be heard.To help reduce this, check that your aerial is fully extended and upright.If the problem persists try
moving your radio or repositioning your aerial using the tuning aid.
Display says ‘No stations available’
Check that your aerial is fully extended.UseAutotune to search for stations.Try using the tuning aid to adjust your aerial or radio position.
My alarm didn’t work
Check the alarm settings and make sure that the alarm is set to‘On’(If in standby you should now see an alarm icon on the screen). If a radio
alarm, make sure the volume was turned up.Check that you don’t have headphones plugged in.
Clock shows the wrong time
This may happen if the multiplex you are tuned to broadcasts an incorrect time signal,try tuning to a station in another multiplex.
I can’t hear any audio
If the display is only showing a clock and there is no audio,your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band is in standby. Push Standby to switch it on.
Resetting your radio
Resetting your EVOKE-1XT Tri-Bandremoves all presets,stored stations and favourite station settings and resets all options to defaults.To reset:
1. Press and hold the Menu button for three seconds.The screen shows‘PressTune to confirm reset’.
2. Push theTune knob to confirm the reset or press no buttons to cancel the reset.

Vorwahltasten (1-6) für ca.zwei Sekunden gedrückt halten,um einen Sender
unter dieser Nummer zu speichern. Kurz drücken,um einen gespeicherten Sender
aufzurufen. (bis zu 6 UKW- und 6 DAB-Voreinstellungen) Bei DAB-Voreinstellungen
erscheint dieVoreinstellungsnummer neben dem Sendernamen.
Tune -drehen,um durch Sender und Menüoptionen zu scrollen und drücken,um
diese auszuwählen.Drücken die Senderstärke anzuzeigen.
USB - mit einem PC zum Software-Upgrade verbinden
Stereo Out -Analogausgang –Anschluss eines externenVerstärkers oder Recorders

Erste Schritte
Sie haben den Karton ausgepackt – so nehmen Sie Ihr EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band schnell in Betrieb.

2Wählen Sie die von Ihnen bevorzugte Sprache.Es beginnt ein DAB-Autotuning-Vorgang, dessen Fortschritt
durch einen Laufbalken unten im Display angezeigt wird.DasAutotuning findet die in Ihrer Region
empfangbaren DAB-Sender. Die gefundenen Sender werden in alphanumerischer Reihenfolge gespeichert,und
der erste Sender wird ausgewählt.
3Regeln Sie wenn nötig die Lautstärke.
4Drehen Sie denTune-Knopf,um alle verfügbaren Sender anzuzeigen. Drücken Sie denTune-Knopf,um zu einem
anderen Sender zu wechseln.
5Drücken Sie dieTaste DAB/FM,um zum UKW-Modus zu wechseln und UKW-Radiosender zu hören.
Ein- und Ausschalten
Wenn Sie Ihr EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band zum ersten Mal mit der Stromversorgung verbinden,schaltet es sich selbst an,wie oben
beschrieben.
Um es danach anzuschalten oder in den Standby-Modus zu versetzen,drücken Sie die Standby-Taste.
Hinweis: Um Ihr EVOKE-1XT Tri-Band vollständig auszuschalten,ziehen Sie den Netzstecker.Ihre voreingestellten Sender
und andere Einstellungen werden gespeichert.

Verwendung von DAB
Um digitale Radiosender zu hören,drücken Sie dieTaste DAB/FM,bis das UKW- (FM-) Symbol in der rechten oberen Ecke des Bildschirms
verschwindet.Wenn Sie zum ersten Mal auf DAB-Betrieb umschalten,hören Sie den ersten Sender in der Liste,andernfalls hören Sie den
zuletzt gehörten Sender.
Senderwechsel
Wechseln Sie den Sender durch Drehen des Tune-Knopfes (oder durch Auswählen einer nummeriertenVorauswahltaste).
1. Drehen Sie denTune-Knopf,um den gewünschten Sender zu finden.Der aktuelle Sender wird am oberen
Bildschirmrand angezeigt.
2. Drücken Sie denTune-Knopf kurz, um den Sender zu wechseln.
Wird vor dem Sendernamen ein “?” angezeigt,ist dieser Sender zurzeit nicht verfügbar,weil Sie keinen Empfang haben
oder die Station momentan nicht sendet.Mit der Funktion“Senderl. kürz.”können Sie diese Sender aus der Senderliste
entfernen, Einzelheiten siehe Seite 4.
Ändern der angezeigten Informationen
Drücken Sie die Info-Taste wiederholt, um die auf der unteren Bildschirmzeile angezeigte Information zu ändern.
Lauftext Der Standard-Modus wird von den meisten Stationen gesendet.
Programmtyp DieArt des gesendeten Inhalts,z. B.klassische Musik
Multiplex-Name Multiplex,zu dem der aktuelle Sender gehört.Multiplexe,auch Ensembles genannt,sind Gruppen von
Radiosendern, die einem einzelnen Betreiber gehören und von diesem ausgestrahlt werden.
Uhrzeit und Datum Uhrzeit und Datum, die vom aktuell eingestellten Multiplex regelmäßig aktualisiert werden.Wenn Ihr
Radio vom Netz getrennt war, kann es nach dem Einschalten eine kurze Verzögerung geben,bevor die
Uhrzeit erscheint.
Kanal DAB-Kanal und Frequenz
Modus Stereo- oder Mono-Indikator und Data-Rate,mit der das Signal übermittelt wird.Diese Rate wird vom
Sender festgelegt,je nach verwendetem Material. Höhere Raten bedeuten gewöhnlich bessere Qualität.
Signalqualität Signalqualität Generell zeigenWerte zwischen 85 und 100 einen guten,Werte zwischen 70 und 84
einen mäßigen undWerte zwischen 0 und 69 einen schlechten Empfang an.

DAB-Optionen
Drücken Sie die Menü-Taste, drehen Sie dann den Tune-Knopf und drücken Sie ihn,um dieAlarmeinstellungen oder eine
der folgenden DAB-Optionen auszuwählen.
Sender-Reihenfolge
Ändert die Reihenfolge der Sender in Ihrer Senderliste. Drehen Sie den Tune-Knopf, um durch die folgenden Optionen zu
scrollen und drücken Sie ihn,um eine Option auszuwählen:
Alphanumerisch Zeigt die Sender in alphanumerischer Reihenfolge an.
Lieblingssender Zeigt zuerst Ihre sechs meistgehörten Sender an und danach die restlichen in alphanumerischer
Reihenfolge.Ihre Lieblingssender sind mit einem ♥neben dem Namen gekennzeichnet.
Aktiver Sender Zeigt zuerst alle aktiven und danach alle inaktiven Sender in alphanumerischer Reihenfolge an.Inaktive
Sender sind solche,die in der Senderliste stehen, aber derzeit nicht verfügbar sind – sie sind mit
einem“?”gekennzeichnet.
Multiplex Listet die Sender nach ihrem jeweiligen Multiplex gruppiert auf. Multiplexe oder Ensembles sind
Gruppen von Radiosendern, die einem einzelnen Betreiber gehören und von diesem ausgestrahlt
werden.
Senderl. kürz. Entfernt inaktive Sender aus der Senderliste.
♥→belegt Nur verfügbar, wenn die“Lieblingssender”-Reihenfolge (siehe oben) ausgewählt wurde.Ordnet Ihre
Lieblingssender den sechsVorwahltasten zu.
Autotunen
Beginnt,alle digitalen Frequenzen in Band III und dem L-Band nach DAB-Sendern abzusuchen und fügt neu gefundene
Sender der Senderliste hinzu. Es wird ein Laufbalken angezeigt,und die Zahl der gefundenen Sender wird oben im
Display angezeigt.
Wenn Sie Ihr Radio in einen anderen Raum oder an einen anderen Ort bringen,sollten Sie die Funktion Autotunen
ausführen.

Tuning-Hilfe
Zeigt den Signallevel an,mit dessen Hilfe Sie die beste Position für Radio undAntenne finden können.
1. Drehen Sie denTune-Knopf,um durch verschiedene Kanäle zu scrollen und drücken Sie ihn,um einen Kanal
auszuwählen.Sie sehen dieAnzeige des Signallevels.Das leere Kästchen zeigt den mindestens erforderlichen
Signallevel für den Empfang, und die gefüllten Kästchen zeigen den momentanen Signallevel an.
2. Bewegen Sie dieAntenne und beobachten Sie dabei das Display.Versuchen Sie so,den aktuellen Signallevel bis
zum leeren Kästchen oder darüber hinaus anzuheben.Sobald Sie ein gutes Signal empfangen,zeigt das Display den
Multiplex-Namen an und fügt die Sender der Senderliste hinzu.
3. Drücken Sie die Menü-Taste, um die Tuning-Hilfe zu verlassen, oder drehen Sie den Tune-Knopf,um einen anderen
Kanal zu wählen.
Hinweis: Sie können jederzeit den Signallevel für einen derzeit eingestellten Sender anzeigen,indem Sie denTune-Knopf
drücken.
DRC-Wert
Der DRC-Wert (Dynamic Range Control) macht leisereTöne einer Sendung bei niedriger Lautstärke oder lauter Umgebung
besser hörbar.Der DRC(Dynamic Range Control)-Level einer Sendung wird vom Sender festgelegt und zusammen mit
dem Signal ausgestrahlt.Fragen Sie Ihren Rundfunkanbieter, ob er DRC bei seinen Sendestationen verwendet.Drehen
Sie denTune-Knopf,um durch die folgenden Optionen zu scrollen und drücken Sie ihn,um eine Option auszuwählen:
DRC 0 DRC ist augeschaltet.Alle übertragenen DRC-Level werden ignoriert.Dies ist die Standardeinstellung
DRC ½ Der DRC-Level wird auf die Hälfte des übertragenen Levels reduziert.
DRC 1 Wendet den übertragenen DRC-Level wie übertragen an.
