About This Guide

This document is intended for consumers and storage administrators. This guide assumes that the user has
a basic understanding of storage and backup concepts.

2. Product Overview
This chapter provides basic information about the QNAP device.
About the TS-x53E
The TS-x53E comes with an Intel® Celeron® J6412 4-core processor and 8 GB onboard memory. It has two
2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports and two HDMI 1.4b ports for enhanced connectivity and multimedia support.
Besides two M.2 SSD slots for extra storage, the TS-x53E also features USB One Touch Copy for easy and
ecient data transfer.

Setting Up the NAS

Hardware Installation
This section provides information on installing drives and connecting USB expansion units.
Drive Installation
The NAS is compatible with 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA hard drives, 2.5-inch solid-state drives, and M.2
solid-state drives.
Installing 2.5-inch Hard Drives or Solid-State Drives on 3.5-inch Trays
Warning
• Installing a drive deletes all data on the drive.
• Observe electrostatic discharge (ESD) procedures to avoid damage to components.
•
Moving fan blades: Keep your hands and other body parts away from moving fan
blades.
•
Other moving components: Keep your hands and other body parts away from other
moving components.

2. Remove the drive tray.
a. Optional: Unlock the tray.

The preinstalled drive trays come unlocked.
b. Pull the handle to release the tray.
c. Pull the tray out.
3. Install a drive on the tray.
a. Remove the right fastening panel from the drive tray.

b. Place the drive on the tray so that the holes on the sides of the drive are aligned with the holes on
the sides of the tray.
c. Attach the screws.
4. Load the tray into the bay.
