1 Overview
This chapter describes features, system configurations and physical parameters of the Gazelle
S2028i, including the following sections:

1.1 Introduction
The modular network-manageable Layer 2 industrial Ethernet switch Gazelle S2028i
(hereinafter referred to as the Gazelle S2028i) adopts a full modular design, thus highly
configurable and expansible. Providing various service and functional interfaces which
support both the optical and electrical forms, the Gazelle S2028i can well satisfy customers'
differentiated requirements.
The Gazelle S2028i provides the following configurations:
2 slots for holding 1000 Mbit/s uplink interface cards. Each slot can hold up to 2
interfaces. Each slot supports both the 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 electrical interface and
the 100BASE-FX/1000BASE-X SFP optical interface.
6 slots for holding 100 Mbit/s downlink interface cards. Each slot can hold up to 4
interfaces. Each slot supports the 10/100/1000BASE-TX RJ45 electrical interface, the
100BASE-FX 1×9 (SC/PC and ST/PC) optical interface and the SFP optical interface.
Slots 6 to 8 for holding 100 Mbit/s downlink interface cards support service cards or
serial cards:
–Slot 6 supports the GPS card.
–Slot 7 supports the serial card.
–Slot 8 is reserved for the PTP card only.
The Gazelle S2028i can be installed in the following scenarios:

1.2 System configurations
Adopting industrial-level chip and power module, the Gazelle S2028i supports configurable
interfaces, flexible power supply and networking modes, thus meeting special requirements of
on-site industrial environment.
Provide density of up to 20+4 interfaces, and support the 0.5U subcard in the upper and
lower parts.
Provide multiple service interface types, such as RJ45, 1×9 SC/PC, 1×9 ST/PC, and SFP.
Support the RJ45 serial interface card. Support RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 standards.
Support the GPS card and the PTP card.
Provide the RJ45 Console interface for local management.
Provide Phoenix terminal alarm output interface (ALM) and power interface.

Service interfaces
The Gazelle S2028i provides up to 4 uplink interfaces, including the 1000 Mbit/s RJ45
electrical interface and SFP optical interface. Moreover, it supports up to 20 downlink
interfaces, including the 100 Mbit/s RJ45 electrical interface, 1×9 (SC/PC or ST/PC) optical
interface, and SFP optical interface.
The Gazelle S2028i provides multiple interfaces to access services. Table 2-1 lists service
interfaces of the Gazelle S2028i.

2.3 Interface card
2.3.1 1000 Mbit/s uplink interface card
There are 2 slots for the uplink interface card. A single slot contains 2 interfaces. The rate of
the uplink interface is 1000 Mbit/s. According to the service type, the interface cards can be
divided into 1000 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card and 1000 Mbit/s SFP interface card.
1000 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card
The 1000 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card provides 2 electrical interfaces. It can be inserted into
Slot 1 and Slot 2. The card supports 0.5U subcard in the upper and lower parts. Figure 2-3
shows the 1000 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card.

2.3.2 100 Mbit/s downlink interface card
There are 5 slots for the downlink interface card. A single slot contains 4 interfaces, in which
Slot 6 supports the GPS card and Slot 7 supports serial card. The rate of the downlink
interface is 100 Mbit/s. According to the service type, the interface cards can be divided into
100 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card, 100 Mbit/s SFP interface card, 100 Mbit/s 1×9 SC/PC
interface card, and 100 Mbit/s 1×9 ST/PC interface card.
100 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card
The 100 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card provides 4 electrical interfaces. It can be inserted into Slot
3 to Slot 7. The card supports 0.5U subcard in the upper and lower parts. Figure 2-5 shows the
100 Mbit/s RJ45 interface card.
