Statement
This document is a guide to simple and convenient hardware installation. Please read it carefully before installation to
prevent bodily injury or device damage.
The device installation personnel must be well trained before installation to master correct installation operations and safety
precautions.
Device installation shall follow local safety regulations. Precautions listed in this document are suppliments to local safety
regulartions. Raisecom shall not be liable for any accidents if common safety operation requirements are violated, or design,
manufacturing, or usage security standards for devices are violated.
High-voltage safety
Do not install or remove the device when it is powered on, to prevent unpredictable bodily injury.
Use special tools instead of common tools when conducting operations in high voltage and AC power conditions.
Keep the device away from moisture. Once the device is dampened, power it off immediately.
Grounding safety
Ensure correct grounding before installing cables. Avoid installing the device before it is grounded.
Laser safety
Before cutting orwelding the fiber, disconnect the fiber and the optical source.
Do not stare into the laser output interface to avoid eye injury.
Power cable safety
Turn off the power or disconnect the power before installing/removing power cables.
Make sure that the label of the power cable is correct before connecting the power cable.
Use a qualified power cable. Do not use a power cable that fails to meet the specifications.

Electrostatic discharge safety
Any time when contacting the device, you mustwear an Electro-Static
Discharge (ESD) wrist strap or ESD gloves.
Ensure that the ESD wrist strap is in maximum contactwith your bare
skin and have the other end of the ESD wrist grounded.

conditions
The power consumption is 44 W when the device is at standard load and 65 W when the device
is at maximum load. Therefore, the power supplied by the power supply must be greater than the
maximum power consumption.

ESD protection
Use effective ESD measures. The contact discharge voltage is ±8 kV, and the air discharge
voltage is ±15 kV.
Grounding condition
The device should adopt common earthing mode, with a ground resistance not greater than 1 Ω.
Installation tools
Flathead screwdriver, Philips screwdriver, adjustable spanner, cable cutter, wire stripper, ESD
glove, ESD wrist strap, PON optical power meter, multimeter, ground resistance tester, cable
tester, and crystal head crimping pliers

1. Install floating nuts. The ISCOM5508-GP is 1U high. The fixed holes in the bracket correspond to the installation
holes between the two distant holes in the mounting bracket of the cabinet.
2. Mark the position of the guide rail. Install guide rails before installing the ISCOM5508-GP in the cabinet. Pinpoint
the location of the guide rails according to the bottom edges of the installation holes and mark the position.
3. Install guide rails. Install guide rails according to the mark made in step 2.

4. Install brackets. Install brackets on both sides of the device.
When installing the ISCOM5508-GP in a 21-inch cabinet, purchase brackets that are fit for the 21-inchcabinet.
5. Install the device in a cabinet. Put the ISCOM5508-GP on the guide rail and slide it inward until that the brackets
fit snugly to the mounting brackets. Fix the brackets to the mounting bracketswith screws.
1. There are 2 ground terminals on the back of the ISCOM5508-GP as shown in the figure below. Choose one as required.
2. Unscrew the screw counterclockwise. Put the components in sequence as shown below and then tighten the screw
clockwise.

3. Connect the other end of the ground cable to the workbench, cabinet, or ground terminal of the cabinet or the ground
bar in the equipment room.
1. Remove the blank panel.
2. Install components.
3. Insert components steadily.
4. Tighten the captive screws.
Connecting fiber
The optical interfaces of the ISCOM5508-GP are all SFP optical interfaces. You have to install the appropriate SFP modules
according to the interface type before connecting fibers.

Connecting Ethernet cable
The Ethernet interfaces of the ISCOM5508-GP adopt standard RJ45 crystal connectors. To guarantee the transmission
quality of signals, we recommend using Cat 5e or bettercables.
The Ethernet interfaces of the ISCOM5508-GP supports auto-negotiation of straight-through/crossover mode.

After the device is powered on, LEDs should be in correct status. If a service interface is
connected properly with a cable, its LNK/ACT LED should be Green. If aservice interface
is not connected with a cable, its LNK/ACT LED should be Off.

Test the optical power of an installed SFP with an optical power meter. The value displayed
on the meter is P1. Compare the P1 to specifications of the SFP optical module to verify
whether the optical module works properly.

Connect the optical fiber at the side of the ODF which is connected to the device with an
optical power meter. The value displayed on the meter is P2. If the difference between P2
and P1 is smaller than 1 dB, it indicates that the fiber is correctly connected.
