Thepurposeofthismanualistoprovidethecalibrationtechnicianwiththeprocedures
essentialforthepromotionofpropermachineoperationforitsintendedpurpose.The
importanceofproperusagecannotbeoverstressed.
Thecalibrationtechnicianshouldhaveread,andbefamiliarwith,theinstruction
manualsuppliedwiththesystem.
Allinformationinthismanualshouldbereadandunderstoodbeforeanyattemptis
madetocalibratethemachine.
Sincethemanufacturerhasnodirectcontrolovermachineapplicationandoperation,
conformancewithgoodsafetypracticeinthisareaistheresponsibilityoftheuserand
hisoperatingpersonnel.
Allprocedureshereinarebasedontheuseofthesystemunderproperoperating
conditions,withnodeviationsfromtheoriginaldesign.Alterationand/ormodification
oftheequipmentarestrictlyforbiddenwithoutwrittenapprovalfromRaycoWylie
Systems.
Thei4500RaycoWylieSystemsRatedCapacityIndicator(RCI)istoberegardedonlyas
anaidtotheoperator.Whentheparametersaresetcorrectly,theindicatorwillwarn
thecraneoperatorofanapproachingoverloadconditionthatcouldcausedamageto
equipment,property,and/orinjurytotheoperatororsiteworkersinthevicinityofthe
craneanditsload.Priortothecalibrationbeingcompletedthesystemwillnotprovide
correctwarningsanditisessentialthatothermeansareusedtoestablishsafeuseof
themachine.
Thissystemmustneverbeused,underanycircumstances,asasubstituteforthegood
judgmentofacraneoperatorwhencarryingoutapprovedcrane‐operatingprocedures.
Responsibilityforthesafeoperationofthecranelieswiththecraneoperator.The
indicatorequipmentwillnotnecessarilypreventcranedamageduetooverloadingand
relatedcausesifnotsetproperly.

BeforeoperatingacraneequippedwithaRaycoWyliesystemRCI,theoperatormust
carefullyreadtheinformationinthei4500operatormanualandthecranemanufacturer
operator’smanual.Hemustalsobeawareofallthefederal,stateandlocalsafety
standardandregulationsapplicabletohisjob.Correctfunctioningofthesystem
dependsuponroutinedailyinspection.
Anysuspectedfaultsorapparentdamageshouldbeimmediatelyreportedtothe
responsibleauthoritybeforeusingthecrane.

1INTRODUCTION
Thismanualcontainscalibrationinformationforthei4500system.Whenperforming
calibrationofthei4500system,alwaysobservethesafetyrulesandregulations
applicableinthecountryofoperationtoreducetheriskofpersonalinjuryordamageto
theequipment.Eachsafetyinstructionthroughoutthismanualmustbetakeninto
considerationwhenusingthei4500system.Theinformationcontainedinthismanual
willenablequalifiedpersonneltoproperlyoperateandefficientlyperformcalibration.
1.1Personnelqualificationandscopeofthismanual
Installationofthei4500systemshallbeperformedbyaqualifiedtechnician.
Furthermore,calibrationofthei4500systemmustbeperformedbyaRaycoWylie
trainedtechnician.TheRaycoWylietechnicianwillperformacompleteandstructured
verificationofthewholesystembeforebeginningthesystem’scalibration.
Failuretocalibratethesystemproperlycanresultinoverloadingofthecranerisking
machinebreakageortippingthatcouldresultinseriousinjuryordeath.Alwaysreferto
aRaycoWylietrainedtechniciantocalibrateyoursystem.

ThismanualmustbeusedinconjunctionwiththeInstructionManual,refertothe
instructionmanualfordescriptionofthesystemoperation,especiallythesection
“OperatingButtonsDescription”.
Screenshotsusedinthismanualaretakenfroma4.3”displayandsomescreensmay
varyonlargerdisplayversions;calibrationprocedures,descriptionsandfunctionsare
identicalforalldisplayversions.Allnumbersshownonsamplescreensareexamples

Toensureasuccessful,firstcalibrationfolloweachcalibrationstepinsequence,donot
missoutanystepsunlesstheyaremarkedasoptional.
Manycalibrationscreensshowremindernotesorhintsonthebottomline,remember
toreadtheseforguidance.
2.1Step#1:Accessingthecalibrationmenu
1‐PresstheModebutton.
2‐Scrolltohighlight“CalibrationMode”using“”or“”.
3‐Press“”toenterthismenu.
4‐Thesystemwillrequesta5digitpassword.Thefirstdigitwillbehighlighted,use
“”or“”toselectthefirstdigitandpress“”toconfirmandmoveontothe
seconddigit.Repeatthisforall5digits,afterconfirmingthe5thdigitthesystem
willenterthecalibrationmenuprovidedthepasswordiscorrect.Ifthe
passwordisnotcorrectthesystemwillreturntothenormalworkingscreen.
5‐Ifamistakeismadewhileenteringthepassword,press“”toreturntothe
previousdigit.
Somesystemsareinstalledwithduallevelpasswordaccess,thismanualincludes
informationonallfeaturesaccessiblefromthetoplevel.Somefeatureswillnotbe
availablewhenthelowerlevelpasswordisenteredandwillnotappearinthecalibration
menu.Itwillnotnormallybenecessarytoaccessthesefeaturesaftertheinitial
installationiscompleted.
Providedthetoplevelpasswordisusedthecalibrationmenuwillremainaccessibleuntil
thesystemispoweredoffotherwisethepasswordwillberequiredeverytimethemenu
isselected.

RopelimitH3:Thisisthemaximumtensionthatthecableisratedforperfallorpart
ofline(ropeSWL)forthefirstwhiprope.
RopelimitH4:Thisisthemaximumtensionthatthecableisratedforperfallorpart
ofline(ropeSWL)forthesecondwhiprope.
Maxpartsofline:Thisisthemaximumnumberofpartsoflinethatcanberiggedon
thecraneandappliestoallhoists.
Percentperpart:ThisvalueallowsareductionintheSWLofthehoistropewhen
reevedtomorethan1part,thefactorisappliedtoallhoists.
Forexample:enteringavalueof1.0inthisfieldwillmeanthatthemaximumloadon
1partwillbetheropelimitdescribedabove,themaximumloadon2partswillbe
twotimestheropelimitless1.0%,themaximumloadon3partswillbethreetimes
theropelimitless2%,themaximumloadon4partswillbefourtimestheropelimit
less3%etc.Notethatthisvaluewillbemonitoredsimultaneouslywiththerelevant
loadtableandthehookcapacity,thelowestofthesefigureswillbeusedasthe
currentSWLforalarmpurposes.
Rigangle:Ifavailable,thisistheboomanglebelowwhichtheriggingconditioncan
beselectedprovidedtheSWLisalsozero,thedefaultvalueis5°andshouldnot
normallybeincreased.

Alarm1:Isthe%SWLapproachlimit.Ifthe%SWLisgreaterthanAlarm1,an
intermittentaudiblealarmwillbeactivatedandtheyellowdisplayLEDwillblink.The
externalyellowlampoutputwillbeON.
Note:%SWL=(Load/Capacity)x100.
Alarm2:Isthe%SWLoverloadlimit.Ifthe%SWLisgreaterthanAlarm2,a
continuousaudiblealarmwillbeactivatedandthereddisplayLEDwillbeON.The
externalredlampandaudiblealarmoutputwillbeON.
Alarm3:Isthe%SWLmotioncutlimit.Ifthe%SWLisgreaterthanAlarm3,a
continuousaudiblealarmwillbeactivatedandthereddisplayLEDwillbeON.The
externalredlampandaudiblealarmoutputwillbeON.Themotioncutoutputwill
beinthestopcondition(cutactive).
Outsidedutyradius:Thisvariablerepresentsatransitiondistancebetweenthe
maximumradiusratingandzerocapacity,theSWLwilldecayevenlyfromthelast
pointonthecharttozerooverthedistancesetbythisvariableandappliestoall
charts.
Note:Thisoptionisvalidonlyifthechartinterpolation(inthesystemoptionsmenu)
issetto"ON".
Outsidedutyangle:Thisvariableworksinthesamewayas‘outsidedutyradius’but
isusedforchartswheretheSWLisdeterminedbyboomangleandnotradius.
Outsidedutylength:Thisvariablerepresentsanuppertoleranceontheautomatic
selectionoftherelevantloadcapacitychartfortheactualboomlength.
Numberofhoists:Settothenumberofhoists(winches,orhooks)fittedtothecrane,
1formainhoistonlyor2formainandauxiliaryhoistsetc.upto4hoistsare
available.
Dutychange>20%SWL:IfsettoONthisoptionallowsdutyandpartssettingstobe
changedwhilealoadissuspended,ifsettoOFFthesechangeswillnotbepermitted
unlesstheloadislessthan20%oftheSWL.
Warning:ThisoptionmustbesettoOFFforEuropeanoperation.
Sensitivitycoefficient(5‐50%):The%valuewilldeterminehowmuchvariationis
requiredinorderfortheloadvariationtobeoutsidetherangeofthefilter,this
shouldbeleftatthedefaultvalueof35.Thefilterwillonlybefunctionalinthe
normaloperatingmode.
LowfrequencyCoefficient(10‐75):Adjuststhenumberofsamplesthefilterwilluse,
thisshouldbeleftatdefaultvalueof35.Thefilterwillonlybefunctionalinthe
normaloperatingmode.

2.5Step#5:“Dimensions”Dataentry
Thismenucontainscranedimensionsthatarenecessaryforthecalculationoftheload
radiusandheightoftheboomtip.
Someorallofthisinformationmaybepre‐loadedpriortodeliverybutalldimensions
shouldbeverifiedandeditedasrequiredbeforeproceeding.Unitsinusewillbefeetor
metresdependingonthesettingmadefor‘calibrationunits’instep#3,areminderis
shownonthebottomlineofthisdisplay.Toenteranegativevalue,enterthenumber
andpress“+/‐“tochangethesign.Press“+/‐“againtotogglebacktoapositivevalue.
Remembertosaveanychangesmade.PleaseadviseRaycoWylieofanychanges
requiredinthissection.
Dimensionsrelatingtoboomtipattachmentsandtheboomlengthsarestoredinthe
chartfileandarenoteditableinthismenu,*seenote1
SCF(slewoffset)–horizontaldistancebetweentheboomfootpinandthecenterline
ofrotationofthemachine.Iftheboomfootpinisbehindthecenterlineofrotation
thenthedistanceisnegative,otherwiseitispositive.
CH1(heightrubber)–verticaldistancebetweentheboomfootpinandtheground
whenontiresorcrawlers.
CH2(heightoutrigger)–verticaldistancebetweentheboompivotpinandthe
groundwhenonoutriggers.Forcrawlerbasedmachinessettothesamevalueas
CH1.

theloadchartfilegiventhere.ThiswillenableourTechnicalServicerepresentativeto
efficientlyaccessalltheinformationaboutthesystem.

2.6Step#6:“blockcapacitiesandblockweights”setting
Thismenucontainsthecapacitiesandweightsofalltheavailablehooksforthecrane,
thehook(s)inusemustbeenteredhereforsubsequentselectionintheconfiguration
settingofthesystem.Thecapacityofeachhookwillbeusedbythei4500systemto
determinewhetherthecurrentSWLfortheconfigurationandpositionofthemachineis
limitedbytheloadcurve,thepartsoflineorthehookcapacity.
Afterselecting“blockcapacitiesandblockweights”fromthemaincalibrationmenuthe
screenwillshow:
Setthecapacityandweightofeachhookblockinturnusingthecalibrationunitsset
earlier(notedatthebottomofthisscreen).Remembertopress“save”onceallthe
dataisentered.Numbersshownareforillustrationpurposesonlyandmustbesetto
showrealdatafromthemachine.

2.7Step#7:“systemoptions”setting
Thesystemoptionsmenuallowsvariousfeaturestobeturnedonandoffandmayvary
dependingontheversionofsoftwareinstalledinthei4500system.Thesesettingswill
normallybepre‐setbeforedeliveryandwillnotrequirechanging.
Navigatethroughthecalibrationmenuusing“”or“”tohighlight“systemoptions”
andpress“”toenter.
Chartinterpolation.Determineswhetherornotthei4500systeminterpolatesthe
cranecapacitychartswithrespecttoradius/angleorwhetheritstepsfromonecapacity
tothenext.IfchartinterpolationisON,thesystemwilldisplayasmoothtransition
betweenratedpoints.IfitisOFF,thenoncetheradius/angleexceedsalistedvalueon
thechartthecapacitywilldroptothenextratedcapacity,thisisknownasastepped
chart.Refertothecranemanufacturer’sloadcharttodetermineifthechartsshouldbe
interpolatedorstepped.
Datalogger.Allowsthedatalogger,iffitted,tobeswitchedONorOFF.
CraneID. Thisisonlyusedifadataloggerisinstalledandisauniqueidentifierforthe
crane.ItisusedinconjunctionwiththeRaycoWyliedataloggersoftwareforPCto
manage‘wholelife’dataforthemachineandactsasanidentifierforfilesonce
downloadedandremovedfromthemachine.
Passwordprotection. Thisisonlyusedifadataloggerisinstalledand,whensettoON,
willsetthesystemtoaskforapasscodenumbertobeenteredeachtimethesystemis
switchedon.Seealso“userid”settings(page31).
“Limitsaved”message. Optionalfeature,ifenabledthensettingthistoONwilldisplay
amessageonstartupindicatingalimitissavedifalimithaspreviouslybeenset.
LimitaccesswithHDIN. WhensettoON,Limitsmenuisaccessedviaanexternalinput
ratherthanthenormalmenubutton.Refertothewiringdiagramfordetailsifrelevant.
Externalsetupbutton. Optionalfeature,ifenabledthensettingthistoONwillallow
thesetupbypassfeaturetobeavailableviaanexternaldigitalinput.

Returntimefromlimits. Notenabledunlesstherangelimitingfeatureisfitted.This
valuerepresentsthetimeallowedbetweensettingarangelimitandthelimitbecoming
activetoallowthemachinetobemovedbackintothepermittedworkingzone.
2.8Step#8:“bridging/bypassoutput”
Thisitemisanoptiondependingontheversionofthesoftwareinstalled.When
availableitallowstheparameterstobesetforthePWMoutputusedtoreducethe
machinespeedduringbridgingorbypassfunctions.
2.9Step#9:“picture”
Thissettingallowsthegraphicofthecraneshowninthenormalworkingwindowtobe
settoaversionthatlookssimilartothemachinetowhichthesystemisfitted.Itcanbe
settoanyoftheavailablechoicesatanytimewithoutchangingtheperformanceofthe
system.

Everyanglesensorinstalledhasitsowndedicatedaddress.Theseswitchesarefactory
setpriortodispatchandwillnotnormallyrequirechanging.Pleaserefertothewiring
diagramtoseetheaddressdipswitchsettingforeachanglesensorinterface.
