What’s in the Box
Thank you for purchasing the DVD Player. Unpack the box completely and tear off any
protection films.We recommend that you retain the original carton and packing materials for use
should you transport or ship the unit in the future. Keep this manual handy for future reference.
Initial Setup of the Remote Control
Remove the battery holder from the remote control by pushing the tab release toward the
battery compartment.While holding the tab, pull out the battery holder. Insert a CR2025 battery,
and reinsert the battery holder into the remote control compartment.

Remote Control

holder. Replace only with the type of battery
specified. Do not throw the battery into fire
or attempt to recharge it. If you are not using
the remote control unit for an extended

The Player’s Power Supply
You can power your player either from the battery or power adapter.The battery must first
be charged using the AC power adapter.
Attaching and Removing the Battery
The battery has three plugs that must be engaged in the three holes located under the DVD
player.
1. Install the battery into the player while taking care to align the plugs on the battery with
the holes located under the player.
2. Slide the battery into place until you hear it click.
3. To remove the battery, press the Lock/Release lever and pull the battery away from the
player.
Note: Contact the applicable local governmental office and your current waste removal provider for
assistance in determining the appropriate disposal method in your area for old batteries.
Charging the Battery
1. Make sure the player is turned off when charging the battery.
2. Insert the plug of the AC power adapter into the DC IN jack on the right side of the
player. Plug the other end into the AC wall outlet.
The CHARGE indicator at the front of the player turns red when the battery is
charging. When the battery is fully charged, the FULL indicator turns green.
3. Disconnect the adapter from both the battery and AC outlet, when the charging is
completed.
Notes: Fully charge the Ni-MH battery before using it for the first time.
The battery is fully charged approximately 10 to 15 hours after plugging it into the AC outlet.
Use only the supplied AC adapter with this player and battery. Using any other adapter will void the
warranty.
Low Battery Indication
The STANDBY indicator blinks when the battery power is nearing depletion. Within a
while, the power turns off. Refer to the “Charging the Battery” section above to recharge
the battery.

Using the AC Power Adapter
1. Connect the plug from the power adapter to the player’s DC IN jack on the right side of the
player.
2. Connect the other end of the power adapter to an AC power outlet.
Connecting Your DVD Player to Other Components
Note: When connecting your DVD player to other components, make sure the power is turned off and the AC
adapter is not connected.
Connecting the Player to a Television
If you want to watch DVD discs on your TV by using your DVD player, you can connect it to a
television set using Audio-Video cables and/or S-VIDEO cable (not supplied).When using the
S-VIDEO jack (if available on your TV), make sure you also connect the audio as the S-VIDEO
cable only carries video.
Using Headphones
For private listening, use the headphone jacks to connect headphones (not included) to the player. .

Connecting Your DVD Player to an Audio System
If you want to use an audio source like an amplifier or audio system and TV, follow the
illustration below. Use the audio/video cables.
1 POWER switch: Turns the DVD player on and off.
2 FULL indicator: Lights green when the battery is fully charged.
3 CHARGE indicator: Lights red when the battery is being charged.
4 STANDBY indicator: Flashes when the DVD player is turned off; the DVD player is still
receiving some power.
5 Remote sensor: Accepts the remote control signal.
6 OPEN: Opens the disc compartment.

Connecting the DVD Player to the Car Cigarette Lighter
Make sure the car and the player are turned off before connecting the player to the cigarette
lighter. Using a car adapter, connect the socket end of the car adapter to the cigarette lighter and
the other end of the adapter to the DC IN connector on the player.
Note: To prevent the car’s battery from discharging, disconnect the DC power cord from the cigarette lighter
socket when not in use.

Marks a point on the disc so you can quickly start playing the disc from
that point.
CLEAR
Use to remove menus or displays from the screen.
DIGEST
Displays the first scene of all the chapters/tracks or plays the first few
seconds of each.
DISPLAY
Displays elapsed and remaining time when a disc is playing.

DVD MENU
Accesses the disc’s menu when playing a disc.
ENTER
Use with the navigation buttons; selects the item that is highlighted
in the menu system.
KEY LOCK
Disables the keys on the DVD player except for the POWER
button and VOLUME control.
MUTE
Press to reduce the audio level to minimum level; press again to
restore audio. MUTE appears on screen of the DVD player.
PBC
Turns Playback Control on and off for VCD 2.0 only.
PAUSE/STEP ( )
Press once to pause a disc; press again to advance one frame at a
time.
PLAY ( )
Plays a disc.
PROGRAM
Allows you to program what order chapters/tracks play.
RANDOM
Turns random playback on and off for VCD, SVCD, and CD discs.
REPEAT/REPEAT A-B
Repeat the title or chapter of the disc. Press repeatedly to scroll
through the options (CHAPTER,TITLE, OFF or TRACK, ALL, OFF).
Define a specific segment on the disc that you want to repeat.
RETURN
Stops playback and returns to the PBC menu (VCD).
SCREEN ON/OFF
Turns the TFT screen temporarily off to save battery power when
playing a CD, mp3, or other audio media.
SEARCH
Searches for a Title, Chapter, or Time during playback.
Fast Forward ( )
Accesses forward search during playback. Press several times to
change playback speed.
Reverse ( )
Accesses reverse search during playback. Press several times to
change playback speed.
SETUP
Turns the DVD player’s menu on and off.
SKIP FORWARD ( )
Goes to the next chapter (DVD) or track (CD).
SKIP REVERSE ( )
Goes to the previous chapter (DVD) or track (CD).
SLOW/F
Accesses forward slow motion during DVD playback. Press several
times to change playback speed.
SLOW/R
Accesses reverse slow motion during DVD playback. Press several
times to change playback speed.
STANDBY ON/OFF
Turns the DVD player on and off.
STOP( )
Stops playback.
SUBTITLE MENU
Accesses a DVD disc’s Subtitle menu, if available.
TITLE MENU
Accesses the DVD disc’s Title menu, if available.
ZOOM
Enlarges the picture on the screen (DVD,VCD only).

Using Different Menus
Each disc is programmed with different features.There are two separate types of menus that you
can use to access features:
• The Disc menu – The Disc menu is part of each
disc and is separate from the DVD player’s menu.The
contents of each Disc menu vary according to how the
disc was authored and what features were included
on the disc.The Disc menu is turned on and off (while
the disc is playing) with the DVD MENU button on the
remote control.
• The DVD player menu – The DVD player’s menu
system is accessed when a disc is playing or in the stop
mode. Pressing SETUP turns the menu system on and
off.
Locking the DVD Player Buttons
The KEY LOCK button on the remote control allows you to disable the buttons
on the portable DVD player except for the POWER button. Press KEY LOCK
to lock the player’s buttons (except for POWER); Key Lock On appears on the
player’s screen.To unlock the buttons, press KEY LOCK again, Key Lock Off
appears.

Chapter 2 Playing Discs
Regional Coding
Both the DVD player and the discs are coded by region.These regional codes must
match in order for the disc to play.This player’s code is Region 1. ALL means all
regions. Other regions are: 2: Europe, the Middle East, Rep. of South Africa, Japan; 3:
Southeast Asia,Taiwan; 4: Central America, South America, Australia, Mexico, New
Zealand; 5: Russian Federation,Africa (except Egypt and Rep. of South Africa), India,
Pakistan; 6: China.
Turn on the DVD Player
1.Select a power source (AC adapter or battery pack).
2. Place the player on a table or steady surface.
3. Slide the OPEN Release switch to raise the screen to an open position.
4. Slide the POWER switch to the left to turn on the DVD player.
How to Load and Play a Disc
1.Press the DOOR OPEN button to open the disc compartment door. (Open appears
on the screen)
2. Place a disc gently into the tray with the disc’s label facing up (double-sided discs have
content on both sides, so you can place the disc with either side up).
3. Close the disc compartment by pushing down on the left front edge of the door.
The DVD player reads the disc’s table of contents, and then one of two things
happens depending on how the disc was programmed:
• The disc starts playing.
• The disc menu appears. One of the options will start playing the disc. Highlight
that option and press ENTER.
4. Press the STOP button to stop playback.
Compatible Discs
This DVD player is capable of playing the following types
of discs: DVDs,Video CDs, and CDs with mp3 files,
WMA files (Windows Media Audio), and JPEG files on
them. Before you put a disc in the player, make sure it is
compatible.
You can’t play the following types of discs: Laserdiscs,
CD-I, CD-ROM (computer-only discs), DVD-ROM,
CD-G, or discs recorded using other broadcast
standards (i.e. PAL or SECAM).
Note: Some discs may not be compatible due to laser pickup and
design.

Playing Discs
Basic Playback Features
To search a disc using the remote control, you can use the SEARCH, Search Fast
Forward, Search Reverse, SKIP FORWARD, SKIP REVERSE, SLOW/F, or SLOW/R button.

SEARCH REV / SEARCH FF Picture Scan
During playback, pressing search reverse () or fast forward
() scans the disc backwards and forwards. Pressing the
button repeatedly increases the speed levels: x2, x4, x8, and
x16.To resume normal playback, press PLAY.
Frame Advance
While a disc is playing, press PAUSE/STEP to pause the
picture. Repeatedly press PAUSE/STEP to advance the picture
one frame at a time.To resume normal playback, press PLAY.
Note:When a disc is paused or stopped for more than 5 minutes, the
screen saver mode is activated automatically. If the player remains in
the inactive state for another five minutes, the player turns off without
the resume play feature.
Slow Motion
During playback, press SLOW/F or SLOW/R button to
select slow motion forward or reverse playback at 1/2, 1/4,
1/8, 1/16 the normal speed. Press PLAY to resume normal
playback.
Note:This player does not support slow motion playback on audio
and mp3 discs. In addition, the SLOW/F playback is not supported
on mp4 and VCD discs.The symbol appears on the screen if the
player does not support the operation.
Skip Forward/Backward
While a disc is playing, skip forward or backward a chapter
or track at any time by pressing the SKIP REV () or SKIP
FF (
) button.
Title/Chapter Direct or Time Search
During playback, use this search method to go directly to a specific title and/or chapter or to directly
access a location on the disc. Some DVD discs contain more than one title. Each title is divided into
chapters. Use this search method to go directly to a specific Title, Chapter,Title Time or Chapter Time.
1. Press the SEARCH button repeatedly to select one of the options.
2. Use the number button(s) to enter the title, chapter or time.The player advances to that point on
the disc and begins playback.
Notes: Many discs only have one title.
The Chapter feature won’t work if the disc isn’t formatted with separate chapters.

Track Direct or Time Search
During playback, use this search method to go directly to a specific Disc,Track, or
Select Track.
1. Press the SEARCH button repeatedly to select one of the options.
2. Use the number button(s) to enter the disc, track, or time.The player advances to
that point on the disc and begins playback.
Notes: If a number is entered that exceeds the limit of the Search option, then INPUT INVALID
appears on the screen and you must try again.
When playing a VCD, use only number buttons during search to select the desired track or time.
DISPLAY Button
During playback, press the DISPLAY button to display the current disc mode.
Repeatedly pressing the DISPLAY button advances through the options.

Advanced Playback Features
The advanced features described in this section will enhance the enjoyment of
listening and/or viewing various types of discs on your portable DVD player. Using the
remote control enables you to access some of the more advanced playback features,
such as REPEAT, RANDOM, PROGRAM, BOOKMARK,AUDIO MENU, and more.
Audio Menu
If the disc was created with different language audio tracks (recorded in different
languages), you can change the language while you’re playing the disc. Press the
AUDIO MENU button repeatedly to select the preferred language.
Notes:The language feature only works if the disc was created with multiple language tracks. If the
disc doesn’t contain the language you selected, the disc will play in the default language.
The audio language can also be changed through the DVD player menu.

Subtitle Menu
By default, subtitles are off.To turn subtitles on, press the SUBTITLE MENU button repeatedly to
select a subtitle language.
Notes: Changing the subtitle language affects only the disc you are currently playing.When the disc is removed
or the player is turned off, the subtitle language reverts to the language setting specified through the DVD
player’s main menu.
If the disc doesn’t contain the language you select, the disc’s default language is automatically selected.
Some discs are programmed to only allow access to the subtitle feature through the disc’s menu.To access the
disc’s menu, press the DVD MENU button.
Title Menu
Some discs have a Title Menu where you can access the titles. Press the TITLE MENU button to
access the Title Menu. Use the navigation buttons ( , ,, and ) to select the desired option
and press ENTER.
Note:This feature is not available on all discs.
Audio Mode Menu (Audio CDs only)
While playing an audio CD, mp3 disc, or WMA disc, you can cycle through the audio modes by
pressing the AUDIO MODE button. The audio modes vary with the type of disc: MONO LEFT,
MONO RIGHT, MIX MONO, STEREO, etc.
Note: DISC NOT SUPPORT appears if the disc does not support the audio mode.
3D Sound
The 3D sound feature is used when you connect your portable DVD player to a two-channel
stereo system.This feature enhances the sound quality and produces a greater simulated
surround effect.
During playback, repeatedly press the 3D button to cycle through the surround effects.The 3D
options appear on the screen.
Notes: 3D Sound only works on discuss encoded with Dolby, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby*Digital and DTS multi-
channel audio tracks.
DO NOT USE this feature if connecting to more than two speakers.
If connecting this unit to your TV, turn off the TV surround sound and other surround sound effects when using
this feature.
Zoom
The Zoom playback function is used to magnify an image and includes three options (x2, x3, x4).
In addition to magnifying the image, you can pan and scan.
1. While you’re playing a disc, press ZOOM (the player zooms in on the image). Each time you
press ZOOM, the picture is magnified even more.
2. To see other parts of the picture when you’ve zoomed in on the image, try pressing the
, ,, and buttons to go in corresponding directions.This feature is called pan and scan.

Camera Angle
Some discs contain multiple angles of a particular scene or sequence. If the disc only
has one angle, this feature won’t work. Currently, very few discs have this feature.
Press ANGLE repeatedly to choose the desired angle.The screen changes within one
to two seconds.
Note: Some DVD packaging indicate if the Camera Angle feature is available.
Repeat
By default, the Repeat feature is off.The options available depend upon the type of
disc you’re playing.
DVD: Chapter repeat, Title repeat, or A-B repeat.
VCD/CD: Single Track repeat, ALL tracks repeat, or A-B repeat.
Using the REPEAT Button (DVD)
• To repeat the current chapter, press the REPEAT button once. CHAPTER appears
briefly on the screen.The chapter repeats continuously.
• To repeat the current title, press the REPEAT button twice. TITLE appears briefly
on the screen.The title repeats continuously.
• To cancel Repeat play, press REPEAT until REPEAT disappears from the screen.
Using the REPEAT Button (CD/VCD)
• Select the track you want to repeat and press the REPEAT button once. TRACK
appears briefly on the screen. The track repeats continuously until the STOP
button is pressed.
• To repeat all tracks, press the REPEAT button twice, ALL appears briefly on the
screen.The CD repeats continuously until the STOP button is pressed.
• To cancel Repeat play, press REPEAT until REPEAT disappears from the screen.
Using the A-B REPEAT Button (DVD/CD/VCD)
A-B Repeat lets you define a specific segment on the disc that you want to repeat
during playback. Using the A-B REPEAT button lets you watch a scene over and over
or listen to a portion of a track.
Note: mp3 discs do not support this feature.
1. Press the A-B button to set point A at the beginning of the segment that you want
to repeat.
2. Allow the disc to play to the end of the segment you want to repeat to set point B.
Press the A-B button to set the B point (the segment will play repeatedly until you
turn off the Repeat feature). Don’t fast forward - the disc has to play in standard
playback mode.
3. To turn off the Repeat feature, press the A-B button a third time to cancel A-B
Repeat and return to normal playback. Repeat is also cancelled when you eject the
disc.

Random Playback (VCD, SVC and audio CD)
You can play all the tracks on the disc in random order (chosen by the DVD player).
Press the RANDOM button to start random playback. RANDOM appears on the screen. Press the
RANDOM button again to resume normal playback. OFF appears on the screen.
Playback Control (VCD 2.0 only)
The Playback Control offers scenes and information which can be selected interactively via a menu. It
can also be used to display high-resolution pictures, if the disc contains any.
Press the PBC button to turn the function on and off.
Note:This function may not be available on all VCDs.
Program Playback (DVDs,Audio CDs, some VCDs and SVCDs)
The program playback function is not available on mp3 CDs.The DVD player has a 20-track
programmable memory that allows you to enter the order of how you want the tracks to play. In
addition, you can program certain tracks to play more than once.
Bookmarks (DVD/VCD/CD)
The player can store up to 12 disc locations as long as the disc remains in the player and it is turned on.
These marks are similar to marking pages in a book.
Note: mp3 discs do not support this feature. Also, some discs may not work with the bookmark feature.
1. With a disc inserted, press the PROGRAM button.
PROGRAM appears on the screen.
2. Enter 2 numbers for each program track, title, or chapter.
The cursor jumps to the next program entry. Repeat this
step to add other entries (up to 20).
Notes: You can repeat a title or chapter more than once if desired.
To clear an entry, use the navigation , ,, and buttons to
highlight the entry and press CLEAR.
3. Use the navigation , ,, and buttons to select the
Start position.
4. Press PLAY to begin the program playback.
The player begins to play the first title/chapter that
you programmed and continues to play all of the titles/
chapters that you programmed in the order in which you
programmed them.
5. To stop program playback, press STOP.
Note: The program list is erased when the disc is removed or you
press the STOP button twice.
6. To exit the Program playback menu, press the PROGRAM
button again.

1. During playback, press BOOKMARK.The Bookmark
program appears on the screen.
2. To create a bookmark, select an unused bookmark using
the , ,, and buttons.
3. Press PLAY or ENTER when you locate a point on the
disc you want to replay at a later time.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3, to enter up to 12 bookmark. Press
BOOKMARK to resume playback.
5. To play bookmarks during playback, press BOOKMARK,
select the bookmark using the , ,, and buttons
and then press PLAY or ENTER.
6. To delete a bookmark, press BOOKMARK, select the
bookmark using the , ,, and buttons and press
CLEAR.
7. To exit the Bookmark program, press BOOKMARK.

Digest (DVD and VCD)
The Digest feature enables you to review the first few seconds of each track or chapter.You can choose
from several digest options.
DVD: Title Digest, Chapter Digest,Title Interval, Chapter Interval, and Bookmark Digest.
VCD: Track Digest, Disc Interval,Track Interval and Bookmark Digest.
Note: mp3 discs do not support this feature.
1. Press the DIGEST button during playback to display the
Digest menu.
2. Select one of the digest types and press ENTER:
Title/Chapter/Track Digest: shows a digest of all titles/
chapters/tracks available on the disc.
Title/Chapter/Disc/Track Interval: shows a digest of the
titles/chapters/tracks in 10-minute intervals.
Bookmark Digest: shows a digest of all the bookmarks
that you created on the disc with the Bookmark feature.
Highlight and select the Digest type (TRACK).
3. To display the next page, press or select NEXT.
4. To start playback from a specific title, chapter, track,
interval or bookmark, select it by using , ,, and
buttons and press ENTER, or input the corresponding
number in the Select box and press ENTER.
• To return to the digest menu, select Menu on screen,
and press ENTER.
• To return to normal playback, select Exit on screen,
and press ENTER or PLAY.

Playing mp3 and WMA Files
mp3 is an audio file format which compresses recorded music. It was developed by Fraunhofer
Gesellschaft in collaboration with Thomson Inc.The main advantage of the mp3 format is the ability to
store CD-quality music tracks on a personal computer in user-friendly compressed files.
WMA (Windows Media Audio) is another audio compression file format, developed by Microsoft
Corporation.
More detailed information on the specific file formats can be found in the “Additional Information” section
along with information on connecting a USB card reader to the portable DVD player.
Before inserting a disc, check that it is compatible with the player.

other countries.
1. Press the DOOR OPEN button to open the disc
compartment.
2. Place the disc in the tray with the printed side facing up
and close the compartment.The disc’s contents appear
on the screen.
3. Use the and down buttons to highlight a folder,
(Root, Main, or Sub). Press ENTER to see the folder’s
contents.
4. Select a file with the and down buttons and press
PLAY or ENTER to start playback.
Note: When playing an mp3 or WMA disc, the following functions
may be available: Mute, Audio Mode, Pause/Step, Previous/Next
Track, Forward/Reverse, Zoom, Subtitle, and Slow/F.
