I. General Information
Important notes on the operation of topolino tablet!
Please read them carefully prior to the operation of the reading system!
Information on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
Directive 2014/30/EU electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
This reading system is suited for use in all set-ups including the domicile that are
connected directly to a public power supply for buildings with residential purposes.
This reading system is designed for the use in the indicated electromagnetic envi-
ronment. The user should ensure the use in the indicated environment.
This reading system operates on HF-Energy exclusively for its own function.
Therefore the emitted interference of high frequency disturbances is very low and
the interference with other appliances operated close-by is improbable. When oper-
ating the reading system simultaneously with other systems, however, the possibility
of disturbances of the system or other systems should not be neglected.
For this reason it should be ensured that the system is not placed directly beside
or on top of another system. If the set-up of this system in the proximity of medi-
cal, measuring devices cannot be avoided, the operator of these devices has to be
informed that it is necessary to observe the performance of the system to control
the conventional use of the system in the chosen set-up.
Electronic devices are sensitive towards electric discharge and towards high fre-
quency electromagnetic fields.
Caution:
In order to avoid high frequency disturbances (e.g. microwaves) the operator
should respect a minimum distance of one meter/three feet to portable and mobile
HF-telecommunication devices.
Please also see chapter: Safety advice (page 7).
Storage of the user manual
The user manual is an essential part of your reading system. Please keep the book-
let in a safe place for future reference.
Product description
topolino tablet is an opto-electronic reading system with an integrated camera to
magnify text and pictures and to convert print into speech.

Purpose
This opto-electronic reading system with voice output is a medical device to assist
with the reading and magnifying of printed text and pictures (e.g. in the office, at
home and during leisure time).
Safety advice
topolino tablet has to be installed in closed and dry rooms only. Do not plug
topolino tablet into an electrical circuit that is also being used for any life sustaining
or support systems.
The device may not be used in the patients’ environment.
This device should not be operated in explosion-endangered environments. This
opto-electronic device should only be installed in conjunction with modern electrical
circuitry.
CE labeling
topolino tablet meets the basic requirements of the Low Voltage Directive
2014/35/EU, as well as other relevant and applicable regulatory require-
ments and standards.
Precaution by alteration of the performance of the system
Should any of the technical features or performances change (failure, malfunction
etc.), the device must be turned OFF and the battery must be taken out. Please
do not switch ON the device again. Refer directly to your authorized dealer or to
Reinecker Vision GmbH Service Center.
Reinstatement/installation and maintenance
This device may be technically maintained and reconditioned by Reinecker Vision
GmbH only or by an authorized technician. Reinstatement may only take place after
the system has been cleaned and safety checked.
Cleaning of the system
●Disconnect the topolino tablet from electric outlet before cleaning.
●Clean the system with a slightly damp cloth and a mild household detergent.
●Interior of device must NOT come in contact with liquids.

Special care needed when transporting and storing
For safety reasons, the unit must only be transported and stored in the original
packing. The unit must be stored in a dry, enclosed space, in the original packaging.
The following conditions for transport and storage should be respected:
●Air pressure 700 to 1000 hPa
●Temperature range +5°C to + 50°C
●Relative air humidity 30% to 80%
Environmental notice according to 2012/19/EU
MANO 6 contains electronic components. To avoid damage to the environ-
ment, the country-specific rules have to be respected.
Disposal or transfer of the device
This equipment may retain user settings and stored images if disposed of or trans-
ferred.
To reset the system to factory defaults, please follow the instructions in the Windows
Help on support.microsoft.com
Power supply
Only use the original power supply which is included in the delivery by Reinecker
Vision GmbH.
Caution: The use of any other power supply besides the original, might lead to
an increased electro-magnetic emission and to product damage.
Important note for scanning and reading of medication
leaflets
Dosing quantities that have been read by topolino tablet MUST always be double
checked and confirmed independently.
Always ask your doctor or pharmacist how to dose your medication, or refer to a
person of your trust.

II. Safety instructions
Please respect the following safety instructions:
1. Do not plug the AC adapter into a faulty electrical outlet. Doing so may cause
electrical shock or fire.
2. Do not touch the AC adapter with wet hands.
3. Only use the original power supply which is included in the delivery by Reinecker
Vision GmbH. The use of any other equipment might lead to a product damage.
4. If the system is equipped with batteries, only original parts from Reinecker Vision
GmbH should be used for replacement.
5. Do not expose the system to direct sunlight or extreme heat or cold tempera-
tures, as this would harm the picture quality.
6. Do not operate this device below +5°C or above +40°C.
7. Keep liquids away from the system. Only operate the device in a dry environ-
ment.
8. The device should not be operated next to medical devices (patients environ-
ment).
9 Do not lean on the screen, touch the screen with any object or lay heavy objects
on the device. This may cause damage to the device.
10. Do not try to repair or to dismantle the system on your own. This would immedi-
ately void the warranty. If you need any technical assistance please contact your
distributor or Reinecker Vision GmbH.
11. Always turn the system OFF and disconnect it from the power supply before
cleaning it. Only use a soft and slightly damped cloth. Only use a mild household
detergent. Do not use alcohol containing or strong detergents.

Setting up the system
Note: The device must be carefully removed from the packaging and placed on a
stable surface with sufficient space.
Initial operation
Before you use the device for the first time, you must fully charge the battery. For
more information, see „Handling the battery“ on page 25
Caution: The AC adapter provided is designed to be used with this system only. Do
not use any other AC adapter.
Folding up the topolino tablet
topolino tablet is supplied with a stand that holds the display in a suitable reading
position. The stand is equipped with a carrying handle for secure transport. To use
the topolino tablet, the stand must be folded up (see illustration) and the display
must be brought into a comfortable reading position.

To unfold the system, hold the base plate firmly with one hand so that you can use
the other hand to push the upper side of the stand upwards using the recessed grip.
Then align the display in the optimal reading position for you.
Caution:
If the display is not opened far enough to hold its position, it is possible that it
will automatically fold down again. In this case, you must slightly increase the
angle of inclination.

Ports and buttons on the device

Note: Only use the supplied AC adapter for mains operation or to charge the
battery.

Briefly press the power button to turn ON the system. When pressing the power
button for approx. 3 seconds while the system is turned ON, the option to turn
OFF the system by swiping down, appears. Alternatively, you can also switch off
the system via the Windows Start menu.
A short press while the system is on switches the system to sleep or standby
mode. Pressing it again deactivates the sleep or standby mode and the system is
ready for operation again.
Note: Please note that the system will not shut down completely in sleep or
standby mode and will continue to consume battery power. Please make sure that
the battery is not completely discharged. For more information on deep discharge,
see page 25.
Sleep or standby mode can be configured via the Windows system settings.

with microphone
Illumination of the reading templates
Illumination for better image quality and increasing accuracy of the text recognition is
integrated in the stand located directly under the display. On the left side of the illu-
mination there is a small switch which can be set in three different positions:
ON: Move the switch to the rear to turn illumination permanently ON.
OFF: Move the switch to the middle position to turn illumination permanently OFF.
Auto: Move the switch to the front to activate automatic lighting. In that mode, illu-
mination remains ON permanently as long as movement can be recognized. With
no movement for approx. 25 sec. light turns into energy saving mode and turns OFF
automatically. Once movement is being detected again, light turns ON automatically.
Note: we recommend to set the light to ON position, as motion sensor may be influ-
enced by alternating external light influences.
To charge the battery of the illumination
Use the supplied USB charging cable to charge the illumination. To do so, connect
the Micro-USB plug of the charging cable with the Micro-USB port on the left side of
the illumination and the USB type C plug with the USB type C port on the side of the
display. The unit must be switched ON to charge the battery.

Replacing the Illumination
The illumination of the stand is equipped with an LED light source. If it is necessary
to replace the illumination, this must be carried out by an authorised specialist or by
the customer service of Reinecker Vision GmbH.
Connecting the distance camera
To attach the distance camera, insert the spigot of the camera mount into the recess
provided on the top right of the tripod.
Then connect the USB 3 plug of the distance camera with the USB 3 port on the
side of the display.
Turn ON the system
Press the power button (see page 13) on the front of the display for about 4 sec-
onds to turn the system ON. Please wait until the MS-Windows 10 operating system
is booted and the desktop with the user programs is shown on the display.

Operation of topolino tablet
topolino tablet can be operated easily and intuitively via the touch screen.
Alternatively, you can connect mouse and keyboard (e.g. with Bluetooth) and control
the application software with the mouse or keyboard shortcuts. For a description of
the shortcut keys, see „Keyboard shortcuts“ on page 24 (only works when a coun-
try specific keyboard is connected).
Focus and magnification adjustment with the touch function
To focus and change the magnification in Document Mode, the following touch ges-
tures can also be used directly on the displayed image:
A white square appears on the display during focusing. When focusing is complete,
the square will change color to green for a short time and a beep will be heard.
In Distance Mode, you can move the already magnified image with
your fingers without re-adjusting the magnification on the distance
camera.

After the system was booting,

ly. To open it manually, go to
the eye symbol in the top left
corner and open the software,
e.g. with a double tap on the
touch display. After opening,
the system switches directly to

The topolino tablet user software
If the distance camera is connected, two different views are available. In Document
Mode, you can read and write using the camera located under the display. In
Distance Mode, you can view the image from the Distance Camera. For example,
if you want to copy a blackboard image, you can activate screen splitting and view
both camera images at the same time.
Show / Hide toolbar
By tapping the arrow symbol you can hide and show the toolbar. The
symbol page is located at the top of the screen by default. You can
adjust the position in the settings („General“ on page 21).

View magnified documents
You can change the magnification of the reading template or the distance
camera image with the zoom in/out icons. In Document Mode, you can
also use your fingers as described in „Focus and magnification adjustment
with the touch function“ on page 15
Saved images can be enlarged, reduced and moved using the touch func-
tion.

Change color modes
Tap the color modes icon to choose between the different screen color
modes:
true color mode
white on black
black on yellow
black on green
black on red
yellow on blue
grey scale mode
contrast-optimized true color mode
black on white
yellow on black
green on black
red on black
blue on yellow
Using the distance camera
If the distance camera is connected, the distance mode icon appears in
the toolbar. The distance camera is used to view objects (e.g. blackboard)
that are further away and can be easily adjusted by hand. Tap the distance
mode icon to switch from document mode to distance mode.
In distance mode you will find two new options in the toolbar.
Controls on top of the distance camera
Autofocus:
press the - / + buttons simultaneously to switch the autofocus of
the distance camera ON or OFF.
Zoom + / -:
The magnification can be continuously adjusted with the - / + buttons.
Return to document mode
To exit Distance Mode and return to Document Mode, tap the Document
Mode icon.
Split screen function ON/OFF
Screen splitting allows both camera images (distance camera and docu-
ment camera) to be shown on the display simultaneously. This can be use-
ful when, for example, you want to read from a blackboard and take notes.
Tap the icon to display the distance camera image in the upper half and
the reading camera image in the lower half. The camera on whose image
the toolbar is displayed is active and can be operated. Tap on the second
camera image to switch to the other camera. The toolbar is now displayed
there. To return to the distance camera view, tap the split screen icon
again.

Exiting the program
If you want to quit the topolino tablet software, tap on the X, then you will
return to the Windows start interface (desktop). If you tap the icon, e.g. in
read-aloud mode or in the settings, the current selection is canceled.
Text recognition and TTS function
The text recognition of the live image can be activated by pressing
the read aloud icon. The correct rotation of the text is automatically
detected and the text will be read aloud after a short time of processing.
You can save the captured text in a file, whereas the captured image will
not be saved.
Tip: Recording A4 documents
To record a A4 document in one step, move the display upwards until it is positioned
horizontally. Place the document horizontally under the display so that the entire A4
document is displayed on the display. After you have recorded the document, you
can move the display back into a comfortable reading position.
Use read-aloud function for saved images
Open the image you want to have read aloud as described in „Open saved images“
on page 20 and make your individual adjustments before you start reading.
Rotate images
If the captured image is turned sideways or upside down, you must rotate
the image before capturing it. Tap the yellow Rotate Image icon to rotate
the image clockwise in 90-degree increments.
Column detection ON/OFF
By default, the individual columns in the text are recognized and read
out column by column. For documents with a tabular structure, such as
invoices or bank transfers, the column recognition must be switched OFF
so that the text is read line by line. In this case, tap on the blue symbol at
the top center of the screen to deactivate column recognition. To reacti-
vate column recognition, tap the blue symbol again.

Starting text recognition and reading
If the image is correctly rotated and the column recognition is adapted to
the document, you can have the visible text in the image read aloud. Tap
on the read aloud symbol at the top right of the display and the text in the
image is recognized and read aloud.
TTS mode
There are two different viewing modes that you can set in the main menu under
“General” on page 21. In the original view you see the original image and the text
is marked at the position currently read aloud. In the wrapped mode, the image is
displayed in a previously selected color combination to optimize contrast. The color
combination can be set as described under „Reading“ on page 22.
Operation in the original view
By default, reading aloud starts immediately after the text recognition is completed.
To stop reading aloud, tap anywhere on the screen. To continue reading aloud, tap
on the point at which you want to start reading aloud.
To save a captured document as a text file, tap on the disk icon in the
upper right corner. The text is saved in the Documents folder “topolino tab-
let” with the current date as file name.
Operation in wrapped mode
In this mode reading aloud starts immediately after completion of the text recogni-
tion process and is operated using the symbols displayed. You can mark the text by
double-tapping on a text passage. If you press your finger on the marked text longer,
you can copy the corresponding text passages.

Save and open images
To take a picture, press the blue disk icon first, followed
by pressing the green camera icon. This image will be
saved within the folder „images“ topolino tablet, sorted by
date of capture.
This function is recommended if you need to recall an frequently. If you only need
the captured text without the image, you can also capture the live image and then
save only the text.
The saved images can be rotated and read aloud as described under „Text recogni-
tion and TTS function“ on page 18.
Open saved images
Tap the folder icon to access the saved image data. In the Image Files
menu window, all saved images are collected in folders and displayed in
chronological order. You can also rename folders by tapping the blue fold-
er icon. To delete folders, tap the red “Trash” icon.
Select an image file and open the folder with a short tap. While viewing the images
in full screen mode, you can set the desired zoom factor or color mode.
If there are multiple images in a folder, use the left and right
arrow keys to navigate through the open images.
Recording videos
If you want to record a video, you need to tap on the blue disk icon and then tap on
the video camera icon. To stop recording, tap the “stop” icon. The recording is saved
in the folder Videos --> “topolino tablet”.
