4 Device Description
4.1 General Information
The S67-RS-UNI-M12 is used to connect devices to an RS-232, RS-422 or
RS-485 interface. Furthermore, at two connections, two signal channels each
can be parameterized as digital input or digital output. The module provides
sufficient space to connect up to four digital actuators or sensors to control
magnetic valves, contactors as well as to analyze sensors, proximity
switches, etc.
The properties (e.g. filter times) of all module signal channels can be parame‐
terized individually:
● field bus-dependent via the device description file (e.g. GSD, GSDML)
of a field bus
or
● field bus-independent via an FDT/DTM frame application (e.g.
IndraWorks)
For detailed information on the module parameterization using the
field bus, refer to the corresponding documentation (e.g. "Rexroth
IndraControl S67 Profibus Coupler 8 Digital Inputs (M8))".
For detailed information on the module properties, refer to chapter
4.9 "Technical Data" on page 19.
The S67-RS-UNI-M12 module does not support higher protocol levels. All da‐
ta is transparently transmitted to the connected field bus master. One func‐
tion block is provided for IndraWorks to facilitate the module use.
Due to the reception buffer of 4096 bytes, the serial interface supports high
transmission velocities between the module and the connected device. It
does not depend on the field bus velocity. The transmission of the 4096 bytes
allows a fast sending of bigger grouped data.
The S67-RS-UNI-M12 module operates irrespective of the field bus used in
full or half duplex mode with up to 115,200 bauds (depends on the parame‐
terization).
The default operation mode is RS-485 half duplex. The standard data trans‐
mission rate is 9600 bauds. 1 starting bit, 8 data bits and 1 stop bit are sent.
There is neither parity generation nor data flow control.
Depending on the requirement, the S67-RS-UNI-M12 module can be com‐
prehensively reparameterized:
● Operation mode: RS-232 or RS-422/RS-485
● Baud rate: 300 … 115200
● Data bits: 7 or 8
● Stop bits: 1 or 2
● Parity: Even/uneven/without
● Flow control: RTS/CTS or XOn/XOff
In the RS-232 mode, the interface operation complies with the standards acc.
to TIA/EIA-232-F and CCITT V.28/DIN 66259-1. In the RS-485/RS-422
mode, the interface operation complies with the standards acc. to TIA/
EIA-485-A, DIN 66259. The bits are transferred acc. to ISO8482/DIN
66259-4.
