Replace a Recorder on a Rimage Producer II
Use this procedure to replace one or more recorders on an Autostar II™, Protégé II™ or Amigo II™.
Rimage approved parts must be used for this process. The product warranty may become void if parts not approved by Rimage are
used; equipment or parts are tampered with, misused, neglected, or modified in any respect without the written consent of Rimage.
Notes:
•Perform this procedure for each recorder you are replacing.
•Your system may not look exactly like the system pictured.
•The term “Producer II” is used throughout this document to refer to the Autostar II,Protégé II or Amigo II.
Before you begin
1. Stop or pause all jobs.
2. Power off the Producer II.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet.
#Required tools:
•Torx T10 screwdriver
Remove the Recorder
nCaution! Some cables in this system are latched. Equipment damage may occur if cables are not disconnected
appropriately.
1. Access the recorder cables.
a. At the back of the Producer II, remove the Torx
T10 screws (Qty. Amigo II = 4 or 6, Autostar
II/Protégé II = 4) that hold the back panel.
b. Lower or remove the back panel.

2. Disconnect the cables from the back of the recorder.
•FireWire cable (Qty. 1 or 2, depending on recorder position)
•Power cable
-Important! If you are replacing multiple recorders, note the cable configuration before disconnecting the
cables. You will need to match this configuration when you install the new recorders.

3. Open the front door.
4. Raise the lift arm to the top of the Producer II.
5. Remove the recorder from the front of the Producer II.
a. Loosen the screws (Qty. 2) that hold the
recorder.
Note: The recorder is mounted in one of
two ways.
•For a recorder with thumbscrews,
loosen the screws by hand.
•For a recorder with Torx T10
mounting screws (Qty. 2), loosen the
screws using a Torx T10 screwdriver.

b. Pull the recorder out the front of the Producer
II.
Install the Recorder
1. Slide the replacement recorder into the front of the
Producer II.
2. Connect the cables to the back of the recorder.
•FireWire cable (Qty. 1 or 2, depending on recorder position)
•Power cable
-Important! Be sure to match the original configuration of the cables. The bottom recorder is connected to the
FireWire cable from the back cover.

3. Install the back panel. If necessary, refer to the photos in step 1of the Remove the Recorder section on page 1.
a. Raise or position the back panel.
b. Insert and tighten the Torx T10 screws (Qty. Amigo II = 4 or 6, Autostar II/Protégé II = 4).

4. Connect the power cord to the Producer II.
5. Connect the power cord to the power outlet.
Tip: If necessary, align the recorder(s). Refer to the Align a Recorder document available at
www.rimage.com/support.html. Navigate: Producer Family > Support - product > Documents tab > Service >
Align a recorder.
Update the Rimage Software
-Important! Install the appropriate service pack included with the recorder. This ensures that the new recorder
is supported by your Rimage system.
If no service pack software was included with the recorder, be sure you have the most recent service pack
already installed.
Service packs and instructions are available at www.rimage.com/support.html. Navigate: Product Family >
Support – Rimage product > Downloads tab.
Note: Installing the appropriate Service Pack ensures recorder/system compatibility. However, your system may
not operate at peak performance unless you have upgraded your Rimage control center or installed current
Rimage software.
