Insert batteries and code chip before using for the first time
(meter will automatically switch on once batteries are inserted for the first time)
Setting the date format
Press the M button to select date format – (default dd-mm-yy)
Press the SET button to save the settings
Press the M button to select year
Press the SET button to save
Repeat these steps to set the month and the day
Press the M button to set desired time – (first choose 24 or 12 hour clock)
Press the SET button to confirm
Repeat these steps to set the hour and the minute
The meter then prepares for the first test. Press the SET button again several times until
INR flashes in bottom right, then press the SET button to confirm INR
(Selecting the unit – not needed for UK as default will be INR setting)

CoaguChek®XS settings
Preparing to test
Wash your hands
Prepare the lancet device by inserting a fresh lancet
Fix the lancet
Remember to close the strip container immediately after removing the test strip
Setting an audible alarm to sound at various
points of the test routine
Press the M button to turn on or off
Press the SET button to confirm
Setting therapeutic range (INR)
Press the M button to toggle between ‘off’ and ‘on’
Press the SET button to save the settings
Setting the lower limit
Press the M button to set the lower limit
(The range for the lower limit is 1.5 – 3.5 INR)
Press the SET button to save the settings
Setting the upper limit
Press the M button to set the upper limit
(the range for the upper limit is 2.5 – 4.5 INR)
The selectable range must be at least 0.1 INR above the lower limit you
have selected
Press the SET button to save the settings

Results display
Press the SET button to see the result in different units
You can view past results by pressing the M button. The date and time will also
be shown
Values outside the therapeutic range
Up arrow indicates a value above your target range
Down arrow indicates a value below your target range
End of test
Remove strip
Press ON/OFF button to turn the monitor off
Insert strip – meter turns on immediately when
strip is inserted
Check battery level
Make sure the number displayed is identical to the
code number printed on the test strip container
Press the M button once you have checked that
the code is correct
Wait for the strip to warm up
(the hour glass flashes once the strip has almost warmed up)
Once the strip is almost ready a 120 second countdown
will begin
Gently massage your finger before lancing
Lance the side of your fingertip
Apply blood drop to the strip within 15 seconds of
lancing your finger
Once you have applied enough blood, the blood droplet disappears
QC (Quality Control) will appear. Once it has finished, a tick will appear
next to QC
Hour glass will then flash until results are displayed
(you may remove the strip once measurements are complete and results are displayed)
