About This Publication This manual is a user guide providing procedures to install, connect, operate, and troubleshoot
your 6300B machine mount box PCs.
A general knowledge of automation technology is needed to understand and follow the
instructions in this publication.
Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft® Windows® operating systems (OS) are
required to understand and follow the instructions in this publication.

Terminology Machine Mount Box PC
Throughout this manual, the term “box PC” is used to refer to your 6300B machine mount box

Overview
Your box PC runs operations from small visual interface and maintenance applications to large
control and information applications. It comes standard with a selection of I/O ports for
peripheral connections and expansion slots.
Features Your box PC offers the following features:
• Available with the Microsoft® Windows® 10 Internet of Things (IoT) LTSC 2019 OS or
without an OS
• An Intel® Core™ i5 microprocessor
•A512GBsolid-statedrive(SSD)
• Two extractable bays on the front for 2.5-in. SATA III drives
• An internal USB port for activation dongles or other USB storage devices
• A cooling fan rated with a total power consumption between 10…20 W when using
expansion slots
• Wall-mount or shelf-mount installation using the supplied mounting kit

Prepare for Installation
Unpack Your Box PC Before you unpack your box PC, inspect the shipping carton for damage. If damage is visible,
immediately contact the shipper and request assistance. Otherwise, proceed with unpacking.
Your box PC ships with the following items.
Installation Precautions Read and follow these precautions before you install your box PC.
Environment and Enclosure Information
Keep the original packing material in case you must return your box PC for repair
or transport it to another location.
See the label on the side of your box PC to identify its catalog number (cat. no.).
Record this cat. no. for future reference.

ATTENTION: This equipment is:
• intended for use in a Pollution Degree 2 industrial environment, in overvoltage
Category II applications (as defined in IEC 60664-1), at altitudes up to 2000 m
(6561 ft) without derating.
• considered Group 1, Class A industrial equipment according to
IEC/EN 61326-1. Without appropriate precautions, there can be potential
difficulties with electromagnetic compatibility in other environments due to
conducted as well as radiated disturbance.
• considered open equipment, which means it must be mounted in an enclosure
where the equipment can be operated from the front panel.
The enclosure in which this equipment is installed must be accessed only with
a key or tool, and only by trained and authorized personnel.

UL/cUL Mark Compliance
Equipment with the UL/cUL mark complies with the requirements of UL 61010-1, UL 61010-2-
201, CSA C22.2 No. 61010-1, and CSA C22.2 No. 61010-2-201. A copy of the certificate of
compliance is available at rok.auto/certifications.
This equipment is not suitable for use in locations where children are likely to be present.
European Union Directive Compliance
This box PC meets the European Union Directive requirements when installed within the
European Union or EEA regions and have the CE marking. A copy of the declaration of the
conformity is available at rok.auto/certifications.
Installation Requirements Site Requirements
Your box PC can be installed in various installation sites, including mounting cabinets, control
cabinets, switch boards, or consoles. To make sure that your box PC provides service with
excellent reliability, the installation site must:
• have sufficient power,
• be indoors in an industrial or control room environment that uses some form of power
isolation from the public, low voltage mains,
• be stored in a surrounding air temperature range of -20…+60 °C
(-4…+140 °F).
• be kept away from direct sunlight, and
• operate in a surrounding air temperature of 0…50 °C (32…122 °F) with the relative
humidity of the ambient air 10…90% noncondensing.
Placement Requirements The placement of your box PC must:
• be at a suitable height,
• be attached to a flat, level surface (such as a shelf or against a wall),
- holes are provided on both sides of the box PC for side mounting installation and on
the bottom for an upright installation
• use the supplied mounting kit, and
ATTENTION: This equipment is intended to operate in an industrial or control
room environment, which uses some form of power isolation from the public
low-voltage mains.
Obtain permission from the local power authority before you connect any
computer configuration that draws more than 75 W of AC power directly from
the public mains.
All I/O cables must be used only indoors.
IMPORTANT Your box PC must not be exposed to a surrounding air
temperature above 50 °C (122 °F), especially when the PC is
mounted in an enclosure.
IMPORTANT When you use expansion cards, the factory-installed cooling fan
requires a maximum total power consumption of 20 W,
accounting for their power consumption.

• have at least 7.62 cm (3 in.) of clearance at the front and rear of your box PC. See
Approximate Dimensions on page 7 to determine this minimum clearance.
Power Connection
Guidelines
Follow these power connection guidelines for your box PC.
• Power cord guidelines are dependent upon your geographical location.
- For applications in North America: use the AC power cord provided, which is an IEC
60320 C14 receptacle with a NEMA 5-15P three-prong plug.
- For all other international applications: any IEC 60320 C13 power cord can be used.
• Supply your box PC circuit with its own disconnecting means.
• Use an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) (not supplied) to help protect against
unexpected power failure or power surges.
Tools and Hardware The following tools and hardware are required for your box PC installation.
IMPORTANT The required minimum clearance of 7.62 cm (3.00 in.) provides
adequate ventilation and adequate space to install and remove
peripheral cables and components (such as storage drives).
IMPORTANT Your box PC generates heat. Do not operate your box PC in an
enclosure without the minimum clearances unless adequate
ventilation or other cooling methods are used to lower the
temperature within the enclosure.
IMPORTANT The power supply input accepts 100…240V AC power to your box PC.
For ease of installation, you need two people to mount your box PC; one person
holds the box PC while the second person secures it to a wall or shelf.
IMPORTANT To comply with EN 61326-1, all I/0 peripheral cables must be shielded
and be rated for indoor use only. All USB cables must be less than
9.84 ft. (3.00 m) in length.
IMPORTANT The supplied AC power cord cannot be used if the power source is
greater than 125V. You must supply an AC power cord with a suitable
rating.

Installation
You can place your box PC on any flat, level surface in environments where vibration is present

1. Determine whether your box PC will be a wall-mount or shelf-mount installation.
• For wall-mount installation: The Z-shaped mounting bracket can only be attached
to the side of your box PC.

either the side or bottom of your box PC.
2. Be sure the placement provides adequate space to connect and reconnect I/O

Secure Your Box PC Follow the instructions below for your selected installation type.
For Wall-mount Installation
1. Attach the Z-shaped brackets to the side of your box PC.
a. Secure two shock absorbers (supplied) to the lower bracket with two self-locking
hexagonal nuts (supplied).
b. Tighten the self-locking hexagonal nuts to a torque of 2 N•m (17.71 lb•in).
c. Fasten the Z-shaped brackets to the side of your box PC with the washers and
screws (supplied).
d. Tighten the screws to a torque of to 2 N•m (17.71 lb•in).
2. Attach the L-shaped brackets to the wall.
a. Secure the remaining two shock absorbers (supplied) to the upper bracket with two
self-locking hexagonal nuts (supplied).
b. Tighten the self-locking hexagonal nuts to a torque of 2 N•m (17.71 lb•in).
c. Place the L-shaped mounting brackets against the wall. See Figure 4 on page 13 to
determine the location of the mounting holes.
d. With the L-shaped mounting brackets level, mark the mounting hole locations that
you selected in Table 3 on page 14.
e. Drill at the marked mounting hole locations.
f. Align the holes of L-shaped mounting brackets to the drilled mounting holes in the
wall.
g. Secure the L-shaped mounting brackets to the wall with four internal toothed
washers (not supplied) and four screws (not supplied).
h. Tighten the screws the suggested torque to the value shown in Table 3 on page 14.
For ease of installation, you need two people to mount your box PC; one person
holds the box PC while the second person secures it to the wall.
IMPORTANT To meet the shock and vibration specification, the shock absorbers
must be attached and secured to your box PC with the self-locking
hexagonal nuts.

3. Place your box PC onto the L-shaped mounting brackets.
4. Attach the four self-locking hexagonal nuts (supplied) to the shock absorbers to the L-
shaped mounting brackets.
5. Tighten the self-locking hexagonal nuts to a torque of 2 N•m (17.71 lb•in).
For Shelf-mount Installation
1. Prepare the shelf.
a. Be sure that the shelf is level.
b. Use a carpenter square to position the Z-shaped brackets on the shelf. See Figure 4
on page 13 or Figure 5 on page 14 to determine the location of the mounting holes.
c. Mark the mounting hole locations determined in Table 3 on page 14.
d. Drill at the marked mounting hole locations.
2. Attach the four shock absorbers.
a. Insert four shock absorbers (supplied) through the drilled mounting holes in the
shelf.
b. Secure each shock absorber with a self-locking hexagonal nut (supplied).
c. Tighten the self-locking hexagonal nuts to a torque of 2 N•m (17.71 lb•in)..
IMPORTANT To meet the shock and vibration specification, the shock absorbers
must be attached and secured to your box PC with the self-locking
hexagonal nuts.

3. Attach the Z-shaped brackets to the bottom of your box PC with the washers and
screws (supplied).
4. Tighten the screws to a torque of 2 N•m (17.71 lb•in).
5. Align the bracket holes with the posts of the shock absorbers and set your box PC on
the shelf.
6. Attach a self-locking nut onto each shock absorber to the underside of the shelf.
7. Check that the self-locking nuts on the shock absorbers are at a torque of
2 N•m (17.71 lb•in).
Connect the Box PC Connect the Peripheral Cables
1. See Peripheral Connections on page 8 for I/O port locations.
2. Connect peripheral cables (not supplied) to the front and/or back of your box PC.
IMPORTANT Do not connect the AC power cord to your box PC until instructed to do
so. See Connect the AC Power on page 18.
IMPORTANT Do not power on your box PC until instructed to do so.
IMPORTANT To comply with EN61326-1, all I/O cables must be shielded and
rated for indoor use only. USB cables must be less than
9.84 ft (3 m) in length. See Grounding and Bonding for guidance.

Grounding and Bonding
Whenever two connected pieces of equipment are far apart, it is possible that their ground
connections could be at a different potential level.
To overcome possible grounding problems, the following bonding methods are recommended:
•Method 1: Connect the data cable shields to the equipotential bonding rail on both sides
before connecting the cable to the interfaces.
•Method 2: Use an equipotential bonding cable (16 mm2or AWG 6) to connect the
grounds between your monitor and your mbox PC.
Connect Network Cables
1. Locate the two 1 Gb LAN ports at the rear of your box PC.
See Peripheral Connections on page 8.
2. Insert one end of a CAT5 or CAT5e twisted-pair Ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors
(not supplied) into the LAN port.
3. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable to your network.
Connect the AC Power
Use the Functional Ground Screw (optional)
Install the Ground Wire
To install the ground wire, perform the following steps.
1. Turn off the main power switch or breaker.
2. Remove the supplied nut, eyelet terminal, and washers from the ground screw located
at the rear panel of the box PC. See Peripheral Connections on page 8.
3. For earth ground, fasten a 1.5 mm2(16 AWG) or larger external wire to the eyelet
terminal.
4. Install the ground wire to the ground screw in the following sequence.
5. Tighten the ground screw.
IMPORTANT • To help prevent performance degradation of Ethernet communication,
do not subject the box PC or cables to extreme radiation or conducted
high-frequency noise.
• In industrial environments, proper cable routing and power conditioning
are required for Ethernet communication. We recommend that you
route all Ethernet cabling through dedicated metal conduits. For
improved performance, install ferrite bead filters at the cable ends.
The pre-installed functional ground screw is not required for safety or regulatory
compliance. If a supplemental ground is desired, use the functional ground screw
that is located on the rear panel of the box PC.
Use ground wire with an insulation color that is approved by your local
inspection authority.

Connect to the Power Source
1. Connect the AC power cord to the AC power input located at the rear of your box PC. See
Peripheral Connections on page 8 to identify its location.
2. Connect the AC power cord to a power source with an earth ground.
3. Apply 100…240V AC power to your box PC.
SHOCK HAZARD: Failure to connect the AC power cord to a power
source with an earth ground can result in electrical shock.
ATTENTION: When you connect power to the box PC for the first time,
the following actions occur:
For box PCs with a Windows® OS: you must read and accept an End
User Setup procedure.
• Do not disconnect power from the system until after the setup
procedure is completed. If power is disconnected during this
procedure, it can result in a corrupted system image.
• Always shut down the Windows OS before you disconnect power to the
box PC to minimize performance degradation and OS failures.
For box PCs with another OS: the default universal extensible
firmware interface (UEFI) setting automatically starts the box PC after
it is plugged into a power source.
