Allgemeines
Der HZO40 200 MHz Differenztastkopf eignet sich bestens für Messaufgaben an schnellen differentiellen
Signalen. Solche Signale sind in modernen digitalen und Leistungsschaltungen sowie in seriellen Busan-
wendungen wie CAN zu nden. Die HZO40 kann über einen USB Port oder Batterie betrieben und an alle
Oszilloskope mit 50 Ω BNC Eingang angeschlossen werden. Bei Oszilloskopen ohne 50 Ω Eingang muss
ein 50 Ω Durchführungswiderstand wie der HAMEG HZ22 genutzt werden.
Der Tastkopf verfügt über einen Eingangswiderstand von 1 MΩ und eine Eingangskapazität von 3,5 pF,
diese Kombination sichert eine geringe Belastung der zu testenden Schaltung. Der HZO40 verfügt über ein
10 : 1 Teilung, welche die Anwendungsgebiete stark erweitert.

ken auf mechanische Beschädigungen oder lose
Teile. Im Falle einer Bechädigung informieren Sie
unverzüglich das Transportunternehmen.
Verwenden Sie den Tastkopf im Falle einer
Beschädigung nicht und stellen Sie sicher, daß
niemand mit dem Tastkopf arbeiten kann.

Sicherheitshinweise
Der Tastkopf entspricht den europäischen Stan-
dards EN 61010-1 resp. IEC 61010-1.
Um Personenschäden zu vermeiden und Brand
oder Beschädigung dieses Produktes und der an-
geschlossenen Produkte vorzubeugen, lesen und
befolgen Sie die nachstehenden Sicherheitsmaß-
nahmen. Beachten Sie, dass bei unsachgemäßer
Verwendung die Schutzfunktionen, die dieses
Produkt bietet, beeinträchtigt werden.
– Dieses Messzubehör darf nur von fachlich
qualiziertem Personal verwendet werden.
– Schließen Sie diesen Tastkopf nur an geerdete
Messgeräte an.
– Schließen Sie den Anschluss-Stecker des
Tastkopfes an das Messgerät, bevor Sie die
Taskopfspitzen mit den Messpunkten kon-
taktieren. Entfernen Sie die Tastkopfspitzen
des Tastkopfes vom Messpunkt, bevor Sie den
Tastkopf vom Messgerät trennen.
– Legen Sie an den Tastkopf kein Potential an,
das die maximalen Bemessungsdaten des
Tastkopfes übersteigt.
– Halten Sie sich fern von gefährlichen Strom-
kreisen.
– Vermeiden Sie das Arbeiten an offenen und
ungeschützten Stromkreisen. Halten Sie
sich fern von Anschlüssen oder Bauteilen, bei
denen Berührungsgefahr besteht.
– Verwenden Sie nur einwandfreies Messzube-
hör.
– Lassen Sie dieses Produkt nur von fachlich
qualiziertem Personal instand setzen.
– Verwenden Sie dieses Messzubehör nur in
geschlossenen Räumen.
– Verwenden Sie dieses Messzubehör niemals
in feuchter Umgebung oder unter dem Einuss
von Dämpfen. Halten Sie das Produkt trocken
und sauber.
– Verwenden Sie das Produkt nicht in explosiver
Umgebung.
Umgebungsspezikationen
Der Betriebstemperaturbereich liegt bei +5 °C ...
+40 °C. Der Transport- und Lagertemperturbe-
reich ist –20 °C ... +70 °C. Kondensationsfeuchte
nach Transport muss vor der Inbetriebnahme
abgebaut sein. Der Tastkopf ist für den Betrieb
in sauberen und trockenen Räumen vorgesehen.
Gewährleistung und Reparatur
HAMEG Geräte unterliegen einer strengen Qua-
litätskontrolle.
Jedes Gerät durchläuft vor dem Verlassen der
Produktion „Burn in-Test“. Im intermittierenden
Betrieb wird dabei fast jeder Frühausfall erkannt.
Anschließend erfolgt ein umfangreicher Funk-
tions- und Qualitätstest bei dem alle Betriebs-
arten und die Einhaltung der technischen Daten
geprüft werden. Bei Beanstandungen innerhalb
der gesetzlichen Gewährleistungsfrist wenden Sie
sich bitte an den Händler, bei dem Sie Ihr HAMEG
Produkt erworben haben.
Um den Ablauf zu beschleunigen, können Kun-
den innerhalb der Bundesrepublik Deutschland
die Gewährleistungsreparatur auch direkt mit
HAMEG abwickeln.
Für die Abwicklung von Reparaturen innerhalb der
Gewährleistungsfrist gelten unsere Gewährlei-
stungsbedingungen, die im Internet unter http://

Nutzung von Tastkopf und Zubehör
über den HAMEG-Service (Tel: [phone]

Reinigung
Verwenden Sie für die Reinigung des Tastkopf-
gehäuses ein weiches Tuch, das ggfs. mit destil-
liertem Wasser angefeuchtet wird. Lassen Sie
den Tastkopf vor Gebrauch vollständig trocknen.
Handhabung
Seien Sie vorsichtig, besonders wenn Sie mit
scharfen Spitzen arbeiten, um Verletzungen zu
vermeiden. Beachten Sie, dass das Tastkopfkabel
ebenfalls ein empndliches Bauteil des Tastkopfs
ist. Beschädigen Sie es nicht durch übermäßiges
Verbiegen oder Ziehen. Vermeiden Sie generell
mechanische Überlastungen, um die Leistung und
den Schutz dieses Produkts nicht zu beeinussen.
Nutzung von Tastkopf und Zubehör
Um diesen Tastkopf zu benutzen müssen Sie eine
Spannungsversorgung sicherstellen. Wenn Sie
ihn mit einer Batterie betreiben wollen, öffnen Sie
das Batteriefach auf der Rückseite des Tastkopfes
und legen die 9 V Blockbatterie wie im Bild gezeigt
ein. Wenn Sie die externe Spannungsversorgung
verwenden, verbinden Sie das mitgelieferte USB
Spannungskabel mit dem Tastkopf und einem USB
Anschluss eines Rechners, des Oszilloskopes oder
alternativ eines Netzgerät mit USB Anschluss.
Anschluss ext. Stromversorgung
Batterienutzung
Legen Sie eine 9 V Blockbatterie wie beschrieben
hinten in das Gehäuse des Tastkopfes ein. (Siehe
Bild für Lage der Batterie). Ist die Batterie ver-
braucht, entfernen Sie diese. Beachten Sie die
WEEE Kennzeichnung auf der Batterie und entsor-
gen Sie diese korrekt.
Verbinden Sie nun den BNC Ausgang des Tast-
kopfes mit dem Eingangskanal des Oszilloskopes.
Das Oszilloskop muss einen 50Ω Eingang haben
und geerdet sein. Wenn das Gerät über keinen
50Ω Eingang verfügt, nutzen Sie bitte einen 50Ω
Durchführungsabschluss wie den HAMEG HZ22.
Nutzen Sie die mitgelieferten Zubehörteile, um
die Eingänge mit dem Testobjekt zu verbinden.
– Nutzen Sie nur das mitgelieferte Zubehör,
um elektrische Schläge zu vermeiden.
– Dieser Tastkopf ist für die differentielle
Messung zwischen zwei Punkten ei-
ner Schaltung vorgesehen, nicht für die
elektrische Isolation des Prüings vom
Messgerät.
Feder- und Krokodilklemmen
Diese Zubehörteile können auf die Tastkopfan-
schlusskabel gesteckt werden, wie in untenste-
hendem Bild zu sehen.
Nutzen Sie die Federklemmen für kleinere Bautei-
le und die Krokodilklemmen für größere.

General Information
The HZO40 200 MHz Differential probe is best suited for measurements of high-speed differential signals.
These signals are commonly used in digital and power applications and especially at serial buses like
CAN. The HZO40 can be powered by USB or battery and is compatible with all oscilloscopes with 50 Ω BNC
inputs. Scopes without 50 Ω input need a 50 Ω feed through BNC adapter like the HAMEG HZ22. The probe
does have an high input resistance of 1 MΩ combined with 7 pF input capacitance. This secure a low loading
of the device under test. The attenuation of the HZO40 is 10 : 1 which broaden the application range a lot.

To avoid personal injury and to prevent re or
damage to this product or products connected
to it, review and comply with the following safety
precautions. Be aware that if you use this probe
assembly in a manner not specied the protection
this product provides may be impaired.
– Only qualied personnel should use this
probe assembly.
– Use only grounded instruments.
– Connect and disconnect properly.
– Connect the probe output to the measure-
ment instrument and connect the ground
lead to earth ground before connecting the
probe to the circuit under test. Disconnect
the probe input and the probe ground lead
from the circuit under test before discon-
necting the probe from the measurement
instrument. Observe probe ratings.
– Do not apply any electrical potential to the
probe input which exceeds the maximum
ratings of the probe.
– Keep away from live circuits.
– Avoid open circuitry. Do not touch connec-
tions or components when power is present.
– Do not operate with suspected failures.
– Refer to qualied service personnel.
– Indoor use only.
– Do not operate in wet/damp environment.
Keep product surfaces dry and clean.
– Do not operate the product in an explosive
atmosphere.
Operating conditions
The permissible operating temperature is +5 °C
... +40 °C. During transport and storage the
temperature may be –20 °C ... +70 °C. In case of
condensation after transport it is necessary to
dry the probe for at least 2 hrs. prior to operation.
The instrument is destined for operation in clean,
dry rooms.
Warranty and Repair
HAMEG instruments are subjected to a strict
quality control. Prior to leaving the factory, each
instrument is burnt-in. By intermittent operation
during this period almost all defects are detected.
Following the burn-in, each instrument is tested
for function and quality, the specications are
checked in all operating modes; the test gear is
calibrated to national standards.
The warranty standards applicable are those of
the country in which the instrument was sold.
Reclamations should be directed to the dealer.
Only valid in EU countries
In order to speed reclamations customers in EU
countries may also contact HAMEG directly. Also,
after the warranty expired, the HAMEG service will
be at your disposal for any repairs.
Return material authorization (RMA):
Prior to returning an instrument to HAMEG ask
for a RMA number either by internet (http://www.
hameg.com) or fax. If you do not have an original

shipping carton, you may obtain one by calling
the HAMEG service dept ([phone]) or by
sending an email to [e-mail].
Cleaning the Probe
Disconnect the probe and clean it with a soft cloth.
Make sure the probe is completely dry before
reconnecting it to an instrument. Avoid using ab-
rasive cleaners and chemicals containing benzene
or similar solvents.
Handling the Probe
Handle the probe with care and refer to the safety
notices in this manual. Note that the probe cable
is a sensitive part of the probe and, therefore,
you should be careful not to damage it through
excessive bending or pulling. You should also
avoid any mechanical shocks to this product in
order to guarantee accurate performance and
protection.
Using the probe and accessories
To use the probe, first slide open the battery
compartment on the rear of the probe housing
and insert the 9V battery. You can also use the
USB power cord that ships with the probe to supply
power instead of the battery. Simply connect the
USB power cord to the probe and a USB port (on
a computer or oscilloscope).

• To use these probes, first slide open the battery compartment on the rear of the probe
housing and insert the 9V battery. You can also use the USB power cord that ships
with the probe to supply power instead of the battery. Simply connect the USB power
cord to the probe and a USB port (on a computer or oscilloscope). 


Battery Use
• Insert one 9V battery in the back of the unit as indicated within the chassis (see
picture above for the battery location)
• When battery life has expired, remove the battery

Note the WEEE label on the battery and dispose of properly
• Then connect the BNC output connector to the channel input of the oscilloscope.
The oscilloscope must have a 50 W input and be ground referenced.
• Using the appropriate probe accessories, connect the inputs to the circuit under test
(refer to the Using the Accessories section starting on page 18 for information on
how to connect the accessories to the probes). 

To protect against electrical shock, use only the accessories supplied with this probe
or in the accessory kit. 

This probe is to carry out differential measurements between two points on the circuit
under test. This probe is not for electrically insulating the circuit under test and the
measuring instrument.

Battery Use
Insert one 9V battery in the back of the unit as

battery and dispose of properly.
Then connect the BNC output connector to the
channel input of the oscilloscope. The oscilloscope
must have a 50Ω input and be ground referenced.
In case the oscilloscope does not provide a 50Ω
input please use a 50Ω feed through termination
like the HAMEG HZ22.
Using the appropriate probe accessories, connect
the inputs to the circuit under test (refer to the
Using the Accessories section).

in the accessory kit.
– This probe is to carry out differential
measurements between two points on the

Hook and Alligator Clips
These accessories can be pushed onto the probe
leads as shown below.
