HP-Series
A new era of quality, expression, and authenticity …
introducing the Roland HP500-series pianos
The beauty and authenticity of Roland’s nest V-Piano Grand has now arrived in the HP series. With the full sound and expressive soul of a grand, these classy,
compact pianos offer agship performance in a space-saving footprint. Equipped with Acoustic Projection technology — an innovative, multi-dimensional
sound system that intelligently reproduces the natural depth and soundeld of an acoustic piano — as well as SuperNATURAL Piano sound engines, the new
HP500 series offers unsurpassed performance and realism in an elegant, spinet format.

Resonant, multi-dimensional soundeld
The unique sound space that is created when you play an acoustic piano — the resonance
between strings and the resonance from the piano’s frame or body — is realized in the HP500
series through a complex and yet harmonious combination of elements. The HP507 and HP505
create this realistic sound space through Acoustic Projection technology, which marries the
multi-dimensional sound system found in our flagship V-Piano Grand with the SuperNATURAL
Piano sound engine. The HP507 comes with six specially designed speakers that are located
properly to project each element in its natural position — from the resonant tones emanating
from the top that engulf the player (Spatial speakers) to the direct and dynamic sounds that
the player senses as the hammer hits the strings (Nearfield speakers), as well as the resonant
and dynamic lows that are produced near the player’s feet (Cabinet speakers). The HP505’s
Acoustic Projection system employs four specially designed speakers, including Spatial/
Nearfield speakers and Cabinet speakers. The sound elements from each speaker are
intelligently blended to reproduce the true soundfield of an acoustic piano, resulting in a natural,
multi-dimensional listening experience.
Vibrant, immersive sound
Equipped with our acclaimed SuperNATURAL Piano Sound Engine, the HP500 series has
been designed to deliver the world’s best piano sounds. This was created through a marriage
of an 88-key multi-sampled sound engine and the award-winning technology used in our
V-Pianos. The result is a stunningly faithful reproduction of the tonal and resonant behavior of
each individual key across the keyboard.
Perfect touch
Pianos produce differences not only in volume, but also subtle
variations in tonal color depending on how forcefully the key is
struck. The HP500 series’ SuperNATURAL Piano sound engines
deliver natural and seamless changes in tonal color in response
to the player’s touch. With their expanded dynamic range, these
pianos support the most demanding and subtle techniques, just
as one would expect from an acoustic grand piano.
Natural tone
The natural decay of notes and beautiful lingering tones
are essential elements of a piano’s sound. The decaying
sound of an acoustic piano not only decreases in volume,
but also gradually changes in color to a softer tone. The
SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine replicates this natural
decay, just like an acoustic grand.
Authentic Fortepiano Onboard
In addition to the selection of onboard grand-piano sounds, the new HP500 series features a
newly added Early Piano category containing four fortepiano variations and two harpsichord
variations. Masterpieces composed by maestros such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin
can be played with the original sounds from the period. The
appreciation and understanding for the piece is heightened
when using the instrument that was actually used by the
composers. You can also play these early piano sounds with
built-in historic temperaments, which are ideal to play with
other classical instruments.
Unique expression in every key
Each of the 88 notes on a grand piano has its own character, due to the fact that the strings
are different sizes and lengths, are composed of different materials, and are struck by hammers
of different sizes. These differences create variations in the tonal color and resonance of each
note. For the SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine, we sampled all 88 notes of a variety of
world-class pianos and used our unique digital technology to faithfully reproduce the full, rich
tone and expressiveness of the world’s finest pianos.

Characteristics of the HP507’s speakers:
Spatial speakers: These speakers create a unique sense of sound space in
which the player is engulfed from above by a variety of vibrant and ambient sounds,
including resonance created by the piano’s frame or when a damper pedal is pressed.
Nearfield speakers:
These produce direct and dynamic sounds that the player
will hear most directly, including string resonance and noise elements that are created from
keyboard movements. This gives the player an immediate, realistic sense of response.
Cabinet speakers: These speakers support the entire sound with dynamic
lows and resonance from the soundboard and cabinet.
*HP505 incorporates Spatial/Nearfield speakers that project a variety of resonances and direct, dynamic sounds.

Exquisite clarity
The built-in “Piano Designer” feature lets you customize
tones by making fine adjustments to the resonance between
strings and other nuances. The Soundboard behavior
function (HP507/505/503) faithfully reproduces the behavior
of the soundboard, such as the subtle differences in
harmonic make-up and resonance based on the number
of notes played and chord-note intervals. As a result, the
HP500 series performs like a well-tuned acoustic piano
even when many notes are played at once. Each note is
perfectly defined and clear.

Ease of use — the Roland advantage
The simple and intuitive control panel affords quick and easy
access to the HP500 Series’ numerous features and functions;
the LCD provides a friendly visual interface. Frequently used
connection jacks or connectors, such as headphone jacks, or USB
memory connector are conveniently located near the front of
all
models; a handy headphone hook is provided for convenient storage.
Beautiful cabinet design and nishes compliment any décor
Not only do the HP500 pianos sound great, they look stunning as well. The elegant form
incorporates the curves that are found in the styling of traditional upright pianos. The front legs
add both stability and style. Brass music holders*1and large music rests*2help you manage
your manuscripts. The three pedals have a traditional lateral design that allows smoother pedal
movements. All models feature the “Classic” key lid position to conceal the control panel and
display when desired. Available finishes include the traditional satin black, a warm rosewood
wood grain, and a mirror-like polished ebony*3.

Digital conveniences
Since they are digital, HP pianos never need to be tuned, so you can enjoy perfect piano
sounds year round in any climate. You can adjust the volume to suit the room you are playing in,
and can also use headphones for private practice day or night. Another digital advantage is that
these pianos are lightweight, compact, and relatively easy to transport. They also come packed
with a range of functions that are useful for practicing, including
an onboard metronome and a Twin Piano function that lets you
split the keyboard into two zones so two players can play side
by side in the same register. The AB Repeat feature is also great
for your practice/training sessions, especially when using the
onboard lesson songs, as it lets you practice designated parts
repeatedly. The HP500 series offers eight types of tunings,
including equal temperament.
Built-in audio/MIDI recorder with exible control
A recorder is built into all HP500-series pianos for capturing your performances as audio and/
or MIDI data — a very convenient feature for pianists as well as students who want to evaluate
their playing. Flexible controls such as Center Cancel, Transpose, and Tempo Change are
available for audio data (HP507/505/503).You can also connect an external digital music
player to the input jacks, play a song file, and the HP507 and 505 can transpose it in real time.
You can even minimize the melody of an audio song using Center Cancel function. Play along
and capture your performance as audio data. Recorded audio data can be saved onto USB
memory, and copied to an external computer for making audio CDs or for uploading to the
Internet.
* USB memory is required for audio recording.
* The HP503 captures your performance as well as play backed SMF data as audio data.
Environmentally conscious design
The HP500 series was designed not only with piano quality in mind, but the environment as well.
Its maximum power consumption is significantly reduced compared to the previous series (less
than 1/3 power draw by comparison), and yet the new models offer enhanced volume and sound
pressure! When used under normal conditions in a typical household, the instruments’ power
consumption is around 34W, 11W, and 8W respectively*. The HP500 series also has an Auto Off
function that, when activated, can turn power off after a certain amount of specified non-activity.
* These figures were measured according to the method that is based on Roland's technical standard.
Perfect Form
Expand Your Enjoyment
All HP series models feature the Classic Position.
Attention to every detail
The length of the hidden portion of the keys has been made
as long as possible, so that the fulcrum is located farther back
on the keys. This reduces the difference in touch response
from the front to the rear of the keys, replicating the longer
keys and superior response of a grand piano and further
enhancing the natural playing feel.
Personalized touch
On all Roland digital pianos, you can select your favorite touch sensitivity – from light to
standard and heavy. You can adjust the touch response of your keyboard depending on how
strong your fingers are or for particular practice objectives.
*The HP507 offers 100 types of the key response.
Real-feel keyboard
The HP505 and HP507 are equipped with Roland’s flagship PHAIII (Progressive Hammer
Action III) Ivory Feel keyboard with Escapement. The HP503 contains an Ivory Feel-S keyboard
with Escapement. With fast key-repetition and sensitivity, these keyboards faithfully translate
into sound the subtle differences in tones from different playing styles and force at which
they are played. The keys are finished with material that provides
moisture-absorbing properties, resulting in a keyboard with the
natural texture and tactile sensation of real ivory and ebony.
*The HP503 is equipped with an Ivory Feel-S keyboard featuring the same functions as
PHAIII keyboard with one-piece construction. Progressive Damper Action Pedal
HP500-series pianos are equipped with Progressive Damper Action pedal, which offer light
resistance at the beginning of the stroke and more resistance the instant they begin to take
effect, just like real acoustic pianos. This makes it easy for the performer to know when the
pedal begins take effect, and also enables half-pedal techniques for subtle control of aftertones
and resonance.

The wood used to make our digital-piano cabinets
is imported from Indonesia. In 2008, Roland
designated a 100-hectare area for tree planting,
where the company has been planting trees for
environmental purposes. The area contains a
mixture of protected forest and trees designated for
digital-piano-cabinet production.This forestation
project is expected to offset approximately 10,000
tons of CO2 over a period of 20 years.
At Roland, several group companies have obtained ISO9001 certification. In addition, in January 1999, Roland also
received ISO14001 international environmental management system certification. We’re actively seeking ways to
maintain harmony with the environment.
(ISO=International Standardization Organization: an organization for the promotion of
standardization of international units and terms. They provide different categories of
certification: ISO9001 Series certification is a product quality certification for products
that undergo a certain level of quality control from the design stage to the after service
