Power-cord connector Use this to connect the power cable.
Loading lever (rear) Operate this when you load media.
Media holders
Use these when you load media.
Shas
Media stays
UV shield (rear) Blocks the light from the UV lamp. If it is dicult to load the media,
open the UV shield, but close it when you are nished loading the
media. Prinng is not possible with the UV shield open.
Drain bole Discharged uid is stored in this bole. When discharged uid is
nearly overowing from the bole, an error is displayed and prinng
is not possible.
Ethernet connector Use this to connect an Ethernet cable.

Front Cover Interior/Print Head Area
No. Name Funcon overview
Print-head carriage The print heads are inside here.
UV-LED device Shines the UV light used to cure the ink.
Cung carriage The blade and the separang knife are inside here.
Grit roller These rollers feed the media.
Pinch roller
(le pinch roller, right pinch roller, and middle pinch roller)
These clamp the media when the loading lever is lowered. These
rollers are called the le pinch roller, the right pinch roller, and the
middle pinch roller according to their posions.
Media clamp This clamps the edge of the media to keep it from coming loose. It
also prevents fuzz on the cut edge of the media from touching the
print heads.

Grit paerns These indicate the locaons of the grit rollers. When loading me-
dia, be sure to place the pinch rollers within the ranges indicated
by these paerns.
Blade protector This is the path that the blade takes during cung. It protects the
p of the blade.
Platen This is the path over which the media passes. A sucon fan that
keeps the media from coming loose is built in.
Apron Smoothly conveys the media that is being transported.
Wiper Cleans the print heads during automac cleaning and in similar sit-
uaons.
If a Cover Opens during Operaon
If the front cover, le cover, right cover, or UV shield (rear) (hereinaer these items are all referred to as the "cov-
er") opens during an output operaon, the machine makes an emergency stop. When an emergency stop occurs, a
message prompng you to close the cover appears on the screen. Close the covers as directed in the instrucons
shown on the screen.
When the cover is closed, you will be able to connue the operaon.
If you cannot connue the operaon even aer you close the cover, a nonrecoverable error may have occurred.
Refer to Error Messages(P. 272) for details.

Sub power switch This switches the printer on and o. (To
switch the printer o, hold down the
switch for one second or longer). The light
ashes slowly when the machine is in
sleep mode.
ENTER ENTER key Use this for such tasks as enabling seng
values.

Types of Media
In this manual, the paper used for output is called "media." The two main types of media used in this machine are
shown below.
• Roll media: Media wound onto a paper tube
• Sheet media: Media not wound onto a paper tube such as standard-size media
Various paper types of roll media and sheet media are selectable according to your purpose. For detailed informa-
on about each media, contact your media supplier.
About the Media Used

Condions for Usable Media
This machine cannot print on every kind of media. When selecng media, be sure to carry out tesng in advance
to make sure that sasfactory prinng results are obtained.

If using the take-up unit, this specicaon depends on the condions of the take-up unit.
Other Condions
Media such as the following cannot be used.
• Media whose end is aached to the paper tube (core)
• Media that is severely warped or that has a strong tendency to reroll
• Media whose paper tube (core) is bent or crushed
• Media that bends under its own weight when loaded
• Media on a sagging roll
• Media that is rolled unevenly
