The exposure meter has two measuring
ranges controlled by a switch ar rhe rop
of the meter cell. With the switch
pushed upwards, the meter reads ex-
posure values in bright light; the appro-
priate exposure value is read off in the
front exposure value window (left). In
poor light conditions push the switch
downwards and read off the exposure
value
in the rear window on the rim of rhe
focusing knob (right).

controls interlock again.
Selectthe aperture-speed
combination.Both speedand aperture are
controlled by the right-hand setting wheel. To changethe shutter-
aperturecombination, just move this wheeluntil the window above
the finder lensshowsthe required apertureor shutter speed.
On the Rolleiflex models with non-coupled meter you can turn
eithersetting
wheel.While normally thespeedandaperture
controls
are fully coupled, there is an interlock releasein the centre of the
aperture (left-hand) wheel.To disengagethe coupling, depressthe
centre
of theaperture

on the outer
rim. Turning the button so that the index marks point to the loops
again, restores
the aperture-speedcoupling. Make certain that the
coupling hasengagedby turning either or both of the wheels,

Focusanddeterminethepicture area. To open the reflex hood push
up with onefinger. To close, push in the sides,on E models pull
down the hood.
Turn the focusing knob while watching the imageon the screen,
until the subjectappears

r Using the Rolleiflex E Exposure Meter
The photo-electric exposure meter built into the Rolleiflex 2.8E,
Rolleiflex 3.5E and Tele-Rolleiflex hastwo measuringranges.
On the
top left-hand corner of the name plate a switch operatesthe high or
low ranges.The measuringindicator is built into thefocusingknob on
the left-hand sideof the camera.
1. Set the film speedby turning the adjusting ring until the correct
speedappearsin the cut-out abovethe indicator mark for ASA or
DIN. Dots indicate intermediate values.

t2. Setthemeasuringrange.In bright light outdoors,turn themeasuring
rangeswitch on the top left-hand corner of the "Rolleiflex" name
plate upwards so that the red dot is covered. In poor light and
indoors, turn the measuring range switch downwards so that the
red dot is uncovered.
3. Measure the exposure
value. Turn the finely serrated ring to line up
the red pointer with the black meter needle.With the rangeswitch
turned upwards (red dot covered) read off the correct exposure
value in the forward window of the knob. fn poor light, with the
rangeswitch turned downwards (red dot uncovered),read off the
exposure
valuein therear,red window. Thefiguresarefull exposure
values,the dots indicate half-values.
4. Settheexposurevalueon the shutterspeedwheel.
Installing the Exposure Meter
The Tele and Wide-angle Rolleiflex and some Rolleiflex E models,
which are supplied without exposuremeter" are pre-wired for subse-
quent installation of the meter.
1. Fit the meter cell by unscrewingthe camera name plate with the
special pin supplied with the separatemeter. Replace the name
plate by the photo-cell and replacethe screws.
2. Insert the meter control unit into the focusing knob. Remove the
three screws
at the retaining ring of the film indicator dial and let
the dial drop out. Loosen the retaining screwbelow the film type
indicator window of the meter control unit as far as it will go.
, Thecontrol unit is now insertedinto the focusingknob with the red
/ indicator window on top, pushedgently inwards and turned clock-
wiseuntil it locks. Tighten the retaining screwagain.
3. Zero calibration.When the photo cell is completelycoveredup, the
black pointer should be in zero position, pointing to the short
greenline. If the black pointer does not point to the green line,
turn the retaining screwasfar asit will go, turn the meter control
unit to theleft to disengageit from its bayonetsocketandremove
it.
Adjust the screwin the upper centreof the back of the control unit
until the black indicator needlepoints to the green index mark.
Reinsert the control unit into position and tighten the retaining
screw.
Themeteris now readyfor use
and is handledin the same
way as
the E meter (described
above).
Special Controls
TIME EXPOSURES with theRolleiflex 3.5F and 2.8F are indicated
by greenfigpres in full seconds.After lining up the exposuremeter
pointers,thegreen
numbers
indicatethe number of seconds
theshutter
has
to bekept open.

This screws
into the centreof the
release
button. Swing the safetylever upwards; the shutter will now
remainopenafter pressing.
With Rolleiflexmodels3.5E,2.88,2.8F/2 and
Teleand Wide-angle
Rolleiflex, time exposuresare made with the shutter set to B, and
released
asabove.Thereare no green numbers.
FLASH SYNCHRONIZATION. For X synchronization, set the
flashlever(beside
the finderlenson the 3.5F,2.8,and W.A. models)
to the flash symbol (a zig-zagarrow), for M synchronization to the
bulb symbol. While the camera will accept the standard 3 mm.
co-axial plug, a specialRolleiflex flash plug with lead is available to
connect to the flash socket on the base of the front of the camera.
This special plug locks into position and can only be removed by
pressing
the lever protruding on the side of the flash socket. On the
Rolleiflex 3.5Ethis lever is also the synchronizing
lever.
SELF-TIMER. A self-timer(delayed
action)isbuilt in, which permits

shutter will open after a delay of approximately 10seconds.The self-
timer can be usedwith flashshots,but only on X synchronization.
On the 3.5E the self-timer is a button above the finder lens. After
advancingthe film, push this button in the direction of the arrow to
start the mechanism. Both M and X synchronized flash shots are
possible
with this model.
INTENTIONAL DOUBLE EXPOSURES. The film transport and
shutter are coupled to prevent double exposures, but the shutter can
also be tensioned independently for intentional double exposures.
To tensionthe shutterwithout advancing the film, press
the discbelow
the film crank in the direction of the arrow, and turn the crank back-
wardsthrough one revolution.
CHANGING THE FOCUSING MAGNIFIER. Both the upper
magnifier and the rear magnifier can be changed to correct faulty
vlsron.
To change the upper magnifier on Rolleiflex 2.8F, 3.5F, 2.8F,12.
3.5E,
Tele and W.A. Rolleiflex, grip the lensfrom aboveand below,
swing
it up, pull it backandthenlift it up andout. To insert,
push
the
magnifierforward against
retaining springandlet it snap into place. To
cleanit, fold down the magnifier with the direct viewfinder open.
To changethe rear magnifier, openthe focusinghood. Grip the two
retainingclips on either sideof the rearpeep
window with both thumbs
from the insideof the rear wall and pull back the retaining lever. After
changing
themagnifier,pushthe retaining springforward until it snaps
into place.

On the Rolleiflex 2.8E removethe upper magnifier by pulling back
thering mount againstthe retaining spring and lift out. To insert, put
the magnifier into position with its back first, pull back against the
spring and snapdown.
To removethe rear magnifier pushin sliehtly at top andlift out. To
insert, slip the magnifier with its white dot uppermost betweenthe
retaining springsand push down until it snaps
into place.
USING THE GLASS FILM PLANE. While the film is normally
kept flat by the accuratemachining of the film channelcombined with
thepressrueplate,the optical glass
film planeensures
plate-likeflatness
of the film when extremely critically sharp negatives for extreme
enlargemerrts
arerequired.It is a standardfitting of theTeleandWide-
angleRolleiflex and is also available for Rolleiflex models 3.5F, 2.8F
and2.8El2 in conjunction with a special
back.
To insert the glassplate, open the camera back and tilt forward.
Slidethe glass
with bevelled
edgeunder the upperretaining bar of the
llm gate.Let the glass
plate snapinto position and secureby pressing
the bar. The bevellededgesare held by the retaining bars of the film
gat9.To remove,turn the cameraupsidedown, press
theretaining bar
and let the glass
drop into your hand.
Handle the glass by the edgesonly. Keep it absolutely clean, in
particular keep both sidesfree from dust and lint. Store the plate,
when not in use,in the compartment provided in the ever-readycase.

This is a comparatively simplified Rolleiflex without some of the
trimmings of the more advancedmodels.It hasa 3 in. (75mm.) Zeiss
Tessar/3.5 lensin Synchro-Compur shutter,

pre-wired for subsequent
installation of the meter.The focusinghood

Loading
Openthe cameraback.

to the top chamber. Pull out the film retaining knob, remove the
empty spool and insert it in the top chamberafter pulling out the
corresponding
retaining knob. The groovedendof the spool should
engage
the crossbar of the film transport peg.
Insert the film ro11into the bottom chamber after breaking the
seal.
Draw the pointed paperendover the two glide rollers into the
wide slot of the top spool. Tighten the paper on this spool. Now
wind the transport crank until the triangular marks (or arrows)
on the backing paper are opposite the red dots on either sidenear
the baseof the film aperture.

4. Get the film ,."dy for the first exposure by turning the transport
lever crank till it comesto a definite stop. Then turn it back and
fold over to the rest position. The exposure counter sets itself
automatically to No. 1.

indicator by turning the bar in centreof focusing
knob to the right until the DIN or ASA speed appears in the
appropriate cut out. Setthe film type to ortho, pan, artificial light

Using the Rolleitlex T Exposure Meter
The photo-electric exposuremeter has two measuring ranges.On
thetop left-hand corner of the nameplate, a switch operates
thehigh
or low ranges.The measuring
indicator is built into the focusingknob
on the left-hand sideof the camera.
1. Set the fihn speed
by turning the adjusting ring until the correct
speedappears
in the cut-out abovethe indicator mark for ASA or
DIN. Dots indicateintermediatevalues.
2. Setthe measuringrange. In bright light out-of-doors,turn themeas-
uring rangeswitch on the top left-hand corner of the "Rolleiflex"
name plate upwards so that the red dot is covered. In poor light
and indoors turn the measuring
rangeswitch down so that the red
dot is uncovered.
3. Measure the exposurevalue. Turn the finely serrated ring to line up
the red pointer with the black meter needle.
With the rangeswitch
turned upwards (red dot covered) read off the correct exposure
value in the forward window of the knob. In poor light, with the
rangeswitchturned down (reddot uncovered)readoffthe exposure
value in the rear red window. The figuresare full exposure
values,
the dots indicate half-values.
4. Set the exposurevalueon the shutter (see
above.Shooting No. 2).
Installing the Exposure Meter
The Rolleiflex T, evenwhenwithout exposuremeter,is pre-wiredfor
subsequent
installation of the meter.
1. Fit the meter cell by unscrewing the camera name plate with the
special
pin suppliedwith the separatemeter.Replacethename
plate
by the photo-cell and replacethe screws.
2. Insert the meter control unit into the focusing knob. Remove the
three screwsat the retaining ring of the film indicator dial and let
the dial drop out. Loosen the retaining screwbelow the film type
indicator window of the meter control unit asfar asit will go. The
control unit is now inserted into the focusing knob with the red
indicator window on top, pushedgently inwards and turned clock-
wiseuntil it locks. Tighten the retaining screwagain.
3. Zero calibration.When the photo-cell is completelycoveredup, the
black pointer shouldbein zeroposition, pointing to the short green
line. If the black pointer doesnot point to the greenline turn the
retaining screw as far as it will go, turn the meter to the left to
disengage
it from its bayonetsocket
andremoveit. Adjust the screw
in the upper centre of the back of the control unit until the black
indicator needle
points to the green
index mark.
Reinsert the control unit, lock into position and tighten the
retaining screw.
. The meter is now ready for use.

Special Controls
TIME EXPOSURES. With the shutter speedlever set to B or to
any of the greennumbers, the shutter openson pressingthe release
button and staysopen until you let go. The valuesin greenindicate
the required time in full secondsif you changefrom a largeaperture
with a slow shutter speedto a small aperture at the sameexposure
value setting. Thesefigures thus servefor calculation only and the
actual exposure
must be made by counting the secondswhile keeping
thereleasedepressed.
To keepthe shutteropenfor a long time, depress
thereleaseandlock therelease
guardfor therequiredtime.Alternatively
use
a cablerelease-preferably with lock.
FLASH SYNCHRONIZATION. For X synchronization, set the
flash
lever(on theright of thetaking lens)
to theflashsymbol(azig-zag
arrow) for M synchronization to the bulb symbol. While the camera
will acceptthe standard 3 mm. co-axial plug, a special
Rolleiflex flash
plug with lead is available to connect to the flash socket on the left
sideof the camera.This specialplug locks into position and can only
be removed by pushing down the locking lever on the side of the
flashsocket.
THE SELF-TIMER. A self-timer (delayed action) is built-in, which
permitsthephotographerto appear
in thepicture. Placethe cameraon
a rigid support, besta tripod. Pull out the self-timerlever (which isat
thesame time the flashlever)and move it to the position marked "V".
Advancethe
film first. On pressing
the shutter release,the shutter will
openafter a delayof approximately l0 seconds.
INTENTIONAL DOUBLE EXPOSURES are not possiblewith
this model.
