Inserting
the
Battery
The Rollei XF 35 camera exposure system is
powered by a PX-625 battery. To insert the
battery, remove the battery cover from the
bottomofthecameraby
turningitalmost%ofa
turn counter-clockwise with a coin. Before
insertingthe batterysupplied with the camera
outfit,wipe it with a rough cloth. Insert
the
batterywith the + side facing the cover.The
battery should be good for about a year of
normal
use.
Replacements
areavailable
atmost
camera stores or department store camera
sections.

uses35mm
film.To load
the film, pull the rewindknob until the
camerabackpops
open.

Hold
the
rewind
knob
all
the
way
upwhile
you insert the film cassette,
with the
protruding
end
down,
in
the
film
chamber
under
theknob.
Now,
depress
therewind
knob.
Then place
the film leader
- the
tapered
endofthe
film- under
the
take-
upcatch
withapproximately
1/t
inch
ofthe
film
extending
beyond
the
catch.

To start
thefilm properly,
turn
theridged
edge
ofthe
take-up
reel
in
thedirection
of
the
arrow
below
thereel.
Wind
just
enough
to engage
the
film
inthe
topand
bottom
sprockets.
Check again that the film is
securely
on the take-up
reel,
then close
the
camera
back
and
snap
it
shut.
Depress
the shutter
and advance
thefilm.Repeat
until the number 1 appears
in the film
counter
window.

the ASA Speed
In
order
forthecameratooperateautomatically,
you haveto "tell
it"what
kindoffilmitis
using
according
tothefilm'sspeed
(ASA
rating).First,
check
thefilmspeedwhichis indicatedon the
filmboxandcassette.Set
the
speed
byturning
the ridgedblack ring that surrounds
the lens
untilthe
yellow
ASA
number
of thefilm
you
are
using
is
aligned
withtheindicatorinthe
window.
(The
whiteDINnumbersreferto the
European
rating
system
notused in the U.S.)

Automatic
Setting
The
settingcontrol
isonthebottomof
the
camera.
For
automaticexposure
daylight
pictures,
the (automatic) on the
setting
ring
should
beopposite
thewhite
dot on the front of the camera.
To set.
depressthesettingring

thumb,and
turn
thesetting
ring
with
the
fingers
of the same
hand.

Point
your camera,
holding
the camera
either
horizontally
or vertically.
Sight
YourSubject
Keep
the
intended
subject
entirely
within
the
bright-line
frame.
The
meter
needte
should
not
enter
the red
warning
zone(except
whenusing

frash).
lf the meter needleis within the red warning zone,
the available
light is too poor. see
instructions
on electronic
flash.

focusing
system.
Turn the focus ring until the
double imagesin the center focusing
areaof the
viewfinder
merge
and form a singlesolid
image.

your

you
advance

hobby.

iftheneedle

to250,
your
camera
is
going
toexpose
at
1/25A
of
a
second,
ashortexposure
that ,
would
stop
actionsuchasa runnerin mid-stride.

pressing

shutter release. lt will take about I
secondsfor the flash
to "recycle."
When
theorangelight
glows
again,theflash
is
ready to take another picture. When
finished,
turn
theflash
offby moving the
switchleftto "0."
lftheflash
takes
longerthan
30seconds
to
recycle,replacethe batteries.A set of
fresh
AA alkaline
batteriesshouldlastfor
about 200 flashes. Use only alkaline
batteries
inthe flash
unit.

Rewinding
theFilm
After
you havecompletedthelast
picture,
the lilm must be rewound back into the
film cassettebeforeopening the camera.
To rewindthe film,depressand holdthe
rewindbuttoncompletely
in. Unfold the
rewindlever
(being
carefulnotto pull up
the
knob).Turntherewindleverclockwise
until
thefilmisfullyrewoundback
intothe
filmcassette.
(Note:
the rewind
knobwill
turn
f
reelywhenthe
filmisin
the
cassette.)
Openthecameraby
pulling
uptherewind
knob until the camerabackpops open.
Your exposure counter will reset
automatically.

Time Exposures:
The Rollei XF35 can take long
exposures
on the "8" (time
exposure)
setting.
These
exposures
are best with the cameramounted on a
tripod
to prevent
camera
movement.

should

LIMITATIONS
This warranty shall not apply if it is shown by Rollei that the defect or malfunction was caused by damage
resulting from operation of the product contrary to the instructions contained in the owner's manual, or any
misuseor abuse of the product byaconsumer or ifthe product shows evidence of batteryor chemical corrosion.
Also,
this warranty does not cover anydefectwhich hasoccurred asa resultof any modif ication made byanyone
other than Rollei.
Excluded from this warranty are fuses, lamps, non-chargeable batteries, and similar disposable items.
Rollei's sole responsibility shall be lo repair or replace this product within the terms stated above. ROLLEI
SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM ANY BREACH OF ANY
